Although I had a nice chat on the phone with very nice lady, I decided to drop by before my fist reservation to check the place out for my 3 mo old tiny puppy that needs playtime and socializing, while I got called away for meetings at my usual wfh job. When I pulled up a younger male (long hair) was a bit standoffish and looked at me like I was insane asking if I could come check the facility out. I honestly felt like I was being shamed for so much as asking to come see where she would be after I dropped her off or meet any staff. I guess we are supposed to hand off our dogs through the car window on a rather busy street, to a virtual stranger? No lobby or anything? He said I could look at pictures online, but I have never had a boarding or daycare place gate keep their space like that. read more

I have never left a review on Yelp before, but feel I need to now. I have had 2 different dogs who we have taken here over the past 6+ years. I was always surprised when I would pick them up and they would be very wet, sometimes soaking wet. I was under the impression this was because it can be very warm in Lafayette and that is how they cooled the dogs off. imagine my surprise when I was told they use water from hoses to "correct" behaviors. I have checked around and found this is not a usual way to correct dogs. so, my dogs won't be going there. Warning: there was a dog fight recently, with several dogs bitten & the biters are still coming to their daycare program. I've been going there over a year- no issues, but lately the staff turns over constantly- Ive been brought the wrong dog at pickup etc. But today my dog didn't seem to want to go in. I left her but called 2 hrs later to find out if she was ok. Repeatedly got VM. My messages went unreturned. When I picked her up I asked how she'd been- they said she wouldn't go into the yard seemed really scared, 1. WHY DIDNT THEY CALL ME 2. Then they told me there had been a fighting incident & they had to pull my dog from behind trashcans she was hiding behind. I AM LIVID! My dog was a rescue who started very fearful of other dogs and it's taken me a couple years to get her to enjoying other dogs. So thanks Tail Haven- you've undid that progress AND CONTINUE TO PUT MORE DOGS AT RISK. read more

Update: The owners attorney reached out to me & offered me compensation and requested, in exchange, that I take down this review. I will not leave the public in the dark about my experience. The owner, Emily, was more worried about us know how they were understaffed when our dog was injured, than she was with helping us understand what actually happened. The first thing she said was "well, this is the busiest day of the year, I have several locations, and over 5,000 clients on my list that I've built myself" .... Like I care about the rest of her business? No, I wanted to talk about my 1 dog that was hurt while at her facility for the first time. She continually cut my fiancé off when she was trying to talk to her, so I stepped in & voiced up, because I too can talk over people. She was very combative, argumentative, and overall rude. Our dog has a fractured tibia, which we did not know until after the X-rays were done. We would have taken him to the Vet the same as the incident, however, her staff went out of their way to reassure us it was nothing. They even posted pics of the day showing our miserable pup with his hurt leg. The voicemail that we have claims they inspected the paw he landed on, and said it seemed fine, so it was most likely just him being a cautious puppy. It was almost as though they were talking to us like vet specialist. Well, it ended up having zero to do with the paw. After a night of him crying & being in restless pain my fiancé took our pup to the vet, and that's when we established the real issue. Initially, the vet told us they did not see how jumping high could have caused this, and the girls at the front desk of tail haven didn't really know what had happened. They told us they were downstairs breaking down boxes, and that's when they heard a yip. We later discovered they were at the top of the stairs, but still not with my dog. He was trying to jump over the fence to be with the people I had paid to watch him. He's a 6 month old puppy that requires constant care, and they should know that. The owner acted all high & mighty by saying her staff was far better trained than that, and said both my fiancé /myself were "liars." The surgery cost over $6,200. I could have left him at home and saved myself the trouble. Which I will do in the future. This lady is so full of herself, and thinks she's re-invented the wheel as far as doggy daycare goes. Almost like she's gods gift to dogs , but she can't even take responsibility for what happened. At the end of the day; She was in charge of my dog & he got hurt on her watch. Today, when she called, she didn't even ask how kiwi was doing. She went straight to "You're not going to like this phone call" talking about attorney this & attorney that... trying to intimidate me. Well, it's not going to work. My suggestion would be.... take your pet somewhere else. I understand it was nothing intentional, but there was zero responsibility taken on her end. I've been bringing my two senior citizen Maltese here for the past several months. I understand that Tail Haven has a reputation for high turnover. However, I must say that the current staff is absolutely wonderful! They have given my dogs lots of snuggles and play time. They keep them safe from the larger dogs and separate them when temperaments of the dogs are not quite right. My dogs come home relaxed and happy...and without a doubt feeling well loved... to the point that sometimes they don't want to leave! Sammie, the lead doggie person--she's awesome! Almost every time I come to pick my pups up, she has a report to give about the happenings of the day. Nayeli gave my dog extra attention when he had bumped his head on my car door one day. She was so sweet with him. My little girl just loves Kiley--she never wants to leave her and Kiley gets snuggles and kisses before she hands her over to me. Anthony, Sharique and Dale always take the time to talk to me and there is no doubt that they just love my two little snowballs. read more

