13 Year old Himalayan after being boarded 6 months at Dr. Pasternak's Veterinary Clinic

Dr. Pasternak Veterinary Clinic - A True Lifesaver for Our Family I honestly cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr. Pasternak, his incredible wife Glory, and their kind, devoted staff. This family-run clinic is a rare gem in a world where big corporate vet chains have taken over so many local practices. What you find here is heart, compassion, skill, and genuine love for both animals and people. My partner faced a serious, life-threatening medical condition that required us to be away at a hospital campus for over six months. We were desperate and heartbroken, not knowing what to do with our three beloved pets. Family and friends simply couldn't care for them for that long. That's when Dr. Pasternak and his team quite literally saved us. They opened their hearts and clinic to our animals, caring for them as if they were their own. Our dog was walked, played with, and loved every single day--Sal, in particular, was extraordinary, showering him with affection and attention. Even on weekends, someone was always there to walk the pets, play with them, and make sure they were happy and safe. Glory, Dr. Pasternak's wife, went above and beyond as well. She told us that if she hadn't lost their home in the Palisades Fire, she would have brought our dog to stay with her personally. That kind of warmth and empathy is something you can't fake. For our two cats, the staff created a special area just for them so they could stretch, play, and even socialize. They were hugged, kissed, and doted on by Sal, Sarka, and the whole crew. During the boarding period, our dog developed allergy-related coughing. Even though we were difficult to reach (as my partner was in the ICU), Dr. Pasternak didn't hesitate--he ran tests, treated our dog right away, and made sure it wasn't something more serious. His intuition, medical skill, and judgment are simply unmatched. What also makes Dr. Pasternak exceptional is his philosophy of care. He believes in not overmedicating or overvaccinating pets, focusing instead on what they truly need to stay healthy and thrive. His approach is thoughtful, balanced, and grounded in decades of experience. He is an expert diagnostician, deeply skilled, and a truly outstanding veterinarian in every sense. You always know your animals are getting the best possible care without unnecessary interventions. I can honestly say that Dr. Pasternak and his team saved my life and my partner's--not just by caring for our animals, but by relieving us of a crushing worry during one of the darkest times of our lives. My partner often joked that he was more worried about his 25-pound Bengal cat than himself--and thanks to this clinic, he didn't have to be. When we finally brought our animals home, something amazing happened: instead of being anxious or withdrawn (like after other boarding experiences), our pets were healthy, joyful, and full of energy. Our dog actually seemed to miss the clinic! That says everything about the kind of care they received. Dr. Pasternak himself is a rare kind of vet--quiet, direct, deeply competent, and full of heart. He may come across as reserved, but don't mistake that for indifference. He's simply focused and no-nonsense, the kind of doctor you want when it really matters. He's the real deal--the best of the best. We will forever be grateful to Dr. Pasternak, Glory, Sal, Sarka, and everyone at the Pasternak Veterinary Clinic. You didn't just care for our animals--you cared for our hearts. You gave us peace during chaos and love during fear. You are truly family to us now. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.

The holistic Dr and walk-in appointments is what got me in the door. I waited about 45 min to be seen (no big deal for me that day) and within 30 seconds the Dr was in and out of the exam room. I came in for a concern for fleas on my dog and listed her symptoms. The assistant with the Dr noticed my dog was terrified and said something along the lines of "she's not going to let us get her on the table" and the Dr said "what, why?" and the assistant said "She's nervous look at her".... So they whisked my dog away, within 4 min she was back out in the lobby with me. No idea if she was given even a BASIC examination, vitals ears eyes, no idea. I left paying over $200 for a topical flea med, "an anti inflammatory shot" and to have nothing explained to me no guidance. 6 words spoken to me by the vet. The worst part I'd say, is as I'm in the lobby I'm watching people with their dogs come in right... one drove from orange county to be told "we only see patients 9-11 and 1-4" or something like that??? When I called they said they they are open for walk-ins all day? So I watched 1 dog get denied. Then another whose dog HAD JUST BEEN ATTACKED. The Dr was about to deny him. And this guy said "I've been coming here with my dogs for a really long time can you please check him out" Dog had a puncture on its head and and bleeding from nose. The Dr comes out to lobby explains he flushed head wound blah blah blah, and this guy goes what about the nose? And the Dr goes, "what? he's bleeding from nose?" I EVEN SAW BLOOD DRIPPING FROM THIS DOGS NOSE. He's not even examining dogs and I was extremely disappointed. I wanted to establish a primary vet for 6 animals I have but I won't be back. If I had been a long time patient, coming to my established vet I pay a stupid amount of money to go to, and it was even a question to see my dog during BUSINESS HOURS.... I'd be livid.

