I really had no issues at this Party city despite its rep. The employees were young but helpful and nice. We came 30 min before closing and didn't feel rushed. Considering this location is the only one in the city, I really shouldn't be picky, but ugh, they are seriously lacking with what they have. The store is pretty poorly maintained, with some completely empty shelves, and others that are just messy and disorganized. A little organization and cleaning would really do wonders to the store. Don't expect to just be "in and out" because registers are always backed up and check out is very slow. On the plus side, I have always encountered very nice staff members. They are polite and helpful, when asked. I'm sure I'll be returning here when I need to get some balloons or tacky party decorations. My favorite mom and pop for balloons is Dinos but they're not open on weekends so Party City is my #2. Like others have said they have an immense selection of balloons as well as all sorts of other party decorations. Great if you're looking for any children's theme. Now with Covid 19 party city is offering curbside pickup. They have not mastered this by any means! I made an online order, was told 2 hour pickup window. I was early and called and was told by a nasty employee I NEED to wait for my confirmation email. The website says within 2 hours. After 2 1/2 hours, still nothing. I see a different employee outside and he tells me, "we have your order inside, we're having an issue with our website" I NEVER received my confirmation email and the fact the website isn't working correctly when going inside is not an option is a joke. It's Party City, so you pretty much know what to expect walking in. Five stars for being one of the only party supplies stores in the entire city. Minus one star for the check-out process, which always seems to take far longer than it should. God forbid someone in front of you has a return. That's an all hands on deck situation. There is a great selection of trinkets for every possible occasion or theme. They even carry those tacky cake-toppers where the bride is dragging the groom down the aisle. So there's that. If empty shelves and lack of inventory are your thing, this Party City is your place. Unfortunately, there aren't many party stores in the area so you got to take what you can get. Perhaps it isn't all to the fault of Party City. I've never visited one of their locations between Christmas/New Years and Valentine's Day but maybe that's the reason for the barren shelves. Their lack of "welcome home" party supplies was disappointing. They didn't have a single welcome home banner. They normally have two welcome home helium balloons, but they only had one in stock. It was military specific (which is obviously a great reason to welcome someone home), but not as fitting for someone coming home from the hospital. They did a nice job putting together big balloon and smaller balloons for us. One of the employees did take some time to help me look for a banner so that counts for something. He also made a nice suggestion on a "make your own" banner. The other employees we encountered clearly did not want to be there. There aren't many other options. We bought our own balloons and they were the only store that can blow up helium to outside balloons. So my sister and I bought a 6 and 0 balloon for our dad's 60th and then after we lost our 6 balloon. So we only had a 0 balloon. Party City's team GAVE us a new 6 balloon and made our day! You know when you go to the doctor, because you have to go, but you're like thinking to yourself, this is going to suck so hard and I'm going to hate it. That's EXACTLY how I feel about trotting down to this Party City. While I'm driving down there I'm weeping to myself, "Okay you're throwing a party. You need their eco friendly paper plates and cups and you need to inflate those two huge mylar balloons you bought off of Amazon. You literally can't go anywhere else! You can do this!! Go to Party City,Di!!!" It's partially how this place looks like on the outside... Oh and the inside. They have all this construction going on so every time I pull up, I'm like squinting at the hours on the door trying to determine if the joint is actually open because it's looks SUPER closed not just a little closed. The woman who rung up my order caught a wrong sticker when a tiny plastic bowl rang up at $9.99. A+. Then my total came up, and she scanned a 20% off coupon for me, which she did maybe because she could see the shock in my eyes when I realized how much I'd spent. Party City is a terrible place for a person like me to go with a credit card. But now I have all of the platters and bowls and plastic wine glasses and tiny serving plates (I totally didn't need the tiny plates but heck, let's be fancy) for an upcoming party. This review will probably have no effect but I have to share so here goes. We went to party city to find last minute Halloween costumes. As expected it was very crowded and most costumes were sold out. The staff was very helpful. They looked stressed and overworked but they were trying their best to make sense of the demands put on them. All was well until we reached checkout. At checkout we found a 3 piece plastic stake which was BROKEN. We were about to spend 110 dollars on our costumes so we asked the cashier if we could have the BROKEN stakes for free. She burst out saying "Free??? Hahahha". We pushed so she asked the manager. He in turn mocked us and laughed at us and said we can have them for 3 dollars. After we spent 110 dollars in their store, they couldn't even give us the BROKEN stakes. Such cheap behavior. I probably will never go back to this one ever! read more

