This is one of my favorite places to explore in Pineville. I love looking down each aisle at all the packages and food items. The store is neat, clean and well organized. The employees are helpful and answer your questions. I love all of the spice packages and the large freezer section. They had a large selection of spice packages that tell you what ingredients to add to make the specific dish. There is also a fast food area in the back of the store. The lady worker there was able to tell me what was in each item. I got 2 Samosas (Schzewan and Paneer Chili)and 1 Paneer Chili puff! Don't be fooled those chilis are powerful! Our first time coming to the store. The produce is very well stocked with so many varieties of vegetables!!!! it was very busy but cleaner than most Indian grocery stores. So many options. This is a full grocery store with fresh produce, frozen, meats and butchery, dry goods, kitchenware and all sorts of candy, soups, sauces and spices. I was looking for a couple of items and ended up walking out with a full grocery bag of some fresh garlic, two jars of curry sauce, some frozen naan and four different types of cookies/candies. Prices are great. The store is clean. And yes, it can definitely get busy. Charlotte's South Asian community is growing and if they're looking for imported South Asian foods, this is the spot. First, go during the day. I was in and out. I value the store as it brings a culinary context to Indian cooking with authentic items. The store is clean and very well laid out. Wish I knew what I needed to cook certain dishes or someone who could speak enough English so I could ask questions. Rude and Racist On 10/29, I purchased parsley from Patel Brothers. On Friday, I started to go thru the bunch so I could clean and begin meal prepping. There was an odor coming from the middle section, so I went back to the store to return. The cashier I spoke to was extremely rude. She looked at the receipt and told me that I could only be refunded on a card, even though I paid cash. I asked how this was possible, if I paid in cash. She then asked if I was on food stamps. So not only is she rude but then has the nerve to make a racially motivated comment, which speaks loudly about micro agressions and racism amongst people of color, but I digress. This is a great store for Indian groceries. The store is well organized and easy to navigate even for someone new to Indian cooking. I needed 6 items and was in and out in 5 minutes. Some of the other reviews stated that it was very busy. I went at 2:30pm on a Monday and the store had maybe 6 customers. Staff was polite and helpful. read more

I have shopped at Patel Brothers for several years now - it happens to be the closest (150 miles) Indian Grocery store for us, the other one being Cherian's in Atlanta. It pains me to give 3 stars because my overall experience has been good. However, last Sunday i bought a couple of boxes of Indian Halwa (sweets) a box each of Almond halwa and Anjeer halwa. To my utter disgust, the underside of the Anjeer halwa was covered in mould. I tried several times to call the # on the receipt - 704-540-2013 - but was unable to speak with customer service. My call kept rolling back to the voice message. So I sent them an email with pictures of the barfi and my purchase receipt. I have not heard back from them. While i will continue to shop at Patel Brothers, i will definitely take extra care to check their products, especially those in the refrigerated and frozen foods section. read more

I view Patel Brothers as the same-old Indian grocery store, but with a really convenient location. PB is a chain, with distributors all over the country (and world). For this reason, they sometimes have products that are sitting on shelves for months and months. I definitely agree with people that choose this place over Harris Teeter; after all, the vegetable selection is fresher, more affordable, and WAY more diverse. However, this place gets a 3-star rating because of the overall operation and atmosphere of the store. The workers definitely don't enjoy being there, and Farmers Markets (as well as other Indian grocers) offer better prices for fresh produce. In the end, the Pineville location is what redeems this place, and will ensure it being packed on the regular. read more

Very unprofessional and rude shop. They billed me twice for a same item (small amount $9)and when asked to refund they wouldn't believe and made me stand for a long time. Something that any other grocery store chain in the US will do instantly. They absolutely do not make the customer feel trusted. If there is no competition - this is what you get ! I wish some competition to come to this store and hope they learn some professionalism. This (Pineville / Charlotte NC) store advertises closing time of 9pm and closes well before said time. I had run to buy some thai chillies and curry leaves; hoping that I can quickly buy and leave by 9. To my shock, the store had already closed and locked the doors @8:56 pm, when it says the closing time is 9pm on the door itself. To my disbelief, couple of employees who saw us knocking the door bluntly ignored us and shut all the lights at 8:58 pm (again before 9pm). This is so insulting to me as a customer. Store cannot put closure time as 9pm, if they have to close it before 9. Very unprofessional store. read more

