Well, here's a story you don't hear every day. In early December, our son took one of our cars from Sacramento to visit his girlfriend in SLO for an event she had. Unfortunately, the car's transmission quit on him just outside of Paso Robles. He's a tough, young college athlete, but even he was a bit fearful and unsure of what to do, as it was night and very dark out on the road. We could hear it through the phone as he called us from miles away. After many back and forths and attempts to reach AAA, out of nowhere he told us, "Hang on...a tow truck is stopping." Out jumps Bernie (I hope I am getting his name right.), who ultimately towed the truck to what we later learned is a very reputable mechanic in Paso (Jorge of Dave Foltz Automotive). In talking to Bernie and trying to figure out how to pay him, he said, basically, "No problem. I just happen to be out here on this stretch of road, so don't worry about it. Happy I could help." Our son was put at immediate ease; the car was put in good hands and later fixed---all because of Bernie and Pete Johnston Towing. I don't expect anyone to ever work for free, but showing kindness and offering help when someone needs it is the mark of a good business and reflected in its employees. I would recommend Pete Johnson Towing to anyone and am indebted to them. I have to finish this story, as it becomes borderline unbelievable. The transmission was replaced by Jorge, who was mentioned above, and I took a road trip to pay for and pick up the car just after Christmas. On the way back to Sacramento after paying the bill, GPS directed us off of 101 at King City where road work had backed traffic down from three lanes to one. In a cruel twist of fate, the dark, rural road to which I was directed, unfortunately, contained a black cow that had wandered from its ranch and, not seeing it, we hit it, totaling the car from this story. Fortunately, no one was hurt. I couldn't be more disappointed by this outcome, but it in no way takes anything away from the generosity of the service reviewed here. I am grateful to know there are people and businesses out there like this one. read more

I am extremely disappointed and appalled by the actions of Paso Robles Towing's driver during my recent experience. Not only did they fail to provide the expected towing service, but they also engaged in disgraceful and unethical behavior. During the towing process, the driver took advantage of the situation by stealing money from my personal wallet. This act of theft is completely unacceptable and reflects poorly on the integrity of the company as a whole. It is even more disheartening to learn that the driver responsible is one of the owners themselves. Furthermore, after pocketing the money, the driver callously dumped the wallet on the street which I have active location still , showing a complete lack of respect for personal belongings. This kind of behavior is an abuse of power and demonstrates a lack of professionalism and empathy. As a customer, I trusted Paso Robles Towing to handle my towing needs in a responsible and honest manner. Unfortunately, this incident has shattered that trust and I am left feeling violated and disrespected. I expected a level of professionalism from a company in this industry, and this experience has proven otherwise. I strongly urge the owners of Paso Robles Towing to address this issue immediately and take appropriate actions to rectify the situation. It is vital that they hold their employees accountable for their actions and reevaluate their hiring and training processes to ensure such incidents do not occur in the future. Based on this unfortunate incident, I cannot, in good conscience, recommend Paso Robles Towing to others. The unscrupulous behavior exhibited by their driver, especially considering their ownership status, is disgraceful and tarnishes the reputation of the company. read more

Wanted to write a Facebook review for them but Yelp is good enough! If you are ever stuck in the mud on a rainy day on the side of the road on an on-ramp, give Pete Johnston a call. The other day I stupidly hydroplaned going on an on-ramp, over corrected and went over a canal and ended up getting stuck in some mud on the OPPOSITE side of the canal. Normally they wouldn't have been able to help because it was nearly too far off the road. The first guy had almost no idea how we would get it out! Gave his boss a quick ring, whom has 30+ years experience and also is a freaking genius. He showed up promptly, assessed the situation, and backed up a flatbed across the canal. Also they put wood across to assist in backing my truck up onto the flatbed. Would probably still be stuck in that mud if it weren't for them. Not only did I not scratch my truck going over the canal, they didn't scratch it getting it out! The truck was in such a bad spot, angled on the side of a hill over a canal, and it still got out! Didn't have any damages and was so relieved! Not only that it took 2 trucks to get me out and they decided to give me a deal because I was having a rough night. These guys are real troopers, did it all in the mud and rain! Ill take $150 to good hardworking dudes over $1000+ in damages any day! Thanks again fellas! read more

