We started with the House Pickles and some fresh oysters. Our server was great at recommending some oysters in different flavor profiles, since we liked the milkier, less briny-tasting varieties. His recs were spot on too, and I loved that they provided house-prepared mignontette and horseradish. Then, we shared the Maryland blue crab cake (one cake that was big enough for its own meal) and the U10 Diver Scallops that came in a sauce of cream, spinach and bacon, and a side of buttery, soft bread. I make scallops all the time at home and never would have thought of a sauce like this... it was dreamy! We used the bread to just about clean the plate (since it isn't really socially acceptable to lick a plate in a restaurant), and I'm still thinking about the scallops and that sauce today. The crab cake and pickles were excellent too. We paired everything with some crisp New Zealand sauv blanc. One of his customers accidentally drove into the wall in the parking lot. Instead of getting upset or angry, Leroy's first reaction was to make sure she was okay. I helped translate for them, and he kept reassuring her, saying, "As long as you're okay, everything else is okay." He told her not to worry about the damage because he was just happy she wasn't hurt. Seeing how shaken and upset she was, he even gave her a quick side hug to comfort her. In a situation where many people would have focused on the accident, Leroy chose kindness and empathy. That says so much about his character. It's rare to meet someone who genuinely puts people before property, and I think that's something worth recognizing and supporting.
