In the worlds' plan to give me grays by the time I'm 25, my husband tore his ACL and meniscus in…read morehis knee. After weeks of physical therapy, the time had finally come to patch him up. Our surgeon, Dr. Nillson, scheduled us for surgery at Victory Medical Center (formerly Innova) on the southeast side of town. The hospital itself is very new-looking and organized. We spoke to a lady in Admitting and she walked us through all the paperwork while being personable and basically calming our nerves. When the time came for my husband to get the gown on, we were greeted by a sweet RN (I'm so bad with names.. sorry!) who drew blood and also tried to relax us. Next, the good doc came in and explained what was going to happen and how long he'd be out for. I think he could tell how thick the room felt with our worries because he made a few jokes which eased us a bit. After they took him away, drugged up to high heaven I sat in the waiting room ready for the 2 - 3 hour wait. The lady from admitting came to check up on me twice and asked if I wanted anything to drink. Such a small gesture but really made all the difference to me! Two hours later, he was all ready. I went back where the post-op nurse was watching his vitals. She explained to me what he could eat, what he couldn't and could do in great detail which was super helpful because I felt slightly lost. Finally, when we left, she handed me a card which thanked up for choosing Victory Medical Center and everyone we had met that day, from admitting to post-op nurse had signed a little something. Altogether now: Awww!

I went into CareNow Urgent Care - McCreless in San Antonio, honestly expecting the usual rushed outnumbered visit, but that was not my experience at all because of the NP. I was fortunate enough to be seen by Nurse Practitioner Brunink, and she was truly exceptional. From the moment she walked in, her bedside manner stood out--she was kind, patient, and took the time to really listen. She didn't make me feel like just another number, and her thoroughness gave me confidence that I was in good hands. She explained everything clearly and made sure all my concerns were addressed before I left. After 25 years in the military, I've encountered a wide range of medical providers, and I can honestly say I wish I had come across more like her throughout those years. That level of care, attention, and professionalism makes a lasting impact. If you're hesitant about urgent care visits like I usually am, this location--and especially Nurse Practitioner Brunink--might just change your perspective.

When we, as patients are there, we are in pain, at a new environment, and vulnerable. He never communicated anything to me, what was happening, what would be happening... The Cat scan room (I didn't know I was having one, only heard X ray from prior staff) was absolutely freezing! I could not stop shivering and laid down on the cold table. I told him I had a bad back and asked for a pillow under my knees. He reluctantly walked over to get one. Then as I expressed I was shivering, he tells me to control it, that it would ruin the procedure. HOW DO YOU CONTROL your Shivering? Finally after awhile, he walked over and gave me a cover, not a blanket. It was better than nothing. I tried to relax on my own but it was difficult. I was wearing a Tshirt and long pants. After he disappeared, I had NO communication what , when, was happening or going to happen. The machine just made different noises and now and then it would move me. Only because I just had an MRI, I figured it would be awhile but had no way to communicated that I knew of or was told to me. Toward the end of what seemed forever, a different man came and said he was replacing the first one. I heard him later say something to the nurse about taking over and I assumed the first man was at the end of his shift when he got me? THANK GOD he hopefully went home! The second, replacement, communicated, was professional, and kind. That was all I asked, communication at a place I never had been to, a procedure I was not familiar with... do not think that is much to ask. Long story short, I would return but would refuse service from the first man if I ever saw him again.