I love Patel Brothers! Yes, it's crowded and noisy but that's because it's unbeatable for Indian groceries in Charlotte. My experience has been very different from reviewers that find no customer service. Employees always seek me out to ask, "What are you looking for??" I do need help finding the tamarind paste or the asafetida but I'm likely to wander around for hours before asking for help. It can be an intimidating experience, being a minority for the first time in your life, but don't take it out on the staff. They will be happy to help you if you just ask. The prices are amazing for spices, beans, and anything else you could also buy at Harris Teeter. Go for the prices but stay for the amazing produce, the frozen foods you haven't already eaten 50 times and the aisles full of "what is that?" read more

My friend bought some snacks for me while he was going to Charlotte, since we live 125 miles away, one way. Brough back the snacks , because they had gone rancid in 3 months. when I approached the owner, he advised to take it back. Then while I was shopping, he came back , and told me that the snacks were 12 months old. None of the prepackaged snacks they sell has any sort of dates, manufactured nor expiration dates, or best before use date. He refused flat out. I threw it in the garbage, and that amounted to rough $15. I bought some other snacks, and after driving back home, looked for the dates on Manglori Mix, and the it expires in a month. So, before buying, please check the expiration dates, and they sell old expired products. They have absolute disregard for laws of food and customer services. I am very disappointed with their attitude and customer services. I bought $ 450 worth of products. I would not shop again, except vegetables, if they are fresh. read more

Damn... There was a line of cars snaking down to hwy 51! We parked at Wells Fargo and walked up the hill. It was absolutely mobbed with people. It felt like India without the 16 hour flight. There was a great variety of food available but the line of carts at each register averaged about 20 carts. We decided to return some other time when it was less busy. read more

3.5 stars. Not bad I guess considering there are not many Indian grocers around Charlotte. I decided to go at the worst time, an hour before closing... like every other brown person in Charlotte. We were all thinking the same thing apparently because there was a huge ass line to even get in the parking lot... screewthat and parked in the steakhouse parking next door lol (docked a star) Wow, what a selection! Fresh veggies and fruits! A crazy amount of frozen food. And all the dry spices and snacks you could ask for. This is quite the Indian grocer, I was very impressed. Of course, the time old issue with Indian grocers... expired goods. Its super important, to CHECK EXPIRATION DATES at any Indian grocer. I did find a couple of expired dry goods BUT, this was a significantly smaller amount compared to other Indian grocer.. so, above average! Buyers beware I guess. Based on a recommendation from a friend of mine very knowledgeable in Indian cuisine I went to Patel Bros. and it has been a great place to shop. The selection is vast and even if you don't have a clue on how to prepare one of your favorite dishes there's a great chance they have it in their freezer section. Any Indian spice you can think of is here and the sweets or desserts are here as well. Now the customer service is suspect and if you don't know what you're looking for you may not have anyone to help you. I usually ask the store manager and they are able to assist me. The cashiers don't speak with any sincerity so I don't bother striking up a conversation. Mostly for me it's get in and get out because I have my routine and pretty much know what I'm looking for. The store isn't as clean as I would like it, you find that the floors need mopping or the produce section needs some cleaning sanitizer. So I generally will clean and re clean any produce I get. Patel Bros is worth the trip just as long as you don't set your expectations too high and know exactly what you need. read more

Like Nilay, this is my favorite Indian grocery store in Charlotte as well. I lived in North Charlotte for a number of years before moving to Ballantyne, so was forced to shop at Gandhi and another place in the area. This store is pretty big compared to both North Charlotte Indian stores and has a huge selection of fresh vegetables, frozen foods, masalas, snacks, etc. Love that I can buy crates of juicy mangoes here during the summer months. Cheap too. Oh I should mention this too - the owners seem to be really involved with the day to day activities as well and stay out of the way of customers unless you ask him a question, price quote, etc. Maybe a typical Gujarati owner mentality, but I like an engaged owner like that. read more

