I think today broke the camel's back. I have taken by dog to Pasternak for 4 + years. I've tolerated his behavior and manner because I do think he is a good veterinarian. But his dismissive, arrogant and rude behavior I will no longer tolerate. He does not listen to you, interrupts me when explaining my dogs aliment in a follow up appointment and basically told me what I was doing wrong to heal my dog although I did what I thought was best at 2pm last night. I had a very upsetting experience with Dr. Pasternak in early 2024 that I still think about today. At the time, my 16-year-old rescue dog, Piper--who I've had for 12 of those years--suddenly began screaming in pain a few days after I returned from vacation. At first I thought it might be a strain, but the episodes became more frequent, sometimes waking me up in the middle of the night. I was extremely worried and just wanted to help her. A friend recommended Dr. Pasternak because he really has been incredible with her dog who was suffering from similar symptoms. she also said he takes a more holistic approach and avoids unnecessary pharmaceuticals. When I called the office first thing in the morning, the front desk staff were incredibly kind and told me to come in right away without an appointment. When we arrived, the front desk was just as compassionate and they were able to get us seen quickly, which I appreciated. A vet tech came in first to take Piper's vitals. At the time, I thought he might have been the veterinarian. When Dr. Pasternak came in, however, the interaction quickly became uncomfortable. It was primarily the demeanor of Dr. Pasternak that made the experience so upsetting. He was dismissive and abrupt from the start, which my neighbor--who had accompanied me--also noticed. He immediately asked why I hadn't brought my dog's previous medical records. I explained that in the urgency of the situation that was the last thing on my mind, but that the VCA emergency hospital across the street had them and could easily email them over. He appeared irritated by this. I also explained the medications Piper was currently on and that I had given her a full dose of trazodone before the visit to help calm her anxiety. Piper is blind and has high anxiety, but she is generally very gentle with people. Dr. Pasternak then stated that he would not treat her because the stress of the visit could potentially cause her to have a heart attack. The vet tech, seeing how distressed I was, tried to comfort both me and Piper and gently held her to help keep her calm. The only thing Dr. Pasternak offered was an injection, which he administered. Feeling shaken and still desperate for help, we immediately went to the VCA hospital across the street. The staff there treated Piper and were surprised by how the situation had been handled. Piper ended up needing about three weeks of recovery. Those weeks involved many sleepless nights, often sleeping on the floor beside her to keep her from jumping while she healed. I'm sharing this experience simply to encourage other pet owners to thoroughly research veterinary providers and consider multiple opinions, even when a recommendation comes from a trusted source. I didn't bother to read the reviews before our visit with later regret. Giving 1 star vs none as the office staff and vet technician were very kind during this extremely stressful and worrisome situation. read more

Dr Pasternak is genuinely wonderful as an alternative to standard treatment in Veterinary Medicine for our fur babies. My biggest frustration with traditional vet practice is that they do not heal from the inside out. They typically only medicate, which puts a bandaid on the underlying issue, never to actually get healed.. I've been looking for years for a licensed, holistic veterinarian, and I finally found a wonderful option in this practice. I have a female dog that has chronic UTIs and Bacterial infections. Her usual vet gave 2 options to fix her latest infection in her nasal passage.... 1. continuously putting her on high dosages of steroids or 2. $5000+ CT scan. No plan to actually try to heal it first. I took her to Dr. Pasternak and with patience and time, he has healed the problem Significantly without having to do aggressive or invasive treatments to my baby. My partner faced a serious, life-threatening medical condition that required us to be away at a hospital campus for over six months. We were desperate and heartbroken, not knowing what to do with our three beloved pets. Family and friends simply couldn't care for them for that long. That's when Dr. Pasternak and his team quite literally saved us. They opened their hearts and clinic to our animals, caring for them as if they were their own. There's this one guy here-- I do not trust bringing my dog here he is so rude and I overheard him saying something in Spanish that was so mean to another person working here. I had a great experience with this clinic. After taking my dog Henny with horrible arthritis to 2 VCA hospitals, Henny finally started showing good results after seeing dr Pasternak. Henny was barely able to walk, after going through dr pasternak's treatment plan, he's was able to run/ walk normally within 2 days. Being experienced in both western and eastern medicine, the treatment consists of anti inflammatory med + lots of different herbs. I felt very comfortable after seeing dr Pasternak, I feel like his knowledge and long time experience is truly unique, something that I didn't feel at the previous vca hospital (I like to call them "textbook vets". Dr Pasternak's knowledge cannot be learned from textbooks, which is what makes him truly unique. 5/5 read more

