"Multiple Layers" of Deception and Unprofessionalism…read more.. In my correspondence with Gene K., a representative of Scope Environmental (cut and pasted from Yelp chat room) mentions "We can definitely help. Our asbestos inspection, survey, and lab results pricing is very competitive. It's $625 for the inspection and report. Each sample is $35. No other fees. Generally, results and reports will be available within 24-48 hours". Gene K. also mentioned the following "Some samples have multiple layers, and that can not be determined prior to taking the physical sample. You are welcome to call in so that you can properly comprehend the procedures". However, UNDISCLOSED FEES can creep into the price charged to the customer, e.g. such as the need to test "multiple layers" of one material; so, "No other fees" is (deliberately) misleading and therefore, deceptive. A field inspector (Daisy Flamenco) of Scope Environmental, arrived at the project site and upon seeing the area that needed sampling, asked the homeowner for a ladder to get her modest stature to the sampling material areas. When sampling the ceiling, Ms. Flamenco was barely able to reach the sampling surface (needed to be on her tippy toes), even with a step ladder (provided by the homeowner). ALL sample takers must come fully prepared for all conditions at the work site and not rely on the homeowner to provide tools, equipment or assistance of any kind to do THEIR job! Ms. Flamenco was dressed casually, no respirator or other appropriate protective equipment or gear, which is not only hazardous to herself, but sends the message to the homeowner (overseeing the work), that asbestos is really not that harmful. Even two and a half years following the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is appropriate if all workers who enter a home, to wear a mask or at least offer to wear one, but Ms. Flamenco failed to show the occupants of the residence, such consideration. Most (professional) people return to bad pre-pandemic habits, even if to protect the home's occupants from the common cold. What is really inconsiderate and unprofessional, is that Ms. Flamenco had disturbed suspected asbestos containing materials by scraping and cutting away material from parts of a furnace and its ducts, leaving the furnace and ducts out-of-order, i.e. if no asbestos or other harmful materials were found, the furnace and ducts could not be safely and effectively used without first repairing them. Leaving carcinogenic materials exposed (cutting, scraping or otherwise removing and exposing asbestos) to those who live at the work site, is hazardous and unprofessional and should never be done this way. Exposing harmful materials puts people and animals at risk of exposure to carcinogens and asbestosis causing particles! Asbestos sample takers should take measures to seal or otherwise cover, exposed asbestos containing materials (when they are through sampling them), to protect home occupants. This experience was a wake-up call to how incompetent workers can make a bad situation, worse!

After my plumber discovered extensive sewage leakage beneath my house, we needed immediate cleanup…read morebefore any repair work could begin. We contacted Scope Environmental because they specialize in a wide range of services, including sewage and mold remediation. Veronika was courteous, highly responsive, and scheduled a team to come out the same day. Peter and his crew were professional, efficient, and thorough. They quickly extracted the standing water, debris, and sewage, then applied absorbent materials to the wet areas to remove moisture. They also installed heaters and drying equipment to prevent further damage. I appreciated that they returned over the following days to monitor progress and ensure everything was drying properly. Their support during such a stressful situation made a world of difference. I highly recommend this reliable, family-owned company for anyone needing this kind of emergency cleanup services.

I was in a desperate need to find somebody who is qualified to check some mold and do testing in my…read morehouse. I did the petri dish test by that mold thing you get at home depot or lowes. Needless to say, I hear that it's not as accurate. So since I needed absolute accuracy and the reviews were awesome, I chose to go with this company. I am extremely grateful for both of them. They are super patient. They helped me and more way than I can imagine and I look forward to not only using them again, but also referring them. It's nice to know that there are good people out there who are willing to help you and that are doing things the right way Thank you so much.

