I kind of scoffed at the idea, but went along since I didn't have to pay (I was told that it was not exactly cheap). I am sooooooo happy that I decided to go.... The boat was awesome - absolutely pristine - this is no run of the mill vessel. Expecting the worst, I was completely blown away. This boat is truly cared for and is a fully restored beauty!!! The bay was beautiful that day, clear skies and enough wind that we were booking along, but always felt totally comfortable (I am no seaman).. Captain Marco is a character. Totally professional and totally amiable. Not a bit of stuffiness in this guy!!! Having just 6 of us on the boat made it feel like we were out on a friends boat, not a charter. That really made the experience much more personal and more fun. We had a total blast - definitely something I will not forget easily. I am so happy that we decided to do it, and did not cheap out and go with cheaper alternative. In this instance, you get what you pay for and it is AWESOME!!!! I highly recommend!~!!!!

It left from Sausalito and made a full circle throughout the bay with a closeup of all your favorite landmarks: Treasure Island, Alcatraz, Golden Gate Bridge, etc. Captain Mark was extremely friendly. He's very hands off and lets you do whatever but he chats when you want to chat. AND he also lets people steer the boat! He told us that he recently traded in his larger boat for Evening Star which just went through a 11 year renovation. It's probably one of the nicest boats in this port with wood furnishings and a lovely interior. It's also why you might be paying a little more ($250/hour for up to 6 people). With that price, I think it was worth it because he has a boat in top notch condition, he is a fine sailor, and overall you just get a great experience. Be sure to bring tons of sunblock, drinks, and snacks which you can store below the deck. Some of the larger boats/ships that pass by can cause big waves to rock the sailboat more intensely but it's short lived and you shouldn't get too seasick. I don't see a need for motion sickness medicine unless you already see that the water is nuts before you even get out there. The boat is located right at the edge of the D dock in Sausalito Yacht Harbor. If you park right in front of the dock, it's only $1/hour whereas if you go further down to Spinnacker Drive, it gets up to $3/hour. The location is convenient because before or after your boat ride, you can hang out in the downtown area where all the shops and restaurants are. I even found some select shops with Sanrio items... now THAT was a lovely surprise.

I didn't want to write this review because I like to support small businesses but I also feel…read moreobligated to warn others for safety reasons. Pam has a complete disregard for safety. First off she packed the boat with too many people so Pam could barely see when she was navigating the waters. Also, she timed the last charter too late, and sailed until the sky turned completely dark for at least an hour. Between the lack of vision and dark sky Pam got too close to a big barge that sent a huge wave to us. When the big wave hit the boat, almost everyone at the front of the boat (about 12 people) were completely soaked from head to toe. The worst part was 2 people, including my wife, fell over due to the momentum & movements of the boat. One lady fell forward, my wife fell backwards. (Both of them were actually holding on to the "safety" railing, and my wife was even seated, so no one could say they were being unsafe). If it wasn't because I and another passenger grabbed my wife, she would have gone overboard. We endured at least another 30 minutes to get back to the dock, soaking wet. The skipper was trying to be helpful and assured us that they have training in how to rescue people if thrown overboard. He also tried to mop up the water from the deck with paper towels but it really wasn't enough and the deck remained wet & slippery. At the end of the trip, Pam first made the passengers in front "lean backwards" so she could see, but ultimately had to force at least 6 people to squeeze very tightly to the side & back of the boat in order for her to dock the sailboat. This was again, another dangerous thing because the deck was still very wet from the waves earlier, the passengers had nothing to hold on to, and it was very dark. When I wrote Pam my feedback (see email), she decided to ignore it so I feel obligated to let others know here so you all don't make the same mistake that I did.

Their rowing shells are extremely well taken care off, nothing like the kayak places with dead kayaks they rent for a premium or banged up surfskis. Everything worked, everything was spick and span. The facility is great, it is on the water, they offer parking, getting in and out of the water is easy. The instructor Ellen was amazing, probably the best instructor I have had for water sports and I have done my share of those. After 3 days I was paddling nicely around the bay. Their pricing is extremely fair. Totally worth your time if you want to learn how to scull.

Also I just got a link today from an Ken Perez, the former president of SEA , he made some pretty serious remarks about the organization. -- I still love the group and while no group is perfect there is a love there of sea and sailing at SEA. Though Gary SUCKSSSSS big time as an instructor. I would rather pay $568 to OCSC than be taught another class by Gary H. I had the best Keel Boat lesson today and it is accredited by the America Sailing Association Very important item when your trying to get charter a boat or sailing farther out, than to Sausalito or Almeda. Our instructor was Andy, a very witty and charming English Chap, who is an excellent instructor. I dare say my crew mates had a good time too and we really worked like team. I had an incredibly experience and I also feel that I learned a great deal today. I felt comfortable behind the tiler.

We just took lessons from SEA over the last two weekends and were SO impressed with the quality of…read morethe instruction, the reliability of the equipment and the value for the money. It's a huge time investment to commit two back-to-back weekends, 8:30-4:30. Phew. We were exhausted. But we learned so much, and from incredibly nice and knowledgeable people. I spent a *while* researching the other classes available in the Bay Area and figured out from asking other people that it's important to consider the size of the craft you'll sail while learning: if you hope to sail larger boats (20' and up) then learning on smaller keel boats like SEA's 16.5 Catalinas is ideal. You get really good on small, more sensitive boats and that makes you better on the bigger boats. In contrast, if you learn sailing on a 28' boat with on-board motor, you won't have as strong a sense of wind, wave, the feel of the tiller or the trim of the sail. And, if you learn in dinghies (dagger- or centerboards), you'll end up in the cold water of the Bay! Beyond the basics that I had hoped for in the course - teaching the syllabus required to learn all the basics of keelboat sailing - we were treated to great stories from the vast and varied experience of our instructors. They were warm, gregarious volunteers who shared their racing, cruising, crewing tales to round out our learning. Many of them had learned how to sail from SEA, too, and then were so turned on by what they'd learned that they kept coming back to classes and open sails. I hope to make it to membership events like open sails and races, and to take future classes to hone my skills, but I'm also excited that I learned enough to go sail the 22' boat we just bought!

Our club went out yesterday Monday for salmon. Recreational salmon fishing opened the first time…read morein three years. A total of ten were caught. The captain and crew of two were on it. Anytime a salmon was hooked the crew was diligent in the attempt to keep it on the line and to bring it in. 80% success rate. It was a full day. The Outer Limits left at 5am returning at 4pm. Docked at Sausalito boat harbor. We drove over from the City. Most parking spots were already occupied when we arrived at 4:30am. Of course my salmon got away. But I took home a blue rock cod.

We had a wonderful sail with Captain Memo!…read more He was very communicative leading up to the day - he asked about the relative ages and abilities of our party and made sure we were prepared with what to bring and where to go. During the sail, Memo provided extra information about the surrounding cities, local history, his boat, and about the Bay waters themselves. The sail was not strenuous at all and is a great fit for a broad age range and aptitudes. Memo also provided snacks and drinks and the boat has a bathroom. We sailed near Alcatraz and Belvedere and had great views of the Golden Gate Bridge. He can tailor the route to your interests. We would 100% recommend a sailing experience with Memo!
