My first ever coffee of my spontaneous trip to Williamsburg. I was attracted by the big windows (lots of sunshine!) and chic wall display, then immediately drawn by the marble top tables. I went in, got myself a cup of latte and a cookie with strawberry jam (forgot the actual name of it). The latte was great, with rich aroma, not too bitter or sour. A great place to sit down and do work if you're looking for that productive coffee shop vibe. There's plenty of space to house small groups and the coffee is pretty much on point as well. There's a range of tables from high-top/barstool seating, to lower tables and benches as cushions as well. It can get pretty loud and crowded on the weekends (I suggest bringing headphones), but the crowds usually come in waves and aren't that constant throughout the day. The staff here is super-attentive and occasionally would walk around and see if anyone needed their cups put away for them after finishing. Be aware though, there isn't wifi on the weekends (slight bummer), but it's still a lovely place to be. read more

After perusing Smorgasburg we were craving some caffeine and found this really nice coffee joint close by. They make a delicious iced latte. Plenty of seating, clean, bright, nice atmosphere, chill decor and free wifi. Some snacks and small bites. Large front window to let the sunlight in and people watch. Friendly baristas. Still, way too many people here just playing on their laptops being wifi hogs. Which is weird because there are no outlets here. Communal seating and some small tables. Well, if this isn't the coolest, hippest coffee shop around. I am sure, in Williamsburg, when there is a hip, chic coffee shop there is an even more interesting one around the corner. But for an outsider, like myself, wandering the streets - I am happy to have wandered into this spot for an afternoon jolt of caffeine. The staff was friendly and instantly greeted us with a grin, as well as passed around complimentary samples of their new brew from exotic country that I can't recall. But I can recall that it was smooth and delightful. My actual order - a cortado - was also scrumptious served at the perfect temperature and texture. I usually don't prefer drinks with milk, but this wasn't overly creamy or bitter. The 'Goldie Locks' cortado per-say. The open space format allows for a sense of welcome vibes, as well the front wall that faces the street. It's not closed off. Went in and ordered a cappuccino with oat milk which came to $4.80 plus tip. When it was ready I didn't realize the barista was calling my drink because the only drink on the counter was in a small espresso size cup, maybe 4 oz. I came to sample the coffee but when I come back it will be for the scene. Yes, the coffee here is good but I'll put the blue ribbon on Stumptown any day. What defines this L train detour coffee hotspot isn't as much its brew but where it's brewed. This is one happening java joint and that's the real story here as far as I'm concerned. This is your cool friend's loft with double height ceilings and a decor that looks like it was ordered out of a Crate & Barrel catalog. Lots of good looking 20-somethings in basic Brooklyn black surfing their iOS devices while checking out all of the other 20 [and 30, and even some 40 somethings] doing just the same thing. The biggest problem here: seating. Despite two communal tables, it's possible not to find a space to sit. I can easily see folks plopping themselves down on the wall-length sofa and spending an afternoon surfing, sipping and sightseeing. As for the coffee, it's good but it's much the same that's served at most of the emerging alchemist-brew-palaces like Blue Bottle around the corner. But I also love those big windows, so I'm conflicted. :) - Hard to get a seat. I have never been here without having to awkwardly stand around and wait for someone to leave. That's a good thing because it means people like to come here and they're getting great business, but it's something to keep in mind. Try to go earlier in the day (like before lunch) to beat the weekend afternoon crowd. UPDATE: I was determined to come here on a weekday afternoon to see how it compares to the weekend crowd. It was still pretty busy, but much easier to find a seat. Also, the shop is more "laptop friendly" on weekdays. What a cool coffee house. I came here stumbling around Brooklyn on a Sunday morning. This place was pretty packed, yet since it had so much open space, there was quite a lot of seating. I love the decor, especially the designed shelf wall, and ambiance of this hipster-esque coffee shop. I noticed a lot of couples and even families causally spending their Sunday over a cup of coffee and a small meal. All of their drinks are brewed to near perfection. The baristas working there appeared to take coffee seriously, so I knew that my $5 towards a latte would be well spent. I went ahead and tried their seasonal drink, which was a maple latte. I must say, it was pretty great and nicely presented. Since the drinks here are a little pricey (but hey, that's Williamsburg for ya), I probably won't be going out of my way to come here for a coffee. Walking by, Toby's Estate is packed with customers on their laptops at any time of day. On a sunny, summer day, their outside bench is full with baby carriages and pups. Love that high ceiling windows that let in all the natural sunlight. A clear menu board behind the registers displays coffees, espressos, sandwiches, and avocado toast. Baristas are so friendly, giving recommendations with a smile. One downside is the amount of customers. I'd say a 3.5 star would be more appropriate, but that's not an option. Average place. Wasn't disappointed, wasn't impressed. It has a laid back vibe. The wall decorations are very unique and original. It's a beautiful little coffee shop at a great location! It lacks space. It was very overcrowded. It may even benefit from removing some furniture or downsizing so that people don't try to pack in like sardines. Line to their one bathroom becomes absurd. Quality coffee and quality tea. They have a decent variety and it's very appreciated that they offer organic options! However, in my opinion, they completely ruin their organic loose leaf tea by place it in plastic tea bags. That was the biggest disappointment. Most people who value and choose organic products are very conscious to what they put in their bodies. Cloth bags would we better. Hot chocolate is below average. I love Toby's! This shop is marvelous. It's pretty roomy and has all kinds of knick knacks on the walls. Definitely gives Toby personality. The sofas and all else decor is so New York. I love it. I enjoyed my Flat White at the long wooden communal table. Clean place, New York newspapers spreader across the tables everywhere, so many cool things to look at on the walls and overall great baristas and even better coffee. I visited Toby's in the afternoon so it was pretty busy at the time. read more

