Passion Hair Salon - The Best part of the visit...lol...the 'Wash'....lol - Hair Salons Near Me - Dumfries, Virginia

Not a fan! I have been there three times (braids twice- wash and set once) and the prices changes without communication with me. The first time I waited almost 30 minutes for them to start my braids and was upcharged. Second time I was styled by the owner and she gave me a discount because of the medoicre service and upcharge I had prior. The last time I even confirmed the rate multiple times before and during braiding but when I got up the price was upwards of $20 more then what was agreed upon. The braids look descent at first but they began to loosen less than three weeks after service. I am natural so individual braids typically hold in my hair for at least 5-6 weeks before starting to begin to look shabby. I was a shampoo girl as a teenage but Passion Salon is ridiculous. They got teenage girls shampooing hair - wetting my back, shoulders, and chest all up and laced it with scarastic apologies ( my hair was not completely clean and had to be shampooed again by someone else). I kept trying the place out because the owner was apologitic and its close to my home- third times a charm. Stay away- find a girl around the neighborhood to do your braids. It will be cheaper. read more

Terrible experience. I booked an appointment before heading out of town to a wedding to treat myself. The appointment I made was for a quick weave. Immediately when I arrived the hair stylist asked why I didn't wash my own hair. Even though when I called to book she told me a wash and style was included in my service. Every quick weave I've had the stylist braids my hair down before applying the wig cap. She sprayed an insane amount of hair spray on my hair and attempted to put it in a ponytail under the cap. When I asked could she braid me down. Her response was, "oh yea I forgot." I asked could I get the hair cut in layers. She became instantly irritated and said she was doing too much work on my hair for $150. Which was weird for me because while booking she asked exactly what I wanted and how many bundles of hair I had, then quoted me $150. I told her I had no problem paying for the hair cut but I did ask could she offer me the 10% off discount for all first time clients that's listed on her website. She refused. After giving me layers she also refused to curl the ends of my hair ( which is the styling portion of the service.) Her response was I don't curl synthetic hair. The packaging clearly states the hair can be curled but she said continued to tell me no. What makes matters worse is I had to bring my own supplies. She said her glue was dried up and she didn't have any wig caps. She offered me zero discount for that as well. I left her salon with some much anxiety and frustration. All I wanted was to feel pretty and pamper myself before attending my friends wedding. This was the worst experience I've ever encountered. read more

I don't know what's the reasoning for scheduling appointments if it never starts on time. I had an appointment today at 2 for box braids. Now I understand that hair appointments along with doctor appointments never start on time, but for me to be sitting there for 30-35 minutes and no one can tell me where their braided is is very unacceptable. Definitely lost a customer. read more

Quite classy owner who knows how to treat customers right. She was able to take me right away due to a previous appointment cancelled. Met the 1st time and well respected all around. Service top notch! Products used to wash and condition hair, "fresh"! She also makes custom wigs and the hair removed will now become a new permanent wear on occassion. Was not expecting this! I went to this place on a recommendation. However, I knew leaving that I wouldn't be coming back. I went in to get my hair braided and did not get what I asked for. The woman doing braids left them too long when I told her from the beginning I didn't want braids hanging down my back. She replied "that's the way everyone is wearing them". So I ended up cutting them at home. The other woman that began helping her kept pulling my hair too tight after I told her it hurt. She was like "it will feel better when I move my hand". I could feel my hair pulling from my scalp. I had to get someone else to rebraid the top braids the same day. Not to mention the picture I showed her had spiral curls at the end. The braider just took some rods and randomly wrapped my hair around the end. These so called spirals are really just curls pointing all over the place. I've never been a place where I knew I wouldn't come back when leaving. read more

Decided to try this hair salon. My mom used to get her hair done here but stopped because she moved. I was pleased with my hair. I got a touchup and curl. Will be coming back in two weeks. read more

This was my third time at Passion salon the first two were perfect,but let me tell you about this visit,I have been working out wanted to get my hair braided cornrows in a bun,very simple had it done before, appointment was at noon,Braider had to be called in,then she takes me to the barber shop next door, I tell her how I want my hair and how small I want the braids,well any way see started on the back which was fine,she started on the front I didn't pay any attention because I figured she did the back fine so it should be ok,NOT! When she finished and started cleaning the hair up I looked in the mirror and oh my my horns came out! These braids were as big as my thumb and she put some funky design in it,did I mention I'm 48 years old I don't want no damn design, I made her take it out! Why she made the design smaller, at this point I was thinking she must be retarded,so I made her take them out again! I was extremely aggravated by now,went to pay her and she says $80+16 for hair, that's not what she quoted and I told her you said $80 including the hair,she had the nerves to say I used a different kind of hair I told her that's your bad, I'm not paying it! I give her my credit card she says cash only,I lost it I went to Esther and I had fumes coming out my nose by now,I told her my complaint went to pay her and she tried to charge me $85! I paid $80 just on principle, but I won't be back getting braids! Esther you need to get a better Braider this one sucked big time! read more

