Came on a weekday in the afternoon and got 6 malasadas. Service was quick and it's off the side of the road. I think I made the mistake of waiting until hours later to eat it. The dough got a bit dense but overall the flavor was good. I definitely should have eaten then fresh but if I'm back I'll try again!
WOWWW! This Malasada was the perfect treat on the way to the beach! We could not have been more satisfied with the texture and flavor of these warm yummy goodies! BONUS! We also got to grab some masubi's!! The guy was super helpful when picking out the top sellers! His friendly personality made our experience even more enjoyable! The convenience of it being off the main road was great!
Stopped by the first time around 4pm, and they were completely sold out. Stopped by the 2nd time around 2:30pm, and they were still in business. Minimum order is 3 malasadas. We ordered the Dubai chocolate, guava, and banana cream fillings. They were made fresh. It does take awhile to place the order and also get your order served for this reason. It's a food truck too, so need to be patient. They are located right off the highway, and some other food trucks are there too. The banana cream and guava fillings tasted more artificial. The malasadas weren't out of this world. I've had better. Good service though.
After a fun day exploring the island but frustrating day trying to get food including Malasadas - we decided to try this food truck having passed it by for years! Be prepared for a wait - it was probably near 30 minutes from waiting to order to waiting for our food but it is made fresh to order and you can customize flavors and toppings. The Malasadas are delicious - warm and fresh! The fillings for me were hit or miss - some like S'mores tasted lovely with marshmallows and what I assume was a Nutella filling but others, especially local flavors like Lilikoi tasted very artificial and overly sweet and anything with coconut in it turned to liquid like a coconut oil! Glad I tried them - fresh, warm and hit and miss on fillings
Hidden gem on the big Island! This famous malasadas truck did not disappoint. Freshly made malasadas with so many different options to choose from. They do have peanuts but they do take care of cross contamination for those with nut allergies. Team is so friendly and accommodating. There was a long line for orders which shows how good this place is. Malasadas were huge compared to the normal size you would get at other places. 3 for $11 we went with sugar coated ones and they were SO good. Perfectly cooked where you couldn't taste raw dough. You can go behind the food truck and pick your order and eat your malasadas. Better to eat outside than inside your car with all the sugar from the donuts dropping everywhere. Definitely a must then on the big island. I believe they have few trucks spread across the island.
Had to stop by this malasada food truck in this area. Got there at 9 in the morning on Wednesday and it wasn't busy at all. They take Apple Pay which is super convenient! We got three special filling malasadas which were around $16-17. Super yummy and fit the spot for my sweet tooth! The cookie butter filling was super rich and decadent and lilikoi flavor was a nice fruity balance. Definitely stop by if you are in the area!
Delicious malasadas! Best to eat fresh! No additive flavors, tasted like real fruit. Fluffy donut-like malasadas full of flavor in each bite. They have so many flavors available. Out of the ones we ordered, my favorite was the Haupia and my husband's was the Ube. GPS will ask you to loop around to get here, but we were able to just pull in right next to the stand on a Saturday early afternoon. Overall, we recommend!

Absolutely delicious Malasadas. We got 6 not stuffed and 6 stuffed and they were so so good. We waited about 20 minutes for them. The line was long but it was worth it. They were off one of the main roads on the west side of the island. There was also a coffee truck there too!
These are THE BEST! Theres so many flavors it's hard to choose just one so anytime we drive out Waimea way we stop by and pick up a pack of 6 I haven't had a flavor I didn't enjoy but so far I tend to get half chocolate/ half fruit and my go to's are s'mores or Dubai chocolate, and lilikoi They can be a lil messy so have some napkins prepared as there's no proper benches/ outdoor seating to eat you'll be eating in your car or taking them home if you can resist ;)

