We needed a Tres Leches cake for someone's BDAY. There are prominent bakeries in Downey that we could have ordered from, but I wanted to avoid a mass of people. What a fantastic idea. This bakery had great reviews, and the location was perfect as we exited the 105 freeway onto Paramount Blvd. The shop is small & quaint. As I walked in, I was the only patron. I had ordered a cake for 20 by phone and they didn't charge me ahead of time. The cake was ready at my desired time of 3 PM, and so were the dozen churros we requested. This bakery has existed here for 26 years, and the service was excellent. Paying for my goods and getting back in the car was relatively painless. But let's talk about the taste of the cake and the churros. I have had this type of cake maybe 5-6 times in my life. I have to say this was the best one I can remember. There was some moisture in the cake, but it was not excessive. The slices were not thick, and the slices came out with ease and structure. The cake was not "over the top" sweet either. To be honest, I wanted another HUGE piece, but I refrained. The churros were FRESH & warm, and we enjoyed some before the other guests arrived. The tres leches cake is amazing. Never have I ever tasted a tres leches cake that was evenly moist and not soggy at the bottom. I also like that it is not overly sweet, including the frosting. My opinion might be subjective but I believe this is one of the best tres leches cakes I've ever had, if you're on the fence, do it. The owner was really sweet, and she told me she's trying to open the bakery on Sundays. I was able to pick up my cake on a Sunday but I'm not sure if it's an every Sunday situation. Small shop. I called in a last minute order earlier in the month and they were able to accommodate for later on in the afternoon. We love everything we ordered. After trying several of the cakes & tres leches cakes. It was so hard to choose. We decided on the carrot cake for our wedding. I used to drive out to Bell Gardens just for churros. So I got excited when I heard about this churro place closer to home. I tried the churros here and they were good but not great. They reminded me of high school when a man would sell churros from a box just like these were in. They're so average in a good way. Their churros are up there compared to other places like El Pollo Loco and Costco, or churros from the frozen foods aisle at the grocery store, but it's not the best I've ever had. We ordered 12 pieces for $6. She had them ready for us as we walked in. We told her we were going to test them first before ordering 300 for our school fundraiser next week. We rushed back to our car to try 1from the warm pink box with the delicious aroma; we were pleased with the results. They were delicious and met our expectations. I have nothing but positive experiences here. I've had plenty of orders of 100+ churros and not once have I been disappointed. My orders in the past have been for fundraising purposes and family events. I've called, place the order and they ask at what time will you stop by to pick then up. You, as the customer gives then the time and they make sure the make the churros just before you get there (so that they can be fresh when you pick then up). This means, don't place an order and think you can pick then up 1 hour early because your in the area. They also offer champurrado (personally, I am not a fan of champurrado) but my job had good reviews about this one when I bought some. On one occasion, it was a gloomy and it was starting to rain, I had my 5month old in the car - I pulled up through the back door (through the alley) I called and the man brought my order TO MY DOOR and took my payment, brought my change back --- above and beyond if you ask me. We tried the pecan tres leches and cheesecake flan. they are both delicious, but My fave is the pecan tres leches. I've never had a better tres leches cake in my life! We have had people be rude and try to push a cake design that was simple because it was easier for them. Then this time I ordered they had 2 people in the front who didn't know what to do.
