This is my second review and I'm happy to say the service and food has gone up in stars since 2014. The wait staff was efficient, knowledgeable, and friendly. They will adjust any dish according to your diet restrictions. I had the salmon tacos prepared naked for me. The salmon was crusty on the outside and still moist on the inside, with plenty of the fish in the soft tacos. The Pico was homemade, the salsa also, both definitely NOT out of a jar. The avocado dip was plentiful and fresh. The chips were house-made, and with just a touch of salt, every one was crisp and firm enough to hold the avocado dip. My spouse's garlic shrimp in creamy butter sauce was not overly garlicky per him, with plentiful tender shrimp. The petite roasted yellow potatoes were just a touch crusty, not overly seasoned, and creamy inside. The side of in-season veggies was not overcooked. The side salad had various types of lettuce (no iceberg) with their house dressing. We shared the apple pie with a huge scoop of vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, and a drizzle of caramel sauce. The slice was huge, big enough for two to share. The ice cream was a quality vanilla ice cream and house-made whipped cream. The pie crust was flaky, and the apples were firm, not mushy. The atmosphere is casual, rustic, and reminds me of the old ski lodges in VT 50 years ago. read more

Food quality/ price (value) rating 8.5. The atmosphere is somewhat nondescriptive as there isn't really any kind of theme. The menu is pretty standard bar / tavern food with no real surprises. I had the Grilled Chicken BLT in a wrap rather than the Ciabata roll offered. It was very good. I also upgraded my side dish from French fries to Fried Onion Rings. The onion rings weren't very hot and really didn't seem to have any real onion in them. The wife had the Coconut Chicken salad and thought it was very good. They have a limited but well chosen number of draught beers. Our server, Lisa, was enthusiastic, efficient, and friendly. read more

We had nachos with chicken and guacamole. Whatever was in it made us sick. The guacamole tasted fermented. The chicken was clearly frozen strips. The shredded cheese was unmelted. And the chips tasted like rancid oil. And they charged $29 for one plate of nachos so bad that we're now ill. read more

We happened to be in town around lunchtime and decided to give this bar/restaurant a try after viewing the menu posted outside. The bar area was very busy so we opted to sit in the dining room. Our table's top was different from others in the room and was quite sticky - ugh. Service was good with our waitress quite engaging. We each ordered a bowl of chili that proved to be satisfying both in terms of size and flavor. 2.5 stars. Equally good and bad trip. Group of 4 who came for our first time at the recommendation of friends. We came on a Thursday for trivia (which started like 30 minutes late) we got there at 6:30 and got our first drink orders pretty quickly- nice! Then it took about 15 minutes for our waitress to come back and take our food orders. There wasn't much of a crowd when we came in, mostly people closing out tabs. The food wait took about 20-30 minutes. 3 o us got our food. The waitress forgot to ring in my partners food entirely (and never came to check how our meal was, so I had to go physically find her and ask her about it) she lied and said the kitchen had missed it, which I didn't appreciate. Own up to your mistakes. (It was the last item rung in on the receipt, after beers we got later) His food was obviously rushed so it wasn't great. No offer to comp even a beer for the mistake. We ordered pretzels as an appetizer but they came out with the meal, so space on the table got tight. The pretzels were a bit hard and dry. We ordered two servings initially, but the 4 of us could only get through half. I got the chicken panini, which just didn't taste good as a whole sandwich, so I tried to just open it up and eat the chicken at least, which I literally couldn't because it was so dry. My partner's Ruben was chewy and flavorless, I'm hoping that is because it was made on the fly and a one off. One friend got the pattaconk burger which looked great- and he enjoyed the taste, but he couldn't eat it like a burger because as he was taking his first bite the entire burger basically disintegrated in his hands. Our other friend got some chilli hotdogs which he enjoyed. The beer selection is very wide and enjoyable. Prices are not listed anywhere for the beers so unfortunately, we paid $9.50 per draft. If the price was listed, we probably would not have gotten more than one, as that is a crazy price for draft beers. The waitress only came around 3 times in the entire 2 and a half hours we were there, and never even asked how our food was. Not that I would have complained because I'm usually not a complainer but this whole night just rubbed me the wrong way. There was no trivia night menu. The trivia was okay. It was not your traditional pen and paper trivia- it was on your phone, multiple choice and based on speed of answers. Biggest issue was that the pattaconk is located in an area with zero signal. Their free WiFi is extremely spotty and disconnected me from the trivia multiple times. We missed about a quarter of the questions because the page wouldn't load, which took the fun out of trivia. Our meal came to about 200$ for 4 people. Almost half of that was beer (8 total). Not worth the trip in my opinion, but we may have just had a cacophony of bad luck. read more

My husband and I stopped in the yesterday afternoon for lunch. The service was incredible. The bartender was as sweet as they come and very engaging as was one of the waitresses working there. Although we sat at the bar and didn't get service from her, she was delightful. Great vibe to the place Old fashion bar/restaurant. I had the black bean burger that was very good. My husband had the Reuben egg rolls and he said they were some of the best things he's ever eaten. I would highly recommend this place for anybody that's in the area. I had the coconut chicken salad. It was delicious. I could have used more dressing but our waitress was in a hurry to get rid of us I felt. We were still eating and my daughter was going to order another drink but she says do you want boxes for your food? I was like no thanks then she brings us the bill and never asked if we were done. So service was bad. She never brought us utensils or napkins another waitress had to do that so we could eat our meal that was sitting in front of us for at least 3-5 minutes. My daughter got the gluten free steak and cheese sandwich with fries. We couldn't eat the fries way too much pepper on them. She ate about half the sandwich as she didn't like the taste of the meat. I hope they have better service for others. I might try it again when I come out here to see the next play next month. read more