I am writing this review after the loss of my dog, Bella, and I hope it helps other pet owners advocate more strongly for emergency or specialty care when needed. Bella was treated at Pasternak Veterinary Clinic over the course of nearly three weeks for a severe gastrointestinal illness that progressed to jaundice and significant liver abnormalities. During this time, she was repeatedly given antibiotics, fluids, and injections. Despite persistently abnormal bloodwork (extremely elevated liver enzymes and bilirubin, high white blood cell count), visible jaundice, recurring anorexia, and multiple relapses, I was never advised to seek emergency or specialty care, nor was the seriousness of her condition clearly communicated. At no point was I told that her condition could be life-threatening, that she might require 24/7 monitoring, or that she should be transferred to an emergency hospital or internal medicine specialist. Advanced imaging was not urgently recommended, despite ongoing liver involvement and jaundice. Instead, care continued conservatively with antibiotics. During a relapse, Bella was also given a fecal transplant, despite having active liver disease and systemic illness. Shortly after this procedure, she developed a fever and further deterioration. When I raised concerns that the fecal transplant may have contributed to her relapse, my concerns were dismissed. In hindsight, this intervention felt unnecessary and poorly timed, given the severity and unclear cause of her illness. Bella ultimately deteriorated and required emergency gallbladder surgery at an emergency hospital, where she was found to have severe complications including peritonitis and abdominal fluid. Tragically, she did not survive surgery. I trusted my regular veterinarian to tell me when Bella's condition was beyond routine outpatient care. Had I been clearly advised earlier to seek emergency treatment, advanced imaging, or specialty care, she may have had a better chance. While I believe the staff cared about Bella, I feel strongly that the lack of escalation, lack of urgency, questionable treatment decisions, and failure to refer contributed to a devastating outcome. I encourage other pet owners to seek second opinions or emergency care promptly if their pet has persistent jaundice, severe liver abnormalities, or is not improving. This review is written in the hope that future patients will receive earlier referrals and more appropriate escalation of care. read more

Unfortunately I had to put my 14 year old Cat down because he was suffering from cancer. I was recommended to Dr. Pasternak and I ended up going in to have my cat euthanized. The staff was very sweet and welcoming, and the experience was everything I could've asked for. A very sad moment for me was done with peace and precision. They give quality care and Dr. Pasternak son Jesse has slowly started to practice at the office and was present during the euthanasia and he was very kind, gentle, knowledgeable, and very sweet. 2 stars for the front staff and I did get some benefit of information in the consult from the vet. I went in for a consult for mass cell tumor. I was in the early stages of figuring out a protocol for my girl. This was my second opinion. I had a protocol in place from the first vet , which I brought in, and he didn't even consider it when he gave me 7 medication/ supplements. Unfortunately he did the fecal transplant procedure made my dog worse. The supplements were almost $400, one made her throw up, which she rarely does, the others gave her diarrhea no matter how slowly I introduced. Turns out peptides can be hard on sensitive tummies, which he knew she had, and still gave her. Why didn't he just offer one or two to see how she does?? It felt like a big money grab. My mistake was feeling desperate enough to buy them all. Bill came out to over $900! Anyone need any peptides? I have a bunch. read more

I am very disappointed and concerned for animals needing an x-ray reviwed here. I brought my cat in after an accident. Dr Pasternak took a couple of x-rays. He concluded that the cat had arthritis and no kidney stones. The cat was given an anti inflammatory injection and anti-biotic and sent home. Still concerned, the next day, I took the cat to an emergency vet in Santa Monica. The doctor looked at the x-rays taken by Dr Pasternak. This doctor concluded, based on the same x-rays, that the cat had 2 broken ribs and 2 breaks in his pelvis. They took an additional x-ray view and found one more break in the cat's pelvis for a total of 3 pelvis breaks. I called Dr Pasternak to explain. He was saddened to hear. But, did not apologize or offer any type of refund, partial or otherwise. I paid for a service (x-ray and reading) and did not get that. Then, had to pay for the same service (and more) at the Emergency Vet. I spent way more money at the Emergency Vet but actually received appropriate and exceptional testing, diagnosis, and treatment. Just wrong to the cat and me. Two stars because the office staff and other animal care specialists are very kind and professional. Kindness matters. read more