I have been brining my dog Bailey here for almost a year. I bring her at least a couple days a week for doggy daycare and for boarding when I go out of town. Every morning when I pack her stuff and a bag of food for daycare, Bailey is so excited to go she is turning circles and dancing and she can't wait to see the staff upon entry. I was taken aback by the way a staff was talking to the young women it was awful and rude and belittling. I recommend not to take your dogs here. Tail Haven? More like Tail Hell. Or Tail Hail. I wish I could this place zero stars. Alas, I will add ANOTHER one-star review to their already vast and well-earned collection. Please read every negative review (I sure wish I had) before bringing your precious dog here. And please note how many times the word "lawyer" comes up in those negative reviews. Our previous experience with Doggy Daycare and Boarding has been at Pet Dynasty in Pleasanton and they are absolutely DELIGHTFUL!!! I cannot say enough good things about Pet Dynasty (please see my review for them). I decided to give Tail Haven a try because they are 5 minutes from our house. I made the crucial mistake of not doing a deep dive into their reviews. PLEASE DO NOT DO WHAT I DID. READ THOSE REVIEWS. THERE ARE A LOT! In only 2 days (and about 9 hours), here's what I experienced: 1. The spaces where they keep the dogs are awful. Junk piles everywhere. Very messy. Very cluttered. Very dirty. They said they were under construction and deep cleaning, so I was hoping this current state of horrendous affairs was temporary. 2. On Thursday my dog was only there for 4 1/2 hours for her "trial day", yet she was in a cage when I picked her up. This would NEVER happen at Pet Dynasty. 3. When I go to pay for the trial day, they have no record of my dog in their system. I leave the woman at the desk with hard copies of my dog's immunization records, and my credit card information. I confirm that I have a reservation for Saturday. She says, "Yep, you are all set. I will create a file for you and add all of this. See you Saturday!" I'm not thrilled with how things are going so far, but I was trying to give them a chance because they are so close to us. 4. After dropping her off on Saturday, I quickly get an email saying they have nothing on file for my dog. No immunization records. No reservation for Saturday. No record of her doing her trial day. NOTHING. I explain everything to the woman on the phone and she says she will call the owner and call me right back. 5. THREE HOURS GO BY. Three hours of me being completely stressed out and anxiety-ridden that my dog is lost in the system and is probably locked in a cage somewhere being ignored. 6. I call them to get an update on what's going on and the girl asks me to send her a PDF of my dog's immunization records to which I explain that I can't do that because the vet is closed on Saturday. I'm not gonna lie, I'm pretty forking pissed at this point and my tone of voice reflected that. The girl gives me a lecture about how I am being "disrespectful" to her. To which I reply in my best Camille Vasquez talking to Amber Heard voice: "RESPECTFULLY, you guys are trying to get me to fix a problem that was created on YOUR END. I provided you with everything you asked for. I filled out the application. I made the reservations. I gave you the immunization paperwork. I brought my dog in for a trial day. I gave you my credit card. I did everything that I needed to do on my end. It is not my fault that your team lost all the paperwork. The problem is on YOUR end. YOU need to fix it. Not me." She then replied, "I see your point. Your feelings are valid." She then says she is going to call the owner and call me back, but I've heard that before. 8. Now I'm feeling very uneasy about having my dog in this unorganized, understaffed, unprofessional establishment. I do a deep dive into the reviews on Yelp and HOLY SHIT. I forgo the event that I am scheduled to attend tonight and take a loss on the $40 ticket. There is no choice...I have to get my dog out of there. 9. My dog is, just as I suspected, in a cage when I pick her up. I wouldn't be surprised if she was in the cage the entire time. I don't trust this shady ass place one bit! I purposely have someone on the phone with me to be a witness to the conversation that occurs when I pick her up: Amber: Excuse me, we don't have a credit card for you. Me: It's on file. Amber: We can't find that file. Me: That's on you. We're all done here. Give me my dog. Gratefully, they gave her to me. I could not drive away fast enough. Also, Tail Hail...respect is earned. And you guys did not do one forking thing to earn my respect. If you are going to overbook and jerk around your clients, you are going to have pissed-off clients. We have a puppy, Charlie, whom just turned a year. We had tried out another day care situation and it wasn't the right fit. So we had been looking around and when I was at the Heather Farms dog park a women recommended Tail Haven. I am so glad we found them. Charlie is so excited to go there ( which is a new response to day care). All of the people who work are are super kind, sweet and helpful. My husband and I are both in a the midst of large projects and have been utilizing Tail Haven a ton the past few months. I can't express how grateful we are for them!!! read more

