Pretty busy spot when we went in. Prices are on par with most Indian restaurants in the area, so nothing surprising there. Service was a bit slow at the start we had to ask twice for our drinks, which took longer than expected. Food was just okay overall. The flavors felt a bit watered down compared to what I'd hope for. My boyfriend ordered the lamb kebab and it was extremely tough, even with a sharper knife it was hard to get through. Overall, it's fine for a quick lunch if you're nearby, but not a place I'd go out of my way to visit. The seats were also at one point the booth behind us every time they moved I could feel them squishing me like I was on a very crammed airplane. Has potential. The staff here is so nice and the service was lovely. I'd go back again, but I've had better Indian food elsewhere. The shrimp korma was lacking in flavor. The shrimp tasted fresh and the sauce did too, it just didn't have as much depth as I'm used to. The onion naan was delicious, but they only gave us one bowl of rice for two people. Terrible service, the wrong order, and disappointing food. We ordered delivery. Our total order was about $120 for four entrees and some naan bread, including the cost of delivery, but we'd heard good things and were willing to pay the high price. They used an app service for their delivery. We didn't choose that, but it's how they deliver food, so we went with it. The driver brought us the wrong order. It wasn't even close. Not only was all the food wrong, but was food for one or two people instead of the dinner for four that we ordered. The driver couldn't speak any English, so we couldn't fix the issue with him. When we called the restaurant, they refused to do anything to help. Passage blamed the entire situation on the driver (who we couldn't talk to) and the app (which they chose), and said that there just weren't any other drivers available. If we wanted our expensive meal, we could come down in person to pick it up. By the time we got there, our food was cold. They promised to keep it warm, but instead left it sitting on a counter. The would not remake it, would not refund our money, and in general would not do anything to make this situation right. We ended up with a cold, disappointing meal, served by a place that selected a bad delivery service and took no responsibility for their service or choices. I met some friends for dinner here last Friday. One of whom had never tried Indian food, *gasp*! The group let me take the reins and order for everyone. I wish I had gotten photos, but we were too busy digging in. The large bread basket is worth the cost! Although, I wish they gave a bit more variety than just naan. We had goat curry, mixed biryani, some shrimp curry, and tikka masala. All but one dish gets 5/5, as they were delicious and the meat tender. The biryani was the only dish that did not get a full five stars. The meat was dry and felt day old thrown in. Service was impeccable, and the decor could use a refresh, but overall, it was fine. My boyfriend and I ordered here around Halloween 2023 (around the time I notice another Yelper had a cockroach in her water). I love Indian food but I noticed I had some wild allergic reactions to the food here - my heart was pounding quickly, I felt flush in the face, got a mild headache, had pins and needles in my hands, got a critical notification from my blood glucose monitor... it was intense. I wanted to figure out what ingredients they put in the food so I could try to track down what gave me such a reaction, called back, and the staff REFUSED TO TELL US. They kept saying that we needed to talk to "Belinda", but when we called and tried to talk to Belinda, they changed the story and said we had to come into the restaurant to be able to talk to anybody. I am from out of town so can't come in, but really wanted to identify what ingredients made me so sick. It was a scary reaction. The person who answered the phone kept saying his name was "John Cena" and hanging up on us, over several calls. Additionally, my boyfriend and I both ordered curry via UberEats but his was green and mine was yellow, so I definitely don't think he got what he was supposed to get. I've ordered takeout from here a handful of times and tried various dishes and appetizers [most of which were for the first time] to varying degrees of enjoyment. The chicken tikka masala with a side of basmati rice, onion naan, and papadam is my favorite combination. The only entrées that I didn't like that I've tried were the chicken korma and chicken makhni [I wasn't a fan of it being sweet, but my Mom loved it], but I won't knock the establishment for that; I'm just assuming I don't like those dishes. The lamb biriyani was okay, but the rice needed the raita; however, the meat was delicious and tender. I recently tried the lamb rogan josh, and that was good; I probably would've liked it more if it was more piquant because the heat was very mild. That being said, I assume I could request more heat for it. The portions are good, enough so that I tend to have leftovers. Packaging is suitable for takeout. My food always arrives hot. One last thing: I tend to order from Uber Eats, but they don't have the Lamb Rogan Josh listed on the UE menu. So, I called the restaurant and requested they add it because they only have the Beef Rogan Josh listed on UE. Then, in the meantime, I asked if it was okay if I ordered the Beef Rogan Josh from UE but specified in the notes that I wanted lamb and not beef, and he said that was fine. Sure enough, I placed my order with the note, and it was respected. I've never eaten at the establishment, but that gave me a good impression of the customer service. read more

Am I still a bit shocked that one of the best Indian restaurants we've had in a while is in Salem, the land of American and Italian cuisine? Yes. Am I glad we had the opportunity to try it? We tried their Chicken Makhni, which is a red curry with chicken breast chunks, cashew, and raisins that added slight sweet umami to the dish. Their naan was some of the best I've had. The texture was perfect; Light crunch on the outside, super-soft on the inside, super garlicky too. The one thing I will note is that their highest level of spice isn't too spicey. I have ordered here a couple of times when I'm traveling to Boston as an Uber eats meal. To cut to the chase, it's okay. For takeout, the packaging is very good. The portions are fair. I had a meat samosa, which was actually the best part of the meal. It is was quite large, nice flaky crust, and good tasting meat filling. For the main, I had a chicken tikka masala with garlic naan. Both of these looked the part, but were lacking in flavor. The garlic naan, despite having chunks of garlic on it, somehow didn't have flavor. With naan, you usually want that contrast with a slight char and crisp to the exterior, combined with a fluffier tear apart crumb. This naan was quite stiff, with no crisp to it. So the naan flavor and texture for me were off. The chicken tikka masala was also muted in flavor. There was no heat whatsoever to it. The other flavors you usually expect with tomato base were there, but just not strong. The chicken chunks were not very tender, but nonetheless it was okay. I finished off with gulab jamun, and this was also just okay. Overall, it's not bad, it just doesn't excel in areas that I expect from Indian cuisine, which is strong, aromatic flavors. read more

