I don't like to complain, but I recently made a to go order and was disappointed with the butter chicken. It was thin and not as flavorful as usual. I have both dined in and ordered pick up and have always been very happy with the food, as I always order the butter chicken. However this last time was not a good example of the quality of the food, as I have ordered there a multiple of times. I feel I would be doing a disservice if I didn't let you know. read more

It's unfortunate because the food was genuinely great and the service was excellent. Our server did everything right. But on one of the hottest days of the year, the restaurant was unbearably hot inside. It wasn't just warm, it was miserable. We spent the entire meal sweating and couldn't wait to leave. Great food and great staff can't make up for an environment that uncomfortable. Until they fix the temperature, I can't recommend dining here. read more

My fiancé and I went here for dinner as I was craving Indian cuisine. We started with some garlic naan and coffee marinated lamb chops (my favorite part of the meal) which were delicious. For drinks we got a mango lassi and a marsala chai tea to start. For entrees I had the goat royal biryani which had a mild spice that slowly intensifies, so I was satisfied since I enjoy spicy food. I also got a side of the cheesy jalapeño naan which was tasty. My fiancé had the lamb gyro with fries (it's not a traditional Indian dish, I'm aware so it was served with chopped lamb chunks instead of the Greek style). I have to say that the portions of the entrees were a descent size. This place has a bar in the middle and can accommodate groups, I would say that the majority of the customers I saw could be categorized as 'hipster'. They also have a bakery on the side with desserts on display for takeaway. For full disclosure, I would have to say that the one portion of the night that really made me have to reduce this rating is that when the server gave us spoons for our dessert (gulab jamun) the cutlery was still dirty. He looked at it, acknowledged they weren't clean and still handed them to us anyway. However, I will acknowledge that they didn't charge us for an item they mistakenly sent us to our table. read more

When taking our order, the waiter asked what spice level we each wanted for our dish which I appreciated. I got the butter chicken. Inside the restaurant was really cute too. This restaurant is in the Seaport Resort and Marina and it seems to be the only Indian restaurant around! We were more than happy to have it so conveniently located in the hotel at which we were staying because the food was very good and authentic. My husband is Indian, but I have a super sensitive stomach to tomato and spices. So we usually order some things, see if I can eat them and have several plan B's. I don't think the staff quite understood our strategy - but they were very kind. We started with the Samosa chaat, which I could not eat - but my husband was more than happy to polish off by himself. He loved it. Smiled so big. We also got a Dal Makhani with naan. Which was a good solid dal makhani, with lots of ghee on top, but had a cumulative spice that made me a bit nervous. So I went safe, let my husband finish the dal and I ordered the Chef's Special Salad... and it was the most Indian influenced green salad that has ever existed! The salad had cooked paneer, potato and carrot cubes. It took me a minute to realize the carrot had to be cooked because it was softer than a raw carrot would be. Not at all what I was expecting - but a pretty solid salad. This restaurant has a pretty spectacular cocktail list with a lot of interesting drinks. I got the Long Island, which isn't my usual order, but it had crushed raspberries and limca (!). The raspberries were the star. My hindi is pretty bad but the fact that they had a mocktail called "Gulabi "No" Shurabi" gave me a chuckle. the ingredients sounded good too (it is a cocktail not a non-alcoholic rosé). All the cocktails and mocktails sounded awesome. We didn't see much of the restaurant because we were seated in the front, but the accent wall was fun and I could see the TV with the bollywood videos that matched the music being piped. We had a nice time. Wouldn't mind going again if we're in the area. read more

Stopped by twice, one for a take-out order and the other was dinning in. Service for both was great for both options. Food was excellent, had great flavors all around. My only issues was the amount of food. I travel extensively and often have a lot of take-out. I was given less food with a with my take-out order then when i dined in. However, i paid the same amount for both items. This seems to be common trend to give less for the takeout orders. read more

I have been to Saffron By the Sea twice. The entire wait staff is attentive, polite, and friendly. Very knowledgeable on the menu. They go out of their way to please the diner. The food is amazing. this restaurant is the best! I enjoyed the Vindaloo with chicken and my husband had the Korma with shrimp. My mouth is on fire!! He drank a Xanti and I had a Strawberry Coco Margarita. We finished our meal with a delicious Black Forest cake and piping hot cappuccino. Alfonso was an excellent server and all of the staff had smiles, were super friendly, and professional. Just order Grubhub from this place. I order Garlic Naan, taste so plain. I was surprised because usually Indian food has a lot of flavor, not this Naan it was plain. Chicken Tikka was blah, very plain no that flavor, even sauce was horrible. I don't like it. I wanted that Indian flavors and spice. This place was not worth it. Not recommend. Plus small portions and very expensive for no reason. Thank god it was small portions because everything went to the garbage. Saffron needs to work on those spices. read more

