I'm sorry, I'm local to Bagel Cafe and I really want to support them but, I'm done with this place. The place is usually pretty crowded so I pay the extra fees and order online. Usually breakfast sandwiches. Every single time they get my order wrong. Without exception. But today I order a bacon and cheese on a hard roll, no egg, w/spk. Well there was egg, ONE piece of bacon, ONE piece of the wrong cheese, no spk. The only thing they go right was the roll. For 8 bucks. I'm done. read more

Went here on a recommendation of a colleague. The THEC was sub par. There was hardly any egg or cheese on it but it was loaded with TH and the bread was on the stale side. The coffee creamers were hidden in the cool box. The coffee area was a mess. Took a little while to get someone to take my order. The inside was very messy and hard to tell it was a cafe. Good, quality bagels here. You can tell they're made fresh and they have a large menu to choose from for your bagel, your cream cheese, and your toppings. Or if you're crazy and go to bagel cafe for something other than a bagel, they do have a large menu of sandwiches/salads/smoothies/etc. Lines can be quite long and with combined online ordering, it can take some time to get your order fulfilled, so plan ahead or come early. The main reason I am always tentative to come here is their service. I often feel uncomfortable or awkward ordering because there is no clear flow of business. When you walk in, it is not clear where to go to order or where the line starts, and if you make a mistake you are met with an eye roll or a gruff response. Bagel making is a craft, and this place has the skills. They pump out plump bagels with the perfect crunch to the crust with an airy doughy center. Don't trust a job as important as your weekend bagel to any schlump working the bakery counter of your grocery store... they are imposters. Bagels and sandwiches are awesome. But this place is so inefficient. All I wanted were a few bagels, but I still had to wait on a line which were taking sandwich and grill orders. My bagel order could have been taken and fulfilled in less than 30 seconds right at the register. Instead, I had to endure all the sandwich and grill orders before I could place my simple order for only bagels. And person at the register is directly next to the bagels!! I ordered a sandwich, which was made incorrectly.  When I politely  informed the guy behind the counter, he got very surly and started making a huge scene in front of the other customers.  He actually argued with me, loudly.   It was an embarrassment. I realize the place was crowded, but this treatment was uncalled for.  I will never step food in this place again because of this person.  The owner seems nice, so it's a shame one employee can cause him to lose business. read more

I have been deeply invested in the local fight over the best bagel in New Providence for years now and I have a lot of thoughts about it. In New Providence you pretty much have 3 local options: Noah's, Bagel Cafe, and Dunkin Donuts. Obviously only a lunatic would choose to get their bagel from Dunkin so I won't even bother with that. The true debate is between Bagel Cafe and Noah's. What I actually love about Bagel Cafe, is their breakfast sandwiches. They have a lot of customizable options, including that you can get a hashbrown on your sandwich, which Noah's does not offer. They also make the eggs right there on the griddle, while Noah's microwaves theirs which, in all honesty, kinda sucks. I also like that Bagel Cafe has the big flat bagels, it's an interesting unique option and is great toasted with butter. Here are my beefs with this place: While Noah's has cheese that tastes fresh from the deli, Bagel Cafe's cheese is more like a kraft single or something. Their cream cheese, particularly the veggie cream cheese, is not as good as other places. Also, I just don't think their bagels are up to the quality level you should expect in New Jersey. They have a sort of weird texture and taste that is hard to describe. The bagel on its own is just not that great. Maybe if you were in like Ohio or something sure, but again, this is NJ! We have a reputation to maintain! Anyway, when I want a breakfast sandwich, I will go for Bagel Cafe bc their eggs are way better and I like the hashbrown option. In a sandwich, the bagel quality is less noticeable. Plus they have really good drinks and chips and stuff available. But if I wanted a classic bagel, maybe just with butter or cream cheese, I would simply go across the street to Noah's. Because even though some other stuff there is worse, on pure bagel quality alone they really crush this place. read more

For a bagel place, they do their lunch very well. The Chicken Que is a great sandwich. The rub and sauce on the chicken had a ton of flavor. The slaw and the pickles were fresh. The bun was toasted and didn't fall apart after a 20 minute drive. I'm excited to try one of their breakfast sandwiches. They also have a handful of smoothies and acai. Do not go here, it is way too expensive. It cost $17 for one egg/one meat breakfast wrap and one bagel with cream cheese. They also add over $1 on credit card fees. Trust me, there are so many options in the area which provides better value. It is clear they renovated and are trying to recover the costs with elevated prices. These prices for two items should be maybe $12, wrap $8 and bagel $4 max. It has nothing to do with the food, it's fine, price is awful. The owner should be ashamed to charge that. You will see the owner is leaving a comment below saying this a lie (even though he didn't deny the lack of meat, credit card fees, or price increases) of which is much worse instead of apologizing. read more

The best bagels around. Always fresh and big (not the small, generic ones you get elsewhere). Their staff is exceptional and quick. Owner is personable and very friendly. Weekends get very busy but the line moves like lightening. Revamped coffee (quality stuff) makes a visit even better. Quality Taylor Ham. Real deal bagel shop. I go out of my way to come here. I recently started working in the area for a pharmaceutical company and decided to go here for a bagel for lunch today. I looked at their sandwich board and nothing looked like it was something I was craving. I ended up just keeping it simple and ordered a turkey sandwich on an everything bagel with lettuce tomato and mustard. The sandwich was perfect as expected. The turkey was sliced fresh and was not "wet" or slimy. The tomatoes and lettuce were crisp and had a nice bite to them. The mustard was in perfect amount. Now to the star of the show, the bagel. Located off of Springfield Avenue in New Providence, NJ, Bagel Cafe is up against high standards. For one thing - good old Noah's Bagels sits directly across the street, and for another, the Bagel Capital of the USA (aka NYC) is just 25 miles down the road. So, simply put - Bagel Cafe customers know a thing or two about good bagels. Still, have no fear of "settling" here. Rest assured, these bagels are EVERY bit as fresh, tasty (and big!) as a dreamy NYC bagel. What's more - the plethora of options, and the quality of ingredients added to your bagel are superb. The eggs are cooked fresh on the grill (no microwaved eggs here); the smoked salmon is silky, smooth and boneless; and the cream cheese options leave nothing to be desired (smoked salmon or raisin-infused cream cheese, anyone?). It's every bit as good as my favorite bagel shop in NYC! Granted, it can get a bit crowded (especially at peak hours), and the line can be a bit tricky, but once you know how it works, it makes sense. First, you walk in, get on line, and place your order. Then, take your order receipt, and stay on the line, until you get to the register to pay. Finally, step aside, and wait for your order number to be called. I believe there are tables in the back - although I've always gotten my orders to-go. In addition to bagels and all of the "fix-ins", Bagel Cafe has some pastries (muffins, cookies, etc.), and coffee. Personally, however, I can only attest to the quality of their bagels. Ordered catering for a birthday brunch. The lox and cream cheese platter prepared by Bagel Cafe was amazing! And the presentation was beautiful. Bagel Cafe also coordinates with Sugar Mama's for baked goods. So, I ordered scones, two loaves of bread, and a buttercream birthday cake. Everything was delicious!
