A friend recommended this place as a dependable, ethical mechanic. I called last week and he agreed to take me in first thing Monday. He said 5:30 AM. Much to my surprise he MEANT it! At 5:30 I pulled in and they were already into their first project of the day! He took my info and a description of the problem. I waited at the Waffle House across the street. Before I knew it I had a missed call from him. When I got to the counter he explained the problem, the solution, and another glitch he noticed and advised me on. What was once a great shop, has gone down hill - PLEASE READ.... I was a long time loyal customer, and Pat took advantage of me & lied to me.... I brought my car into Pat's to have some work done on it, including an examination of the cooling system which had been working perfectly, but I was just curious if it needed some maintenance. Previously, my cars operating temperature had never waivered even once. And for my job I spend a lot of time idling for long durations; not even in the summer did I have heating issues. Two hours after getting my car back from Pat's the temperature gauge spiked to the max, and my head gasket blew shortly after. I told Pat I would not expect him to replace the head gasket (a $2500 job), but I asked that he would at least refund me the $700 I spent for the services I had done. This felt fair as there was no way to prove the ultimate cause, but the timing was all to coincidental. Pat understood and said he would send a check out that day. The check never came, Pat ignored two voicemails from me following up. I cent a certified letter to his shop, which USPS returned to me saying they tried on 3 separate occasions to get a signature, but that none could be obtained. Pat damaged my car, cost me thousands of dollars, and just as bad lied to me. I had a great relationship with his shop and referred numerous customers to him over the years. So if he did it to me, don't think he wont do it to you. On a closing note, a few months before my incident, other friends I had referred to Pat's in the past took their cars there and both had terrible experience, which they attributed to Pat's new staff. Still, I wasn't deterred from taking my car to Pats. I should have listened to them. Awesome. Pats is an amazing person and an awesome mechanic. He replaced my engine that someone else "replaced" fixing all the other shops "mistakes" and treating me good while dealing with a stressful situation. Then when I took the other place to small claims court, pat showed up and described what work he did to the truck. He then stated what the other place had done and what all they had messed up. I had almost $500 of work done at Tire Choice of 106 S Goose Creek Blvd, Goose Creek, SC with Mr Mike Pikus. Worst experience with a manager. Tirechoice had put on spark plugs, flushed my system and installed a spark plug valve cover. Ends up they do not reconnect a plug cover and a piece of it was broken off. They fully denied doing it. Pat's Automotive repaired it swiftly and with honest service. I took their findings back to Tire Choice and was basically told i was not believeable because Pat's Automotive could have done something when i wasn't looking. Mike Pikus said i was rude to him and call corporate. Thank you for your honest service, Pat's Automotive. I didn't have an appointment. I didn't know what to do. Pat's is AWESOME! Fast, fair, smart, and funny. My car broke down in North Charleston on a Sunday when driving home to Raleigh, NC. I called Pat on Monday and notified him my car was getting towed over and the rest was taken care of. Pat provided me with updates and advice on what to be fixed and he really knows what he is talking about. I picked my car up after hours and it was nicely parked on the side for me to easily locate. The people on here who gave this establishment favorable reviews MUST be close buddies and/or family members of the owner because this was hands down the worst auto mechanic we have ever dealt with...My husband took the car in about 8 months or so ago before we brought it back recently. Pat said it was the alternator the first time we took it in so he put in a "new" alternator. When the car started giving us trouble again recently my husband brought it back and low and behold Pat said it was the alternator. I guess he forgot he was the one who literally just switched it out for a "new" one. We reminded him that HE had just put in a new alternator months before and he agreed that it was under warranty and he would replace it for free. (FYI in the beginning your Pat's Auto experience will be pleasant and cheerful. Pat is actually very jovial and quite charming UNTIL you have a questions about the bill or ask for a simple explanation as to why you are handing him over a small fortune, then things get well.....not so Disney) Pat called back later that day and it was the darnedest thing, it WASN'T the alternator after all it was some other part who's price point was equivalent to what we could only speculate would be around the same cost as the Flux Capacitor...we still don't fully understand what it was that he changed out that cost so much, he never really explained it to us so we just called it the Flux Capacitor. We assumed the Flux Capacitor like part was only manufactured and sold on Mars because it took Pat's Auto 4 days to have it shipped to their shop and install it. Four days later, post Flux Capacitor installation, I drive the car off the lot and it starts to smoke and continues to sporadically cut off. I barely make it back to Pats shop and by some divine miracle, and after keeping it at the shop for another day he calls to report that he was able to get his hands on ANOTHER Flux Capacitor and install it in only 1 day because apparently the first one that was 4 days out was "defective" hence the reason why the car was now in worst shape than it was before we brought it. After the 2nd one was installed, I drive the car off the lot, the car conks out again, I take it back and this time it needs new coils that are going to be about 600. My husband who is one of the most passive people on this planet called to simply inquire about the additional costs before we dish out even MORE money and Pat became extremely combative and was actually screaming at my husband. We were dumbfounded at his lack of professionalism. After Pat had the weird meltdown, we decided to just cut our losses even though the car was in worse condition than it was when we first brought it in. I mean I know he's just a mechanic and not a rocket science (well maybe he is some sort of scientist, he got his hands on the Flux Capacitor after all) but the whole experience was just ridiculous and distasteful. All in all I think were out a car for about a week and a half and it still wasn't fixed. TRUST ME DON'T GO HERE. The store hours are weird and unaccommodating, and the owner is untrustworthy to say the least. read more

We have nothing but good things to say about this shop. The staffs are professional and helpful. Their prices are very reasonable, and we have been highly satisfied every time we brought our car in to get it checked or fixed. If you're in search of a great auto shop, look no further. Unfortunately, we just left the area, and we are hoping we can find a shop as reliable and wonderful as Pat's in the new location. read more

Pat's Automotive went above and beyond for us to repair my husbands 2004 Silverado rack and pinion. Pat saw that was recently replaced at a local competitor was faulty so he mentioned we should check to see if they'd cover it under warranty. We called that business and they said they'd cover it but then said after bringing them Pats diagnosis, they examined the truck and said that another part connected to the rack and pinion was the issue and that it would be $1300 for everything! Well we called Pat back and asked what he could do and stated that this business said they wouldn't replace the rack and pinion, that they said it was another issue connected to it, etc. Pat said no way, bring the truck back to him and he'd find a way to get out rack and pinion warrantied out with the manufacture and he did just that!! Yes, we had to pay for labor but having a honest mechanic go above and beyond for us is well worth the money!! Adding on a replacement line and an oil change that we needed to the work we needed and we are coming in at under half the price of what the other shop wanted. Pat made sure to check the truck with a fine tooth comb, gave us complete honesty and we couldn't be more thankful to find a shop that we know will fix it right the first time! As well as have great customer service and pick up the pieces when the competition drops the ball. We appreciate his recommendations about the warranty on our part in the first place and that's why in the end we took it back to Pat to do the repair. Horrible experience! He did not fix the problem, the car broke down the very next day. He had the car towed back to him (then tried to charge me for towing) He also tried to charge for parts and services that were not needed. He became upset over the phone when I started to question the charges and he hung up on me. When I got to the shop, he was still upset and very aggressive. I refused to do business with him after not only his unprofessionalism, but he couldn't explain to me why the car cut off after he supposedly fixed it and how he determined that I now need a new alternator. I decided to take my car to the dealership where I found out that the problem was never what Pat claimed, so he never fixed the actual problem AND my alternator is in great condition! I had the dealership do the work and we haven't had any other problems! read more
