This is not a store you can easily buzz in and out of. Everytime I've shopped here in the past year, there was only 1 or 2 people at the register and always a long line of customers waiting for balloons. They still offer a good variety of seasonal and regular party items at a pretty fair price, compared to comparable products I've seen online, but the long wait in line, to check out, make it a little inconvenient to shop here. I recently found some cute items here for a socially distanced Valentine (and Galentine's Day) celebration. Cute Superbowl themed items too. Tons of ideas for parties of all kinds. They do an excellent job of specializing in seasonal holiday stuff. In addition to that, they have greeting cards for the major holiday.Stuff is usually pretty cheap here. But for party stuff that you use once then throw away, that's exactly what you need! Guaranteed...you will find what you are looking for here. Halloween costumes are a bit pricey. I go online, but everything else is great. Balloon counter seems a bit slow and always busy,but I am happy with the service and goods that i get here.They have everything a party requires. The service was friendly but turns out the spray I got was a bum container so I basically wasted $6 on a product I didn't feel was worth the stress of having to stand in a winding long line (the line is ALWAYS long here- almost unbearably so) to attempt to take back. My next visit here was many, many months later when I needed a butt-load of funny props to starts a collection of items that would be neat for future photobooths at some of our monthly events. I ended up getting *most* of what I needed, but it was eye-opening seeing how much places like this charge for really sh*ttily-made junk. Turns out, I couldn't afford all the items on my list- even half was pushing it. Like, really pushing it. I'm kind of afraid to turn in my expense report after this one single trip to Party City, but I was able to make it all of 2012 and only hit up PC 4 times, so I guess if the stuff I got isn't total sh*t, it'll at least last me through the year and then I'm covered for the next batch of loosely-themed events where a Cheerleading Batman wearing Bubba Teeth are necessary. read more

Customer service is everything to me. I don't want to hear an employee and who I think is the manager, talking about when the employee can go on break and how the other employee is leaving soon and how that other employee is worried about leaving on time and the break should've been taken sooner but another employee took their break late... I really don't need to hear all this as a customer. All I want is to make a return, so I can leave. Keep it classy Party city... conversations like that should be held behind closed doors or at the very least not around customers you're trying to help... read more

Went here yesterday to pick up some wrapping paper for a baby shower & check out what they have in the way of bridal shower and bachelorette party stuff. They have a pretty good selection of supplies for just about every occasion and theme. I was disappointed that I didn't see the Justin Bieber themed birthday stuff I saw online! I want to get some of that for my friend's upcoming birthday. :P The bridal shower selection was eh. They just had 2 themes and stuff to match with those 2 themes, one of which was black & white. So I ended up not getting anything for that. Their bachelorette section was even smaller, about half the size. They had some funny stuff but I felt like everything just seemed cheap. I expressed my concern to friends who assured me everything is supposed to look cheap and it's okay! I'm a bachelorette party planning n00b i guess. I'll definitely come back when it gets a bit closer to the date. I wish they would expand these two sections! There is aisle after aisle of birthday stuff...just a tad bit more for weddings, bridal showers & bachelorette parties! I found some cute gender neutral baby shower baby for $3.99 plus I ended up getting a couple of cute items I'm going to use at the bridal shower for prizes that were on clearance! They have a decent amount and variety of clearance items and I'm a very 'thrifty' person so I enjoyed looking all of that over. My total was just under $10 for everything...Hooray! Not once but twice I was looking at an item near the cash register and the cashier lady who is also the manager told me to stop playing with the item I was looking at. Not once but twice!! I was just looking at it and HELLO LADY IM NOT A GOSH DARN CHILD!! The lady was harassing me in front of other customers for touching a $2.00 INK PEN!! This place is such a joke, no one seems to care about the store or their jobs. My fiancé and I have been looking around for wedding invitations. A friend of ours had her invitations made at a party city & recommended we check it out. This location is close to our house, so we came here. We went straight to the invitation section & after helping ourselves to the albums of invitations they have, someone finally asked us if we needed help. The woman behind the balloon counter said no one was there for that department that day but I could email her & get the ball rolling on what we would like done, the associate behind the counter also informed us that the printer machine might not be working, she didn't know. So I emailed Sheriece, and I got nothing in response. Absolutely nothing. I called the next day & no one was working in the invitation department again. I asked if the invitation printer was working & the kid that answered the phone didn't know. Something that was super annoying, is the fact that we went to the party city in Arlington Heights & was informed that they don't even print out any of the invitations that have in the albums. Waking in to this location I was greeted by a manager yelling at one of his associates. From what I gather, her headset wasn't working and he decided to blame her and she obviously visibly upset and he still kept yelling at her. I work in retail myself and to see such an exchange out on the floor was appalling. Confused as to why they couldn't pause the order and just fill a couple balloons. Good prices and decent selection. I struggle to find decent greeting cards anywhere, even Target's offering is dismal these days, but this Party City always manages to have a card that gets the job done. Top that off with an awesome price -- the cards all have retail prices of 2.99+, but they only cost .49 or .99! Can't complain about that. There's a ton of other nicknacks like candy, party favors, balloons, and costume gear. Checkout is always painfully slow close to holidays as they are very short-staffed, so come armed with a little patience. I've witnessed people chew the clerks out every time I go here. Let me start by saying Party City's online ordering system is majorly faffed up. I placed a large order like 3 days ago, for pickup on Saturday (today). First, the order confirmation came back for pickup at two different stores about 5 miles apart. I called the Hoffman Estates store and told the young man this wasn't happening, I would pick up my entire order at a single venue, would he please make it happen. He laughed and said "fine," so I figured no problem. I get out to the Hoffman Estates store and encounter two young people, a man and a woman, who said, "There's no order for you." I showed them the confirmation paperwork, they looked confused and said, "There's nothing in our system." At that point I suspect they just wanted me to go away; that was their entire attitude. I insisted the order should be there. Meanwhile I called the Arlington Heights store, who said, "Oh yes, your order was placed through here." Drove most unhappily to the Arlington Heights store at which -- you guessed it -- my order didn't exist. Waited 45 minutes for the order to be created from scratch. Maribel at Arlington Heights was very nice but confessed the online order system is basically not worth bothering with -- sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Sorry. Not good enough despite Maribel and team filling my order with the best speed they could manage. Party City has permanently lost my business. I will also tell anyone else not to do business with them. read more

