First time trying the food. 1st the Mac and cheese was dry no butter, sweet potatoes was horrible no butter, sugar nutmeg or cinnamon, just straight out of the can or boil. It showed up in my Uber Eats app and I decided to go pick up myself because of current promotion I had. I ordered Wings and Things and also Red Snapper Lunch! I heard about this place on SGV Eats Facebook group. My hubby and I went there for lunch on a Friday afternoon in the of May. The place was easy to find past 210 freeway and parking lot on the side. The place sells some grocery items behind the counter of fish. They also has the fried fish meals and Jamaican meals. The guy behind seems to be nonsense and serious person. I ordered oxtail lunch plate with 2 sides-collard greens and fries. We waited 15 min until our meal was ready then we paid with the staff lady. My oxtails was tender in the gravy, the fries was soft and not too crispy, and small piece of corn bread was good not dry. I would go back again to try fish lunch plate. Got to know this little Jamaican place through a friend, even though they don't have the best customer service, it is fine with me. Because the quality of their foods are amazing. My wife loves the Jerk Chicken, the amount of spices are perfect. Their catfish is very good too, no fishy taste/smell whatsoever. The jerk chicken always comes out piping hot and flavorful. I usually order mac and cheese and plantains on the side, which are just as delicious. Mac and cheese can be on the softer/mushier side, which doesn't bother me, but to each their own. The lunch line can be quite long, so I would advise calling ahead of time to order. The interior is no-frills and the establishment is largely grab & go. There is a line of seats at the front to comfortably wait for your order. I asked for that and the sole employee present said she would make it, but she didn't have cod or bass so was made with what they said was orange roughy. No chips, just french fries. Disappointed. We expected to eat out. Took the food home. Ample portions. French fries were OK-a bit soggy, pre salted, at least cut from a potato & not made from mix. Fish was cooked well s nothing like the beer battered UK fried fish we like. Fish was dredged with a thin, with almost sand-like texture. The fried catfish is great and the prices and portions can't be beat! It is a local no frills type of restaurant, with equally no frills straightforward service. I have returned several times since my first visit, and wanted to wait to give it an accurate assessment. I have tried their fried catfish, red snapper and Jamaican-style oxtail, and I would stick to the fish. The ONLY reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because the food isn't consistent. At times it is perfectly fried and seasoned, and at other times it's a little lacking. I am not sure if they have different cooks at different times. I think they deserve a 4.5, but Yelp doesn't allow 1/2 stars. All in all, I would definitely recommend this business! read more

I grew up eating fried seafood (especially fish, oysters, and shrimp) in Florida, but have lived in the Los Angeles area for the last 25 years or so. It did not take long for me to realize that the majority of places that were good for this kind of thing were south of the 10. You can get some good fried fish and oysters north of the 10, but usually these are at high end places and an order might give you 2 oysters on a plate. They might be delicious, but they don't satisfy the nostalgia and homesickness I feel for a plate of fried oysters. Not too long ago I was in a line to, surprise, pick up some seafood. Met this man who, like me, lives in the Pasadena/Glendale area. We started sharing intelligence, and he recommended Pasadena Fish Market for both fried seafood and Jamaican food. Today was my second time going. Both times I ordered fried catfish and fried oysters. Both times I was happy with the food. Some other pluses are worthy of mention. The staff is warm and friendly. They have a nice selection of traditional sides: greens, okra, mac and cheese, rice and peas, etc. And, they consistently stalk jars of good oysters from WA. It is not easy to find jars of oysters in the area. I like frying up oysters at home from time to time and this makes Pasadena Fish Market an important resource. I have not tried the Jamaican food yet, but plan on doing so very soon. For those who haven't been, it's a to-go rather than dine-in place. Great place to pick up some lunch. read more

