We've been missing our Seattle hikes like crazy this year so the last few weeks we've been trying…read moreout the reservoir trails near Orinda. Enter in San Pablo Reservoir. It's a beautiful trail. It's shaded and generally well traveled. We didn't realize until we got to the Orinda Connector Staging Area location that it was permit only, however it was simple to find the permit online and easily purchase a $3 day pass while standing in front of the sign, which is located at 520 San Pablo Dam Road, and the sign-in sheet is down and around the corner from the gate. If you start at the same staging area, the first 5 minutes of the hike is a rocky trip down, but in my opinion is a much easier hike back up, which I didn't expect, and is generally otherwise low impact (although dusty). Our visit really convinced us to try out other trails in the area and we were surprised at how much we enjoyed the area and the view.

This employee is a male who drives white Mitsubishi, was literally yelling at families with little kids and pregnant women. More than 10 cars started to pile up right in front of the exit gate and he came driving very recklessly towards the exit gate and also inside park and parking lot. This guy needs to control his emotions and need an anger management class.

The funkiness of the creative touches were cool. It was nice and sunny and there was a slight breeze. There were tables to sit, an unmanned cart for food, and the stage. I find it interesting that all of that was there because until I came to another restaurant in the area, I didn't know that this area existed. Now driving there is a beast because the roads are littered with potholes and there are areas where there is essentially one lane to drive, so you have to be very, very careful. But this spot, once you get to it, is it worth it? Maybe, it depends on what's going on. I'd love for them to have a bit more going on, but I respect the fact that it is so far out of the way that it may be a bit difficult. The marina down there is quite small and there's no way to tell how much business would come by that. So, this wouldn't be a destination like Berkeley or Richmond Marina's where they have options if you want to eat, but it's cute and funky and with the restaurant they have in the area, it's not a waste of time.

Each item in their work orders is either a fixed price or an accurate, reasonable estimate that they usually come in under. If additional work is needed they ask for a change order. Jaime keeps me in the loop as they work through issues. I can get at the boat 24/7 if necessary while it's in the yard. I used to get a bottle of wine along with my bill from KKMI, and it was the most expensive wine I ever got. Bay Marine has good communication, prices no higher than they have to be, and an always filled candy dish in the office. Good enough for me.

Most of the park is flat with lots of picnic grounds, including barbecues, but it also extends up into the hills behind the park with hiking trails. Jan was very quick to reply, graciously answered all of my questions before booking, and remained in great communication throughout the entire process leading up to the date. Even when I had last minute changes of adding an additional person and pushing back the reservation time, Jan was very flexible and happy to accommodate. Prior to booking, I had seen a couple photos on Jan's website as well as photos posted by other reviewers, however, reality far exceeded my expectations. The catamaran is very roomy, plenty of space for our group of 6. Moreover, you can tell Jan keeps his catamaran well maintained--very clean! Upon realizing we were celebrating a birthday (I hadn't disclosed the purpose of this trip in our previously conversations), Jan was kind enough to gift us a ceramic bowl he had made (ceramics is his side hobby)! We took off from a dock in Richmond and brought the catamaran around Angel Island towards the Golden Gate Bridge, where we stopped and set up the sails until it was time to go back. Throughout the entire trip, Jan gave us our privacy--occasionally pointing out interesting sights on the water or along the coast. We spent half our time eating around the table, which has a roof and is opened to the outside, and half our time on the trampolines in the front of the boat. Although a bit chilly, since we went in the winter, being outside and sailing on water felt peaceful and serene! As someone that is gets carsick easily, I was apprehensive about seasickness, but the entire ride felt very smooth. Jan even pointed out the big waves beforehand so I felt prepared for any rocky motion. Moreover, none of the food/drinks we brought ever got close to spilling or sliding over the table since catamarans are so steady. Overall we all had an amazing time, and I would highly recommend sailing with Jan!
