The Big Dudes ‍‍platter consisted of a hot #pastrami sandwich, a stuffed pastrami knish, Rueben eggrolls, potato chips and assorted pickles. Small venue w/a couple bar stool style seating & a couple of tables. Has that typical deli feel, & that's always a good thing. Fast service, average prices $12-20 for a small sandwich. There's free street parking, so that's always a nice touch. They offer desserts from Junior's (Brooklyn), coffee, chips, & typical deli brand sodas (Boylan). We had the Traditional Sloppy & the Turkey Sloppy. Both were very good. Could have been "sloppier" for my taste, as in not enough Russian Dressing or Coleslaw. I now understand why my Wife wanted extra Russian on her sandwich. She said it still wasn't enough, lol. My Wife enjoyed the coleslaw so much she wanted a side of it. I am so f-ing livid right now. Stay away from this please, they charged my card over fifty dollars with no intentions of fulfilling the order. On Sunday 4/15/2026 I placed an online order via their own site at 3pm for a pickup time at 4:30 (for reference they close at 7pm) my card was charged over $50. I arrived at 4:22 to discover a poorly handwritten and placed sign on the door under the store hours (making it hard to read) saying they are closing at 4pm. I received a phone call that didn't display the business name and when you cross reference it doesn't show any association with the business from Chatham NJ (they are located in New Providence). They left no message so giving zero indication it was even from them, (technically I still didn't know if it was I'm just being charitable) and to make matters worse the call was made after the business was already closed for that day making it useless to me. I don't care for excuses they'll render under this comment if they ever see this to attempt to make themselves look better, I have all the proof and evidence like I said either theft of services maliciously or through incompetence, nevertheless stay away from them. I will never patronize them again and strongly urge anyone coming across this to do the same. read more

This is a good place to get a hearty Jewish-style deli sandwich, at a reasonable price. The young guys at the counter are friendly, if a bit disorganized. But they make up for it with their obvious interest in pleasing the customer. Not the best Pastrami I have had, by a long shot. But it was a filling sandwich, and the price was right. read more

Stopped in for lunch today (Sunday). Greeted by a nice young man behind the counter who was very helpful and friendly. Between us we had the sloppy, a pastrami sandwich and chicken fingers with fries. Meal came with a big plate of really good homemade potato chips. Everyone enjoyed their meals and we had plenty to bring home afterwards, even after ordering the smaller sandwiches. It's hard to tell from the pictures but there are a few tables and bar/counter seating along the wall. There is street parking, a lot behind the building and then a larger lot in the shopping center behind it. Definitely worth the trip and we're looking forward to the leftovers and going back soon. read more

