Patina is a must visit when you're on the Big Island. It's in Waikoloa Queen's Marketplace. Food is incredible. Mushroom toast was full of umami goodness., The beef tartare with egg yolk jam was so creamy and flavorful, and Im not usually a fan of tartare. A must is the beef cheek with homemade hand cut pappardelle! Nothing like fresh pasta with a yummy sauce. The king salmon had the crispiest skin I've ever had...even after sitting for a bit on the table as we enjoyed the pasta and thick cut tallow fries (another must have) it was crisp and delicious. Service was amazing. Very attentive and proactive (my drinks were never empty) without being over bearing. She recommended the best cocktails and a yummy bottle of red which paired perfectly with our mains. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Reminds me of a downtown Honolulu vibe. I live in Honolulu and am blessed to travel a lot to eat in towns like San Francisco, Los Angeles and Chicago - any Patina holds its own against that foodie scene. Its not fine dining but not super casual...more of an elevated environment where service is top notch, food is fresh and delicious, and cocktails are yummy. Perfect for a random Thursday where you dont feel like cooking, a girls night out or a special occasion. The crowd was a mix of locals and visitors, which is always a good sign. I can't wait to try their chef's table pre fixe experience! I will be back, and often.

I just wanted to share with the community an outstanding experience that I just had at Patina tonight; a new eatery located in the Queen's shops in what I believe to be the old Charlie's Thai space. It is my understanding that they change the menu daily, so I went all out, not wanting to miss the opportunity for a unique experience. I started with the special cocktail, essentially a spicy margarita comprised of local horn melon, triple fresh citrus combo, turbinado simple syrup, reposado tequila, lemon drop pepper, egg whites, kefir lime leaf and preserved tangerine garnish. Top notch! Excellent mixology & presentation. Up first was bartender's(Colter) starter recommendation of the beef tartare served with bone marrow aioli, egg yolk jam & crostinis. Savory & delectable. Against my better judgment, I added a mid course of the "localvore" salad. Think caesar salad, but better. Main entrée featured the flat iron steak entree. At this point I'm pretty stuffed, but I'm on a mission now lol. I paired it with a bottle of Orin Swift's 8 Years In The Desert. Corked and took remainder home, of course. I finished up the night with the homemade lemon bar. For research, obviously haha. It was tart and satisfying. All in all, this was an extremely satisfying culinary experience. I'm so happy to see such a unique, modern, chic and locally owned option as a local eatery. Highly recommend. Bravo, Patina! Five stars all around from ambience to service to food. Can't wait to join you again soon!

We decided to give Patina in Waikoloa a try after seeing the buzz and glowing hype on Instagram. As a brand-new spot (only 5 days open), we expected a few growing pains--but wanted to experience what the chef and team are bringing to the island. The evening started with a 40-minute wait, which set the tone a bit. The menu was understandably limited given how new they are. Cocktails were okay--nothing memorable. My husband ordered the Bold Fashioned but was mistakenly served what tasted like a simple amaretto sour on ice. I asked for a lemon wedge for my water because it tasted warm and murky... unfortunately, the lemon never made it to the table. One thing we couldn't help but notice was that the chef personally paid attention to and checked in on every table around us--except ours, which felt a little discouraging, especially given the issues we experienced throughout the meal. Now, the appetizers--this is where Patina truly shined. The fries and kampachi sashimi were so delicious that we both agreed we could've happily ordered them again as our main courses. That said, seeing the kampachi sashimi served on the same plates being cleared from dinner tables was aesthetically disappointing and took away from how beautiful the dish could've been. For entrées, my husband ordered the oxtail and gnocchi. It needed more seasoning--honestly, even just salt and pepper would've helped. The gnocchi was mushy, and to make matters more noticeable, another guest at a nearby table received a bowl filled to the brim, while his was barely halfway full. My Jidori chicken arrived cold. Two chicken breasts over thick dry mashed polenta just didn't land--and I'll be honest, I would've been far more satisfied with a Kirkland rotisserie chicken. The braised leeks were overcooked, stringy, and got stuck in my teeth. They were so difficult to break down that I ended up having to swallow them whole. The atmosphere itself was nice and inviting, but the bar felt underwhelming--only four bottles of liquor visible. As a restaurant branding itself as a gastropub, it currently misses the mark on what that means: curated cocktails, craft beer, a thoughtful wine list, burgers, and true comfort food. That said--Patina has potential. I genuinely want to see it succeed. More local artisans and chefs deserve recognition, and it would be incredible to see thoughtfully executed local restaurants outshine chain establishments. We plan to give Patina some time to grow, refine, and take in feedback beyond their immediate circle. Respectfully, I still encourage folks to experience what the chef and team are bringing to our island--and I'm hopeful Patina will truly come into its own in the months ahead.