Pros: They are cooked fresh to order They are locally owned Best hot donut I've ever had light and fluffy inside and the perfect crunch on the outside. Cons: Making them from scratch takes time (worth it IMO) 15-20 an order depending on size They have no shade set up and they are located in a barren dirt field. Price is a tad high I recommend getting a half plain half stuffed mixed dozen.
Little roadside establishment where malasadas are made fresh. Got three: 2 filled with mango and 1 filled with haupai. They were out in a few minutes and were crisp, fluffy pastry that paired well with the fruity flavors. Just wished they were filled a bit more since some bites were just dough. They're not cheap by any means but good to dip your toes into a bunch of different flavors. Also got their banana bread which was so moist and yum!!!
Six stars if it were possible. Freshly made oer order and Hot and drooling yummy!!! each filled generously with raspberry jam, coconut cream and bavarian cream dipped in sugar... there was a choice of many more fillings. Little food truck. They take card and cash. Lots of fillings to choose from. We ordered 3 filled, and it was $15. They come out hot and ready. They were tasty, just on the denser side, not the light, fluffy, and airy side. There are no tables, so it's more of a grab and go. The area is not paved. The truck is on the side of the street. Easy to find roadside stand with plenty of dirt parking on a weekday morning. It's a grab and go spot w/ limited shade available. The malasadas are made fresh to order, so expect a wait (it took about 20 minutes with a few parties ahead of us). There's a 3-piece minimum for $11 and an extra $1.50/2 for each filling. We wanted to try the ube malasadas but they weren't available. The standouts here are definitely the unfilled malasadas. The Original with Cinnamon Sugar was amazing--hot, fresh, and the dough beats other malasadas on the island. Skip the Ube Cheesecake filling. It had no ube flavor and a bizarrely strong, alcohol-like aftertaste (maybe too much vanilla extract?) that made it hard to finish. The Li Hing with Guava was okay, but the filling leaned a bit artificial. read more

We stop by every time we visit the island. For one, it's convenient and right off the highway. The flavors are great but I usually just get the basic Bavarian crème. They make it where you have to purchase 3, so you will have to pay the high price. Prices have gone up the last few years. Their malasadas are good but I don't feel it's worth the price. Roadside food truck with made to order malasadas. Add $1.75 for about a tablespoon of filling. The dough was pretty dense, so eat them while they're hot. The fillings were overly sweet (lilikoi & haupia) and lacked the actual flavor of the fruit. Really bummed about that! We really like the li hung mui best (salty & sweet). Cold brew was great! If we went back, it would only be for the li hung + a cold brew. read more
Best malasadas I've ever had in my life! We tried the regular sugar rolled, crème brûlée filled (incredible, it reminded me of a fresh cinnamon roll), and ordered a guava-filled one--but sadly, it came out empty. Still, they were piping hot, super fresh, and absolutely worth the stop. Just turn right as you leave Hāpuna Beach--Manuela's is about five minutes down the road on the right! read more

The best Malasadas in Hawaii. We stopped by here on our last day in Kona. The flavored packed Malasadas were so fluffy and hot. Not too big, which i prefer over too much dough. We went with a 12 piece order with a variety of different flavors. The owners of the franchise were so nice and friendly. I saw that they have multiple locations in Hawaii and on the main land. Next time i find one im definitely stopping by. read more
Best Malasadas on the Island, as soon as we land and leave the airport we head to this amazing family run mobile business before checking into our location. They offer a variety of fillings and other Island delights but the originals are our favorites. We are eating them as we are entering the highway. Delicious treats! I got three malasadas, all coated in Li Hing and filled with either ube, lilikoi, and haupia. The slight sourness of the Li Hing was perfect with the sweet filings. They're like large donut holes, but not as big as a full-sized donut, which is good because I was worried about eating 3 full sized donuts. The lady running the stand was a bit worried because she got hit with a rush all of a sudden, but I only waited about 10 minutes. Heck, I rented a car from the airport during a layover just to eat these malasadas. She could've slapped me with one and I would've asked what flavor it was. read more

Incredible and freshly made. If you see this stand open just go ahead and stop by. Cross it off the list. Server was very kind and recommended the ling min(?) powder coat for the mango malasada and that's ALL I CAN THINK ABOUT. cool place on the side of the road with a good beach behind it. read more

These are advertised as "world-famous" malasadas, which makes this experience even more disappointing. I waited in line and paid premium prices for what ended up being dense, heavy dough with almost no filling at all. Charging an extra $1.75 for filling and then giving maybe a teaspoon is honestly insulting. Look at the photos, they're basically empty. It's all dough and no filling. This feels like a straight up ripoff. I regret wasting my time and money here. I will never come back, and I strongly recommend skipping this place entirely. read more

Hot sugary perfection! This is my favorite malasada place in Hawaii- just a little truck on the side of the highway. They have so many different ways to customize from the sugar type to the filling. My personal favorites are the Ube and Lilikoi. The Ube is not too sweet, and honestly so flavorful. Probably one of my favorite bites from my entire Hawaii trip. It can take a bit for them to make them (~10 min wait for me), especially if they're busy, but I promise it's worth it! No seating, but just eat them outside while they're hot! read more

