Wow, the pastries are amazing and so beautiful and painstakingly put together. We had a curry bun, Caramel custard, the peanut butter chocolate bar, and macadamia carrot cake. All were amazing. As an example of how carefully these are crafted, the peanut butter bar had a crunchy crust lightly topped with a thin, creamy peanut butter layer, topped by a lighter, almost mousse like peanut butter layer and then a chocolate ganache. We got there at 9:30 am on a Friday and they were fully stocked. We tried again on Saturday at 1:00 and they were already closed because they sold out, so go early. read more

Cute little bakery with lots of pastries, sweets, and drinks. We got there on a Thursday morning and there was a line out the door. It moves pretty quick but the parties ahead had quite big orders. They do take the pastries from the back so everything on the display case sits there (most likely until the end of the day when they don't have any more in the back). Carrot cake: 10/10 perfectly moist and not too much cream cheese frosting so it tasted pretty equal Chocolate pb crunch bar: 10/10 not my personal fav but my bf loved it since it was decadent. There wasn't too much of a heavy pb flavor so that was good. My family and I stopped at the store to grab waters and snacks. My mother and I love baked items and cute little stores so we stopped by. It is a cute little store that does get busy. This review is why. We bought two cakes, two mousses and two savory breads. I bought the ladybug because I thought it was cute and I do love raspberry. We go to the car, I am so excited to dig in. I grab the ladybug, and take a bite. Wow that was so good. I kept eating it and each bite got better and better. The chocolate mousse surrounds a delicious raspberry middle that has BLUEBERRIES INSIDE! Absolutely divine. There is hardened chocolate to make the design and the crunch adds to the deliciousness. Every bite was delicious and the worst part was when I finished the lady bug I had no more left:(. The raspberry lingered in my mouth and I got to have the delicious taste in my mouth. I wish I bought more. This was so good and if you like raspberry, this will brighten your day like it did mine. I hope anytime I am in the area they are stocked because this is a delightful light treat that fills you up with yummy goodness!! We got the lilikoi and coconut cake. So delicious!! We also got the mango lilikoi mousse round which I believe was the last one! Such a delicious flavor and the cookie on the bottom was perfection. I've been to this amazing island a number of times before, but this was my first time ever in this particular bakery. Sad to say, I have a number of food, allergies, and I'm always scared to risk it, but I have heard so many good things about this particular bakery I just had to have a cheat day!! The service was great, and I was surprised there wasn't the line out the door, but as my family and I walked in at least six other people walked in behind us!! I ordered a number of pastries, I was shocked to see the pastry chef or cashier. Take those items from a back countertop and leave the current ones in their display case! I guess they wait until they're out of everything off of their shelves/backstock before they serve what's actually in the pastry case?! Fine by me because we came early enough, 12 PM/lunchtime to get anything at this particular place as my dad told me they were sold out before 1 PM and shut down early!! We wholeheartedly believe that Patisserie Nanako is the best bakery on the Big Island. Our love story with their cakes & pastries began last year when we were on the island for wedding planning, and my sister - who is a HUGE fan of the bakery - insisted we give them a try. From the very first bite, we were totally blown away. We tried a variety of their cakes, and they were all equally delicious - moist, perfectly balanced, and not too sweet. When our wedding reception arrived in April 2025, Patisserie Nanako created not just one, but four cakes for us: coconut, tiramisu, lilikoi, and strawberry. Every single one was a hit! Our guests couldn't stop raving about how delicious the cakes were, and many of them kept asking where we got them. Wish they would better plan and produce more of each item. I visited on a Friday at 1:00 PM, when in the area, and my choices were limited to mini quiches, creme caramel in a cup, or packaged biscotto cookies. I don't understand the practice "until sold out" and making the minimum so customers who come in mid day have such a limited selection. We came here after hearing from multiple people about the pastries and Japanese cheesecake. The first time we came, they were closed because they sold out of everything. So we came back a couple days later first thing in the morning. We got a variety of pastries but the coconut cake stood out. It was very light but very flavorful. Custard pan is such a childhood classic for me, so when I tried their take (it's called cream pan here) my eyes welled up with happy tears. My Grandpa used to buy me a custard pan from Times to eat afterschool before I went to Japanese school. I'm originally from O'ahu and not having access to Japanese bakeries is something I really miss. The bread is so pillowy and there is just enough custard inside. I love putting it in the fridge to really chill the custard. The pastry never gets soggy either. Try it the next time you go! :) read more

I ordered the An Pan and the Japanese Curry Bread. Unfortunately, I ate the An Pan before taking the picture, but it was good. The bread was soft and the An sweet. It was a great combination. And the Japanese curry bread was filling with a good balance of curry. I was glad that it wasn't overwhelming and it was light that it matched the type of bread it was wrapped around. By the time we got there, everything was sold out. =( Well, today is my birthday and we drove to Waimea for lunch to celebrate. Before we did that, we stopped by the bakery. There was a line out the door and people started lining up. And there was still some goodies available. Yay! I was so HAPPY. =) I got a bag of raspberry cookies, ladybug raspberry mousse (so cute) and a melon pan bread. My husband got a chocolate peanut butter crunch bar and cream of pan bread. We've heard so much about Patisserie Nanako, a couple of years ago, but didn't get a chance to go because we heard we need to get there early or they'll run out. This time we made it a point to get there by 8:30am, and we were a group of 12. One thing we noticed-everyone left with a cake box of something, that was a good sign, also a bad one. Good because a lot of people like their pastries and bread. The bad? A lot of people like their pastries and bread... Fortunately, there was plenty for us to choose from. Cream pastries looked so good, but like martinis in the morning, not too good for breakfast ( but the willpower almost gave in). One in our party went for the lemon tart, a beautiful orb of lemony goodness. We went for the vanilla and chocolate tarts, the curry pan, the cheese pan, and the apple turnover. Others went to the jalapeño ham pan, coconut cream cake. We discovered that their sweet treats are not cloyingly sweet, the delicate hand is part of the allure of Japanese bakeries. Flavors are bold when they need to be- the curry pan was very tasty, the aroma of the curry was loud, could have been better if the bun was warmed up ( ask to heat up all bread pans, they are happy to do it). The breads are soft and chewy, fillings aren't over the top and messy. Each bite is filling filled, so you're not just eating bread in one bite, filling in another. Service is very pleasant, always with a smile. I now understand why literally everyone walks out with a cake box, we walked out with six in our party. There are times when you want something local, but from somewhere far away. Malasadas are good, Haupia pancakes are good, but sometimes a chocolate cream puff fills a need, especially when the creams are decadent and the puff is delicately scrumptious. So many of the items suggested to us to buy were sold out.