This was the first veterinary center that centered the needs of our cat Sensei and didn't quickly try to resolve the issue of Sensei feeling afraid by numbing her with sedatives. Instead, they offered for us to stay in the room with her, we helped hold her, and the nurse wore an old school long leather glove in case she did try to bite while being held. Upon seeing her, they treated her with care and dismissed old opinions of her being aggressive when in reality she was afraid of being with a bunch of strangers while those she trusts were not allowed to be with her in stressful procedures in other vet offices. She didn't bite even when her big eyes showed some concern, she let the doctor touch and pet her head (which is rare), and she looked at us while the doc gave her the shot she needed to feel better. We left in awe that this is not the norm. We really appreciate Pasternak vet center's animal-centered approach, value in non-western medicine and practices (while still giving western medicine as needed ofc), and the friendly staff! read more

So instead of potentially helping my dogs getting them to vomit out the toxic substance, he administered B12. $500 for nothing, customer for years, changing vets immediately. read more

The holistic Dr and walk-in appointments is what got me in the door. I waited about 45 min to be seen (no big deal for me that day) and within 30 seconds the Dr was in and out of the exam room. I came in for a concern for fleas on my dog and listed her symptoms. The assistant with the Dr noticed my dog was terrified and said something along the lines of "she's not going to let us get her on the table" and the Dr said "what, why?" and the assistant said "She's nervous look at her".... So they whisked my dog away, within 4 min she was back out in the lobby with me. No idea if she was given even a BASIC examination, vitals ears eyes, no idea. I left paying over $200 for a topical flea med, "an anti inflammatory shot" and to have nothing explained to me no guidance. 6 words spoken to me by the vet. The worst part I'd say, is as I'm in the lobby I'm watching people with their dogs come in right... one drove from orange county to be told "we only see patients 9-11 and 1-4" or something like that??? When I called they said they they are open for walk-ins all day? So I watched 1 dog get denied. Then another whose dog HAD JUST BEEN ATTACKED. The Dr was about to deny him. And this guy said "I've been coming here with my dogs for a really long time can you please check him out" Dog had a puncture on its head and and bleeding from nose. The Dr comes out to lobby explains he flushed head wound blah blah blah, and this guy goes what about the nose? And the Dr goes, "what? he's bleeding from nose?" I EVEN SAW BLOOD DRIPPING FROM THIS DOGS NOSE. He's not even examining dogs and I was extremely disappointed. I wanted to establish a primary vet for 6 animals I have but I won't be back. If I had been a long time patient, coming to my established vet I pay a stupid amount of money to go to, and it was even a question to see my dog during BUSINESS HOURS.... I'd be livid. read more

I am to devastated to write a long review, there should be negative stars. Took my dog there May 28th (billed $900). He prescribed extremely high dose antibiotics without testing her. My dog died June 2nd. She was fine prior to just labored breathing that should have been treated differently. Even I recall his nurse saying she has a very low fever, and he made it seem like she had a high fever which wasn't true. Beyond heart broken, my heart is smashed into pieces as I do not understand why he would do that. I am praying to God to ease this pain that I am feeling. read more

Bottom-Line: Pasternak is a great choice if you're willing to spend a few more dollars. In exchange, you get peace of mind and reliability. Pasternak sees patients on a first come, first serve basis. Which honestly works to your advantage as I was seen immediately. Also, Gloria was quick to respond to any emails for all my needs. Management definitely runs a tighter more organized ship. The scene is way less chaotic than some of the other veterinarians in the area. I felt calm and at ease here. I came here to get my cat a routine check-up, but also treat him for fleas after my apartment became unfortunately infested. I was seen immediately. The doctor was knowledgeable and spoke economically and commanded a sense of authority. My cat was prescribed some revolution and treated with fluids. I was prescribed with and a flea comb, and spray to kill/repel the fleas. I ordered the recommended blood tests since my cat is old. Everything came to about six hundred and some dollars. This is a little on the high end. Fortunately, my cat's labs were all clean. Nothing can beat a clean bill of health. There is some room for improvement though. The tiny flea comb was $15. It didn't even last a week. I thought I'd be buying one of those higher priced, but durable 'made in America' type items. It wasn't. The combing metal thistles broke off in less than a week. Also, unfortunately, at the time I requested, this vet had only 2/3 shots I needed to get my cat his updated shots. As a result, I had to go somewhere else. This wouldn't have bothered me too much if not for the fact that I had to again pay another mandatory fee for the 1st visit. read more

