Years ago, I spent some time with Pasadena Lighting through several phases of construction and expansion on our home. After that, I went back from time-to-time when we needed something. They had great expertise, which helped me find what I was looking for, and were also able to make modifications and repairs. The service was always great! There are not enough shops like them today, with the personal service for purchases as well as ability to modify and repair fixtures. I'm sorry to see that they have closed. read more

Dean and team were awesome! I have an antique lamp which is special to me, but I wasn't ready to spend hundreds on fixing it. Other places I called started their quotes at $200-$300...Dean sounded like a nice guy when I called, and started his quote at under $100. I left my lamp with them, and it was fixed immediately and it was even less to fix than we thought, because it was just the switch, not the whole wire. Other places were telling me I would most likely have to rewire the whole thing...yeah, right. If you want people who have great customer service who you can trust with your antiques, you have found the right place. I had the worst customer experience at Pasadena Lighting today, and even though this is my first ever Yelp review, I told the part-owner that I would write it and she said "go ahead" as she escorted me out of the store. I came back to this business for a lamp repair, based on the great experience I had two years ago, when they rewired and refurbished my two valuable vintage Frederick Cooper mid-century brass lamps. One had recently fallen and I was heartbroken over a crack in the brass. I was helped by a rude and gruff "part-owner" who was cross from the beginning. I believe that she just didn't want to take the liability of fixing it, but instead of politely telling me that they couldn't fix it, she blamed me for wanting to spend my money and argued with me, insisting that I was mistaken that I had ever taken my lamps there for repair. I became tearful and apologized for being sensitive, but she snarled that I was not sensitive for bringing my granddaughter into the store with me - even though she was the most well-mannered person in the shop. My granddaughter quietly observed the interactions, and in her youthful wisdom she told me in the car to give them a 1-star Yelp review. I am submitting this review to warn folks that the "part-owner" is rude, accusatory, and not pleasant. I do not recommend this business. I will take her advice and take all my business elsewhere. I walked in after a year of absence to speak with Dean, I got an earful saying he did not have the capacity to deal with me due to the recent fires. It's hard not to take that personally. I too suffered loss but I don't need to wear that on my sleeve. He did reference last year when I came in we spent time trying to put together a plan that might've taken 45 minutes of his time. Shortly, after our visit, I had a family emergency in which I disappeared for the last year. I came back to reenact what we needed to do and was pretty much shut down for wasting his time. No product was ordered at that time nor were they sitting on any product I might have ordered. It was beyond obvious he had a grudge against working with people at this time. I have worked with this company for YEARS with wonderful recommendations but this seems so strange and odd... I could only grab my keys and walk away... read more

I stopped by Pasadena Lighting today for a small clip on lampshade. They didn't have what I was looking for but Dean came up with a better solution and gave me all the information needed to understand the appropriate dimensions for the shade. The store expertly rewired an antique lamp for me last year which is why I thought of going there today. Dean is a really kind and considerate man, came into to rewire a European mushroom lamp but he was very forthcoming and honest that it'd just be more affordable to get a converter. He also tested my European light bulb for me and made sure the wiring worked (I haven't used the lamp since owning it for the last 4 years). Just went to Pasadena Lighting today after being tired of going to hardware stores and being told They don't carry the light bulb I need or just being ignored. I walked in with a gallon ziplock bag full of random lightbulbs from all over the house and was warmly greeted by Dean. He examined all my bulbs and knew right away what to replace or had great recommendations for what I wanted to replace with. He even recommended a light bulb extender bc we have a crazy deep recessed light that normal light bulb would never reach. Honestly Dean was so helpful and was the epitome of customer service. And anyway, I needed to see what I was buying this time. I know Pasadena Lighting has been there for a long time because we had purchased through them, years before. But honestly, that time I had seen the item I wanted at another store first. They won my business because they were competitively priced. But that was pre-internet days. I have a bedside lamp purchased 13 years ago from Lamps Plus. In order to change the bulbs I need a special tool to disassemble the lamp. However I did not receive it so a salesman at Lamps Plus gave me one that he had with him. It had been a while since I changed the bulbs plus my cognitive functioning has been impaired by my disability so a couple of years ago as I was fiddling with the parts (metal and glass), I put them back incorrectly and couldn't take them apart. (Lamps Plus no longer sells the lamp.) I didn't want to throw away a working lamp which only needed new bulbs plus I hate being ridiculed and humiliated by insensitive people (it happens) so I kept it by my bed as the lights grew dimmer and my eyesight worsened. After reading reviews I decided to risk ridicule and took my tool, extra lightbulbs, and the lamp with its fragile wobbly parts into Pasadena Lighting. Lighting consultant Dean Aldridge used a letter opener and his own tool (similar to the one I had but better fitting) and patiently coaxed the pieces apart. Then he tested each bulb before reassembling everything. He was not only detail-oriented but patient. I kept apologizing but Dean reassured me and tactfully explained how to reassemble the lamp. I purchased the tool because I want to be self-reliant. Nevertheless Dean told me I could bring the lamp in and he will change the bulbs for me. read more