I hate Yelp and downloaded it for this. As I care for my sick dog (who got sick at tail haven) my emails and calls go unanswered. And I take full responsibility. After my dog getting sick last time here and a $1000 bill the owners response was my dog had gained weight and she needed to charge us more; I should have never been back. This weekend her employees were boasting about 100 plus dogs and record numbers, while knowing they had sick dogs last week. I just hope the owner starts taking responsibility and caring about our family members health over her profits. Sad Emily Is your vague comment and thinly veiled threat directed at my wife and I? If so please have your lawyer call me, like you had him threaten others. If it is directed at your responses last time we had a vet bill and you raised the price, let me know and I can post all your responses here to jog your memory. Liability is knowing you have an infected kennel and taking record breaking numbers of dogs (as indicated by your staff as I picked up my two sick dogs). Threatening customers and bullying tactics will be met head on here. You endangered family members and then had the audacity to challenge our integrity. I've taken my dog here for daycare and boarding for 3 years. I've had terrific experience. My dog can't wait to go in and play; she is happy and bouncy when I pick her up. And, I would say that's the typical experience in the parking lot. Yes, there has been turnover. What restaurant, retail, or other service business HASN'T had turnover in 2020 - 2022+ pandemic? The new employees have some time under their belt and are just as friendly and capable. I've knocked on star off only because of the parking. I would give this place more stars if I could. I've been taking my puppy to the Lafayette location since she was 4 months old and it's the best decision I've made for her. I travel a lot for work and she's stayed overnight countless times. I never worry about her while I'm away because I know she's in good hands and having the time of her life. We just picked up our dog from a 2 night stay at Tail Haven. He had a gash on his nose, brought him home (5 minutes home ) and he blew by my husband to get to his water. He drank over a gallon and raced outside to do his "business". I picked him up at 1in the afternoon, and I'm sure he had been crated for too long... Dogs just don't drink THAT much water if they are out in the yard. My husband and I have left countless voicemails with no response at all for 3 days. To make matters worse, he came home and with kennel cough (which he is vaccinated for in May 2021! Gash in the nose, no water, and kennel cough... Let me start by saying, I know they were short staffed and trying their best...but that being said, I will most likely not take my dog here again. They promise daily pictures of the dogs on their website. My dog was there for 10 days and not a single photo was posted in that time period. Furthermore, when I went to pick her up my dog was "not even in their system" - someone had checked her out on day 4 of her stay. Was she being fed those next 6 days?!? Also, they couldn't locate her belongings when I was picking her up. And FINALLY...she came home with horrendous Kennel Cough. This review is for grooming (the only service I used). I spoke with the front desk about my older Australian Shepherd that was in desperate need of grooming. She (the dog) had been injured earlier in the year, so we hadn't been able to brush her much or get her coat cut. When I dropped her off in the morning they double confirmed verbally the instructions for lifting her and her ability around stairs etc. Also what length cut I wanted (which wasn't fancy, but maybe labor intensive b/c there was so much fur.) They understood that her coat was a little matted in places. They took great care of her and even gave me a call a little early to come pick her up to avoid extra time for her in the unfamiliar setting. Everyone I interacted with listened to my concerns and was responsive. Plus she got a cute puppy cut that makes my senior dog look like a pup again. read more

We simply adore this place!! I have been taking my Australian Sheppard here since she was a 4 month old pup. Two years later we still take her and our newer Aussie here about once a week. We bring them for the socialization (with two dogs it's really easy to have them just play at home) so that they can learn to play with all different sizes and energy of dogs in a safe place. For our dogs around 2 years in age, it's very important for them to learn. We also take them in when my husband and I have a lot of work to do around the house, or we have a lot of errands to run, just for the mental stimulation. Because our dogs are 45-55 pounds, we will bring them to both the Big and small dog facilities in Lafayette, which works perfectly because our girl loves playing with the small dogs and our boy loves the big dogs. They have a great time at both facilities! Our dogs love the staff; they charge in from our car and waggle their fluffy butts when greeted. We pick them up with huge puppy smiles on their faces and watch them pass out in the back of our car. We are so fortunate to have them here to enrich the lives of our dogs. read more

