5/1/22 Butterfly Blue Pea Flower Tea
Lee D.

Quality/Quantity - My daughter tried the Butterfly Blue Pea Flower Tea, because she saw it on Tik Tok.... It was not to her liking. She said it was too light and tasted just like hot water. But it did have a cool blue shade to it, LOL. Dennis said that this tea is not usually drunk plain, but rather mixed with other ingredients like milk or lemon juice. Atmosphere - Nice small local tea and spice shop. Open 7 days a week, see picture. Street parking. Service - Excellent. Dennis has great customer service skills. If you are following my previous Yelps, you know my daughter asks so many questions. She is so curious and wants to learn. Price - $2.50 for a cup of tea. Then we bought a bag of tea leaves for $9 of the cream earl grey. Owner Comment - Congrats to Dennis and Savannah since their recent purchase of this business in 2021, we wish you the best of luck. And happy retirement to Pat and Tom for all their hard work since founding this business in 2012.

smells amazing too!!!

The socks (Paths to the Spirit, fair trade) were an instant hit for me. They are thick, colorful, and incredibly warm: perfect for an Oregon winter. I also found two pairs of Solmate socks on sale. That's a bonus, so I decided to get them, too. The shop was a bit too fragrant for my husband (not synthetic Hallmark store fragrant, however), so he stepped outside for fresh air. Lots of interesting items in this very well-stocked store. I could have browsed more, but my aim was on high-quality socks, so I kept my visit short. They also have wonderful candles, teas, herbs, and jewelry. Check-out was friendly and easy. I'll be back!

We left because of the awkwardness of it all and not to mention as an indigenous woman it was just not worth being in the space. I don't care if locals love this space, I know the real thing from the new age neo Native American bullshit. After we left quickly because my 8 year old was over it, the owner or worker- came out with her fist clenched and she was like "where is the purse she was holding." I walked back in and said - right there." She said "oh"! I was embarrassed for her; however I feel like she wanted there to be some sort of dramatic scenario. No apology- just accusing my child of stealing and she is probably lowkey racist- monetizing off others cultures. Don't waste your money- go find the deal- the true healers, people genuinely connected to the plants, culture and stay away from this nonsense.

The ingredients on the sandwiches were very fresh. I could have used a little more sauce on mine. However, the potatoe salad was the star of the show. Definitely tangy and i loved the pickles in it. Very popular since most of the onsite seating were occupied (6/20/25). No surprise after glancing at their menu, easily I could gravitate towards several of their sandwiches. Lots of merch and deli items are also available to select from. I ended up ordering a half pound of proscuitto (0.52 lb for $17.67). This was carefully sliced thin, packaged, and wrapped carefully, which was duly noted and greatly appreciated. We paused at window counter seats and had to sample the purchase before departing. Absolutely delicious! Helped elevate a meal the next day too. I may have to return to indulge in one of their Italian sandwiches. Update: we did return to dine onsite at the same window counter seats (6/22/25). The Homie had the Hot Meatball ($14). Meaty with zesty sauce. I had the Salami Panini ($12), which reminded me of a fave Italian panini at Irwin's Bakery & Cafe in Seattle. Both were fantastic, hit the spot, clean plate club worthy, and definitely no takeout boxes needed! Gaetano's Market & Deli, a terrific find in Astoria!

No! This place was…read morereally disappointing. Came here based on reviews, but I. would caution anyone to steer clear of this place. It started with flat champagne drinks. That's just a fail, and it suggests a place that doesn't bother keeping things fresh. It kind of went downhill from there. We were looking for nice fresh fish and chips, wile we were out along the coast. We live near the coast ourselves, and are no strangers to good seafood. We decided to do the Cod and the Halibut fish and chips. While the halibut seemed fresh, the cod was waxy and looked old, and frankly i found it somehow mildly nauseating. I couldn't bring myself to teat it. The batter was crsipy, but lacked seasoning and tasted really flat (cardboard?). Aside from that, the coleslaw seemed pretty old soggy. Gross. Not impressed at all - some of the worst fish and chips I have ever had. Some people may like this kind of food - but i will actively avoid this place the next time in Astoria. Hard pass. i'm nauseous just thinking back to my experience here. Could hardly get away fast enough...

I also picked up a quart of the managers clam chowder he makes fresh every day. Service is quick and everything is packaged well to go. The shop is clean and tidy which is important when dealing in these kinds of perishable ingredients. Once I left, my wife and I headed out to the beach to make lunch. I shucked the oysters to serve on the half-shell, opened up the crab meat and took the top off the quart of hot chowder. Everything was delicious!

I came in and placed an order for a big party I was having, and when I arrived they had it all ready to go in a box with lots of ice. The smoked scallops and oysters were a huge hit; I made a crab-mac with their fresh picked shelled dungeoness, and shrimp cocktail with Oregon shrimp. 10 lbs of mixed manila/butter clams all fresh, all popped, yummy. Great friendly service. Prices are, well, not inexpensive, but you get what you pay for!

The Grand Dame of the Columbia River Smokery, Astoria, Ore…read more - There are cathedrals of salt, smoke, and time, and then there is Josephson's Smokehouse, a cedar-shingled shrine on the edge of the Pacific Northwest where briny fog meets hardwood ember. Here, the art of curing is not a craft but a calling. Lunch is a liturgy. The clam chowder arrives like a maritime memory-velvety, studded with tender-cheeked clams, each spoonful a foghorn in a bowl. The salmon burger, grilled to a rosy medium, defies the dry, crumbly fates of lesser patties; it is juicy, lush, and dressed with a tartar that brightens like a lighthouse flash. But the true epiphany? The lox on a bagel--silk-smooth, brined with the precision of a jeweler, draped over cream cheese that yields like fresh snow. It is not merely eaten; it is contemplated. We depart with coolers stuffed with their cold-smoked Sockeye salmon-amber-gold, peppery, almost buttery in its melt-destined for Manhattan bagels and late-night toasts. It travels like treasure. Yet Josephson's soul isn't found in the smokehouse alone-it lives in the warm, unhurried grace of its counter staff, each one wonderfully kind. Against the coldness of algorithms, this is hospitality as rebellion. Five stars? Insufficient. This is a constellation.

It was a good decision. Note for fellow travelers: their menu is small. They are a smokehouse that oh by the way has a small dining area as well, which they call the Chowder House. Small can be beautiful. Specialization has its benefits. We ordered the chowder and smoked salmon on rye. First, the chowder. It's the real deal, slightly thinner than some, but not too thin, and boy howdy delicious. Seriously, its some of the best. I would say it's up there with Gracie's Sea Hag in Depoe Bay. It does not skimp on the clams, and is chunky throughout. The smoked salmon on rye exchanges a bagel for rye toast, but keeps the rest of the traditional deli staple intact. There is cream cheese, capers, red onion, and, of course, the salmon. (I don't know where smoked raw salmon ends and nova lox begins. They seem to be the same.) This is where we begin to understand those benefits of specialization. It was simply the best I've had. It was well smoked and tasted fabulous with the rye. If you have passed this place by for years as well, stop it, and stop by. It's good stuff. They also ship their smoked salmon.
