If you had asked me at the beginning of the year when my cat's issues began- I, for sure, would have recommended anyone to come to Patrick Vet, as they are very affordable and cordial. Unfortunately 8 months later, my cat was still suffering- with no diagnosis and no plan to get him healthy again I feel like I have been given the runaround and I can't say I would refer any of my friends or anyone, for that matter, to this veterinary clinic. Based on my experience, Patrick Vet is great for purchasing meds, shots, and -maybe- your yearly exam. but if you actually need anything diagnosed or looked at I wouldn't bother. Things always felt rushed, instead of thorough. A couple of times when I came my cat wasn't even looked at by the doctor/technician while we were in the exam room. After visiting so many times (NEVER the same Doctor), they referred me to an expensive specialist (dermatologist), Thank god I didn't go because after taking him to another clinic he was diagnosed with something that isn't even a skin issue. Which if they had just -looked- at him they could have known that. I wish I could have had a better experience because, like I said, they seem very nice and they are so affordable and I know so many people who have been coming here for a long time. I really don't understand why this place gets such great reviews! I took my dog in once for a check-up, and the front office staff didn't acknowledge me for a good 10 minutes- not because it was busy, but because they were too busy chatting about non-work related things. When they did finally speak to me, they were short and dismissive, borderline rude. I was taken to an exam room, and when the vet came in, he slammed the door and scared the crap out of my poor dog. Who does that?! He absolutely didn't seem like an animal lover at all. He was just as blah and dismissive as the front office staff. And on top of that, the place seemed filthy, and the rooms looked as though they hadn't been updated in 30 years. Gross. I will definitely pay a little more to have my baby seen by a legitimate veterinarian. read more

This place is awful! We waited for 2.5 hours to see a vet because my dog was had been vomiting on and off for a week. They ran some blood work and took a fecal sample. They said it would take 15 minutes to get the results, it ended up taking 35 minutes.. The blood work came back normal other than indicating some dehydration, and the fecal sample came back normal. She prescribed a couple of drugs for my dog and recommended I give my dog Pepcid to help her upset stomach, and then I received a bill for $145. $50 was the office visit alone, and another $50 was for the blood work. I think this place is a TOTAL rip off!!!! It felt so dirty there also. My husband and I both threw our clothes in the laundry as soon as we got home. read more

Last month I decided to take my Giant Schnauzer to be evaluated as she is 12 and is slowing down and I thought she had stiff joints, etc. Dr. Patrick, Jr. evaluated her and said he felt her spine looked abnormal, so I agreed to an X-ray. I was devastated when he told me she had a large splenic tumor and that I should go to Veterinary Care sooner rather than later as it would become an emergency rupture. I am so very grateful for his professional eye and experience so my girl didn't suffer more than necessary and his compassion. He called ahead for us and got us in immediately and she had surgery the next day. Although she has cancer and chemo has failed it afforded us the time with her and to say good bye to her on our terms when the time comes that she is in pain. I have seen several Dr.'s at this clinic for my 3 dogs and have liked each and every one of them in the 4 years I've been going there. They are a kind and caring staff of professionals. Before I moved to Charleston, I researched vets for weeks. Based on reviews, I eventually landed on Patrick Veterinary. I contacted them prior to taking in my 8 week old puppy (at the time) and they were very accommodating via phone and email, and they were pretty spot on when quoting me prices of shots and neuter/spay procedures. 4 years later, I am still just as satisfied as I was day one. Both of my Siberian Huskies are well taken care of at this vet. The walk-in service makes it easy for my hectic schedule. Expect to wait at least an hour at peak times, like Saturday mornings. They are very thorough and not dismissive when it comes to emergent care. One time, I brought my younger sibe in after I woke up to half of his face swollen to the size of a grapefruit. Even though they weren't technically open yet, they saw him right away to I&D what was then diagnosed as an abscessed tooth. I've had interactions with all the DVMs at this practice at least once, and they are all well-trained and very professional. The DVMs and the front desk staff alike love my dogs as much as I do. I am so happy to have found Patrick Veterinary and I wouldn't take my dogs anywhere else. read more