If I could leave zero stars I would. I would never, ever recommend Pete Johnston Towing to anyone. My vehicle was in an accident and the CHP called for a tow. I told the driver that I wanted it towed to my house around the corner and he basically bullied me into having the car towed to their yard. When we went to their yard the gates were open, there was a lady pulling stuff out of a car, and there were no signs indicating we could not be there. As soon as we pulled in Sergio and Bernie came running up and told us to "get the f**k out of the yard you have to talk to the office". After we pulled out of the yard Sergio yelled to the office lady "don't help him" and when we went up to the window she told us "I can't help you". We had to get the CHP and another towing company involved before they released our vehicle, all the while Sergio, Bernie and two office women ignored us. When we paid for the fees (through a third party because no one would talk to us) we were told that they couldn't give us an invoice because Sergio didn't know how to turn on the computer. It took 2 phone calls and almost 24 hours after we towed our car to be able to receive an itemized invoice. These people are CROOKED! Terrible customer service. read more

First of all, Sergio and his drivers won't think twice about ripping you off! Secondly, the woman who answers the phones absolutely should not be in customer service! I've had AAA for 25 years, so unfortunately I've had no choice but to use these clowns since they're the one's who are always sent out. After having to wait four hours for a five mile tow, Rogelio showed up and actually refused to tow my truck just because it had a toolbox in the back! We're not talking "Utility bed" tool box, we're talking 3/4 ton truck with a cheap Walmart toolbox that's used just to hold a few personal tools! When I called the office to see if they were sending anyone else considering I had already been waiting for FOUR hours, the woman who answered started yelling at me and blaming me for not mentioning my small, personal toolbox! After calling AAA back and still not being able to get someone to come tow my truck off the on-ramp, I've decided to cancel AAA! Absolutely worthless!! read more

They towed my vehicle from vine and 32nd to gars transmission , we followed in another truck , the driver in the middle of the freeway did an abrupt stop to change someones tire in the middle of taking my car to shop and the tow chain smacked and cracked my radiator and dumpped all out right then. The driver took a look and agreed it was the chain that did it said call his company they would take care of it. Called lady said they take care of it they did not. Called AAA told them they fought and said were is proof. Finally talked to both owners a dan and pete they are so scantless and rude , they said its my word vs. Theres they win. And this dan as my mom was just going to take care of cost so we could get back to freeport texas but oh no dan said i was lying and got my mom to not pay and now left me homeless and stranded this company is a joke with many of the high star ratings from employees and fake accounts they are criminals WATCH OUT!! read more

Major gratitude to Sergio and Bob of Pete Johnston Towing! Found myself broken down in Paso at the end of a holiday weekend trying to get back to So. Cal. Called AAA and they put me in contact with this company. Bob came out first to assess the situation (needed a flat bed truck with a crew cab to get all of us home) and stayed for almost an hour just to make sure we were OK and to assure us that they were going to handle the situation. Shortly thereafter Sergio arrived with the flat bed and we all piled into the crew cab and settled in for a 198 mile trip home! Sergio was super pleasant and easy-going and had no problem with all the pit stops involved. Even bumper to bumper traffic on I-5 SB didn't faze him (not to mention the fact that he had to turn around and get back home after dropping us off!) I am so thankful for this company and the service they provided! read more

I would give Sergio 10 stars if I could. After a great weekend in Morro Bay, we headed home to the Central Valley and ended up breaking down in Paso Robles. I called AAA and was blessed when Sergio from Pete Johnston Towing showed up 20 minutes earlier than they told me. Once the car was lifted he immediately saw the issue. Turns out when I had my oil changed before our trip the tech only hand tightened the oil plug. Lucky for us it was still sitting right there. We got the plug back in and he towed us to an automotive store where we got oil. He stayed with us the entire time to make sure we were safe and ready to go. We were back on the road within an hour. Sergio was our angel that day and I can't thank him enough. He was so kind and has a great sense of humor. If you ever break down in Paso, hopefully Sergio will be your angel too read more