Tiptoeing walking on eggshells you name it miss use of Authority and the pet suffers as a result. Highly inhumane. What was once a very optimistic sigh of relief for a very nervous rescue could not be further from that situation at this point only found out after working with her. I already paid once for an after visit follow through for information. She should've followed through naturally on her own with. It's very disheartening to attempt to be reprimanded by your vet because of their unprofessionalism and lack of follow through and for me to be pointed out as difficult. All dialogue post initial visit should have been included in the initial visit or she should've stayed to follow through during that time. By no fault of my own, I continued to follow instructions and continue to believe and take her for her word. She talks over you and doesn't let you finish. She doesn't hear what you're saying or whatever you're saying she hears it incorrectly and lashes out at you. Very disappointed. I was very hopeful and very happy at one point. There are many other mobile vets in Los Angeles. Keep looking elsewhere. I'm a very compassionate, patient and kind and absolutely generous client. There is no reason for this behavior from any "professional."

For one, you cannot talk to anyone over the phone. But the worst part is, they pretend they're interpreting your pets results themselves and are actually using AI to do so. They're also creating a grey area by insisting the vet reviews the results first, but when I ask for "laymans terms" and you paste me something you pretend to write, yes I have a problem with that. When I asked, they admitted AI usage and then gaslighted me into believing it's only being used for "formatting". The only AI usage I ever agreed to was during a zoom call I agreed for AI based transcription of our conversation, that's all. I just don't understand why it's so hard to give an actual response that you wrote. I really wanted to like this vet but their time saving practices are grossly counterproductive and wildly inappropriate.

In my heart, some reasons, the words did not sound convincing. Decided to search for a vet that integrate alternatives medicine... we found Dr Chen. When we started working with Dr. Chen, she only had a room in her clinic. A small boutique vet clinic where mini walked around sniffed all the staff and we could be in her eye sight all the time. I do admit, I later did miss the intimate setting. Her clinic expanded more and more during our time with mini there. She got her chronic ear infection treated (in one treatment!) her gut issues and later her heart issue. There definitely has been hiccups here and there as the treatments were always smooth sailing but the staff really cared for mini. We got acupuncture herbal medicine nutrition support... she lived for another 2.5 years and the team were always gentle with her and really helped her. we don't have a dog at this time, but when we do, we will be going back to Dr Chen and the team!

Because of the cost, I needed some time before bringing my second cat in. During that time my second cat had a medical emergency -- a urinary blockage. I rushed him to the emergency vet, where the bill escalated quickly since everything was out of pocket. The emergency vet suggested that to save money, they could give me my cat's urine sample so my regular vet could run the lab tests instead of running them at the emergency hospital. I immediately called Holistika Vet because they were the only veterinarian I had an established relationship with. I was extremely distressed and crying because the emergency vet had told me there was a 50% chance my cat might not survive and that follow-up with my regular vet would be important. The receptionist told me it was their policy that they could not see my second cat because he had never been examined there before. I explained that I understood the policy but asked if they could at least run the urine tests (which I would pay for) to help us understand what caused the blockage. Unfortunately, I was told they could not do that either and that the tests would have to be done at the emergency hospital. The conversation felt very cold and unsympathetic during a moment that was extremely frightening for me as a pet owner. Fast forward to February 2026 -- I scheduled an appointment for both of my cats. A few days before the appointment I received an email canceling it, stating they would no longer see my pets because I had given attitude to the receptionist during the emergency call months earlier. I went in person to speak with management to explain the situation and my perspective. I was told they had no record of the conversation but were still refusing future care. For me, the most disappointing part of this experience was the lack of compassion during a very serious emergency and the refusal to even run a test that could have helped guide my cat's care. Thankfully, I have since found another holistic veterinarian in Glendale, California who has been incredibly supportive.

They were kind enough to reach out to their internal medicine specialist, Dr. Geist, who immediately agreed to see her as long as I was willing to drive to their Venice location. The very next day, we were there. The Venice facility is beautiful, peaceful, and welcoming. Dr. Geist had already reviewed the medical records I had emailed ahead of time, and he took the time to perform a thorough examination and discuss Marley's condition with me. Dr. Geist was incredibly knowledgeable, compassionate, and thoughtful in the way he cared for both Marley and me. Although our outcome was heartbreaking and I ultimately had to make the painful decision to let Marley go, I will always be grateful for the kindness, honesty, and dignity with which he guided us through one of the hardest moments of my life. I also want to thank his entire team for the exceptional care and compassion they showed us. And if a dog's weight truly appeared to change by that much, that should have been an immediate medical red flag, not something casually charted and moved past. The experience at Green Dog often felt like in and out, in and out. After dental cleanings, I often got only a couple of minutes with a doctor, and sometimes felt I had to push even to get that. There was no sense of a meaningful doctor-patient relationship, no sense that anyone was pausing to look at my dog as a whole patient, connect his mouth to broader health issues, or consider how his overall condition might affect the safest plan for future dental surgery. When I ultimately went to the veterinary dental specialist I chose, the difference was profound. They examined him carefully, looked at him as an individual patient, explained what they found, gave me updates during surgery, and required a follow-up where they walked me through the details of what had been found and what it meant. That experience only deepened my sadness over the years I spent at Green Dog thinking I was protecting him. This time, under general anesthesia with the specialist I chose, his recovery was completely different. He was a little groggy at first, but within a couple of hours of waking up from surgery, he was alert, comfortable, in a good mood, and even playful. His personality did not change. It was a completely different experience. This is only my experience and my opinion, but I would never choose Green Dog Dental again for extractions. I wish I had known then what I know now.
