The layers of pastry on the outside were super thick - the most amount of layers I've seen on the double-digit ones that I've eaten. The pastry layers cascade down into the center, creating ripples of individual crunches along the way that is so immensely satisfying to consume. But what's truly spectacular is the inside. Upon the first bite, the custardy center oozes out like molten lava. You better make sure you have a plate under this, because the bright yellow goo is as addicting to taste as it is dangerous to your hands or clothing. The flavor is simply perfect - just the right amount of sweetness, citrus, and egginess. It's honestly unbelievable how good and irresistible this is. Comparing it to Pasteis de Belem, I think I would actually put this slightly over. The extra layers and the more liquidy center just do it for me. The donuts were the thickest I've ever seen, and the ice cream options were amazing. My mission was to get donuts since we were leaving early the next morning for Porto. With over a dozen different styles to choose from, I ended up with two Madagascar Vanilla glazed, one raspberry (red berry) with cream glaze and blueberry filling, and one Chocolate glaze with Chocolate Ganesh filling. These donuts are to die for! The yeast-raised donuts are about 2 to 3 inches tall, and the fillings and glazes are bursting with flavor. They're not too sweet, and you can immediately tell what flavors they have. They were the best donuts I've ever had, hands down. I frequent the one in the ROD so it was not a shock when I dragged my friends in. It's the exact playbook as the one in Houston. You get in line, place your order and then choose your flavours. I went with my good ole faithful waffle with two scoops (hazelnut chocolate and salted caramel) of gelato and topped it off with hazelnut drizzle. The total was about $6.40 which is way cheaper than it is in the states. It was just as delicious and very much worth it. It's easy to find in you're in the Baixa area of Lisboa. Just follow the path.
