For work travel last month, the Parrot Nanny kept my female pet parrot (Twinkles) for a few days. I cannot recommend her enough! Gayle (the person who runs the Parrot Nanny) made sure Twinkles had lots of toys and other stimulation, made sure she got lots of sleep Twinkles even got to meet other conures and cockatiels in the room where she was staying! Not that Gayle needs any more 5 star reviews, but I would be rude if I didn't publicly thank her for the good care she has provided us. Our Sun Conure "Lorito" is a very "needy" pet. He doesn't bond with other birds, so he's really dependent on human interaction. Always wants to he held and talked to. When he's in his cage, he wants to be out on our shoulder or on the keyboard we're trying to use. He'll screech really loud if he hears us in another room and we're not giving attention to him. In the past, I would feel so guilty about leaving him even for just a couple days, because I knew he would miss us. He has stayed with the Parrot Nanny now three times in the past couple of years, and we are so happy with the service she provides. I believe she truly cares about each bird in her care. She knows that each one is unique with favorite diets, toys, perches, etc. She gives him attention and out-of-cage time every day. Now we travel guilt-free! Gayle often sends us texts with a snapshot of Lorito eating a treat or playing with a toy. I think her rates may have recently gone up, and I think it varies by species. We paid $45 a day back in November, and that may have been the old rate. You can't call it cheap if you're gone for a couple weeks or more, but birds are intelligent and sensitive creatures like small children, you want them to feel loved by the people caring for them, and that is what you get from the Parrot Nanny. read more

I had a family tripped plan to go to Tahoe, and my friend had backed out in watching our Jenday Conure, Vinny. At this point, it was less than 24 hours when I was set to leave. I called Gayle and although she was at capacity, she made room for Vinny. Upon pickup, Vinny was in great shape (and as loud as ever). I recently left my umbrella cockatto in Gayle's care while I was out of town getting married. It was the first time I had ever left my little boy for that long and was a worried momma as I drove off. This is a vacation for your parrot. Our Severe Macaw, Barney, usually hates to be left behind when we go on vacation and let's us know it by delivering a single punishing bite upon our return. We've left him with five different parrot sitters and this is the only one that returns a happy parrot to us. No bite. Gayle even did his nails for us while we were away and he was still a happy camper. This is a home where the familyroom has been converted into a parrot room of cages and parrot playground equipment, complete with a flat screen TV. As any parrot owner knows, the these birds can be ear piercing. A room of them have the potential to deafen all other sounds. This room, however, feels like the quiet waiting room of a day spa. The parrots that talk greet you with a "hello" or whatever favorite words or sounds they choose to make. These are calm, conversation-decibel happy sounds. The lights are dim, soft music and nature sounds come from the TV, with scenes of a bubbling creek, tall trees waving gently in a light breeze, and ocean waves calmly lapping a wide sandy shore. On hot days the curtains are shut, but on cooler days the large windows let in ample natural light. She even has an outdoor aviary where birds she trust get to fly and perch in the safety of a netted backyard.