We came here on a Saturday night, expecting a wait but there wasn't one. We had been there many times before. The food has always been decent, not great or bad, just decent. We were blown away this time. We started with the lobster bisque, which aside from being a little salty, was great. Good chunks of lobster. I had a kebabs which was a special, he had a burger. His burger was perfect and very good. My kebabs were EXCELLENT. They were steak, chicken and shrimp, with roasted potatoes and veggies...$20. I got three meals out of that one dinner. This place still looks the same, it's probably always going to too. Downtown Chester this time of year is just stunning at night. The stars are lit up all over town. I am a local and have my own mug here, so something to take into consideration as you read the review because it is clearly my "hometown" bar. This place has been around for a long time and per the old schoolers it has only gotten better. The draft list is always pretty good. Not extensive, but enough with a decent variety to make everyone happy. Their menu has been redone not too long ago and is also great. My favorite item is the coconut chicken salad. Large portion with a lot of delicious chicken pieces. I do agree with Dawn D.'s comments regarding the service. It has been an 85/15 for me. Eighty-five percent of the time everyone is super nice and service is great. The other percentage is maybe missed communications or being rushed, which is not terrible, but could use improvement. I will say there was one very rude interaction mixed in there as well, which is why I leave it at 4 and not 5, despite being my local go-to. read more

Pattaconk is a local hangout spot, is always packed, and full of life and fun! Head into the bar and grab a pint (they always have several on tap!) or a seasonal cocktail. When we visited I got the hocus pocus cocktail- with ginger beer and was delicious! They always have a full menu of specials. I tried the steak tips with mashed potatoes off of that menu. My husband ordered the Reuben- a pattaconk staple! Overall- it's a solid spot for a good drink and some bar food in the heart of downtown Chester. read more

Just the kind of place you want on a cold winter day when you rush in off the street and it's all warm and cozy with an empty barstool 5 feet away and a smiling bartender to welcome you. It's close inside, low ceilings, everything kind of hodgepodge. That is the great part. I had a draft which I thought was a little pricey at 9.50. The cup of chowder was less at 6, whatever. The chowder was pretty good but I prefer mine without the thickener in it, usually flour. The clams were good though, but the chowder wasn't hot just lukewarm. My friend and I stopped for dinner at Pattaconk 1850 Bar & Grille in downtown Chester. We were previously here before for drinks in the summer several years ago when we sat outside. This time we experienced the inside. This is a fun place, there is a jukebox, and the low ceilings give a good cozy feeling. Based on the name, the look and feel of the place it has likely been in business for 170 years. I just love supporting a place that's still going strong after so long. Unfortunately, I have to say I wasn't so impressed with my meal. The menu had a lot of choices, lots of burgers, hot dogs and sandwiches. I got the Crispy Coconut Chicken Salad and a cup of New England Clam Chowder. My friend got the Reuben with fries, she really enjoyed it. My salad was just weak to say the least. There was nothing coconut about the chicken. It was flavorless and bland. There was a lot of greens in my salad, I would have liked some tomatoes, but that wasn't in the description, there were lots of cranberries and almonds, everything else was lacking. They charged me extra for a tiny cup of extra dressing, which is a bit ridiculous. I did like the clam chowder. It was truly very good! Just perfect, I love a good clam chowder, especially in the winter and this was it. Maybe I'll revisit this place again in the future, but certainly not for this salad. read more

I'd give this place zero stars. After a delicious dinner my friend and I wanted a quick beer before the trip home. We walked in around 9:15 and when my friend went up to the bar to get a drink we she was told that they called last call 30 minutes ago. At 8:45 pm on a Friday?!?! This place does not skimp. I had the coconut chicken salad. There were so many pieces of chicken i took half home. The salad was loaded with cranberries and almonds. As a new person to the area I've been in search of a local hometown bar. I've learned that this bar is one of the few if not the only bar open past 9/10 o'clock. It's usually pretty busy, definitely a local hang out, the nachos and speciality cocktails were good. But they will definitely give you an attitude, are rude and try and make you leave to make room for the "locals". I've so far seen three different bartenders.. there is a young lady and man who were very friendly, talkative and personable. I went for a college reunion and we sorta took over the dining room. Our server read the table wonderfully, I mean seriously I don't think I have ever seen a more talented waitress. She created rapport with everyone. The place was clean and very friendly. The drink list had something for everyone without being a book and prices were fair. The food, most had burgers which were huge. I had a chicken sandwich which tasted awesome but it was not a full chicken patty but like two chicken fingers. The bun was a potato bun I believe. It tasted great but fell apart likely due to not being a patty. Fries were good, don't bother with the beer cheese, it didn't need it. My wife had the wrap and enjoyed it. For us it was a no brainer, we will return only the one ding and a minor one at that. read more

Funny how I just read a recent review who experienced the same experience as we did, a few days ago. My husband and I came in for our little date, it was our first time and always wanted to try this place. Big mistake, no one came to greet us for 15 mins. Really wanted to like this place. The best thing about it, the staff was friendly. Ordered the spring rolls, there's a picture of on this page. Obviously frozen, deep fried and just served to us. My wife and I had dinner on Labor Day. Dining room was pretty empty when we arrived but quickly was populated. Started with the Rueben Egg rolls. Excellent when dipped in the thousand island dressing that comes with them. She had the Chicken tenders and I went with the Chicken Piccata special both were good with acquit proportions and reasonably priced. Service was ok.