I was in Paso Robles last week, visiting family, and on my way home i broke down on 46 W. I call a tow company in San Luis by mistake, then i found Pete Johnston's phone number. I called in and spoke to a sweet young lady named Tina, SHE WAS A HUGE HELP. She made sure i was safe before she did anything else, got all my information, and had one of her drivers to me within minutes! I had no idea where I was, and I was unsure of where I should go. Between her, and the driver, I made it back to Santa Barbara within hours! They are quick, reliable, and VERY kind to their customers. My vehicle just needed a quick jump start, however I am not good with vehicles, so it was refreshing to get such excellent service on my short trip. Excellent customer service! The crew from Pete Johnston AAA has come to my rescue 3 times this year and have been wonderful each time starting with their office gal. She's always been very kind and really put me at ease when I was freaking out because I locked my baby in the car. She called their service guy, I think his name is Daniel, who arrived to my car and had the door unlocked in less 15 minutes and I was all the way out at the Ravine. Sandra even called me back after to make sure my baby (and I :) were ok. I also recently had to have my car towed and that driver was also wonderful. I have a classic Car a 1955 Bel Air convertible. I had just had some engine work done and was driving in Templeton towards Paso Robles when my car broke down. I have Triple A and the sent a flat bed with and a regular tow truck to help out. They were aware that it was lowered and informed me that a modification on how to load it needed to take place. They took extra car to wrap towels around each wheel when strapping it down to make sure they would not damage the rims. They told me of the process and how they have towed many classic vehicles in the past. I will ONLY call Paso Robles towing if I ever need to be towed again. They are truly a step above!!! read more

Im not familiar with tow companies and prices, but i do know this is the place to go! I had a great experience! from the office gal, to the tow of my street bike! I needed my street bike towed from my house to a shop in paso robles. The drivers name was Valentin and he was super cool and very careful with handling my bike. I didnt have to wait more than about 15- 20 mins for him to show up, i ended up getting a lift to the shop with him and even his tow truck was clean. All around great company in my opinion .. from the office calls to make sure i was satisfied, to the tow itself. Thanks for the wonderful service Mr. Johnston. read more

I got a Yelp account ONLY for the purpose of leaving this review. Wow, these guys are actual life savers. We had a real emergency, a baby was locked in the car and these guys are true heroes. We called them, the dispatcher was really fast, gave us an ETA of 5 minutes but they showed up in 3! Once they got to the vehicle, it took SECONDS to open the door and the two guys were unbelievably kind. I am incredibly thankful we called Paso Robles Towing. Car broke down in a rainstorm on 46.... Even the flashers stopped working. I was sure it would be hours for help to get to me as there were lots of accidents and other incidents being reported in the news. Thanks to the wonderful teamwork of Shirley Chris and Sergio My car was towed to Cambria under decidedly adverse weather conditions. Shirley coordinated, Chris came to make sure situation was safe, Sergio arrived shortly after. Fast and excellent service on a very wild and crazy weather day. Go elsewhere!!! I usually don't like to leave or even read reviews, but everyone should be warned about these guys!! They will rip you off in anyway they could find. My family and I have had to use them over the past several years, and every single time, they have done us wrong! They've stolen from our cars, dented one of them and denied it and have kept our keys, forcing us to spend $450 to replace them. Take our word for it and stay away!! If you have AAA and break down in Paso, tell them you want to use one of the other tow companies!! read more

I was on my way to work a couple weeks ago when i walked into chevron for my morning coffee, i came out and realized my keys were locked in my vehicle! i was in a hurry and i needed to get to work and luckily pete johnston towing was who i got! the driver Jacob, was super efficient and so careful with my car. I am very pleased with the service and i can say the drivers are very fast and awesome! i ended up making it to work on time which was a bonus! Life savor!!! There is nothing worse than being stuck in the mud on the side of the road in the middle of the night while it's raining! I called AAA and they told me the wait time was 2 hours. Bernie came in 15 minutes! I was more than thrilled! He was able to pull me out in no time! I really thought I was going to have to sleep in my car that night. Driver tried making my kid pay $200 extra in return for them not telling me or my wife he ran off the road into a ditch. We've tried to avoid using these crooks for years but somehow they've managed to hold on to that AAA contract so we haven't had a choice on several occasions. After this last encounter, we decided to cancel AAA all together so we can chose not to use these guys and by the way if you have a female teenage driver, definitely do not use these guys! read more

I broke down on a back road with my horse trailer. I called AAA and was blessed with Sergio and his son. Sergio knew right away what the problem was with my truck and instead of taking me to a mechanic he fixed it! Who does that? Well? Sergio.
