Been here twice so far and I must say, it's my new favorite pasta spot on Long Island. I love how you can make your own plate and mix n match. The food: I've only tried the bolognese with two different pastas, both fireee. I really enjoy the addition of carrots in the bolognese. The carbonara was delicious along with the lasagna. The veal and the celery in the lasagna make it unique. I highly recommend! The service is really friendly, they remember your faces and are quick! The ambiance is chill, never too packed and loud. Honestly really had higher expectations and was very disappointed. I wanted to like the place because the concept reminded me of the pasta place in Brooklyn. We came in on a Sunday afternoon and we were one the first customers. It was our first time and we were unsure how to order/where to sit. Customer service was fine - they explained we order at the counter first before sitting but were nice to let us sit and look over the menu prior to ordering. We ordered the fusilli with pesto, rigatoni with funghi e tartufu, polpette (meatballs) and their special spaghettoni with spicy cherry tomatoes sauce and stracciatella $22. The cheese was great. The meat was not memorable and the pastas ... ALL three were extremely salty. We thought it was just the first bite and it would mellow out but it was the whole dish and thus the disappointment. The server brought us bread to dip into the sauce which was nice. Although I liked the texture of the rigatoni and the sauce was tasty but overall a little salty. You order at the counter and they bring it to your table, unless you want your order to go. It's a good portion of pasta, and the perfect amount of sauce. They also have salads and desserts. Let's start with the outstanding customer service. We were met by Amani. Once I shared that we were first time patrons, he shifted into gear. He hit all three C's; clear, concise and courteous. He was personable yet not over the top. The restaurant had a clean, modern and yet classic look to it. Very welcoming. I had heard so much about this place living in the area. I really am the worst Mineola person btw lol. I need to eat in my hometown more often. I had high expectations given that this is fresh made pasta, but I just thought it was OK. In the picture, it looks like Chef Boyardee lol. Found this place on Facebook and knew that my husband would LOVE it! When we arrived, we parked on the street, around the corner and paid a quarter for 30 minutes. In the window to Pastaru, there was a man, portioning freshly made pasta. The space is clean, bright and inviting with 2 rooftop windows, letting in the natural light. The display had different pasta shapes and each one had suggestions for the various sauces they make. We were greeted by the owner, who was gracious and came over to chat with us. The girl behind the counter was very sweet. She explained to us the menu and took our order. I decided on fusilli with vodka sauce. Hubby ordered linguini pomodoro. We sat and waited no more than 5 minutes and our food arrived. A baby bread basket was served with grated cheese on the side. She also offered fresh pepper and red pepper flakes. DELICIOUS!! The pasta's texture was ridiculously awesome. Super speedy and friendly service, perfect for a lunchtime pit stop. I'd kill for a teensy bit more seasoning in that sauce, though. Everything is made fresh using homemade pasta made with imported 00 semolina flour from Italy--so if you're gluten-sensitive, this might be worth a try! My kids love pasta, which is why I wanted to take them to see what the hype is all about and for them to have the option to choose their own pasta shapes and sauces. We chose the Paccheri pasta (out of spaghetti, gnocchi, fettuccine, fusilli, and penne) since that was the most distinctive one and we've never had that before. The sauces we chose were bolognese and genovese. The employees there were very informative and friendly. The food came to our table pretty quick. My son took a bite immediately while standing and said "MmmMMMmmm!!" From there, I knew it'd be good and I went in for my bite. The pasta texture was perfectly al dente. Perfection. Perfect bite, perfect resistance, perfect tenderness. The sauce and meat were a little salty, but I like salty foods and it paired with the plain pasta very well. We all loved it and finished it quickly. The bolognese was saucy and tender. The veal meat and onions from the genovese sauce was delicious and satisfying as well. We will definitely come back. Tried 2 types of pasta dishes recently for take out. First a basic spaghetti and meatballs. Issues: the pasta was very thick (not what I expected to be called spaghetti). It was chewy and undercooked (I know what al dente is and this was less than that). I also know traditional Italian isn't very saucy but there was barely any sauce. As a result, the take out pasta stuck together like a nest. The meatball side was good but small for the cost. My wife had a truffle and mushroom pasta that was somewhat better although again the pasta felt a bit too thick and chewy. I was excited about this place but given these disappointments I likely will not return. read more

