Walking down Market street the vibe of downtown San Francisco is a blend of vintage and modern with a mix of the future. Walking past the See's Candies and The Paris Baguette and inside Patrick & Co., you will see lots of office supplies . I bought a Cross pen here and within a couple of weeks, the clip fell off. I only used it to clip the pen to the inside breast pocket of my blazer, which I consider normal use. I mean, that's what it's for, right? For $100, I expect a pen to last longer than that before falling apart. They really, truly don't make 'em like they used to. I didn't actually have a receipt, but I did have the credit transaction in the app on my phone. And the employee at the register replaced the pen, just like that. In and out in five minutes. Excellent customer service! I unfortunately failed to ask the gentleman's name, but it was around 10 am on a Friday. I love this place, and I hope they never go under. read more

There's very few of these types of office supplies stores left in the U.S.. I love one when I see one and always go in because they usually have items that are difficult to find nowadays. Plus, they typically have unique gift items and they overall have a feeling of times when people were people. This particular Patrick & Co. location was an absolute treat to browse through. Items that took us down memory lane. Gifts for people in our lives. And organizational tools that we didn't know we needed until we came upon them. Prices might be higher than a big box store but not overly expensive. Some of the merchandise was priced in-line with what I've seen elsewhere. It was a delightful time strolling through the aisles. If we lived in San Francisco, and nearby, I'd be a regular customer. read more

Nice to see that stationery stores still exist, with some love to fountain pens and elegant letter-writing supplies like envelopes and papers. Actually, I've noticed that SF seems to have a *lot* of mailboxes. Is that the case, or have I just been out of a city for so long that I forgot how commonplace they are? I did purchase some stationery for letter-writing, and an emergency bottle of fountain pen ink. Not cheap, but love that you can browse the aisles and see stuff in front of you, instead of in front of a screen. It shows signs of aging inside (part of the charm, imo), but please support places like this whenever you can. Someday when it's all gone, it'll be too late. Just wait, you'll see. read more

Patrick & Co. is SF treasure. It has an old-school vibe. They are the last independantly owned office supply store offering a wide array of goods, including custom rubber stamps. The greeting card selection is huge, varied and original - no Hallmark here! Loads of pens to choose from. Prices are fair, the staff helpful and friendly. They know where everything is. I just wanted to say that I have been a Notary Public for many years. The rubber stamp can be a problem in this business. I bought my last one from Patrick and Company. I ended up having a problem getting it re-inked. I complained to them about it and brought it down to them. The very nice people that work there replaced it free of charge. Shoes. 3. Unmentionables. 4. Pens. Yesterday before my Important Meeting I realized that I was without my pen. I popped into the Galleria, but all they had was Mont Blanc and while I dig the MB I wasn't up for being relieved of that large a coin. They directed me to Patrick, just down the block. When I entered I was greeted with that lovely smell I enjoy so much. Smells for me tie memories. Something nice must have happened to me in a stationary store, for whenever I visit, I smile. Patrick is old school stationary. Narrow aisles packed with more variety than you'd expect could squeeze in such a small space. I did a lap before heading to Pens just to see, for future reference, what filled the nooks and the crannies. What I saw was what I expected I'd desire, should I find myself before an Important Meeting short a pad, or a marker, or something for a colorful presentation. Two glass cases filled with the pens. Quality writing instruments, reasonable cross-section of selection, reasonable priced. I got me a well-balanced instrument made of metal reptile skin. Pleasant helpful staff. Disappointed. One of staff was nice in helping find a blank journal however while walking around, some white guy was following me and staring. I can't know if it was because I'm young or because I'm brown but either way being followed in a store as a woman feels hella messed up. And I know it's sus because he only gave up the pursuit when I was headed to the cash register. I gave the items back and let them know what's up. I will not be shopping there. Stepping into Patrick's is like stepping back to 1972. I swear, it feels exactly like the stores my mom used to drag me to when I was a kid. Patrick's may run slightly higher in price than, say, Staples, but it feels good to support such a long-running business. They've been there for me through all kinds of workplace emergencies when I've needed fancy paper, 3-ring binders, nametags, place cards, labels, rubber stamps, dry-erase board markers, folders, whatever. Don't let the store's "retro" interior fool you...they've got all the latest things. You'll also find wrapping paper and greeting cards, so skip Walgreens and come here for that. They're great for back-to-school supplies, too. Today I picked up a mini stapler, 2000 staples, 6 erasers, a dozen colored pencils, another dozen graphite pencils and a two-size sharpener for $16 plus tax. Works for me! One time I placed a custom order, and it was ready in less than a day. I was super impressed. Recently I was searching for a specific kind of marker and remembered this place - I had glanced around briefly during my first visit, why not see if they have markers? I am SO glad I came back to browse further. This place is like Christmas morning for art supply nerds. I love the selection and am confident they'll have everything I need for the various projects I'm bound to find myself in. Wow...I thought it would a good gesture to start shopping at a local store vs Amazon. I been here a few others times during the pandemic. I am seeing a pattern when I check out...the woman keeps asking for cash vs using a credit card or Apple Pay. She once told me to try Apple Pay and then said "Oh, it don't work" and then asked for cash. I pushed back and told I am using a credit card. Again this week the same situation...the woman is pushing for cash vs credit card. The machine shows Apple Pay but tells me again it does not work. Get with the times....many of us are not carrying cash to stay safe. Please deal with this situation! read more