I really wish I could give this 0 stars. The employees are the most miserable people in the world and it makes it dreadful just to walk into the store. I went in a while ago to get balloons for a party, there were two employees there who seemed to be purposely ignoring me and dodging customers so they did not have to help anyone. I arrived at the store at about 8:35-8:40 pm with a rush ("P-R-O-M" balloon) order for my nieces Senior Prom that would be the following night. I was told by a sales assistant "no I can't do it right now because we're getting ready to close and we have to clean the store!" He asked if I could return the following day and when I told him I couldn't because of my work schedule and the prom being the next night he ignore me. I went to ANOTHER sales associate and she helped with my balloon order but the entire time had an angry frustrated demeanor and was verbally complaining with myself and 2 other customers in front of her. Someone (whom I assume was her supervisor) came over and began berating her in front of us which just made her attitude even worse than it already was. Before leaving the store I had to grab something out of an aisle (to which was met with the sales assistant sucking her teeth and rolling her eyes in disgust) than I was YELLED at by her to hurry because she had already begun ringing up my order. 've been to this location several times and it's always a terrible experience. The workers are miserable and rude. Noone smiles or is even remotly pleasent. I just went to get some balloons inflated and the man that worked there was so obnoxious. I asked price, if I had to pay if it pops and he seemed exasperated just answer the questions. Then he gave me my receipt to pay and said they would be done when I get back. I went shopping for more items, and as I went to pay I heard his repeatedly yell across the store if anyone paid for the balloons because he didn't trust me to pay for them! Went to this location to buy a "9" and "0" balloon for my wife's grandmother's 90th birthday. Employees were helpful despite each balloons exorbitant price of 13.99 each. As soon as I left the "0" balloon broke simply by mildy strong wind conditions in the parking lot. I immediately went back in the store and they were nice enough to replace this balloon. The real problems began later. I transferred the balloons and the "0" balloon broke due to wind conditions once again. My wife looked at me a look of utter discust. "You good for nothing waste of life" she barked as I desperately tried inflating the balloon using only the non levetating breathe good gave me in the backseat of the pt cruiser. "You're PT cruisin for a bruisin!" She laughed with her menacing eyes burning into the fiber of my soul. I sat there taping the balloon, completely emasculated, reminiscing on my younger and more formative years.. remembering a time when balloons were provided for countless birthday parties of my own with no incident. It was a different time back then when, before balloon manufacturing was outsourced to other countries. A time when balloons were handcrafted by union workers here in the US of A. Before the machines took good, hard working Americans jobs and replaced them with machines operated automation, but I digress. We pull up to the Chinese buffet. At this point I have the faulty "0" balloon patched with scotch tape and affixed to the "9" balloon in attempt to keep it afloat, piggybacking off the bouyancy of the one remaining helium filled balloon. It seems to be working..we have the balloons tied the back of the chair and grandma looks happy as she is about to blow out all 90 candles on her cake. That was until all hell broke loose... The slowly leaking helium /h20 mixture leaking from the faulty balloons seeps into the air near the candles causing an explosion! What followed was one of the most horrific things I have witnessed in all my life. Grandma immediately stops, drops and rolls preventing her almost imminent death. I rush to her aid. "Get your hands off of my you idiot! You can't even manage to buy balloons for my birthday without nearly killing me!" "I don't know why you ever married this incompetent moron!" She shouts at my wife. I am immediately asked to leave. Spent the rest of the birthday crying myself to sleep in PT cruiser, using cold steel of a Smith and Wesson in my mouth as a pacifier. But deep down I know I am to cowardly to pull the trigger and would not want to ruin the upholstery on my beloved wife PT cruiser. Fast forward a week. My wife and kids refuse to talk to me and I am at what I thought was a new low point in my life..there are some things in life you can never get over, you can only make room for the pain. I return to party