I clearly should have checked yelp before doing business with these people. The original bid was a quarter of the final cost. They did NOT provide mounting hardware with the fixtures and then tried to make me pay extra. They were incredibly dismissive at times. I paid nearly $900 to wire and UL list two lamps. That is outrageous. This place is a huge rip off. I even tried to deal with "Lita" and Dennis, the alleged owners. Dean is the other person I dealt with and my electrician had issues with them as well. Avoid this place. They only seem to want to rip you off and upcharge you at any opportunity **Now they are calling to harass me about picking up my lights immediately and calling my electrician saying I threatened them. No. I asked them to give me the appropriate hardware to hang two lights. And the "Lita" person shouted at me on the phone and never even gave me a chance to speak to them. I couldn't get a word in, how could I possibly "threaten" her if I'm never able to speak? I've given them at least 5 chances to make this right. Now they can deal with my credit card company for overcharging me for the minimal work they did. I don't need to threaten them, they just will have to deal with them instead of me. I don't have time for this and you probably don't either. AVOID. Over-priced and combative if you have any issues. As long as you are ok getting ripped off, go ahead and deal with them. And it gets even better. Since Lita would not let me speak and was yelling at me and my electrician on the phone, I chose to let her go to voicemail after receiving three phone calls in less than 2 hours. Now she is threatening me to call my husband because I won't talk to her. Actually, I tried to talk to her but she kept yelling at me. I cannot deal with a person like this. We have a beautiful celadon lamp from Japan that had wiring issues and a harp that didn't fit, causing the shade to be slightly askew. It was askew for at least ten years and we didn't really think it could be fixed. But Dennis at Pasadena Lighting was awesome. He not only rewired it so it would be safe, he fixed the harp attachment and voila, we have a lamp that looks awesome! Dennis also fixed it within hours, so we didn't go one night without light. I'm a few months late with my review, but I'm still happy about my experience at Pasadena Lighting. My ceramic lampshade broke during my move, and the lamp is no longer made. Pasadena Lighting was just the right place to help me. They had a perfect lampshade match, and it was a random piece in their inventory that only the salesperson remembered was there. Just visited and spoke to an individual (didn't catch his name), that was everything but helpful. I have a client that's looking for a specific type of recessed lighting kit with a metal trim piece. I need two for her bathroom. A number of the samples they have on display are apparently just for show - was told these businesses have gone out of business or what not. So, I inquire about some WAC lighting as a starting point. Twice the guy helping me told me to first "talk to my contractor about the specs" or "ask your designer for the specs on the light you need". Sexist much? This was even after I said I'm looking for lighting for my client. I'm the designer! To top that off, I wanted info on pricing for two WAC lights so I could provide my client with some numbers if she decided to order but was told he "wasn't going to bother his rep to price out two lights." So clients should order on blind faith that your pricing will be competitive? Give me a break. I guess this little shop in Pasadena only works with those who have large orders. I am constantly looking to support local businesses when possible. Family-owned, customer oriented, and quality products are what make small businesses different from all the big competitors. Don't judge a store by what's on the outside because when it comes to Pasadena Lighting, they've got all of the above and more. I came in a few weeks ago looking for a bulb that had been difficult to find, but my attention was initially diverted by their immaculate showroom that has many modern and traditional fixtures. I spoke to Dean, the Sales Manager, who was very pleasant and quickly recognized the bulb and sold it to me at a reasonable price. I also came back earlier last week to browse for pendants to go over my kitchen bar area. Dean was very knowledgeable when looking through the catalogs of different vendors and helped me find the perfect pendants for my kitchen at a great price! It is hard to believe some of these reviews that appear to be slightly embellished in an attempt to threaten the integrity and reliability of this quality local business. Unfortunately, there are some people in this world simply cannot be pleased. I look forward to coming back to Pasadena Lighting for all of my future lighting needs! read more