I've been looking for a trustworthy vet for 6+ years and I'm so happy to have found Pasternak! The staff is always nothing but pleasant to me and answers all my questions and the dogs really do come first which is such a breath of fresh air! We have tried modern animal (expensive, out of the way, and our dog never saw the same vet twice), VCA Wilshire (terribly unorganized and the staff is all miserable-l have wasted so many hours of my life on hold with these people or waiting for callback and my dogs all seem terrified of them) Pasternak was the only place that helped me when our three dogs caught kennel Cough which developed into pneumonia and I was Able to get my dog into the office and on medication the same day I found out my pup had been exposed at doggy day care. We were also able to quarantine them with Pasternak for a few days which gave us piece of mind that they are being treated for their sickness and not endangering other dogs or spreading it back to each other. And the prices are much more affordable than VCA. if you have any questions the staff is so beyond helpful i can't say enough good things about them. read more

Traumatizing. If i could give -3, i would. I hate leaving bad reviews b/c I'm an author and I know bad reviews can ruin you for years. However, this was so bad I felt the public needed to know. 10/5/23: I brought my 12wk puppy to get shots. He didn't acknowledge me or my dog when he got in the room- just asked the med tech to grab her and put her on the table. Then roughly yanked comb through her fur- she yelped. Listened to her heart for literally 5 seconds. Then abruptly stabbed her with her shots. Puppy yelped and hollered and peed. Med tech put her down and she immediately ran to me and hid behind me shaking. She hadn't even been nervous before. Then, Pasternak still didn't introduce himself, tell me about pricing, or let me ask questions. He angrily yelled at me, telling me she needed more socialization because she shouldn't be so scared. I hadn't taken her on walks yet b/c she hadn't been fully vaccinated. He cut me off and yelled, "Listen to me! You are setting her up for failure. The first six months are the most important for socialization! Introduce her to people and dogs you trust." Chastened and shocked, I just replied, "Yes." He nodded and told me to come back in a month for 16 week shots. I didn't get to ask him questions, he never checked her mouth, eyes, ears, paws, legs... I don't know if she's at a healthy weight or not. I had to ask the front desk what shots she got. I have no idea when to start brushing her teeth, how much vomit or diarrhea is normal and not worrisome, and what conditions to look out for. My puppy is a service dog in training- she is now terrified of brushes after he yanked the one through her fur once and then shot her while holding her down. This is a serious issue. For my health and hers- I need her to feel safe at the vet. I feel comfortable posting this because it's the truth and he can get mad all he wants- we are never going back there. read more

If you have to see Dr. Pasternak, I'm sorry - vets are not cheap. Here you're basically are paying for experience and he has loads. He knows everything there is about dog diet, cat behaviors and probably has done work on all of your farm type animals. It's usually busy, so try and go on off hours and call ahead. I wouldn't expect super speedy service or lots of pet bedside manner from Dr. P - it's just not his style. He focuses on the issue(s) and possible solutions, of which he shares rather than forces. I have had about 6 pets with him and he as done right by me. He isn't about the money it would seem, he bills fair but if you have need repeat pills there is pet insurance and maybe cheaper sources for some pet medication. They have plenty full parking, free dog biscuits, water and green-ish grass area for relieving pets. read more

