    The PURPLE PIG
    Sterling M.

Good lawd! I was sad and happy all at once eating The Purple Pig. Happy I was eating such a delicious and creative sandwich. Sad that I had to share it with my wife. And sad when I took my last bite because it was all gone. The Purple Taro bread was fun, creative and delicious. The Kalua pig was tender, flavorful and cooked perfectly. The staff were friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this food truck!

Made a detour heading to Kona and stopped at the Waimea Farmers Market. Lots of choices, but ended up sharing a couple dishes from the trucks. Found Red Barn and had a hard time deciding between the Frenchman and the Beast Nachos. Since we were sharing, we went with the Nachos. They did not disappoint. Chips (purple sweet potato) were loaded with kalua pig, melted cheese-which I am pretty sure they melted on the griddle, then scooped and placed on the cheese, sour cream, avo and tomato. It was a lot of food for $15. Chips stayed crunchy from the first bite to the last. Can't wait to try a special grilled cheese next time I am in Waimea.

Sizzling Serrano sandwich w/ pickle and potato chips

I had the sizzling Serrano sandwich, which was fantastic with a balance mix of sweet, sour and savory flavors. The creamy cheese gives it a velvety luxe texture like a million bucks. Despite the chiles, the sandwich is not spicy, with just a hint of heat. Cucumber pickle was on the sweet Asian pickling profile, reminding me of my mom's recipe. There are a few (I.e. limited number so plan on waiting for a bit) picnic tables at the farmers market to enjoy your score and watch local and tourist alike mingle at the stalls.

The food is amazing and the price point is fantastic. However, since we have some family members with lots of food allergy issues (gluten free, dairy free), they were able to find the right thing for all of us. That was truly an incredible, thoughtful feat and we will absolutely be back next time we are in Hawaii. Service was great and they set great expectations since there were a lot of people ahead of us. Also the farmers market ambience was very relaxed and enjoyable.

An excellent Ruben sandwich. Had a hard time finding the location, but happy that I did. So don't give up. Finally found it on a farmers market, and not where Google Maps said that they would be. I had a side of tomato soup, but would skip next time as the sandwich is big enough. If you are a Ruben fan, make sure to check the Red Barn out.

Red Barn serves up delicious sandwiches made with locally sourced goods from the Kamuela Farmer's Market on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Grab a plate, enjoy the rolling green pastures and the Kohala mountains in the distance and mingle with the locals and tourists, alike. Our kids scarfed down the "Cheesy" grilled cheese and tomato soup. We enjoyed the "Frenchman" mushroom, carmelized onions with truffle oil sandwich, the "Swine" pulled pork sliders, and the "Beast" loaded nachos. The portions are generous and the quality of ingredients top notch. We made two stops during our recent stay and got to chat with Will and April on the second visit as they closed up shop. They are real good people and produce a wonderful product.

Excellent food truck in northern Hawaii! We had added this on the trip specifically because of the positive yelp reviews. Definitely one for the books.

The Frenchman is an amazing sandwich--shrooms, Gruyère, French onion and truffle salt. Getting hungry thinking about it.

All the other menu items "looked" good and I ordered a coconut fruit water thinking it would be absolutely loaded with fruits but....it was extremely underwhelming. I think if you're gonna use AI generated photos you should at least make the actual product you hand paying customers, look like the photo. I got a huge cup of coconut water with 3 slices of kiwi, some blueberries and a couple slices of strawberry(she told me it would have pineapple but it didn't which was ironic because right across the malasada truck there's always the people selling fresh pineapple). The Dubai chocolate strawberry cup I tried on a different occasion was delicious but honestly that's an item that isn't complicated to make so I wasn't surprised. I also wanted an Açaí bowl but sadly they didn't have that available so I can't say much. Y'all should ditch the fancy drinks. Just sell water and canned juice along side with the real money makers, the MALASADAS. Also ditch the AI menu because at this point it's just false advertising for the photos to look so perfect and the product so underwhelming.

It seemed fine until we realized they were slipping on the service. My uncle didn't get his tossed salad with his tripe stew but no biggie, and my son's kids meal that was only pancake, bacon, and an egg was the last to get to the table. Everyone was eating and trying to share their food with my hungry son who was in tears after waiting another 30 minutes for his food. They were very apologetic and our server (like everyone there) was SUPER sweet, and even brought him extra bacon for the inconvenience. I could see there were regulars in there who were getting better attention than us, it happens, which was kind of a disappointment in the service area. The large table sat after us all had their food rolling out the kitchen as soon as they ordered. The food was still great, very homey, and delicious as always. The place was nice and breezy due to a storm coming in soon. All in all a great place to come eat, just come earlier I guess so all the good stuff doesn't get 86'd before you get there...my uncle was looking forward to the lamb ribs but there's always next time and for this place, there's always a next time!!! She got great food from Red Barn truck and I got these slow death pieces of bone, any one would cut your esophagus to the quick , you would be dead before the medics got to you. How can this be an accident? Four sharp bones in one small laulau? One piece, maybe they overlooked it. Two,pieces ? I can't see anyone being that careless. Three pieces? Sounds like malicious intent, Four pieces, including that big one with sharpened spear tips, sounds intentional and very deadly. They made it right there and served it up to us! Sounds like the Hawaii states attorney should look into their history. The health Dept? Food and beverage? Nah! The district attorney, possibly. If I feel like letting someone else deal with it. A very cleaver way of having another Haole die from an 'accidental' bone? Not these four bones, too much overkill! Take your life, and the lives of your loved ones far away from this very questionable food truck. Hopefully we don't see them on Lopaka Kapanui's scary Hawaii show.