My three year old cocker spaniel has been a patient of Dr. Patrick since he was a wee lad. We love this place, it's clean, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable and they really do get you in and out quickly. The hours are a bit limited during the week, with extended Saturday hours. If they don't work for your schedule they offer a drop off service to accommodate you and your pet. The clinic is first come first served with more than decent pricing. I'm a huge fan of the drop off service mostly because my dog Mowgli is much better without me in the Doctors office with him, the only down side is that you can't specify which Vet Tech/Dr. you want your four legged friend to see and if you want face time, you get in line with everyone else when you come to retrieve your companion. All and all, I've never had less than a 'good' experience and my dog doesn't seem to mind either. I recommend Dr. Patrick to anyone willing to cross the bridge from Mt. Pleasant for great service & more than reasonable pricing. read more

Awesome vet practice! Yes, you can, (at times), wait a while due to their walk-ins only policy, but it's well worth the wait. Just pack your patience. I've been to many vets around the Charleston area over the years, but this is the fairest priced vet I've found. They also euthanize for free. If you're willing to bury your pet, you won't end up spending a dime during what is a very emotional and difficult time for any pet owner. I've seen four of the six vets, and all of them have always treated my pets with the upmost care. They truly are ALL about the animals! read more

I had multiple friends recommend this vet to me when I got a new kitten, except for one person who had a bad experience here with her cat. I took my cat here twice and both times waited to see the doctor for almost 2 hours. The purpose of my second visit was because my 8 month old cat appeared to have tape worms as well as vaginal discharge. I was very worried because I read about a deadly infection cats can get called "pyometra". Although I waited almost 2 hours to see the vet, by the time I saw him he appeared to be in too much of a hurry to see my cat and answer my questions. He confirmed the tape worms and tried to scurry off. I had to remind him of the vaginal discharge my cat was having, which was the main reason I brought her in that morning. I missed work because I was so concerned. He dismissed the discharge as a side effect of her going through her first heat cycle, WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING AT IT. I left the vet feeling very frustrated and concerned, but I already spent $86 and wasted almost 3 hours and a vacation day at work. Just took my cat to the Charleston Animal Society to have her spayed and they confirmed that she DID have a pyometra. If I had trusted Patrick Veterinary Clinic, my cat could have died from this deadly infection of the uterus. In my opinion, if you care deeply about your cat you would look elsewhere for a veterinarian. I am! read more

i cannot say enough about how fabulous everyone here is! after a recent trip to the emergency vet my pup was diagnosed with heart failure, leaving me in a full panic and with a large hole in my wallet. we left on a ton of meds, she was still very sick and i thought i was going to have to put thousands more into tests and meds, and probably let her go soon. the vets at patrick helped me tailor her medication dosages, helped her nausea, advised against rash unnecessary testing and thanks to them she's eating again. all of that after i spent days thinking i would have to say goodbye to my sweet girl! they are so knowledgeable, caring, helpful and realistic - and AFFORDABLE! my pups and i couldn't be happier to have found this place to be our family vet now. they dont take apppointments but thus far we've never had a long wait (and no appointments works better for me and my schedule, and for those unexpected days that my dog takes a turn for the worse). i could go on and on and on but in short, this clinic is the most affordable vet i've been to and i receive 400% better quality of care here than i have at any other vet! :) read more

I have been taking my dogs (and now a cat) to Dr. Patrick for 33 years. He is truly one of the most compassionate (with people, as well as with animals), kind, and generous people I have ever known. My animals have always loved them. When I was in a terrible spot financially earlier in my life, I couldn't afford the treatment my very sick dog needed, so I took him to be put to sleep. Dr. Patrick said, "I think there's something else I can do." (I told him I couldn't pay.) He kept Turbo for 30 DAYS, at NO CHARGE. (I had visiting rights.) Finally he told me, "I don't think I can help. Why don't you take him home for a couple of days, and then I'll come by and put him to sleep at your home." So I did, (and Turbo was so happy); and Dr. Patrick came by early on Monday morning, pet and spoke with Turbo, and then helped him go peacefully "to sleep". Gave me a hug, and left. Everything -- no charge. I was, and still am, touched by his kindness beyond words. I think he is an angel on Earth. read more