We were greeted by a very kind lady, she explained us the whole process of ordering, since this was our first visit. Definitely took sometime deciding what to eat. We got a Fromaggio stuffed Ravioli in pesto sauce. Their pasta is definitely fresh, it tasted fresh and was cooked to perfection. Pesto sauce was nice and flavorful. Soup of the day was good and served hot. Overall we had a good experience. It's a nice cozy small place and would definitely recommend if you want to have good pasta. Pastaru Pastificio is a rare gem. I was blown away by the quality of the dishes they made, at the price point they make them at this unsuspecting casual eatery. We stepped in and marveled at the simple menu: pick a fresh pasta, pick a sauce, pick a topping (if you wish). For the uninitiated, you can even see a plate of the raw pastas in the window that's below the menu on the wall. And then we paid, we sat down at an empty table and got some glasses of water, fully expecting a lowkey self service type of experience. But as our pasta dishes were prepared, in came the staff, offering cheese (some good cheese, btw), and bread. When our entrees arrived, we were offered freshly cracked pepper, pepper flakes, and they checked on us constantly. I haven't been this attended to at some full service restaurants. They're so friendly here! And the food... the pastas are perfectly made, perfectly cooked and perfectly sauced. These are not stuff-you-till-you-roll-outta-there portions, no. These are quality portions of carefully crafted pasta dishes. We are a family of 4 so we got to try 4 different pastas and sauces. I can tell you that the genovese, carbonara, bolognese and funghi sauces were outstanding. These entrees at the lunch price of $15 (pasta+sauce) are an absolute steal. We took some of it home because we had to try the desserts. The tiramisu and the gelatos were the perfect end to a perfect meal. We left satisfied and amazed and immediately wondering when we can plan another trip back to have some more. It is clear to me how much they care about the food they make for their customers here. The flavor was nothing special, and the portion sizes were shockingly small for the price. We also tried the artichokes, which were completely over-salted and drowning in oil - almost inedible. It's hard to ignore the fact that this restaurant seems more focused on social media appearances than actual quality. The vibe screams "free meal for influencers," and you can tell that's where their priorities lie. Bottom line: The food is mediocre at best, overpriced, and simply not worth it. Not sure what the hype is all about, this place was extremely disappointing, the pasta portions are very small and not worth $19. We ordered the amatriciana and bolognese and the bolognese was dry (no sauce to be found) and the meat was very finely ground so the consistency was not good at all, it was mushy. The amatriciana is absolutely nothing like you get in Italy, I've been to many regions in Italy and this is my go to dish and it was nothing like I've ever had, and not in a good way. The only reason this review is getting 2 stars and not 1 star was because the arancini (rice ball) was good, not the best but it was good. My husband and I happened to be on Mineola Blvd and stumbled upon Pastaru. We love pasta and decided to give them a try. Well we are so HAPPY we did. Walking inside Pastaru you're instantly greeted with the aroma of garlic and oil and a case of various homemade pasta. I chose Paccheri with Amatriciana cooked well done (I like my pasta cooked soft). The dish looked amazing and came out promptly. My first bite was like being back in Italy! It was absolutely delicious!!!! My husband ordered Spaghetti with Carbonara and he made sure to confirm it's not made with cream and the owner confirmed it wasn't. Why not make it with cream because in Italy and true Carbonara doesn't have cream it's just creamy from the egg yolk. When his dish came out it smelled so amazing and tasted just like it does in Rome. We then had a tiramisu that once again was made to perfection. I spoke with both owners and told them how much we enjoyed their pasta and how it is truly authentic. Pastaru will be out go to pasta restaurant! Oh also! For the parents out there they even have a changing table in the restroom... once you become a parent you realize how many restaurants don't have a changing table and how much of an inconvenience it is.
