First off, it's impossible to find someone to groom a cat in this area. We had a situation and desperately needed help with our long-haired Siberian. Unlike every other groomer we contacted, Furever Friends Family couldn't have been kinder, more generous, or more accommodating. They squeezed us in for a same-day appointment without hesitating. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and genuinely love animals. They took the time to understand my cats needs, her personality, and ensured a tailored grooming experience. My usually anxious feline felt at ease almost immediately (and seemed to like them more than me!) The grooming itself was top-notch. My cat came out looking like a show-stopper. Additionally, the space is spotless. You can tell cleanliness is a top priority! I can't recommend Furever Friends Family enough. That was the main event advertised and was enough to get me so excited for a trip, but it was actually SO much more! Before we actually even met the pigs, we got a chance to meet and pet puppies, the barn kitten, horses, goats and a mule and I have to say, Robin the goat stole my heart... While we pet and played and fed, Maggie taught us about the work that they do at the sanctuary. They rescue all different kinds of animals from different situations. Sometimes owners can no longer take care of their animal, sometimes they rescue them from livestock auctions (like Tanto the mule), but all of the time this amazing place is just trying to make sure these animals have happy lives. She explained some sad truths behind how teacup pigs are bred (they are basically just fed so little that their growth is stunted) but she just made us fall more and more in love with all of the animals we were meeting. So many animals at the sanctuary were up for adoption so if your house has a spare room, I can totally vouch for Robin the goat. They also have dogs that are looking for homes if that is more your speed. If you are just visiting the area like us, I highly recommend going for a tour. The adoption event was well organized with only 3 other adopters in our time slot (previous reviews mentioning dozens of people all vying for a handful of dogs are simply not correct). Everyone was calm, friendly, and courteous. Sharon from Pawsafe, who ran the event, was friendly and very welcoming (and has been very conscientious checking in to make sure Fergus is doing well in his new home). The fosters were all there to answer questions about the dogs, hovering like proud parents watching their kid at their first school play. It was just a great experience full of wagging tails and smiling faces. To also come away with a great new pup is the icing on the cake. Can't say enough good things about Pawsafe and would highly recommend!

They are committed to stopping the cycle of suffering of pets living homeless, on the streets. I have seen them put everything into saving one life then do it again, and again, despite the inevitable disappointments. Sometimes it isn't possible to save them. Because of their growing knowledge and experience, CatCastle is becoming a resource for other rescues/rescuers, especially on newborn kittens. Humane education is another area where they great potential to do a great amount of good.

Why Instagram, rather than the uber-popular, super visible adoption options in the city that come up on Google? Because A. I specifically wanted kittens and the big shelters I went to didn't have any. B. Because all the ultra-cool hip rescue organizations require you to practically sign away your firstborn child in order to adopt. I understand that they want to find the perfect adopter because it's in the best interest of the animal, but I see people bragging about their 2-page essays that accompany their applications because they're such A+ adopters. And hey, just because they want to assign "Exhibit As and Bs photos of their home life," high school English teacher references and SAT add-ons, doesn't mean that should set the standard. Holland from Cat Castle was warm, friendly and helpful when I reached out to her; the friendliest out of EVERY place I had looked into! I told her which kittens I was interested in, filled out the application, and she delivered my sweet boys to my apartment! She even came back to pick them up to take them to get neutered before delivering them back to me! I loved her energy and I love how she and Max have the knowledge to treat some of their rescues in their own home making some vet visits avoidable! While other pet rescues have an almost snooty demeanor about their approval process, I love how down-to-earth Cat Castle is and their non-discriminatory application process. And I'm so happy I was able to support a small, up-and-coming, NYC non-profit that truly cares for animals and wants to match them with potential adopters without being judgy about it. I 100% recommend them to anyone looking to adopt! ^_^
