Over 40 year I have been coming to this establishment I have seen the hayday so busy and time were a few people come in. This is a authentic mom and pop establishment. One of the of the last of its kind. I moved away for 7 years and came back to pico. I want to see if they were still open. Well they are still booming the market next door closed. Walked in wasn't busy. But smelled okay. Meat looked fresh chicken had good color. The marinaded polo asado and ranchero looked fresh. We got chicken asado and carne asada ranchero. The also still have prepared food. We got some cevieche it tasted fresh they had fish. Shrimp and shrimp and imitation crab mix. We got fish. Place was clean and the proprietors were very friendly like going back in time. Never had issue with this establishment and would still recommend it. Figured I'd check this spot out since I always pass by. They have a promotion of Carnitas for 34.95. It wasn't great, and I'm giving it the one star because the beans were going bad, rice was bland and carnitas were over cooked and had way too much fat. I had to throw the beans away. My family's been coming here ever since my dad worked for La Quebradita (owned by the same man). The quality and flavor of the meat is bar-none and they don't gouge you with their prices, even when everything shot up due to the pandemic. It actually looks pretty sketchy but once you set foot inside, everything changes. Their flawless customer service is undeniable. We had walked in minutes after closing, a day before a holiday, yet they happily assisted us with all our needs. We weren't rushed at any point and they made us feel like family. Customer service goes a long way nowadays and Pastor's has it down pat. Their marinated chicken is the best pre-marinated chicken I've had bar none. A lot of places have either made it too salty, too sour or simply lacked any sort of flavor. Pastor's gets their chicken right time and time again. I'm a fan of Pastor's! Good quality meat, reasonable prices and a counter with good quac/salsa for any occasion. The workers are always super friendly, and try to help guide you in what you should buy when you go in looking lost (as I usually do). In addition to the meat, I'm a fan of their guac, which is made fresh and has great texture and flavor. SUPER DISSAPOINTED , I've been coming here off and on for years. This week I went and I was hustled. They charged me 70 dollars for 4 lbs of flap meat (9.99 , 2 lbs of beef riblets (5.99 lb), and two lbs of chicken wings(2.99 lb) . I thought it was high at the time but I was in a hurry. This is the second time in recent months I get marinated meat that has gone rancid before it could even be cooked. Not sure if I can trust the quality as before. But I hope they pay closer attention on how to safely handle the food. Even though I used to live in Montebello, a friend from La Puente introduced me to this place many, many years ago and I have continued to patronize this establishment since. The prepared carne asada or chicken is your best bet when having a barbecue. The men that work the counter are extremely nice and ready to help you out. What's the poundage for fat people? People that may be thin with huge freakin' appetities? HELP! And the guys at Pastor's do. I tend to over purchase mainly because I have this fear that I'll run out of food. But their meat is so tasty that I don't mind grilling some up throughout the week. This place has been there forever! And it's still holds up! Up until I stopped eating meat (due to health..blah, blah, blah) Their meat was and probably from what hubby tells me still damn good! I love their salsas and pasta salads, cerviche too! Chips aren't too bad either (Fresh ones). Place has that small family business integrity for good old fashion flavor and very humble. I love it! Whenever we drive by (especially Friday's), we always make a stop. Recommendations from friends who live nearby or in the area is something you cannot ignore. Heading to a potluck BBQ at someone's house, when you are asked to bring carne asada, you have to bring something that will make people say, "this is the bomb", "where did you get this?", "did you marinade this yourself?". If you don't get responses like this, don't bother coming back. Stopping here getting 5 lbs of carne asada was only $29.51 so you do the math on how much I paid per pound. Doesn't matter how much it was with meats you can tell that is fresh and not sitting around for long periods of time. Definitely tells me product does move in this store and not from container to container. They also have a ready made counter you can order hot food and just start eating. Let me start off by saying it was my first time at this meat market. It was clean no bad odor meat was nice and red the way it suppose to be. I got a fee lbs of chicken, steak, skewers, and chorizo. The Gentleman who assisted me asked if i wanted the chorizo spicy or non spicy. I said non spicy i can't eat spicy. Im allergic. I should say that this place sucks and not to come here, but I can't be selfish. Now depending who you ask there are many places to go and get meat for your carne asada. However, having tried many carnecerias in my short life, I can say this without question that this is the best place I know. Carne Asada should be tender, not like beef fucking jerky(which most of these fn' places on Yelp use). Also, if there is no open flame and the meat doesn't have grill marks, it not Carne Asada! Its what sets Lions from Sheep. I hate montebello, pico rivera, whittier for many reasons but I only venture into these cities when I NEED to....For Pastor's ...YOU NEED TO! Marinated beef and chicken is 5 Star. Prices vary depending on the "market price" but you will probably drop about $6 a pound for the carne asada and $2 per pound for the chicken. Place gets busy in summer, so get there early and don't wait till the last minute. Make sure you get the "Desmillo" pronouced DESSMEEEYYYYOOOWW. Meat is very tender and deliciously marinated to perfection. It makes the carne asada tacos from King Taco and all of the other Roach Coach, Taco Stands really stand apart from fresh and high quality meats of Pastor's Meat. Add some Teriyaki sauce to the meat, and bam...Asian/Mexican Fusion! It isn't rocket science you minions! Ultimately, if you want it done right...DIY! Best pastrami meat ever it is a little expensive but it's so worth it I would strongly recommend this place

I have been coming here for two years now to get meat for barbecues because the price per pound for the marinated meat is often cheaper than that of unprepared meat from a supermarket. My friends and I all love the carne asada, but it is the pollo preparado sin hueso sin piel (prepared/marinated boneless, skinless chicken) that everyone raves over. It is marinated in orange juice and a variety of spices, and it is oh so fragrant, juicy, and bright orange when it comes off the grill. The guacamole is pretty standard fare, but whatever they've seasoned it with makes it seriously addictive! I like the ceviche here a lot too, though I do wish the ceviche de pescado (pico de gallo and white fish) had a higher fish-to-pdg ratio. I say this with no shame: I like the various ceviche here so much I eat it with a spoon. The best part of Pastor's is the staff. Everyone is super friendly and helpful. When I'm not sure how much meat to buy, they help me calculate the quantities and kinds I should get, and they've taken the time to explain what ingredients are used in the marinades when I asked on behalf of multi-food-allergies guests. read more

Very cheap per person, and with a wonderful vinegary and highly season flavor (without being too spicy). I have never seen so many happy eaters. Combined with some fresh tortillas and salsa from a local place, this became a legendary meal in Silverlake. Went in today because it was on my way home. Ordered the chicken combination plate to go. I get home and there's no chicken but a skirt steak. What the hell, I'm hungry no biggie. It's 50/50 meat/fat. I also have an agua de tamarindo, taste like old faucet water with syrup. I guess the big jars it's in is just for show because it's neither fresh nor natural. The only thing I've manage to eat was the rice and beans. The service from one of the ladies was horrible, they talk to you like your asking for a favor if that makes any sense.