I share my Yelp friend Drew O's enthusiasm for this place. Ever since Long John's Sandwich Shop in Morristown closed, which I had patronized for decades, I've been looking for another such (or similar) location to satisfy my semi-regular urges for deli-style fare. Saw Pastrami House while driving through New Providence's "crossroads" intersection and decided to give it a shot. I'm glad I did. The shopping center parking lot in the back is a confusing, potentially hazardous warren of stores, oblivious pedestrians, tight parking spaces and cars going this way...that way...and the other way...at NASCAR-style rates of speed. But if you're careful, there are fairly numerous empty parking spots. Or...you could save yourself the trouble (and the extra walking distance) and park on the street in front of Pastrami House. On entering, I walked off to the side to peruse the menu on the wall and place my order (a vestige of my experiences at Long John's, I guess, where I'd invariably order at the side of the counter; I'd peruse the menu there too although invariably I always ordered the same thing), and the young man behind the counter directed me over to the front in order to order. I had to laugh as I thought he made a quick gesture towards the tip jar by the cash register, hoping to ensure that the old geezer (me) was aware of it, or so it seemed. I'm probably wrong about that, but I had to laugh...it reminded me of the scene from the Mel Brooks movie "Life Stinks" where a down-on-his-luck Mel dances (badly) in front of a paper cup serving as a tip jar and points it out to those disinterested pedestrians walking by. (As I've mentioned in other reviews, I'm not entirely up on "tip etiquette," and have been exasperated by places where you pour your own coffee or basically serve yourself and are expected to tip the counter person for giving you the correct change, so maybe I suffer from "tip jar paranoia." But I certainly don't mind paying it at a place like Pastrami House, as people prepare your sandwich from scratch and your food and present it to you in a bag as opposed to on a plate. In a situation like this, I have no problems at all with leaving a tip in the jar.) I expressed my interest in the Turkey Club (turkey, bacon, lettuce, tomato, cheese). You have 2 choices-- small or large. I had visions of the obscene amounts of food they served when I ate at Harold's in Parsippany some years ago, but I decided to go for it, and order the large. I figured if it was TOO large, I could save the uneaten portion for another day (or days). I also ordered the Matzo Ball Soup (all of this to go), and a bottle of grape soda. They had a pre-packaged version of Flan in the display case, and I couldn't resist. As it turned out, the large was the perfect portion for a hearty meal, but not so much as to qualify as decadent gluttony (as a perhaps irrelevant aside, the late comic Greg Giraldo did an hilarious albeit incisive bit on one of his CDs about restaurants in America serving a dessert called "Death By Chocolate" while people suffer malnourishment in other parts of the world, and in other parts of America, for that matter...but, as usual, I digress...). And it was a very good, very tasty sandwich, served with a pickle slice and a small container of coleslaw. The soup was not quite as satisfactory as the sandwich, but that didn't keep me from slurping it down with alacrity. I'm used to Flan as a kind of custard, and this commercial version (the desserts appear to be brought in from the outside and are not made "in-house") was more of a paste, but the taste was more than enough to satisfy my perennial "sweet tooth." I'd order it again. Prices aren't cheap, but then...where are they, these days? Given the quality and quantity of what you get, the prices are fair. I'm enthused about going again. Perusing their menu as I write, I'm already salivating over their "Latke Eggs" (scrambled eggs, crisp potatoes and melted cheese on a sub roll), or the "Fish Filet Rueben." I've never been an enthusiast about a Knish, but I'd like to give it another try here. Or the salads. And I don't know that I've ever in my life had a "garlic pickle" as opposed to a sour one. No time like the present to rectify that. I think I've found my new "sandwich/deli" place! read more

Where do I start?! This place transports me to a Brooklyn NYC deli! The manager Danny, was so welcoming and professional. My first visit and he made many suggestions. Got free fill kettle chips 5/5. The brisket sandwich was a 5/5. My wife got a turkey sloppy was a 4/5. She said best mac salad she ever had 5/5. I agree. The onion rings weren't memorable. I rarely review anything I order delivered as quality and temperature usually suffer from the delay. This will be an exception. We ordered 2 of the standard sized pastrami on rye and a cheesesteak which I believe was brisket and not the traditional ribeye . All were extremely generous for the price and the quality was amazing. Sandwiches came with a big pickle spear , delicious chips and a way too tiny coleslaw Z I'm saying way too tiny because it was great and I will definitely order as a side next time ! We also had a side of onion rings and had they been eaten immediately when made would qualify as some of the best I've ever had. read more

My husband and I traveled from the Flemington area to once again get the Sloppy sandwiches! They are so good we had to go back! I was not disappointed! The turkey on my sandwich was sooo moist. What you don't see in the picture was the deliciously crunchy pickle and chips. They were gone immediately!! I even order some extra whole pickles for later! My husband said his sandwich was also delicious. He just thought maybe another slice of corned beef would have made the difference between very good and great. Very good but with one surprising disappointment. I got a Rueben sandwich and it had a nice amount of meat and all the normal toppings but instead of the sandwich being grilled it seemed like the bread was just lightly toasted and the cheese melted some but the bread ended up being soggy. Maybe this is just how they do a Rueben but I prefer when the bread is buttered and the sandwich grilled such that that bread gets brown and crispy. We went to the Pastrami House for lunch and it was great! We ordered a tongue sandwich and a brisket sandwich. Both sandwiches were delicious. The brisket was tender and juicy and tongue was well prepared with mustard and rye bread. We also got amazing (Huge) pickles, homade potato chips, cole slaw,and really good Kasha Varnishkes. Everything was perfect. The best part of our visit was the service. From the moment we arrived we were greeted and treated like regulars. I really like a place that can focus on doing something specific and really doing it well. It's not quite accurate to place The Pastrami House into that category, because it's not like they only serve pastrami. But their entire (honestly, fairly sizable) menu has a great consistency to it. Deli meats, what I'd call Jewish-style (corned beef, pastrami, brisket...) served standard on rye bread, made to order. Pastrami served simply either with mustard or "dressed" with Russian dressing and cole slaw. Sides include multiple knish options, fries, latkes. Several other things but I was there for the thing they named the place after. I had their basic pastrami sandwich, dressed. They offer two sizes, small and large (6oz vs 9oz meat, iirc.) The small felt like plenty of meat to me, but hey some people like a huge pile of meat. Beautifully cooked, lean pastrami, and the slaw + dressing were perfect with it. I asked for cheese with it and they added it no charge. Living in northern California, one of the things I cannot seem to really find are knishes, so I was thrilled to see them on the menu. And not just the square fried kind (which are fine, but not the reason I still crave knishes 35 years after moving out of the NYC area), they also have the round baked ones, which I find infinitely better. Having said that, I'm pretty sure they microwave it to warm it up, because it was wrapped in a damp piece of paper and there was no flakiness at all to the crust. Kind of a shame. I assume it would take too long to heat from cold in an oven, but maybe they ought to consider microwaving to heat it through, and then a couple of minutes in an oven to bring the crust back to life. Half a sour pickle came with the sandwich, too. Service was solid. The guy working the counter was friendly and helpful, and didn't rush anyone. It took a few minutes for the order to come out, but totally reasonable and absolutely worth it. Happy my brother-in-law suggested this place for me to grab lunch today. Great little place. Very disappointing- ordered matza ball sou and not a single noodle, piece of chicken or carrot- just broth and a matza ball