New Indian restaurant in Fairhaven. There is a good amount of seating inside. I came here for lunch on a weekend. I got the saffron special cocktail. The presentation was excellent, and the drink tasted good as well. For food, I got the Amritsari fish fry, manchow soup, and the lamb shank w/rogan Josh. The food came pretty quickly. The fish fry (4 pieces) was crispy and delicious. The manchow soup was just how I remembered it. The lamb shank was delicious; the meat fell off the bone. The sauce was not as thick as expected and would have been good with rice. But the quantity of rice given is pretty tiny. I also ordered the garlic naan, which was good but didn't go well with the dish. Overall, it was a good experience. The prices are a bit high for Fairhaven. The service was good. read more

Needed a little snack since we had a large late lunch. We went to Saffron by the sea for get some samosas. When we arrived it was closer to 8pm and they were still packed with happy customers which is always a good indicator for me. When did indeed enjoy the vegetable samosas with some cheese garlic naan. My son ordered the aloo gobi since he had not yet eaten. He ordered the medium and it was delicious. I have been craving Gulab Jamun and it didn't disappoint! Great service and amazing meal! Lunch at Saffron was fantastic! We were first to arrive, but by the time we finished, the dining room was nearly full (word has gotten out, I suppose). Although service was little slow, our server was attentive and pleasant and informative. I started with Vada Pav Sliders, and they were large and yummy (could have been my whole meal). For main course, I had Shrimp Tikka Masala, and that was EXCELLENT. G had Hot and Sour Soup... and it was spicy and tasty. For her meal, G ordered the Chef's Special Salad, and it was gargantuan and good. Try the Watermelon juice -- good! We will DEFINITELY be back for more. read more

Well, I placed an order at the restaurant. They unfortunately had some kind of technical difficulty that prevented my order from being communicated to the kitchen. Once the issue was discovered, they apologized for the delay in my order and they went out of their way to do an amazing job of service recovery. We did takeout. The flavor is very good. My biggest issue is the lack of chicken in my order. Also, the restaurant stuffs a ton of rice which is a cheap filler. I recommend the restaurant back off the rice and provide more chicken in their dishes. We've dined in and done takeout. I think the takeout you get short changed. Our server was excellent, though overworked. It was spicy how I loved but there was textures from burnt herbs or vegetables that made it taste off. The aromas from it was breathtaking. The rice was under cooked but the goat was made to perfection. Just wished there was more goat to ratio of rice. 80% of my dish was rice 10% Meat and 10% herbs. Overall would rate the dish a 7 due to presentation...aromas...quality of meat. Palak Paneer was done in a way I haven't seen...I'm use to seeing the actual spinach instead of it being blended but it did not take away from the taste. Perfect with the garlic naan. Overall rate this dish a 8 due to flavors and quality of ingredients. Butter chicken...chicken was cooked perfectly and the sauce was amazing. Went through two orders of Naan on the sauce alone. Had a sweet taste at the end that had me going back for more. Overall rating 8. Only gripe I had was the butter was just placed on top when served which wasn't appeasing. The waiter had absolutely no knowledge about the beer selection...however, in the end he made things right. My husband loves his beer. He ended up having a Rhode Island brew...whaler's rise. We had a wonderful night dining here on a Friday night. We didn't have a reservation but they seated my son and I immediately which was very kind. All of the staff were superb! The food was excellent, we had a street appetizer and our mains were chicken korma and lamb tikka masala. I was happy to see that there was an Indian restaurant nearby to try, so decided to give it a try. We were greeted and seated right away and it is nicely decorated and very clean. We were the first people there and it took 15mins for our waiter to arrive as we were getting up to leave. We placed our drink and appetizer order and my wife's wine glass had large chunks of food on it. We showed the waiter and he went to the bar and had it replaced instantly. Our appetizers arrived and they were very good and the sauces were great, but then our mains arrived and they were lukewarm and not that spicy. Also our naan bread was very thin and burnt. For the price of our meal I also wish that they would use real plates instead of plastic ones as it makes it feel cheap. Overall it wasn't a great experience nor was it unpleasant, it was just average. read more

Absolute gem, so glad they place showed up on my radar. I was incredibly surprised to see so many street food options on the menu, and even more surprised when they came out as authentic too! Order many dishes and share between your table. Want to try something new and different as an appetizer? Ask for the water shots and ask the waiter how to eat them. (Golgappa) The other appetizer, dahi puri, also packed full of flavor. The drinks we got were addicting, I wanted more. The mango blended thing I got was perfect, not too sweet, and super creamy. We'll certainly be going back. My only complaint was that in the chicken curry type dish that we ordered, the chicken was that of a large breast cut into large chunks.
