I honestly had almost no expectations before coming here. From the photos and reviews, the place looked pretty run-down, so I figured it might just be one of those local hidden-gem type spots. Even after arriving, I almost changed my mind about ordering because the plaza itself looked very old and rough. I brought my girlfriend with me, and she was actually the one who said that since we were already there, we might as well try it. The restaurant is basically takeout only, and the inside is very simple and worn down. That said, the person taking our order was extremely friendly, which made the experience much better right away. After checking Yelp, I decided to order the Indonesian fried rice, BBQ chicken, and fried chicken. The fried rice was easily the highlight. I got it spicy, and it had a nice kick that made it feel more special. I'm not sure if this is part of the Indonesian style, but there were little bits of noodles mixed into the fried rice, which made it unique and really tasty. It also had a generous amount of meat inside, and the portion was huge. It was probably one of the best fried rice dishes I've had recently. The BBQ chicken was solid too. It had that tasty Hawaiian-style plate lunch feel, came with mac salad, and was seasoned well. The fried chicken was a little mixed for me. The crispy outside was good, but the chicken itself had a slight off taste, like it didn't feel as fresh as I hoped. Not terrible, but definitely not my favorite item. Overall, Top Restaurant surprised me in a good way. The place itself is very no-frills, but the fried rice alone makes it worth coming back. I'd definitely return for that.
I decided to come here because i searched up fried chicken and this place appeared. I came during lunch as i read it might be sold out by dinner. The chicken was lightly battered but seasoned. The sauce it came with was interesting. I prefer it with no sauce but if you use the sauce it starts to grow on you. Mac salad is by scoop. They charge about 3 something for 1 scoop. It was not bad. I felt like it was missing something but not quite sure what. For the chicken, they have 3 options. 6 pieces. Or 4 pieces with either rice or mac salad. All 3 option is about $15. Since they make it fresh, it takes about 15 minutes to make. I noticed alot of people call in to place their orders then pick it up. But that makes sense since you cant dine in. At least they have a few chairs for people to sit on and wait. You can find the fried chciken on the nenu towards the bottom. Parking is not bad its in the same lot as o reileys
Small mom-and-pop Indonesian & Hawaiian spot w/ just takeout service and a few seats inside to wait for food. We ordered the Indonesian fried rice w/ chicken (medium spice) and the mini loco moco. The fried rice had a good kick, tons of flavor, and was sooo addicting. The loco moco was hearty and not too salty (good for Asian palette). Portions were generous. Both dishes were more than enough for 2 people and kept us full for hours. Friendly service as well! Will be coming back and trying more of the menu!

But the Hawaiian combo plate was less impressive. It's a small place located in a strip mall with just a counter to order. No dine-in tables. Wow! You heard right, this was some of the best crispy fried chicken we've had in a long time! My wife loves fried chicken, and while I've taken her to other places, she still loves Jollibee. But, move over Jollibee, we have a new king! This crispy fried chicken was excellent! I read online that it's off the menu and they only make about 60 orders a day, so plan ahead if you want to try it! I was a little disappointed there's no place to sit down, as they are take-out only. However, they go to great lengths to ensure you enjoy your crispy chicken while it's still crispy. The cashier made sure to emphasize the importance of letting the styrofoam box breathe by leaving it open inside the plastic bag, which keeps the chicken crispy. They truly have it down to a science! This chicken was incredibly crispy, and the meat was succulent and juicy. They also provide a soy sauce dipping sauce that pairs really well with the fried chicken. You absolutely HAVE to try the crispy fried chicken at Top Restaurant! It's the best I've ever had - you won't be disappointed!
Parking was plentiful at Top Restaurant; after all, it's in a medium sized plaza, and there weren't many people around during dinner time. At the time of visit, there was no dine-in service, and all orders were takeout only. We had their Crispy Fried Chicken and Oseng Oseng Fried Rice. In terms of quantity, they definitely checked that box, enough for two meals each! The crispy fried chicken was good, though a tad on the plain side without sauce. Their oseng oseng was made better by their chili sauce. Initially, it looked like an amazing meal. However, a few bites in and the rice to protein portions were very rice heavy, almost an inch deep of rice. If you enjoy rice, you'll love it! However, if you're looking for a more balanced meal, you may want to consider another option.