City in hopes of ending it all. I purchase their "balloon time" helium tank and assemble a crude exit mask in my basement. I put on "comfortabley numb" while inhaling the gas and gradually slip into unconsciousness, finally in a better place. That was until I'm awoked by my wife's voice.. "wtf are you doing you idiot?!" She yells. "I just can't go on this way, Im sorry I let you down. I don't feel like living anymore" I tell her, in the highest pitched, cartoony voice imaginable due to the helium intake. She laughs uncontrollably for a few minutes and walks upstairs. Since then she has filed for divorce and had me 302'd by the courts. Turns out party city's "balloon time" includes a 20 percent oxygen mix in with the helium to prevent suicide attempts. Long story short I'm giving party City 4 out of 5 stars for their superb customer service and preventing my premature death. Taking one star off for the defective balloons they sell, they should go with a different, locally made balloon manufacturer. I love this place! It's the most convenient store to me that has the largest and best, hard to find, items needed for baking. I love to bake (hmmmmm should've added that to my profile), but supermarkets only carry the basics. Party city has real icing bags (not the disposable plastic kind, though they carry them as well), a plethora of sprinkles in different colors and sizes, icing and candy dye in colors besides primary, and even specialty tools like fondant rollers (and fondant), cake carriers, spatulas, etc. Yes, everyone knows they have party supplies, but if you like to decorate cakes, cookies, candies, or cupcakes, do yourself a favor and check them out! read more

This place really sucks. Nothing is ever in stock and the associates are rude and unhelpful in the store and online. I've ordered online and gone to the store a few times over the last week and each experience is worse than the next. My online order didn't deliver in the time specified and the customer service associate I spoke to was not apologetic in the least. I then tried to purchase some things in-store that showed on their website as being in stock, but they were not. The one associate I found could not have cared less, in fact she was wiping down carts and told me I'd have to wait until she was finished before she'd answer my question. Then I placed an online balloon order for a specified time and it arrived several hours early (luckily I was home) and many of the balloons were not with my order. I questioned the delivery driver and she just said, "well this is all they gave me." I called the store and they said the items were out of stock but I got no notification before or after that items couldn't be fulfilled. I went to submit a large balloon order for NYE for my company. I have been in here before and I always leave annoyed. First let me say that I haven't met one staff member that actually smiled or was even friendly. They are unhelpful, uncaring and I don't know how this store even stays open. I went here to get my daughter's halloween costume, I understand that halloween season is Party City's busy season, so I knew I would not be in and out of the store in 5 minutes. But I was surprised that I was standing there for a good ten minutes without someone asking if we needed help because It wasn't mobbed with a bunch of costumers, there weren't that many costumers at all. So I asked a young women with a name-tag on to help me, she rolled her eyes, and told a young man to help me. I already knew what I wanted, all he had to do was go in the back and get the two costumes. I waited another 10 minutes and he never came back. Finally I think it was a manager came over to me & asked if I was being helped, I told him what had happened and he looked embarrassed for his staff and was apologetic. He got my costumes right away, and I finally was able to get out of there. I'm pretty sure that the two costumer service assistants who bailed on me where just seasonal employee's. I would suggest that Party City figure out a better way to deal with their busy season by next halloween. read more

I went here to pick up some stuff for my mother's 60th birthday and it was worth the (long, on a bicycle) trek from Center City. It was not quite the hallucinogenic dreamland I had anticipated (maybe most of their Valentine's day stock had already been sold off the shelf?), but nonetheless a very solid selection of party stuff in a ton of different colors. Price-wise, it's not too bad. 89 cents for a roll of crepe streamers, $4 for a hanging-letter "Happy Birthday" sign, $6 for a bunch of iridescent hanging stars. The place is mostly organized by theme (St. Patrick's, Easter, retirement party, wedding, etc) and I thought the plain old birthday selection was a maybe a little lacking, although to be fair if you want any kind of special candle for the cake, they have it there. There is more space dedicated to filling goodie bags with disgusting individually wrapped candies and plastic trinkets than seems necessary. But overall, great place -- can't think of anywhere else in Philadelphia that even comes close to this kind of selection. If I ever throw a party again, I would definitely go back. read more