We were looking for a kennel for our 1 year old sher-pei who doesn't like being in a kennel or crate and had 2 bad experiences at other kennels. When we found The Tail Haven we were ecstatic. It is more then a kennel it is a second home now for Thunder. They also have day drop ins where we take him to just play with other dogs occasionally. I love that they also have little add-ons like adding 30 minute walks to your stay or training which we did and couldn't have been more pleased with the results. The owner Emily even came to our home for a follow up training session. This truly is a gem and the staff really care about the dogs and are great with them. Our puppy (9 mos and 80 lbs) has really enjoyed Tail Haven. It's a big playground for dogs - of all ages and sizes. I think the staff does a great job of keeping the big dogs and little dogs together - giving them rest time and making sure that they play with other bigs and littles. When we pick up our dog, he is exhausted... he has that quick burst of energy, jumps into the car, then collapses on the seat - that is a good day. The team @ Tail Haven are professional and really nice to work with. They respond quickly to emails - probably faster than on the phone leaving a message. I would highly recommend Tail Haven for your pup! read more

I would give 0 if possible. This place is a mess to say the least. The owner Emily is really unprofessional and plain out rude. If u care about your fur babies, please don't bring them here. We got a call while on vacation that 1 of our 2 dogs were really ill. We had to figure out a way to get her to the emergency vet, picked up and cared for a day or so to she if she got better. She wanted to charge me more for my dog based off weight after already being there for 9days!!! (We we're in Hawaii). The vet confirmed she was confident it was something from the "pet hotel". We paid the 1200 vet bill. The audacity for her to want to charge us more based off dogs weight after being there for 9 days and emergency vet bill was mind boggling!! Seems to be all about the money with this lady! 5 months later we took dogs back (big mistake) so I could recover from major surgery. When we got the dogs back, one was Coughing, gagging and huffing and puffing. Clearly sick. Waiting on response from vet now. This woman takes no responsibility in the way she runs a business. We have been taking our dog Max to The Tail Haven since she recovered from an injury she received at a different daycare facility. The staff is so sweet and knowledgeable and treats us and our dog with nothing but love and respect. The facility is cute and well-maintained and she absolutely loves to go swimming out in the backyard. They listen to us if we have any special care information when we drop her off and they give us a full report at the end of the day if we want to know how her day was. This review is for the Tanner House as my pup goes to that location daily for daycare. I was honestly a bit hesitant to take my pup to daycare because of stories I've heard about day care facilities in general and some of the Yelp reviews, but I'm soooo glad I gave it a shot! Koda loves going to daycare everyday and runs inside when I open the car door (you literally want nothing more as a dog mama than to see your pup running to daycare and wagging his tail). He loves Madeleine and Elizabeth, but honestly the whole staff is amazing! I've boarded Koda a couple of times and I'm happy with it. Their boarding is a crate style, but I honestly think that works best for Koda. We've tried cage free boarding and since he's not used to having dogs around, he had to play whenever someone woke up at night. I was told that after a few days he got a bit nippy purely because he was hardly sleeping and grumpy. I've also noticed that Koda plays even better with dogs at the park now that he goes to day care daily and has learned more manners. I'm so happy with Tail Haven and have had a few friends/coworkers who started taking their pup here as well. read more

Big Orvis thing with his name on it, likely not used. lost his food bag and scoop--name and instructions prominently on it. couldn't find his toy for while. messed up his flea collar, removing all nighttime reflectors and reattached too loose to do anything. called after picked up to find out if fed that pm but no response after that screwed British accented thing. this is a dog time bomb and id be scared for injury, sickness, etc. and, for all you real dog people who know their pet, when he got home he was mentally a mess; definitely a sad and confused guy. this is a horrible place to leave a loved four. legged one. read more

Based on her reply below and the voice messages left on my phone, I will edit my review. My first time ever using the Tail Haven to get my dog groomed... the staff did not reschedule my appointment after I called them to do so. When I arrived at the Tail Haven, my dog was not listed in the books. After I told them I rescheduled 4 weeks prior, they replied, "Oh, we tend to forget to write it down in our book -- our bad." Then they clearly try to get rid of me because nobody did a walkthrough with me on how things were done, what the process was, how long it took, etc.The lackadaisical attitude is what bothered me the most. Upside: the groomers did a nice job with my dog's cut, and they seem to have taken good care of dog, which is a plus for me after having been traumatized by Petco groomers. While the owner, Emily, personally called me multiple times throughout to apologize and explain things, which makes me feel better, that still doesn't change my experience while I was there. Hopefully, this serves as a learning experience during growing pains. read more