This is my third visit and every single time it delivers. This is an Indonesian/Hawaiian restaurant -- and a seriously impressive one. The menu spans both worlds, and no matter which direction you go, you're in for something special. Take out only, no tables, but trust me -- you won't care. The 4 Piece Indonesian Fried Chicken with rice is an absolute must. Some of the best fried chicken I have ever had. The crust is insanely crispy, the seasoning is perfect, and the Indonesian dipping sauce ties it all together in a way that's completely unique. This alone is worth the drive. The Hawaiian plates are equally impressive. The short ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender, the beef and chicken were perfectly marinated -- sweet, savory, and deeply flavorful. Everything comes with rice and a creamy mac salad, and the Hawaiian Sun drinks (Mango Orange and Strawberry Lilikoi) are the perfect companion to wash it all down. Plates run between $16-$20 but the portions are generous and the quality is exceptional -- you absolutely get your money's worth. The owner and cook are extraordinarily welcoming, and everything comes out hot and fresh every single time. Top Restaurant is a hidden gem of the highest order. If you're in Pasadena, make the trip.
So I saw this place on IG and really wanted to check them out. Too bad they didn't have indoor seating nor outdoor seating cause I think the juices from the chicken kinda dried out by the time I got to the park. It was still crispy but a little dry. It also came with a soy based chili sauce that helped it a bit. I'm sad that you can't order all dark meat but I did get it predominantly dark except for two pieces out of six. It was a bit pricey but I can check off my bucket list that I tried it. If I'm in the area again and craving fried chicken I'd go back. Service was quick even though others were waiting for their meals. I did place my order while driving there so we just waited three minutes after paying. No place to sit and eat. They did have seats but no tables. Order to go only.
This place has been on my to try list for along time, and I was finally able to try it recently. I ordered their fried chicken, short rib bbq plate, and two spam musubis. For all of these items, the check was just under $50 (inflation amirite?). I inhaled my spam musubi with egg on the ride back home, and quickly opened up and ate the short rib plate and fried chicken to try to eat it while it was hot. The food in my opinion was delicious. The fried chicken is still not my absolute number 1 fried chicken of all time, but it was still good. A little too oily for me, but then again...it is fried chicken.

When I was in Pasadena this spot was my go to. Love the katsu and pork. The fried chicken is also amazing. However this spot is only take out. Service is great, very kind and helpful.
The best fried chicken bar none! So crispy and full of flavor. Very low key; takeaway corner, no indoor seating available. Staff are friendly and polite. Seems to be best to call in advance so it's ready to pick up and then enjoy in a nearby park. Can't wait to come back.
ONLY TOGO Crispy fried chicken was so good! Flavorful and crispy. The sauce was good. I will definitely come back again! Decent amount for the price! Cashier super friendly as well! Told me not to close the cap and the food stayed amazing after my one hour drive home.