Back in the day, it seemed that this store was "the" place to go for all my greeting card needs. I used to find really nice, "hip" or funny cards -and remember? Everything used to be $.49! Well, I'm a little "meh" on this store now. Not "meh" enough for 2 stars -but maybe like a 2.5. For whatever reason, it seemed like the quality of cards has gone downhill -a lot. Also, there is a mix of prices. They had a small collection of cool cards -but for $3 or $4 dollars! Sheeeeeeet -I know I'm cheap, but let's face it: most people throw your card away at some point so unless it's a like an awesome card you know they will keep, why spend a lot? They also had a mix of $.49, $.99 and $1.99 cards. Admittedly, if you are looking for some simple "meh" kinda cards, you can't beat the prices. However, I was a little disappointed since the cards I got were kinda bland. I used to love spending an hour there, finding the perfect, personalized card that captured some inside joke for the person I was buying it for. I really struggled this last trip and just ended up buying some generic cards since my cheapness got the best of me. Ah well. I have been here twice recently. There is one poor girl at the front trying to service the customers and work the cash register. All the while, there are at least three other young male employees hiding out / pretending they are busy. When you finally find and ask one of the male employees a question, they answer one very short and go back to their personal conversations acting like they are being bothered. I walked in to put in a balloon order. When I walked to the balloon counter, the only employee in sight said to me "we're out of helium. Sorry." She did not even stop to talk to me, but rather said that as she was walking by. When I asked when she thought they would be getting more, she shrugged and said "i don't know. It's hard to tell." It's one thing for a major party store to be out of helium (which is crazy to me) but then to not even apologize AND not know when you are getting more? I hope that the next time she goes out to dinner at a steakhouse and tries to order a steak, they tell her they are out of steak and don't know when they will get more, and then simply shrug. read more

I have been shopping at party city for as long as I can remember! I come here for every party and get together that I have. And honestly I have NEVER been treated so poorly at a party city! The first horrible experience I had here was when I went with my mom and mother in law to look at wedding invitations. We looked through the books for almost an hour, while every employee working walked past us and not one of them asked us if we needed any help. Than after sitting there for another 20 min, I finally asked if someone could answer a question for me, the young girl at the counter said she would call the manager over for me to answer all my questions. 5 minutes later the same girl walked up to me and told me that the manager said I had to come back when the invitation specialist was working! I explained to her that I just had ONE simple question that I needed answered. And she said she was sorry but she was just telling me what the manager said! (The managers name was Tanya btw, I did have to ask!!) When I went to a different party city they explained to me that any and all managers at party city should of been able to answer any questions I had and apologized for the service I got! The next time I went into the store for some birthday items and the same manager (Tanya) walked pasted me 3-4 times and did not once ask if I needed help! Every other party city I go into EVERY employee that walks past asks if I need help finding anything! When Tanya finally walked pasted me the last time I asked her if she could help me get a piñata down and she gave me attitude, handed me the piñata and walked away, like I was bothering her! I have never been soo disappointed in the customer service at a party city! Let's just say I could walk to this party city from my house but I would rather drive farther to get better service!!! One of the worst shopping experiences I've had in a while! Would not recommend this place to anyone. The staff was rude and they really didn't know what they were doing. It took 15 minutes for a cashier to figure out that an order that had been placed earlier over the phone had already been paid for. She was puzzled as to why se couldn't charge me and when I asked to get a ballon re-inflated they wanted to charge $1.99 - but couldn't figure out how to do so. At that point, instead of just saying "hey, this guy just spent $30 for 20 balloons, we could give him this air for free" they kept wasting my time trying to figure out how to charge the $1.99. read more

I love coming to this Party City even though I'm 5 minutes away from the Lake Zurich store. They put out seasonal merchandise early. During Christmas, they double the shelf space by putting sliding shelves in front of existing shelves. How cool is that? read more