Pros: The food was delicious--the chef is truly incredible! The space itself is beautiful, and the staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating, especially when it comes to adjusting dishes to meet their patrons' needs. Cons: The dining room is very loud. Because the walls echo and the background music is set at a high volume, guests have to shout to be heard. This creates a cycle of noise that makes conversation nearly impossible; our party eventually gave up on talking and just focused on the food. Additionally, the restaurant uses scented detergents on their cloth napkins. As someone with a severe allergy to synthetic scents, I experienced an immediate headache and eye twitch as soon as I used mine. It is unfortunately not a safe environment for those with scent sensitivities. Conclusion: I would definitely recommend this spot to anyone who loves creative small plates! The mixologist was also excellent. However, I personally won't be able to return unless they switch to unscented cleaning products and detergents. I truly hope this place succeeds, as it's wonderful to see such a vibrant spot open up!

We enjoyed every sip, every bite @patina.hawaii and can't wait to go back. The care put into each detail from ambiance, decor, service, and style was evident throughout. We had tallow fries ( a must! ), oxtail gnocchi, Kauai shrimp, the chicken (super moist) the Lyonnaise salad and a crudo that brought us to our knees (not shown). Cocktails were on point. Located in the Queens Marketplace, this new posh restaurant will be on our list of fav spots for date night or a night out with friends!!

So happy to have a brand new spot that we're excited about! Had dinner at Patina last night and had a delicious steak, complemented by a really yummy vegetable and thick cut fries, cooked in beef tallow. Plus a special sauce for dipping. It was delicious and the people are very friendly. I'm sure they're going to do very well there! We will definitely go back!

The BEST and freshest food on island! Each bite and sip was an experience! Easily the most memorable dining experience and biggest culinary surprise on island. Their drink menu is different, interesting, and delightful. Their service was top notch. Chef Keith and staff surpassed all expectations. The ambiance is elegant, intimate, and high touch. We are so excited to share this hidden gem with our local friends and visitors!

Last night we had dinner at the new gastropub in the Queens Shops Patina. There were six of us, all willing to eat family style so we could sample a lot of the menu, which changes often as Chef Keith sources his local ingredients. It is small but not noisy, the decor feels upscale. The cocktail/mocktail menu was fun, interesting and tasty. The wine was great but the highlight hands down is the food. The hibachi grilled Ahi chimmichurri was the best ahi I ever ate and I live in a fishing village. We ordered 4 of the 6 appetizers and 6 of the 7 entrees and couldn't stop eating everything was so good. I would suggest a reservation, we had one and the place filled up shortly after we got there. Lucky to have such a gem at Waikoloa Beach. Bon appetit!

It gives the entire visit a truly authentic, exclusive feel. What truly elevated the entire experience from great to unforgettable, though, was our tour guide, Dave. Whether you know him as "Dave the coffee man," "the man," "Dave the heavy pour guy," or "the Costco rotisserie 4.99," he is hands-down the best tour guide ever. 6.22.26 UPDATE We…read moreoriginally had a disappointing experience due to slow service, limited attention from staff, and the lack of air conditioning during our visit. However, the owner took the time to respond and explain that the entire shopping center wing was experiencing cooling issues and that the restaurant was dealing with significant staffing shortages at the time. While that doesn't completely change the experience we had, I appreciate that the owner acknowledged the challenges and responded professionally rather than dismissing the feedback. One observation I would offer is that, as a customer, it was difficult to tell who was serving tables. I noticed several employees in Pint & Cork shirts moving around the restaurant, but only saw a couple of servers actively covering the dining area. It's possible some staff were assigned to bartending or other responsibilities, but from the guest perspective it gave the impression that table service was understaffed while other employees appeared unavailable. I still think there is room for improvement in the flow and logistics on the floor, but I appreciate the owner's willingness to engage with feedback and explain the circumstances. That being said, I would be willing to give the restaurant another chance. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATED REVIEW AFTER OWNER'S RESPONSE: 6.21.26 I appreciate the response. It's telling that you addressed the air conditioning, disputed the gender of an employee, and questioned whether I was even there, yet didn't meaningfully respond to the concerns about service, timing, attentiveness, or food quality. If a customer leaves with a poor experience, the question isn't whether they perfectly recalled every detail. The question is why they left with that impression in the first place. I suspect future readers can draw their own conclusions from both the review and the response. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Probably the most disappointing dining experience of our Hawaii trip. We specifically asked to sit indoors because we wanted a break from the Maui heat after spending the day outside. Unfortunately, we quickly realized there was no air conditioning, making the indoor seating barely any cooler than outside. The restaurant also felt severely understaffed. It took around 10 minutes just to get a Diet Coke, and every time I asked for assistance, the woman working at the register seemed to defer the request rather than help or find someone who could. Meanwhile, some employees appeared more interested in chatting than helping customers, while only one or two staff members seemed to be working the floor. I understand restaurants get busy, especially in a tourist area, but the issue wasn't just the wait--it was the feeling that customer service wasn't a priority. As for the food, it was nothing special. I ordered a steak that had a nice smoky flavor, but it arrived well done and overcooked. The rest of the meal was average at best and definitely not memorable enough to make up for the service issues. Between the lack of air conditioning, slow service, inattentive staff, and mediocre food, this was one of the few places in Hawaii where I genuinely regretted spending my money. Considering the location at The Shops at Wailea and the prices being charged, I expected a much higher level of hospitality and execution. There are far too many great dining options in Wailea to come back here.