I love this store and come all the time but I had a bad experience today when I went to buy paint for Holi. There were some boxes open by the front door with the bags of colors all mixed together but a lot of them were busted. It was like they opened the box and let the public sift through them without checking their condition. Not only did I get paint all over me and my clothes but my cashier informed me that two of the bags I picked were busted so I went to go back and grab replacements. While I was gone the girl bagging who was wearing a very unprofessional "104% tired" gray t-shirt says to the cashier that "I was a stupid little girl for not checking the bags before checkout" in Spanish which the people that I was with overheard. It was a very bad first impression of the store since they had never been before. They will not be back. She was ignorant for not thinking someone would understand her. They spoke back to her informing her not to say that ever again and she didn't say anything else. I don't know why someone like her was working at this store but she deserves to be fired. May now take business somewhere else if these are the kind of people that are hired. It was not my fault that these bags were allowed on the floor in boxes covered completely in Holi paint. this place is amazing. This is my first visit to an indian grocery store and I ended up just walking up and down the isle's for half an hour looking at the amazing array of products. I came here to buy the spices required for a shrimp vindaloo recipe. My indian cooking skills require a lot more work, but I was happy with the spices that I purchased here. I buy Dosa batter which is used to make a gluten free crispy wrap for sandwiches. For most part, the batter is fine. I personally prefer it to be more yeasty. If you have not tried it, it is delicious. You can even make a cheese Quesadilla with the wrap. read more

This Indo-Pak grocery store is one of my favorite grocery store in Charlotte. This location is very easy to get in and out from 485. The store is pretty big compare to other Indian grocery store in the area. They have huge selection of fresh Indian snacks, frozen ready made food, frozen vegetables, huge selection of Indian fresh vegetables and Mangos in summer time. Whenever my mom ask me to get anything from the store, I have to ask the employee to locate that item in the store and every time they walked with me to locate that item for me so their customer service is awesome. Once, I was there to pick up few items during my lunch break and electricity went out in whole Pineville/Ballantyne area. They had back up generators running their check out registers and lights so that people can shop even when lights are out. I didn't expected that from Indian grocery store. read more

Not worth risking your life!! They don't practice hygienic nor safe storage of perishable and frozen foods. I have purchased frozen entrees that have been previously thawed and opened. I really loved this store. I was sitting at lunch and my co-worker shared some great Mother's Recipe Carrot and Chilli Pickle....and it was so so good. She said I had to go to Patel's to get it. So...traveling south...was surprised to see the store as soon as I exited 485. It was in a building once occupied by another store that I loved...Pier 1 imports. The store is so loaded with great fresh items. Lentils,...papad...pickles....and more. This store is absolutely the worst. I'm not being racist at all (considering I'm Indian) but the people don't help at ALL. A lot of them barely know English and have no clue what you are asking. And the carts are just thrown into random parking spaces. They also need to maintain the parking area because one time a family was packing stuff in the car and a 12 year old kid slammed his door into my car and didn't even say anything the parents were right there and let it go. The food is almost always expired and the store is disgusting. I stepped on gum, boogers and it was absolutely horrible. I've seen bags of spices opened just sitting on the shelf. DONT COME HERE. No wonder, patel brothers has so many variety of Indo - Pak asian food products, but quality is really very cheap. I have so mcuh bad experiences, got stone particles in daal, Poha (Flat Rice) was low quality and with so much dirt, and had bad experience with ready to eat food and biscuit and toast which were on sale. Sale products are really such products which you can trash directly. Very very bad experience , but being indian and want to cook indian food so dont have many options :( please suggest if anyone knows better indian grocery place than patel brothers. So happy to find Patel Brothers here. As a devotee of Patel Brothers in NY, I was overjoyed to see a location in my new town. Because I am gluten-free, it can be challenging to find inexpensive gluten-free items. Also, I just love Indian and ethnic food. I get my coconut, sorghum, chickpea, and rice flour from here, as well as various nuts and dried fruits. Spices are inexpensive and can be bought in bulk. I typically do not buy prepared foods, produce, or snacks from here, so cannot comment on the quality of those items. Most of the items I buy are high-turnover staples, so I don't worry too much about time on the shelf. Indian produce can be found at the Charlotte Regional Farmer's Market, so if I need something I usually find it there. Highly recommended :D read more