Accidentally went there. I was looking for a car part at the O'Reilly auto parts that anchors this strip mall and decided to walk over to see the restaurant. While I was staring at the menu deciding whether I wanted to get anything, several people came and went with their orders and everyone told me to get the fried chicken. So, I went inside and got the fried chicken with macaroni salad. A few mintues later, I added a katsu musubi to the order. This is not fast-food. The wait is real. About 12 minutes. I then had probably about 10 minutes of driving before I sat down to eat. The fried chicken is delicious and has a great crispy/crunchy skin. There is a faint sweetness that coats the chicken. The meat was not super plump like some national-chain places (I think those places brine-injected the chicken). Depending on your preference, this might feel too dry to you. Their dipping sauce for the chicken is very tasty. If they just sold that in bottles, I'd come just to buy that for use at home! Speaking of preferences, the macaroni salad is also well made, but it's simple and might be disappointing if you're expecting some kind of flavor kick. I liked it very much, because it is in the style of the basic macaroni salad -- someone described it as going home to Hawaii for them -- and I think that's what it is. Portions were enough to split into two meals. So I had half of my chicken and the mac salad. I had planned to also only eat half of the musubi. But it was delicious and had a nice crunch which I'm sure would not have held up being kept in the fridge. I really enjoyed the musubi on its own, but also enjoyed taking turns with bites with that sauce added on. I stored the rest of the chicken and mac salad in the fridge and then had them for dinner 6 hours later. Despite being in the fridge, the chicken still had a bit of a crunchy bite to it - it wasn't a mushy soggy mess. Very friendly service. This is not a sit-down place you go to for a dining experience - just a solid place to get food to go that will be delicious. I heard good things about their fried chicken, so I called ahead for pickup and ordered their 4-piece fried chicken with macaroni salad. It is a small, unassuming little place with a free parking lot. Upon entering, I was greeted warmly, and I have to say, the service was great! The lady at the counter was super sweet and made small talk with me. I got my order which came out to $17.12 after tax. Food-wise, the fried chicken was indeed delicious! I loved the batter: it was shatteringly crisp. The chicken was tender and flavored well, but I loved the sauce that came with it! For the mac salad, I thought it was just okay. It tasted a bit plain from other mac salads I've tried, but the noodles were cooked perfectly. For the price, the portion size is okay, but I'm not complaining since the food was good. It's like they used half the seasoning they were supposed to use. Ono has way better food. The Indonesian fried rice is soo underwhelming. I don't think I've ever had Indonesian fried rice lack flavor but in honestly all of the food lacked flavor. Never coming back here. I don't know how it has such high ratings. Maybe when they first opened it was good? But for sure it's not that great at the moment I got my food. Quite disappointing especially when you're hungry read more

I Love this place! Little hole in the wall spot with a friendly staff serving Indonesian and Hawaiian food. Prices are good and the food is delicious. Only con is that it's pick-up only. One of my go to spots when I'm in Pasadena looking for a quick filling meal. read more

Came here for the fried chicken, of course. I got the six piece ($14.39) and when it was fresh, I can see why so many recommend / return for more. It was crispy and savory, although some bites were a bit too salty for my taste. There weren't a lot of meat on some pieces but it was still enjoyable. I also ordered the Indonesian fried rice and it was a bit reminiscent of nasi goreng of a restaurant I used to frequent in the westside on National. Delicious and very filling. Ordering was simple in person; I tried to call in to order ahead but couldn't get through. There is no dine in area so this is strictly a take out only place. Not to be confused with Tops, which is also in Pasadena! This unique Indonesian-Hawaiian restaurant is located in a low key plaza with little traffic and cars during the time that we visited. When we went they were only doing take out orders and unfortunately, they were already sold out of their famous fried chicken. Darn! Next time for sure. We got the: 1) Oseng Spicy Combo Fried Rice: -Pretty large portion of fried rice that came with a generous amount of meat for the toppings (chicken, shrimp, beef), as well as veggies. -Rice was nicely seasoned and moist. Had a nice kick at the start with a subtle heat throughout with the chilis. -Good garlic taste along with the onions and shallots. Nice combo of very slightly sweet with savory. -Delicious. 2) Fish Musubi: -Usually don't see fish musubi being offered and the filet was nice and slightly crispy on the outside and moist and fluffy on the inside. -Pretty good musubi. 3) Kalua Pork with Cabbage: -Staple Hawaiian dish. -The pork was super moist and tender. Nice rich and smoky flavor went great with the cabbage. -Can't go wrong with a classic. Will definitely come back for their fried chicken! read more