What a spectacular experience. We just returned home from our first visit-- and we are blown away. FINALLY found our vet to solve our Luna's medical mystery-issues by employing root cause healing that utilizes the best of Eastern and Western medicine. Dr. Pasternak was the most intelligent, direct, thorough, efficient, comprehensive, undaunted, kind and caring, resourceful, experienced leader at our exam this morning. He is hands down the holistic vet of our dreams(!) His team was equally stunning-- Abby and Glory and Saul were all stand outs in how luminous, substantive and responsive they were. Everything was beautiful at the clinic: spotless, organized, well designed and so full of love and teamwork. One of the other patients who heard it was our first time even came over and whispered to us-- "this is the best vet in LA!" and we would whole-heartedly concur with that assessment. Dr. Pasternak gave us a miracle of healing this morning with Luna. Our tears of gratitude and relief upon leaving there, was a gigantic gift to feel. Thank you to the whole team! Luna was so relaxed there (which was our first indication of how special and different this place is) because all three of us could immediately feel that we found the light at the end of a very terrible and long, dog-distressed tunnel. Doctor and receptionist were great, even the doctors assistant was great help! I appreciated the time they gave me and my baby. My baby had a fever and kept throwing up his food, he is already feeling so much better after the doctor gave him some fluids and antibiotics. Dr. Pasternak is amazing. I run an animal rescue and we rescue lots of medical dogs. He has seen at least 50 dogs of ours and he always get them well. We have had dogs that other vets had said they cant help the dog due to severity of conditions and Dr. Pasternak had fixed them. Once we had a dog that had to go under surgery 4 times with another vet due to skin infection and when we took her to Dr. Pasternak she got well. He is truly an amazing vet. My personal dog had severe allergies for 4 years. Her condition was unmanageable but since I took her to Dr. Pasternak her allergies are very minimal. His holistic approach cured my dogs allergies. She does not even need those meds and supplements anymore. Last year we rescued a senior dog that could not walk properly and now she runs. All because of Dr. Pasternak. Like someone complaining that he does not take walk ins between 11-2. How entitled people are? Yes he does not because that is when he does surgeries!!! So you want him to cancel scheduled surgeries to see your dog? Or complaining that he didn't spend much time to talk with someone who brought their dog in for flea medication. What communication do you need? Your dog needed flea medication and per your comment he gave your dog flea meds and anti inflammatory shot. ‍ We love Dr. Pasternak and his staff. I'm so glad I found Dr. Pasternak. I usually go to Modern Animal but they didn't have the canine influenza vaccine so I went to Dr. Pasternak to get it for one of my dogs. My other new dog had been sick since I adopted him & wasn't eating & enough as generally just lethargic. I spent over $5K at Modern Animal & he wasn't getting better. I mentioned this to Dr. Pasternak & ended up bringing him in the next day. He immediately put George on another type of antibiotic, and 3 other herbs. He knows his shit; unlike the vets at Modern Animal. He has the experience & knowledge of a vet I see to work for while in college. The only downside is it's not a cheap vet. One vaccine was $110 (compared to only $35 at Modern Animal). Other than that he's the best vet on the Westside. read more

If I could give ZERO STARS I would. They are so BAD, UNPROFESSIONAL and I am filing a claim for medical malpractice. They overcharge and have hidden fees. In March 2022, I paid over $1000 for rabies shots and testing for my animals to qualify them to avoid quarantine in Hawaii and was told because it takes up to 2 months to receive results only released to the vet, that they would contact me if there was an issue or if my pet failed. We are leaving this month to Hawaii and I called to make sure the paperwork was in order and found out my cat did not pass even though he had all his shots. They found out in April and it is SEPTEMBER and they never ever called me!!! I called and spoke to the AWFUL office manager who never apologized and instead blamed me and said it was my fault and it wasn't their responsibility to call me, I was supposed to call them! She insulted me over and over and I asked to speak to Dr Pasternak and she said NO. I drove to the office to get answers and she refused and called the police!! My dog Ella was diagnosed with bladder cancer at the end of 2022, and since she was older at that time, 15- and had issues with her kidney values and where the tumor was located, vets had no idea how to treat her and gave her only months to live. Dr. Pasternak took a different view and treated her condition in such a way that she was able to live a great life for a year and a half - building her immune system and holding the cancer at bey. DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG HERE ! Bait and switch is just the start of it. The doctor had asked me if the dog was having any issues prior to him being neutered when I brought him in I said he was having some diarrhea but I wasn't worried about it. The doctor Dr. Pastrnak then proceeded to do a $300 fecal exam and assessment without my consent. Then the doctor spent the next several months with his office threatening to send my bill to collections because I refused to pay. Two years go by and I relocate to a new place in the country and they call the doctors office my current vet for records and his office pretends that I have never ever been there before. Our 10 yr old dog was diagnosed by a different veterinarian with squamous cell carcinoma in his throat. I researched vets with eastern/western medicine for cancer treatment and found Dr Pasternak 30 miles from where I live. Unfortunately the cancer was super aggressive and our little guy passed away within 1mo. But I decided to tryout Dr Pasternak with our other 11 yr old dog that had major UTI issues, eye issues, and overall senior dog issues (joints, lethargy, etc). After 1 week of antibiotics and a newly prescribed regiment of daily natural herb supplements from Dr Pasternak, our little missy is thriving again!
