I'm definitely a fan of this place. The prices aren't too bad and the portions are HUGE! I can't really speak for the service because I ordered take out, but the person who took my order was pleasant and my food was ready when they said it'd be. They had a 3 piece pollock special the day that I went and I was amazed at the portions. The fish was good and fried perfectly and the chips were good. I was able to have lunch the next day because it was so much food. I'll definitely be back. read more

Unfortunately we didn't get a chance to dine in at Pat & Hank's (thanks, pandemic), but we did do takeout when they were running a special on fish and chips. I was pleasantly surprised that the coleslaw was not the usual goopy mess that I have come to expect from coleslaw... it was edible, and didn't end up unopened in my trash can. Also, somehow, the fish stayed crispy in its styrofoam container on the ~15 min drive back to my house. The portions, as others have mentioned, were HUGE. I barely managed to finish mine. My daughter had leftovers. The fish and chips were delicious and the takeout service was friendly and efficient. If I wasn't trying to lose all of my pandemic baking weight, I would be taking advantage of the Tuesday special on a weekly basis. Yum. read more

My family and I have been going to the restaurants of Pat and Hanks; and Sir Cedrics. Both restaurants, same family. For the last 45 years have been loving the fish. I am more than happy to drive the 45 miles from my home in Michigan for the best fish ever. My only critique are the fries. While they are better then what they were, still room for improvement. read more

Small portions of fish but the batter is near perfect. The homemade green tartar sauce is also fantastic, but you have to pay for it if you want any at all when getting take out. For this reason I suggest dining in, as they also have great local beer on tap that was good and cold, and didn't taste off like unmaintained draught lines. However!! The waitress, who was great and brutally honest, revealed almost all of the other appetizers etc. are all frozen and not homemade. She saved us from a very disappointing calamari order, for sure, so we ripped her real good! Took a star away because their rather expensive original halibut dinner was so stingy with the fish. Portion sizes are terrible here so beware. Something I've never experienced at other fish and chip shops which usually give you a huge amount of food. Definitely not here read more

Pat and Hank's is a family destination for us. My dad grew up in Windsor ('40s-'50s) eating fish and chips here, so we have been eating their halibut fish and chips for literally decades, and it is always the same great quality. We drive over from Detroit as a special treat or a celebration dinner or just because we miss it. We get the halibut battered and fried. The batter is light and fluffy and the white halibut fish filets are beautiful cuts of meat with almost the texture of chicken. Two pieces of fish is enough for just about anyone, they are about the size of your hand. I just get one piece and fries. It's better than any fish I've had anywhere in the states or the UK I grew up with fast food fries in the states, so I never loved their 'chips' as much as my parents did :-), but if you like thick fries, you will love them. Notice the side of gravy that's available on the sides menu. It is brown gravy and perfect for dipping the fries. read more

The decor is less than stellar....but fancy isn't why you're here. What you'll get is a great fish and chip meal at a decent price, battered the way you want, with home cut fries (similar to Swiss Chalet). We visited t,he night of March 6th and they had a special......3 strips of Halibut, with chips....for $9.99. The strips were quite large considering the price and they, along with fries, bun and coleslaw, were very filling. The bun and coleslaw were $1.50 extra....but seriously....a big fish and chip meal for $11.49 is a steal. They have other items on the menu (I think), but it's the fish and chips that keep me coming back. Just don't expect it to be fancy....... read more

I used to go here for fish every friday. I dont know what has happened, but the last 4 times I've gone, it's been just awful. The fish has too much of a fishy taste, the fries are meh, the service is terrible. I hate to leave a bad review on such a iconic fish place, but it's gone down hill lately. Been going to this restaurant chain for over 25 years and the Halibut is always always excellent. Is it cheap no, but it is quality. Reading another review I was sad that someone was more concerned with the looks of the restaurant then the taste of the food. Seriously I think we have all been to some pretty restaurants with terrible food. I personally would rather have average atmosphere and great good then the other way around. It is 100% family dining at its best. Staff is always friendly and service is fairly quick for cooked to order food. read more

Only been to this place once. I was very pleased with both the service and the food. My girlfriend and I got fish and chips. Very big serving of fish and a good amount of fries too. We were both very pleased with our meals. Our waitress was very friendly. Even though it was busy at the time she consistently checked up on us. Been a customer for many years! Its such a shame that they have gone and ruined a place that use to be awsome! First off the prices over the last 5 years have skyrocketed. Then they went and down sized your portions, you get about 1/2 the size of fish you use to. A dinner use to be in a full size eat out container filled with fries. Now they've gone and knocked that down again to HALF the container size and maybe 1/3 of the fries. My family just had it last night and the fish was dryer then paper dust. Some of the batter was rock hard, definitely looked like it was redipped in oil. Im very sad and frustrated, I use to look forward to eatting there =( For the amount of money you pay this is robbery. read more