I was looking for a thicker weighted poster board for the Kid's school project. Michael's has really thin poster board - bordering on regular paper weight. I dropped in PatCo to see if they had it. Yup they had the poster board up in the mezzanine area! Their board is much thicker than what the mass retailers offer. i also picked up a pretty purple gel pen from their display. Total for two items is $3 (tax included!). Now that's a bargain! I've been coming here off and on for years. PatCo offers the best service and frankly, their prices are about the same or less than what's offered at Staples. read more

They have everything paper that you could possibly want. Pad refills, post its, index cards in all sizes, and all the pens you can eat! Well, not eat, but try at least. I had lost my favorite pencil, a 1.4 mm lead while it's hard enough to find a pencil with a .9 mm lead.. I've been searching for a replacement for a long time and finally found one here today. You see, I write with a heavy hand, and this pencil will not break no matter how hard I press. You could easily pass this place by, but it's worth a look. I have walked by this place numerous times, from outside it's not fancy looking, just functional style. A weekend, as my mood was more relaxed and just was just walking by, they already put out 2010 calendars! This year certainly goes by fast and we are already getting to the next! The immediate attraction is the wild parrots in San Francisco. How could you not love that?! I love parrots, and I adore San Francisco for they are both full of character, huggable, and something to entice you every day and night! I also bought the "A Picture-A-Day" wall calendar for Italy! oooOOOooo Italia! Yes I bought 2 2010 calendars wishing I would be able to have double number of days than everyone else! From the sign outside with its retro-script typography to the location nestled down between banks, Patrick & Co. makes plenty clear they're the type of old-skool office supply store that made American business run throughout the twentieth century prior to the advent of computer-everything and big-box stores. It is to me a great shame and pity to see such stores in many cities fall by the wayside and therefore I'm glad to see Patrick still in the game. And how: in example of their dedication to tradition, consider that the renowned German pen designer Lamy has standard, silver, and gold retailer accounts--the only gold accounts in SF are the Patrick store locations. You can come here for other brands of pens and a couple of the employees are real experts on pens and will most likely be able to help. Bring a broken or fussy $200+ Lamy into a Staples and they'll stare at you like guileless robots and not have a clue. Unlike Mont Blanc, Lamy doesn't field its own brand stores, so you have to find places that actually stock Lamy like Patrick when something goes awry with one. Beyond fine pens, Patrick has all the traditional office items that many offices still require: binders, presentation folders, various filing systems, and labels, oh how they have labels. Especially Avery labels. Now, these are not fun stickers so no need to get too awful excited, but if you need labels you'll be relieved at the least that they actually have what you need. I seriously hope this store never closes nor changes and wish every decent-sized American city had an analog of it. read more

Patrick & Co. is a retro stationer. I would think a specialty store would be more pricey but no. I was looking for Sheaffer rolling ballpoint medium refill. At the big-box stores it costs $5.75 a piece but here at Partrick & Co, my own backyard, it's $2.90. That really says it all. This store is an emporium of office supplies. They carry stuffs Office Depot doesn't, and are cheaper than the big-box stores. I don't like any generic-looking notebook and journal, absolutely hate those 12-pack ballpens lighter than chopsticks. Here at Patrick & Co. you find gel pens by Pentel, Pilot, and Uni-ball, different types of notebooks in different bindings (although they do carry the horrible Mead spirals). You'll be surprised they carry more things than you can imagine. It's a great store, locally owned. read more

I only went in for one thing. I swear. I walked out with 6, and had to use a credit card. I love this place. I love little office things where you pick it up and you don't know what it does immediately, but you have to have it. And stationery that is so beautiful it's a work of art. And stamps. Everyone has a happy place they like to go when they're feeling down. Patrick & Co. is my happy place. When lunchtime boredom sets in, this is the best store to just walk around and waste time. They have really cool, random things yet everything an office store should sell. The card selection is fantastic along with the sticker wall which is fun to browse. I have never left this store without having purchased something. My main purchase? The uni-ball(!) micro pen in blue. The only one I'll use. By the way, this is the oldest office supply store in San Francisco so we need to support it. Unfortunately, Patrick's neighbor, Stacey's Bookstore didn't survive (sniff, sniff). So next time, you're bored at work and chatting on Facebook with random people from high school, walk over to Patrick & Company and buy some stuff! read more