I can't tell you how many times my partner and I sought comfort food from this place, as not only is the food comforting, their staff is too!! I do not know her name unfortunately but there is always this one kind lady at the front who is so welcoming both on phone and in person! We usually choose to do phone orders for pickup, and always had speedy pickup times (usually as short as 15-20 mins!) For food, we always love to get the Indonesian fried noodles, combo noodles, fried chicken, loco moco, macaroni salad. The noodles are one of my favorite fried noodles to eat (And that's a lot to say as I am a HUGE noodle lover!) and their chicken is so crispy and delicious! read more

Worst fried rice I've ever had. Flavorless dry rice. To add injury to insult this cost me $18. For rice and processed meat Said it would be ten minutes when I ordered, was closer to twenty. Should have realized this was setting the tone for my experience. read more
When your wife tells you "the best crunchy fried chicken to eat is in Pasadena", you should believe her and get in the car. Top Restaurant is a hole-in-the wall Hawaiian bbq joint that happens to also be Indonesian Fusion. They're located inside a strip mall in Pasadena on Colorado/Allen Ave. There's plenty of free parking inside this corner shopping plaza. Top Restaurant opens at 11am and they only do take-out or phone orders. After you place your order, you can grab a chair inside, stand outside, or return in the standard 35-40 minute wait since all food is cooked fresh. The Crispy Fried chicken is sold to 1 customer only at a time and they only make around 45 orders a day. One order contains six pieces and comes with house and spicy sauce. This was a great place to checkout and see how locals in Pasadena dine. I definitely was intrigued by the Indonesian fried rice and it did not disappoint. The rice had noodles too and was the perfect pairing to go with the crispy fried chicken. No one should ever judge a book by its cover because Top Restaurant is living up to its name! read more
Food is so good!! We got the fried chicken and Indonesian fried rice. Chicken was super crispy and moist. The people here are super kind and you can tell they put in a lot of effort in the food at service. We asked about other popular items and the person at the cashier carefully explained each item telling us what was in it. We were craving Hawaiian BBQ and decided to try this place out. The lady who helped us was very pleasant and welcoming. It took about 20 minutes for our food to be ready. There's only take out and several chairs inside for customers to sit and wait. Food ordered: spam musubi, BBQ chicken & short rib combo and Indonesian fried rice Spam musubi was good! I've tried it from other places and the spam sometimes is too dry or thin. This one had the right amount of sauce and spam to rice ratio. BBQ chicke & short ribs combo was a decent portion. I can't put my finger on it, but the sauce is different than what I expected from Hawaiian BBQ. It's different, not bad. Ribs were good, but not as meaty as other places. Stopped by for some fried chicken. Left satisfied! Big parking lot. You can order ahead the default answer is 30 minutes for food to be ready for pickup (unless they finish quicker). You can pay in person. For the fried chicken they only have limited number of orders per day and while I heard they don't take phone orders for fried chicken, we were able to order ahead. Fried chicken was nice and crispy with some savory aftertaste kinda like soy sauce or something like out of a ramen seasoning packet. It comes with a dark sweet sauce as well. read more

Can't believe I didn't try this sooner! I know TikTok is in the middle of potentially getting banned but if not for TikTok, I wouldn't have found Top. Tucked in a small plaza, this takeout-only restaurant had quite a wait at 6pm on a weekday. My bf and I were there to try the popular fried chicken and we came at the perfect time because we were the very last chicken order of the day! We also got the bbq mix plate to share. Fried chicken: 1000000/10 LOVE. I understand the hype now. Bbq mix: Forget ono, come here! It's actually the best I've ever had and I had this in Hawaii. Overall, amazing food and I can see why so many people rave about this place. The auntie that took our order was so sweet. Can't wait to come back! read more

Does anybody pick up the phone? I've called 8 times and no one is answering. Tried calling right when they opened for a half hour.