Initially a great place to have your locks taken care of, but lately the owner is always late opening up her shop and customers are waiting outside at times she is often 20-45 minutes late opening the doors which states open at 10:00 am. If customers are there for a 10:00 appt and she is not there until 10:30 -10:45 this is poor customer service. I think it is time to find a new stylist. read more

The stylists that this establishment are very unprofessional and have no customer service skills whatsoever. I made a 10am appointment for my daughter to get her hair braided with a stylist (I think her name was Tyisha) a week prior to coming in. I came in about 5 mins early and she was not there. Another stylist called her and she stated she was waiting for her ride to come to work, and from the sounds of the conversation she totally forgot about our appointment. I waited for 25 minutes and she still hadn't shown up. One of the younger stylist offered to at least wash her hair to get the process started the owner told her not to and she told me to detangle my daughters hair more and handed me a brush filled with someone else hair ( which is very unsanitary). And mind you there was only two other people getting there hair done in the shop so it wasn't busy. This was a terrible first impression and unless you bad service as well and would advice you to save your money and go elsewhere. read more

I have been to Passion salon several times over the past 6 months and it was a good enough experiece for me. However, I called Ms. Esther a month before school started because I wanted to get my 3 daughters hair done for school, she scheduled me for a Sunday appoinment for 1pm. I then called a gain on the Firday before my appoinment to confirm. She informed me that 1pm was not good and to come at 11am instead. When i got there the shop was full. I came to the realization that I was going to be there a while. What I will not get over where the two rookie shampoo girls she had blow drying my daughters' hair. All three gils were crying and miserable, and thier hair was not properly straighted. I was under the impression that Esther was going to style my daughters hair, I was wrong her daughter took my youngest, and one of the shampoo girls began braiding my other daughters hair, while one waited for Esther to finish a full weave she apparently scheduled for the same time. The braides looked so bad that one of the women who was working on someone elses singles came over and took it out and redid it. My youngest daughter (5) got flat twist up into a bun. She cryed the whole time and even the rest of the day about her hair hurting. Ms. Esther's daughter had blowdried, flat ironed, and hot combed it. Needless to say her hair had been overprocess. But the worst part was that she put the rubber bands in so tight that my babys scalp was wrinkled and red. I have pics that I plan to take to Ms. Esther. Then she overcharged me for the service, almost two times what she normally charges me to do thier hair. I sat there and watch her daughter set the price and try to rationalize it. I really did like the services Ms. Esther provided but I will not be going back. I can deal with a mistake or two on my head, but not my kids. read more

I will never come here again, don't and I repeat DON'T ever get weave done by the owner. First of all, the base of my hair was braided straight back and sewed into a clump! Then, 4 days later I already had tracks slipping and had to find the time to go back and get them fixed (for free). Now, I am only at week 3 and I have 3 more tracks slipping..I mean a full INCH of 3 different tracks plus a few edges coming out. 3 freaking weeks and I already need to take it out because it wont stay sewed in, and the back is lifting because of the clump of hair I have sewed down. I am extremely disappointed and pissed that i threw away $145 for a weave that only stayed nice for 4 days!! read more

I had 3 appointments with Esther before I arrived at the conclusion that she is rude and unprofessional. During my first appointment I was at her salon for 3.5 hrs. for a flat-twist style. Esther worked on clients (there were several of us waiting patiently), answered the phone, and received an order for supplies all while her lazy daughters watched TV and sent text messages. During my second appointment Esther was running so far behind I had to settle for a "quick" style. I left the salon looking worse than I did when I walked in, she offered me a gift certificate for my next appointment. During my third and final appointment Esther arrived 20 mins. late and offered no apology but stated that she was in the salon late the night before. She started a flat-twist style on me and when I asked her to do a style with bangs she huffed, rolled her eyes, and slammed the comb on the booth. When I scheduled the appointment I informed Esther that I wanted a flat-twist style however, while she was working on my hair she complained twice about how doing the flat-twists aggravated her carpal tunnel. I won't even discuss how filthy the salon was at 8:20 in the morning. I will never return to Passions Hair Salon again nor will I recommend anyone. I believe Esther is only nice to her long time regular customers. read more