This is a solid seafood joint, I've been eating here literally since I was a kid. The seafood is always delicious, sure there have been times where it wasn't absolutely perfect but it's been consistently good over the years. I always get the catfish dinner with Mac n cheese and greens. Recently I've been exploring the menu more and I tried their oxtails, they were very well seasoned and delicious. The only thing that I would change would be for it to be served with rice. If you're thinking of trying this place go for it! Also, the customer service is always the same, they are very straightforward, respectful and nice. Don't expect all of the pleasantries though. My coworkers went to Pasadena Fish Market for lunch and I went with a couple of things from their menu. I ordered the red snapper lunch combo ($5.50) which came with fries. I asked for no cole slaw so they gave me double fries which was perfect. I got the red snapper fried but you have an option to get your fish charbroiled as well. I also got a Jamaican beef pattie ($2.50). The red snapper was tasty. You get 3 decent sized pieces of fish that are battered in seasoned flour and fried. I like red snapper a lot and theirs had good flavor and tasted fresh. The fries come with seasoning salt. I think it would be better if the fries were sprinkled with more of it. The lunch combo also comes with a piece of wheat bread, tartar sauce and tabasco sauce. They were perfect condiments and i used both to my liking. Only thing I would change is ask for more tartar sauce next time.... You cant beat the price, thats for sure. The Jamaican beef patty was good but I found the crust to be a little doughy to my liking. I eat Jamaican beef patties whenever I see them on menus and this one is good and a little spicier than the ones I usually have. I waited to eat mine a day later so maybe thats on me that it wasnt as tasty as it otherwise have been. Thursday night... Felt like a fried fish night. And trying new place. I got the 4-way combo: shrimp, oysters, scallops, and fish (whiting). Sides, collared greens and fries. Bro got the same with mac & cheese and fried okra. We were hungry and know fried stuff doesn't do well when cold.. we are it in the car. The good... The seafood tastes fresh, no fishy smell at all. All the seafood was fried well. Inside, the seafood was tender and juicy. Batter, outside, was seasoned and texture was half way between crunchy and crispy. The only good tasting side was the okra. Oh, and the 4-way combo is definitely for two people, so full. The bad... The mac & cheese was bad. Tasted like watered down, over cooked alfredo. Probably the time we went. For a large order like this, we would assume more sauce... Next time, gonna ask for more. The meh... The other sides, fries and collared greens, we got were meh. Fries were not as crispy as the seafood. Collared greens didn't have the ham flavor, perhaps it's vegetarian version. The conclusion... If you take nothing else away from this review, take this: call ahead and if possible, visit on a weekday/night! This place is popular and for good reason. Fresh fish cooked to order, awesome sides, a cool little market with pantry staples, and good prices. We came for dinner takeout on a Saturday night around 7:30 and there was a line out the door! We had tried calling ahead, but I could see when we were there that their phone was ringing off the hook as well. They had one line to order and one line to pick up/pay for orders you placed over the phone. We got in line and placed our orders--fried catfish and shrimp with okra and collards for him, jerk chicken with black eyed peas and collards for me, and sides of yams, mac & cheese, and hushpuppies. It turned out they were out of the black eyed peas and mac & cheese, so we swapped one for fries. They also forgot our yams which we didn't realize until we got home, but no bigs. Once you order, it takes 30-45 (depending on your order and how busy they are) to prepare. We used that time to head over to Vallarta down the street for some cocktail supplies and then headed back to finish up the wait. We left with a ton of food for just over $30 (tip heavy, folks)! I absolutely loved the jerk chicken and surprisingly (I'm not usually into fried fish) really liked the fried catfish. Will def order black eyed peas and mac & cheese to try next time around. Re: parking, it looked like they had a few dedicated spots next door, and then there are a few right out front on Orange Grove. We parked a block over which was fine too. It looked like there might've been some onsite seating at the restaurant pre-COVID, but it was blocked off when we were there. Will have to check next time around. read more

Short and sweet: Good food for take-out only. You HAVE to call into this place. We walked in, and we ended up waiting over 50 minutes for our order! Besides, the dining area is something you definitely want to skip. Broken chairs, and it wasn't the cleanest. You order at the counter where all the fish is. Obviously it's a fish market, so it's kind of smelly too. The saving grace is definitely the food. Fried catfish was excellent, grilled salmon was also a good choice. Fried okra is a MUST get. I typically don't even like okra, but it was FANTASTIC! Fried, but fresh and great flavor! Overall, we were happy with our food. Took it back to our house and they packed the fried food perfectly, so everything was still warm and crispy after a 15 min drive.