Had so much fun ordering malasadas and waiting to eat them hot off the truck. We tried Guava, Lilikoi, Nutella, Haupia & Peach/Pineapple. They were all amazing. They were ready super fast and the owner is so friendly. The goats wandering around in the field behind the truck were very fun to watch. We enjoyed seeing the mothers & kids. Also the roadside jam/fruit stand was very nice too. read more

The best malasadas I have ever had! You must try these! Better than Leonards! They come out hot and perfect with a slightly crisp exterior and a pillowy interior. The dough itself is flavorful and moist- less bready than Leonards and closer in texture to a yeast donut which I prefer. I feel like Leonard's malasadas need a filling or at the very least a sugar coating for some flavor. However, these are phenomenal on their own, just the dough. I don't know what they put in these, but they are incredible. We tried the the guava cream cheese, lilikoi, chocolate, banana all with the sugar coating and a coconut and ube without a coating. My favorite was guava cream cheese followed by ube, lilikoi, coconut, chocolate, and then banana. All of them were great though, you really can't go wrong. The coconut, lilikoi, and chocolate fillings were a bit liquidy though. The ube, banana, and guava cream cheese kept a firmer custardy consistency. The liquidy fillings made the malasadas a bit messier to eat, but didn't take away from the flavor or even texture in my opinion. There was a short line and our malasadas came out ~15 minutes after ordering. There is a banana bread stand in the same parking lot which you can sample. There were also goats on the volcanic rock across the road which were fun to watch while waiting. Overall, I highly recommend Manuela's Malasadas! I will definitely be returning! read more

WARNING: These malasadas may ruin all other donuts for you. Pulled up to Manuela's Malasada Truck thinking I'd grab one malasada and be on my merry way. Ha. Cute idea. Fast forward 15 minutes and I'm sitting in my car like a sugar-dusted gremlin with cinnamon all over my shirt and no regrets in sight. These malasadas are made fresh to order, which means they come out hot, fluffy, and slightly dangerous like if a cloud and a hug had a baby. You pick your filling (so many good ones, from classic custard to chocolate or lilikoi), then coat it in your choice of sugar, cinnamon, powdered sugar, or li hing. I said yes to all of them. Twice. The truck itself is easy to spot, and the folks inside are super friendly probably because they know they're slinging pure happiness out the window. Pricing is fair (see photos, because math is hard when you're drooling), and the portions are generous. Pro tip: Don't wear black unless you enjoy the powdered sugar polka dot look. Also, bring napkins. And maybe a friend. Or don't -- more for you. Bottom line: If you're on the Big Island and don't stop here, are you even living? Manuela's is a local treasure and your tastebuds deserve this level of joy. read more

Not really an ambiance to talk about since it's a food truck. The service is top notch!! We arrived twice and they were sold out both times. The wonderful lady behind the counter took my order and let me pick a time to come back and guaranteed they would have them and they did! Best Malasada we have had on the island and we tried a couple. This has the perfect bread to filling ratio. read more

I recommend this if you must have maladadas. They're crunchy on the outside but the dough is really heavy and is more like a heavy doughnut. The filling was very skimpy. We ordered a plain. a haupia filled and a to lilikoi filled. We could not really taste the filling. They were definitely not better than Leonard's on Oahu. read more
The Haupia filled malasada is like heaven on Earth!!!! I highly recommend it! The wife got the peanut butter filled but I just thought that one was OK. My 2nd choice was a non-filled version with the li hing powder on the outside. It was also tasty! If you are rolling past on the Queen Ka'ahumanu Hwy, do yourself a favor and stop!!! read more

We arrived at 9:15 this morning, there was nobody in line, but we did see a few parties waiting for their order. We stood outside the window and waited... 30 minutes went by. A line of 20+ people formed behind us. After a while, the party behind us asked "did you guys place a really complicated order?" I laughed and said "no we haven't even ordered yet!" A few minutes later, they decided to leave. We did see two parties waiting to the side who finally got their food and took it away. We finally gave up at 10:00 after just standing in the sun for 45 minutes. The employees in the truck never acknowledged us once. A simple "hey sorry for the wait, we're dealing with..." would have been sufficient just to let us know what was happening and whether we should keep waiting. On the bright side, we did have ample time to look at the menu and decide what we wanted to try! Too bad we never got to try anything though. read more
