Amazing Baltimore atmosphere along with great food. If you love the history of Baltimore and just want to have a place to go eat good food and listen to great music, this is the place to go.

So I'm at a new work location in Essex and see the menu for PatRicks (named after owners Pat and Rick). Nothing too striking except that the food is cheap and they always have happy hour specials. A few hours later I'm waiting for the bus home and while playing on my new smart phone thingy I find that this place is 3 doors down from the bus stop so I decide to go in for a drink. Yes. This was exactly how I thought it would be. I walked in to a large square bar filled with the finest middle aged folk in Essex and there's only one seat left at the bar. Immediately I felt like a fish out of water in my shirt and tie in this crowd but no worries. Everyone seems to be having a good time. I order a $1.75 Budweiser draft and chill. After I knock the bar twice and take my first gulp the guy next to me asks "How's that first sip of the day?" With that I practically deflate and say "Oh my god it's the best part of my day!" And like that I become part of the bar with conversation and chuckles for the rest of my stay. I hear that the food is good here. I also hear that it's hit or miss. You could get prime rib or fatty gristle but the shrimp salad sammich you can't make at home for this cheap. Another round later my bartender circles the bar and drops a small plastic shot cup in front of everyone saying "Keith" as she goes. Apparently this Keith character just came in and bought the whole bar a round and we're talking upwards of 30 people. Thanks, Keith! This was one of the friendliest, don't-judge-a-book-by-it's-cover bars I've been into in a while. Although I stood out like a turd in a punch bowl I was part of the cast of characters by the time I left. I'll most certainly stop back in here again for a decompression beer after work. Thank you PatRicks. You are exactly what I needed after a long day. This is old Baltimore at it's finest. Holler at it, Hon!

Food is awesome and great prices. Their sweet potato fries are the bomb. I had a BLT w a fried egg ,Yikes so big!!!

The entire place has been updated and expanded and there is still more work in progress. We arrived around five on a very busy St. Patrick's for dinner. We were meeting very good friends and were excited to spend some time together. The decor was so fun and the place was hopping. Even though all of the staff seemed to be extremely busy, we were allowed to wait for a table that would seat us comfortably while being a bit out of the way of the hubbub. The redone U-shaped bar area is very large with plenty of seating at the bar and around it. There are multiple long, high top tables too. The other side of the restaurant is filled with booths and tables with plenty of room to accommodate any size party. I saw tables that fit at least 10 people there. There is also an outdoor area that is under construction, but looks like it will be a very nice addition to the bar. Now on to the food and the drinks. They had so many specials for St. Patrick's Day and a large variety of them too rather than just the typical corned beef and cabbage or Ruben's. They had lots of other Irish delicacies like shepherds pie, and bangers and mash. They had all kinds of drink specials, including green margaritas, Guinness, and lots of other fancy drinks to choose from. They have plenty of beers on top and basically a full bar where you can get anything to wet your whistle. I had a two guys burger, which was basically a bacon cheeseburger, and it was cooked to perfection (not to mention it was probably close to a half pound of ground beef on that burger) along with some fries and a salad. My friend had a Reuben, which she thought was very good. My husband who loves hot turkey sandwiches ended up getting one of those and a side salad too. It was made with fresh turkey and we all know how that kicks it up a notch. Other friend got the meatloaf, which was good, but there was cheese on top and he wasn't a big fan of that. They have daily specials with lots to choose from. We had the $1 wings and were delighted with the many choices of sauces. There were so many customers coming in constantly for their carry out, too. Everything was fresh. The prices were great. Everything was very tasty and the atmosphere was fun without being too noisy. We can't wait to go back and try it again soon.

We have never had a bad experience there. Breakfast is always a winner. People are very friendly.read more

Cozy neighborhood dive bar…read more My brother frequents Brannan so we went to check it out while I was visiting the area recently. My brother said he likes it because it's unpretentious and the regulars who frequent the bar are usually locals. He said it's always a good time as the people are cool and the drinks are fantastic. We actually stopped in for a midday cocktail on a Sunday afternoon. There were a few people there but not too many due to the time of day. We sat at the bar and an older gentleman took our order. My brother knew him so they chit chatted for awhile about the comings and goings of other locals. The bar is no frills for sure but I still found it warm and inviting. It had a certain charm to it that I can't really put my finger on. There are pool tables in the rear the bar and an electronic juke box. We played a couple rounds of pool while jamming to some tunes which was a lot of fun. I can't recall the name of the drinks I ordered but they were really good. They were fruity cocktails that the older gentleman mixed. He didn't skip on the alcohol either. We ordered 5 drinks total and the bill was just under $30. My brother told me that some people in the neighborhood look down on Brannan's because it's a dive bar but I had a great time. I didn't find anything wrong with it whatsoever. All the other patrons were really nice as was the bartender. The atmosphere was cozy and chill. I'd definitely visit again during a future trip.

We ended up parking in the neighborhood across the street. There is a busy Happy Hour going on around 5:30 which is great. The Emerald Tavern has a bit of Irish-ness about it with a few Brit food options on the menu like fish and chips and shepherd's pie. We sat at the bar and were pleased to find a beer menu! The beer selection was varied and included some local options. They also have a wide selection of beer on tap and in bottles and cans. I was not expecting that. The food menu was also much larger than I would have expected. They have just about everything here. I had the chicken quesadilla (it came with salsa and sour cream) and my husband had the cheesesteak special which was only $6! All of the prices on the menu were very reasonable. We also had the pretzel bite which were good if not a little greasy. The quesadilla and cheesesteak were really good! Service at the bar was fast and friendly. They have live music here on the weekends but we left long before the band started setting up because we are old.

Such a relaxing and peaceful atmosphere! The salmon dish was amazing! I got the sauce on the side and ended up not eating it. The salmon was cooked perfectly. We've been to restaurants lately where the prices are crazy overpriced for a child. I learned from our server that kids eat free on Saturday with an adult entree. Will definitely be back with the whole family for that perk! If you're not interested in sitting outside, the indoor dining room was really open and nice. The bar seemed to be a very popular section to sit! If I had to find some a needs improvement would be the cleanliness of the restrooms. Definitely could use a deep clean. Overall, really great place to gather with friends, family or even a date night!

It surprised me because I don't usually drink beer (hate is a strong word, but I normally don't like it). This one was sweeter and enjoyable. We got the garlic rosemary fries (the aioli was perfect), plus the blackened chicken tenders and honey Old Bay wings. Definitely not a place that'll leave you hungry -- portions are generous!