I have read the reviews and it's unbelievable what people complain about I have brought my pug to tail haven and he has a ball everytime we pull up he gets happy and wiggles everywhere. So when someone is complaining about some lost paper work or for staff turn overs it makes me wonder did you actually send your paper work because they have everyone else's paperwork why is yours just missing? And staff turn overs I ask why would a manager and staff members all leave at the same time seems like something shady was happing who in their right mind would would fire the manager and all the staff. I am just saying ask why would that happen? Hmmm something pretty messy must have happened. I think the staff now is way friendly and helpful. I even read someone complaining that the new staff didn't know their dogs name! Well how special are you and how dare them ask your dogs name. I bet you they know that dogs name now. The Tail Haven is awesome. Hands down THE BEST option for your dog in the area. And, this review is coming from the pickiest of picky pants pet owners when it comes to the care of my sweet Labrador. I have a pretty well trained dog (multiple obedience titles), so naturally he has a lot of "work drive". Needless to say... It's hard to kennel him. I've tried lots of local places- none with satisfactory results. He would always, without fail, come home stressed, with GI problems, confused from people "training him", and smelly (despite paying for baths). I LOVE the care that is given to my dog at The Tail Haven. Not only can I see what he is up to every day via the pictures they post on FB, he comes home exhausted, with no bumps in his training, and no midnight trips to the yard so he can relieve himself! I fully trust the individuals that work there, they are always friendly, knowledgable, and genuinely happy to see my dog. It's more pricey than some of the other boarding places, but you get what you pay for. I don't know any others where your dog literally plays for 8 hours a day. read more

Tail haven is the BEST for day care and boarding!! The staff is wonderful and welcoming. They truly love what they do and it shows... The real testamate to how great of a job they do is upon arrival Ozzy is literally jumping out of my arms to get inside and hang out with all his friends and at departure I get an excited to see you mom but then he passes out the moment we get in the car and sleeps the rest of the night! They have day care and boarding packages which makes it a bit more affordable if you know you need ongoing care. And now that they have a separate large dog facility it makes it so much easier to board my small 10 lb. dog even with just a day notice. (Hoping this review doesnt make that more challenging! Lol) My dog has never been groomed here but on a number of occasions they will give him a bath after a few days of boarding--which I really appreciate! Our dogs, Teddy and Eli, recently stayed at The Tail Haven overnight while we were out of town. Both dogs had a great time! At first I was a little annoyed by the comprehensive questionnaire that Tail Haven makes you complete when you book a stay - however, my fiance pointed out that we would want the people taking care of dogs to be thorough and detail oriented. Good point. I happily completed the questionnaire and Teddy and Eli were on their way to the first boarding stay at Tail Haven. Tail Haven has great staff and facilities. They also have these huge swimming tubs in the back that the dogs love! Tail Haven is located on Mt. Diablo Boulevard in Lafayette - very easy to get to and very easy to find. Parking can be in their parking lot or on the street. We have already booked Teddy and Eli's next stay at Tail Haven! read more

I recently had my dog, Kona,board at the tail haven for three weeks. We were so worried about leaving him. He is a recently one year old Doberman who is a lot of dog! They were amazing with him and it made us feel very good to see pictures posted every day of him having fun. When we first came in, the owner was very helpful and talked me through a few issues I had with training and socialization. It was very much appreciated and so helpful! Kona also fell in love with Amber, who works there, and I can't tell you how happy it made me to know he was getting personalized attention with someone he felt comfortable with. I took my small dog here three times, was the first to arrive on a Sunday morning for one visit and the smell of urine was quite strong. I understand there will be odors but it was startling and I don't know why the odor would be so strong first thing in the morning. The girl at the desk tried to tell me a dog had just peed but i think all the wood is saturated with urine and should probably be replaced because the place has an overwhelming smell. I don't want it to smell if chemicals either but it's strong. Unlike other places I've taken my dog, there were no beds of any kind for the dogs to rest on. My dog was not comfortable there and he's been to many day cares over the years. I also thought it was too expensive. I found another high quality daycare nearby. read more