I am deeply concerned with the testing practices and reporting accuracy of West Coast Environmental…read moreTesting. This firm was hired by my property management company to sample an HVAC system in my residential unit following a chronic maintenance issue. The individual inspector, Mitchell Schonfeld, provided a hand-typed incomplete Word document summary report explicitly claiming there were "no contamination concerns" and "no remediation needed" regarding a surface swab of the AC unit. However, when I requested the actual, official laboratory analysis data sheets from PRO-LAB (Report #1941296) that this company utilized, the physical data pages completely exposed the text in their Word document as a total misrepresentation. The official laboratory results for the exact same AC Condenser sample featured a capitalized, clear conclusion of "UNUSUAL" and documented an astronomical 9,000 spores per square centimeter of Cladosporium mold alongside 1,200 counts of active Fungal Hyphae (active fungal growth roots) Furthermore, while their Word document claimed moisture readings were completely "normal" at 12% or below, the inspector simultaneously contradicts himself in the exact same paragraph by noting visible water damage on the ceiling and water stains on the AC closet floorboard and intake area. Because they failed to perform actual moisture mapping and missed a massive 17%-20% active structural wall leak, they declared the unit normal while overlooking a major infrastructure failure. Additionally, the paperwork completely lacked the mandatory signed Chain of Custody tracking document required for a certified environmental report, and the Word document downplayed an active raw count of 266 spores per cubic meter inside the AC intake air test. To make matters worse, the inspector recommended a non-compliant 1/3 bleach and 2/3 water mixture to wipe down the area, a practice that directly violates EPA residential mold guidelines and OSHA standards because bleach cannot penetrate porous substrates and its water content actively feeds underlying hyphae root structures. Because this firm's Word document downplayed a heavy 9,000 spore colonization and completely missed the active infrastructure leak, I was forced to hire an independent industrial hygiene firm out of pocket to protect my health. This second inspection uncovered the true extent of the damage, documenting an active 17%-20% structural moisture leak and 45,000 raw spore counts inside the air ducts. Avoid this firm if you expect thorough, scientifically accurate reporting. I whole heartedly believe that this company intentionally provided false reporting in special interest of the property management - intending to avoid costly proper repair methods and they are being reported to state licensing boards.

I had this weird musty smell in my house mostly when I had the AC on. I had someone come look at…read morethe AC unit and they said it was fine. The smell wasn't going away so I thought maybe it was mold. I called Frank and Sonia and they were able to schedule an inspection for the same. Frank came and sent a little robot camera under the house and was able to find the smell that has been driving me crazy for almost two months now. The main sewer line is leaking and there's sewage just sitting beneath my house. Frank was great he even recommended a company to come and clean the soil from bacteria. So glad this mystery smell was finally solved.

Original review (2/9/23, one star):…read more "Since we do not perform mold abatement and removal...there is no conflict of interest for our valued clients." Which is precisely why I eagerly called Hidatsa for mold testing, and even mentioned this Yelp quote yesterday when I made the appointment with Sonia. But when Frank came out this morning to check two separate areas, he told me he could take a large sample of the area I was most concerned with, but their tests on that specific area would most likely return "inconclusive." So.....he suggested calling a mold abatement/remediation company to have THEM test that area. Seriously?! Don't worry, Hidatsa: you'll still get paid your $445 ($395 = service call, $95 = sample from the other area), but you certainly won't get any referrals from me. Not the best use of my time and money. Update (3/24/23, three stars): Almost thirty days after payment, and still no word from Sonia or Frank. I contacted Sonia on 3/16/23 and asked where the test results were. She said she'd contact Frank immediately (mentioning to me about some sort of "personal emergency" Frank was having) and ask him about them. She called back a short time later and said they'd refund my entire payment and forego the test results. In exchange, she asked if I'd "reconsider" my Yelp review. I told her I would after I received my refund. (Still unsure about their explanation for "inconclusive." Sonia said on 3/16 they didn't want me to "waste my money" testing an area that most likely would come back positive -- frankly, I'd rather spend the money and have the result in writing. Also hoping Frank's month-long "personal emergency" has been resolved.) Refund finally received yesterday (3/23/23), review amended to reflect. Yelp officially discourages removing reviews after receiving refunds, but review updates aren't possible after 30 days. So you're welcome, Hidatsa, for removing the original one star review.