So disappointed, they used to be THE BEST, now absolute garbage. The fish was fried at too low a temperature and instead of having a nice crispy outside it was like a slightly crisp grease filled sponge, when you picked up the piece of fish it was dripping in grease and when u pressed on it grease poured out. The fries were under cooked still hard in the center, the bun was stale and finally the coleslaw was dry and basically fresh raw cabbage and some specks of carrot with a little oil and vinegar. While visiting in Canada, my wife and I went looking for some fish and chips. This place came recommended. Where to start. This place is not fancy. It has a "take out" look to it but with extra tables. The table we sat at had the typical nasty napkin under the table leg balancing act going on. The vinyl and chrome chairs were straight out of a banquet room. The restaurant looked cleaned in a freshly wiped down sort of way. The interior looks finished but by who? An interior decorator or someone with a Visual Arts background would not hurt this place. On a good note, the waitress, who was very freindly and polite, recommended the halibut fish and chips which was outstanding. Not overcooked, very flavorful but not fishy. We both agreed the fish was great. If I were to grade the food alone, it would be a 4 star. I should also mention, we could also hear a little too much about the the waitress' private lives as they were in the kitchen area talking away. Something about a tattoo, a movie they saw last night, etc. I kept looking for a manager or someone who looked managerial but that didn't happen. All in all, if you want a quick lunch thats tasty, this place is ok. If you're looking to impress a significant other, go out with the boss, or something along those lines, don't do it. read more

Pat & Hank's has the best fried halibut I've ever tasted. I've been going there for years and it has never disappointed me. I've tried other restaurants which had a buzz about them but they've always underwhelmed with their soggy batters and small portions. Pat & Hank's halibut is always crispy with a nice big cut, the fries are nice as well. Food comes very fast to the table. One tip: On the menu is a "halibut dinner" which comes with halibut, fries, a roll and coleslaw. You can order "halibut fish & chips" to opt out of the roll and coleslaw and save a couple of bucks. I'm always stuffed without it anyway! I've been a regular there for as long as I can remember. read more

The decor has a lot to be desired. The whole place is just tired and old looking. If they spent some time sprucing it up, the dingy atmosphere would improve substantially. It was within an hour of closing time and the waitress was very to the point I guess you could say. Not courteous or particularly interested in customers. She seemed like she wanted to get out of there and started putting the chairs up on the tables around us which was a bit rude. At least wait until we're at the counter to pay. We ordered fish and chips as well as the shrimp basket dinner. I'm pretty certain most of their non-fish dinners are just frozen items as they don't taste fresh at all. Years ago the fish portions used to be a lot bigger. The taste of the haddock and halibut were great but I wouldn't recommend getting a non-fish dish. This place is more suited to just order takeout fish and chips or have a quick lunch at due to the not-great service and very dated state of the interior. read more

Ordered take out and it was ready in less than 5 minutes. The bun was my favorite part of the meal, had a sweet sauce on it and I would order extra next time. Tastes just like every other fish and chip place and as others have said its pricy with small portions. read more

I will never be back, not welcomed in, never learned the servers name from the server. Told a knife was dirty because the dishwasher tends to leave soap on the knives. Was made to feel rushed even though we were there at 7:20 p.m. Asked for a piece of pie and was rudely told that the dining room was closed ( 7:50 p.m. ) and she couldn't get me a piece. After asking for the owners car, she goes over to the main area and asks loud enough for me to hear across the room "Do I have to give him a piece of pie after the dining room closes?", when she gets the answer yes she responds with "really". I refused her offer of the pie after that display. She argued with me and said she was "new" and she'd never been a waitress before. Her attitude was horrible, The buns were warmed in a microwave and extremely chewy. Fries were almost cold on delivery and the fish tasted half cooked. We will never be back. read more

Ordered take-out and was very dissatisfied. They messed up my order and I had to wait an extra 20 mins for them to make another couple dinners to replace it. The portion wasn't worth the price I paid, I mean an extra $10 for a 4 oz piece of fish is ridiculous. I ate my dinner and still felt hungry. I seem to remember a few years ago that the portions were great compared to the price, but now they're really skimping out the food. I have been a customer of Pat and Hanks for many years and I have been very happy in the past. Lately I have found that the potions have been getting small and the prices have gone up. Last Sunday ordered fish and chips to go and got one small piece of halibut and substandard fries all for the price of $18.50. Wasn't informed that they had a special of halibut and chips for $ 10.50 and only learned of it after the staff were taking an order over the phone with another customer. I will think very seriously about returning to the restaurant. read more