Just had a brisket on rye with Russian dressing on the side. Didn't like it at all. The brisket was sliced so thin it was like chopped brisket. It was mushy. Unfortunately after two experiences and making the changes suggested for the second order, the food was still very disappointing. The pastrami is not like good NY pastrami with tons of seasoning and marbled fat. While their gold pastrami is definitely a bit better than their regular one, this is nothing like I am used to. There's a deli in the next town that has something close to the true NY version. While they weren't helped by slow Uber Eats delivery, I am not considering that but just how the food tasted. The portion was ample but the taste just wasn't there. The bread was typical rye, nothing special. There was a little mustard the second time but wish there was more. The first time I got it 'dressed' and while i like the dressing and slaw on it, it was way too damp and things fell apart; however, without it the normal (not gold) pastrami was ultra lean, almost tasteless and would have gone straight into the trash bin. The pickle, slaw and potato chips that come with the sandwiches are decent. The onion rings were not good. Oily (should have been drained better) and the extremely thick coating sent them quickly to the trash. The one redeeming thing was the chicken soup we got the first time which was definitely very good and a better than average. One of the items I ordered was not in the bag (which was sealed and had tag stapled to it). They offered to get me the missing item but it was already late and the person it was intended for was hungry and couldn't wait. We had waited 90 minutes (arrived late) just to get what we got but that was the delivery services fault not the store. If we ever want chicken soup (when I don't make it) in a pinch, that's when we may stop by the new store that opened in town. The owners are extremely nice and try to make things right, but when dealing with delivery it's difficult to do in a timely manner. read more

Update: I stopped in for a lunch in early Feb. 2024 and once again ordered a matzo ball soup, (specifically with just chicken broth and the matzo balls, no noodles), and a pastrami on rye bread sandwich with mustard, to eat in. Once again, the noodles were packed into the soup. The sandwich was fine and delicious. I showed the man who took my order the soup and he apologized for the mistake and took it back and had the correct version prepared. At least now they have someone who takes food orders who also speaks Spanish so supposedly there should be clearer communication for orders with the food prep. staff. Ok, on October 17, 2024 I decided to go to the Pastrami House in New Providence and purchase a couple of Pastrami Sandwiches. I was asked when ordering two sandwiches what size small or large. I said two large please. Preparation took about 10 minutes which was ok with me. Now lets review what I got. Lets start with why I gave this meal two stars out of five. 1. the chips served with the meal were absolutely stale. I could not eat them, took away one star. 2. The pickel that came with the sandwich was horrible to say the least, soggy again I could not eat it. now we have 3 stars. 3. The rye bread, you would think they would use fresh sliced rye, but no it was packaged bread. Unlike the Avenue Deli, a few stores away, where they slice fresh bread for their sandwiches. now we are at 2 stars. 4. Yes there was a lot of Pastrami between the two small slices of bread, taste was ok, but not great. 5.I did get two Sandwiches and upon arrival at my business I did finish the first one. I looked at the second, everything was similar. So Instead of going back to show the manager what I am complaning about, I deposited the 2nd sandwich in my dumpster.