Their today's coffee when I visited there was one (called white something) that was slightly sour side. I personally prefer dark, strong, and bitter coffee so might not be very favorite but still I enjoyed. As a note, the price is $3 for small. Standard price for a small coffee in this neighbor is $2 or little less. (But they use really nice cup for take out coffee.) I may try their today's coffee again if they have different ones, but otherwise I will stick with espresso. The Bedford blend espresso is quite nice. I liked the interior, high ceiling, clean Eco fashionable decorations of green, white, and light brown, like a gorgeous version of Starbucks. (Not trying to say negative here but I mean it makes people feel familiar with the space.) The staffs are businesslike friendly here, some local coffee shops treat customers like their old friends or family but not in here unless they know the customer. Still they are friendly and helpful. They take credit card after $5, so if I just want to grab a cup of coffee better make sure to bring cash or bring a friend so we can pay together on a card. read more

This place far exceeded my expectations. Lovely interior, friendly staff and most importantly great coffee. This is an Aussie cafe, cricket memorabilia adorn this well lit, garage door looking window outfit. Yes there are annoying hipsters with laptops but can you blame them, this is Williamsburg and barely anyone in NYC knows how to really chill, go to west coast to learn how to do that. The flat white here is the best I've had and the seasonal espresso julep with mint, basil, almond milk and 2 shots of espresso was absolutely outstanding, not overpoweringly sweet and great summer drink. It is visually appealing, a sediment of espresso that layers at the bottom of cold milky almond milk goodness. Vegemite toast was good, my first time having hard to critique the Vegemite other than it does not taste like what it looks like however I can judge the impeccable toast, stellar. Notable mention to the cool 80s Cure sound music playing in background, just loud for a conversation but not a phone call. This coffee shop used to be my favorite in Williamsburg. Not anymore. Okay, the coffee is good but I always came here for the food and the atmosphere. How nice to sit in front of the huge sun drenched windows drinking a latte out of a real cup, and eating the best egg sandwich in Williamsburg. I have been a regular customer on and off since they opened. I have probably been to this coffee shop over a hundred times. The egg sandwich was amazing. I would actually drive from East Williamsburg 3 times a week to get this egg sandwich. Why do I say the egg sandwich "was" amazing? Because today I was informed I can no longer order this sandwich as a vegetarian because they no longer allow changes to the menu. Ok, so this sandwich comes with ham and I used to order it without the ham. Sometimes for periods of time they would even allow me to switch the ham for avocado which is incredible. If you have an in at Partners try to get them to make you this. Baristas in the past have confirmed it is their favorite item not on the menu. So, not only can you not get avocado on the sandwich you can't even get it without the meat! The story gets even worse: apparently the reason why nothing can be changed on the menu is because all the sandwiches are now pre-made in the morning and cannot be adjusted. Yep, the scrambled egg sandwiches are made at 7 am and reheated until 3pm when they stop serving food. I hope for all you meat eaters who are still able to eat the sandwiches here that this was just a story the manager told me to get rid of me but if not you might as well go to Starbucks and eat their pre-made egg sandwiches! This is not why I moved to Williamsburg! Other things to note, the egg salad and avocado toast used to be amazing as well until that was also removed from the menu. Tried the breakfast burrito and I give it a 2 out of 5. Maybe because it was made 6 hours before I ate it? If this restaurant doesn't want to allow substitutions why not just put a vegetarian egg sandwich on the menu??? And please add avocado to it. Until then, I will be going to win son... It's definitely a cool place with its industrial atmosphere and dozens of hipsters. Just that you need a pretty new macbook as there are no wall outlets. Maybe they can say this before you order a (relative to the coffee) quite overprized tea. Having written the first part of this review, we hadn't started drinking our coffee and tea yet. The coffee was so bad that my girlfriend didn't finish it. As I didn't have a possibility to get rid of the tea leaves, my tea was undrinkable too. While updating this review the wifi fell away twice, the music paused for a while. As we were quite surprised about how bad a coffee place can be, I read other reviews and realised that the personnel was indeed quite unfriendly. And that the coffee had been served with a dirty spot on the cup. In short: a great place unless you want to drink coffee and/or use internet. read more

We come here on a lot of weekend mornings to drink really great pour-over coffee in a beautiful space while we get to people-watch beautiful people. If you are a coffee snob, this is a great place to while away a lazy weekend day. However, if you have a voracious appetite like I do, you really have to pregame the place with a meal and then snack on pastries or the breakfast sandwiches here. The food is good but I generally leave here fairly hungry for what I've just paid. I ordered a piece of avocado toast, and while it was healthy, yummy, cleansing, etc., etc. I am already thinking about when I can head over to Best Pizza for a slice.