We ordered food from here at 6:40 only to have it show up at 8:20. We called at 7:40 asking where the food was and they assured us it was 10-15 minutes away. Mind you our house is an 8 minute drive from the resturant. 20 minutes later we get a call from the driver saying the food was on its way. Another 20 minutes and he finally arrived. The food was cool by the time it arrived in a ripped bag. I called up the resturant asking them to void the bill, as the food arrived late and in poor condition. They told me they would make it up to us next time, not giving any sort of promise as to what that "Thing" would be. I refused as thier word hadn't been proven to be worth much this evening. The resturant also started bashing thier delivery driver, who has clearly been pulled into this mess late, and began blaming him for the whole thing, and for some reason making it seem like the driver, not the business itself, should try to make amends for poor showing. Absolutely shameful showing from this resturant. If they mess up, don't expect anything other than hostility from them. read more

We love the food from here and have been customers for years. It's a little out of the way to get there but we had a gift card so took the ride to pick up some take out. We asked both over the phone when placing the order, as well as asked for a confirm when we picked up, that the requested extra tamarind sauce for the appetizer was included. We were told yet both times only to find no extra at all when we got home. We picked up take out at 3 in the afternoon which is an off time, and it was dead, so I can't really justify why this would have been the case having worked in the restaurant industry myself. While we do think the food is great, this was disappointing and we have had better experiences at closer Indian restaurants in our area who have had no problem with this request in the past. So this is the only Indian restaurant in the whole locality and to my surprise they are an 18 years old restaurant. What we got to know is they have a strong customer base who are all local people and they avoid the Halloween crowd. Thus the restaurant was empty when we went. I was surprised to see an Indian restaurant in a locality that doesn't have much Indian people to eat the cuisine. So in all probability the dishes are americanized to ease the palette for non-spicy eaters. We were immediately seated and ordered our food. The restaurant was playing songs from 2000 Bollywood. We had ordered chicken makhni, meat samosas, lamb rogan josh, vegetable samosas and two cocktails. The flatbreads (naans) are quite expensive as compared to other dishes. The food came very quickly. They taste very soupy. We ordered the hotter version of the food items and they pumped up heat by adding chili paste. Overall our service was pretty fast and the price is decent, that earned them the extra star. read more

Visited Salem with my partner and we decided to eat here because it didn't have a long line like other restaurants in the area during Haunted Happenings festival. I already took a few sips of my water before I saw a tiny cockroach floating in my cup. Gross. I asked if I could have another water but they just took the cup away and never gave me another water. The food was alright but overpriced for the portion size and I'm used to NYC prices. Also I was just too scared of seeing another cockroach in my curry and couldn't properly enjoy my food. If they apologized and compensated properly for the cockroach in water I would not be inclined to leave such a bad review . Well, I ordered several dishes, one was chicken tikki masala, vegetarian palak paneer and another vegetarian spicy dish, vegetable samosas, vegetable pakora and two types of Naan, kashmire and garlic, a variety of sauces, chutneys and mango lassie! While the choices were tasty, the naan was the highlight for me! The presentations, with the exception of the mango lassie, because of the beautiful color, were generic and not very exciting! Everything we got was very good! To me, the chicken saag (chicken with spinach in a creamy sauce) was the real standout. A ground lamb dish was very tasty. (Neither of those was very spicy, which was our intentional choice.) The samosas and pakoras in the mixed appetizer platter were spicier, and generally yummy. So glad we could get papadums -- haven't had them in too long, and they were perfect. The only mistake: since this was for delivery, we should not have bothered getting the puffy Poori bread, because of course it collapsed in transit. Ordered the 'Goa Shrimp curry', which by all accounts was just regular shrimp curry and not the traditional Goan shrimp curry. There were maybe 6-8 tiny shrimp in the sauce and a side of rice, and the dish was $17. Oh how sad it is. We haven't eaten here or done their takeout for about 6 months. For years, this restaurant has been a jewel in Salem. We have eaten here dozens and dozens of times. Tonight's meal was ok. Nothing more. I had the chicken tikka saag and my husband ordered lamb tikka masala. My chicken, which is normally one of my favorites, was odd. There wasn't really a great deal of spinach at all and one certainly couldn't taste any. It's supposed to be green and it is brown. My husband said that his lamb was good. However, what did they do to the naan? It's seriously dry, tasteless and beyond disappointing! I used to live in SE Asia and I've never in my life eaten naan like this before. As you can see from the pic below, it appears to be fried and not baked in a tandoori oven. Plus, no one came to check on our dinner or I would have asked them what they did to the naan. Even the lassi lacked flavor! Did they leave out the rose water? It's a mystery. One of the servers came to clear our table. He spoke perfectly well to us in English. I began to ask him about the naan and, suddenly he couldn't speak English. They brought lukewarm dry towels to "wash" at the end of the meal. They had an unpleasant odor. Chicken biryani: The chicken was dry and tough to chew, the rice was undercooked. They had very fresh vegetables throughout which was nice but overall couldn't finish it. They had a yogurt sauce on the side that was refreshing and the red spicy slaw was the best tasting item.
