Our pets are members of our family. We love them as much as our blood relatives (and sometimes more). That's why we expect them to receive level of care and attention that we might receive ourselves if we had to go see a doctor. I'm happy to say that Patterson delivers on those expectations. The nurses and receptionist are friendly and attentive. Dr. Lynch took time to explain in great detail what all of my Boston terrier's lab results meant, rather than just giving me a bottom line. When it came time to pay for the services, I was mindful of how much I as a human appreciate insurance. You do pay for this level of care. The office visit was $54. It cost about $200 for blood and urine tests. 14 pills and 12 cans of special dog food set me back about $80. I'd say my dog was worth the expense, and she is. But, part of the reason I came here was because I thought Harper Woods Veterinary Hospital was too expensive. It seems that if you want quality, you have to pay for it. read more

Terrible front desk attitude. Called to set up an appt yesterday, the receptionist was talking to others in the background when she was more focused on what sounded like a party literally going on. I asked to be on a wait list for a sooner appt, but she rudely told me no they do not do that. Last time I brought my small dog in they told me to hold him because he bites when I personally don't blame him because the following week my bigger dog was literally lifted by his collar where he could've been strangled, and the veterinarian told me he's okay . I was also told when my smaller dog was sick he could drink Gatorade, WHICH IS NOT RECOMMENDED. I see others say that the place has gone downhill since Dr Patterson left. I wish Dr Patterson could see how the staff are really ruining the business and address it. read more

I took my cat in a few weeks back for a quality of life check. They gave her medicines for pain. Today I had to take her in for an emergency visit. Apparently one of the medicines they prescribed to her should be given to dogs and not cats....(so I was told by staff) I paid $395-basically for their mistake AND I got home and they left the IV in!!!!!!!!! I am so mad-I will be giving them a call tomorrow. read more

Where do I begin...I'm going to make this short. I came back from vacation on Thursday and my 6 year old little Morkey looked thin but she ate great that night. I woke on Friday and she seemed sluggish. Friday morning I called Patterson and they said they could get me in on Monday. She was weaker and weaker during the day so I just went into Patterson with hopes of getting in. They took me and informed me my Sug was dehydrated. They said they need to check her blood and take X-rays and put her on an iv. I asked how much was blood and X-rays. They said $200. I said ok. When they got the blood work back they realized my little Sugs kidneys were only working at 10 percent. They wanted me to put my Sug down. I said no, they said, we can't let you take her, it's inhumane and they would have to report me to animal control. We then informed them that we would be getting a second opinion. They said I would have to pay before they released my Sug. They charged me $610, $200 for blood and $200 for X-rays. Plus an emergency price for the visit and the iv. I said that was bs...but paid the bill. I asked if they had any medication for my Sug, her glucose was also elevated. They informed me that my second opinion would give me my prescriptions, at this point it was 5 pm on Friday, again informed me if I didn't get a second opinion they would report me to animal control. I just wanted to get out of there asap. My Sug passed away peacefully in my daughters arms on Sunday. After this incident I talked with some other friends and they also had a bad experience at this place. Rip Sugar read more

My cat Beemer was diagnosed with pneumonia throughout his lungs the other month. On our second follow-up visit his medication was changed and Beemer developed diarrhea, which is a serious problem for me as he doesn't poop in his litter box. I stopped the medication immediately and called the office. A week and three subsequent phone calls, I still have not talked to Beemer's vet or been given new medication. And Beemer still has pneumonia in one lung. I have always had a feeling that the practice is more dog oriented. This experience only serves to confirm my suspicion. read more

This is hard to write, because we took our dog here for his whole 14 years. I feel like when he got sick, they gave up. Told us to put him down the day we found out he was sick. Never called to check on him... when our dog finally passed, we notified them. 3 weeks later we received emails regarding bringing him in for his past due vaccinations (which he was caught up at the time he passed) we received sympathy cards from the Emergency clinic we had to take him when he passed, the vet we took him to for a 2nd opinion, and they only saw him once. Nothing from Patterson. I'm just really disappointed in their lack of compassion & empathy at the end. We unfortunately will not be bringing our next pet here read more

I have been going to Patterson Veterinary for over the last 10 years for my two dogs. I called to bring in my dog that had a horrible cough and did not sleep all night so I need to see someone asap. Called to set up an appointment and they said they were booked for two weeks and for me to just to call another vet. I thought that was very unlike them because I had never had an issue scheduling an appointment before. They have been sending me text and emails about his vaccines due soon but when you really need them to see your dog they blow me off. They know my dog history and everything about him and this is how you treat long term clients then I will take him elsewhere. I am really disappointed. I have been going to this practice on and off with two dogs for almost 20 years. The Secretarial staff has always been courteous, funny, amd understanding which I still believe today to be true. I had a scheduled procedure for my dog today scheduled two months ago. I did call two days prior to assure the process and prep so we were following all guideines. I showed up for drop off to be greeted very well by the front desk but my experience with the surgical technician, i presume, was cold, callous, and rude. You were supposed to come in to get bloodwork prior; i had no idea and asked why, when I called, someone didnt mention this. It is not their job! Alright, mistakes happen and I still have the estimate which does not give any directions for blood work, but seriously, I have a ten year old king Charles which is frightening to get any procedure as he is a part of the family. I am really shocked that someone in such a customer service occupation was so abrupt. Needless to say, I cancelled the appointment and now need to find another vet; I am usually very understanding and normally would overlook such pettiness but it was such an experience that left my blood boiling which is really tough to do. read more

I have not gone to this veterinary service in years but I still feel compelled to review them. I will first start off with their care. Overall it is adequate care. The times I went there it was standard procedure, nothing remarkable or extraordinary. However, there are other aspects of their service that needs improvement. At the time they seemed to be overbooking as a practice. This was the straw that broke the camel's back for me. I got tired of waiting and called out the receptionist for why I was waiting. Naturally the receptionist was trying to deflect. I do not appreciate being given spin. You are professionals, act like it. Lastly, I had put down one dog with them. I remember asking them what the animal's chances of survival were and I was told that it was their policy not to make those assessments. Well why are you even in practice then? I am there paying you for your time, knowledge, and expertise. If you are not going to provide me with your full professional knowledge, then you are failing to live up to your professional obligation. That was extremely ridiculous. That would be like me asking the mechanic his opinion on fixing my car and he states it is his policy to not make such assessments. My final assessment: If you are looking for a standard veterinary practice this place will do. However, their pricing structure was no different from their competitors so it is easy to look elsewhere for better care. read more

Extremely disappointed with this place. It was highly recommend by family and I would personally never recommend this place to anyone after my visit there. I called to schedule an appointment for my puppy and was not told I needed to bring in his previous paperwork or a stool sample, I was also not given a reminder call the day before his appointment. On the day of the appointment I called to check in and the receptionist was beyond rude. She yelled at me for not bringing any paperwork (which I wasn't told to bring) and was she was just very unprofessional with her tone and the way she talked to me on the phone. One of the vet techs brought me out a card to email my puppy's vaccanations to and said; "Dr. Patterson wanted me to give you this card, it is the most passive aggressive thing he has every said to me, so here you go". this was a terrible experience. people bring their dogs to a vet to feel welcomed, comforted and safe, not the feeling I got from this place. read more

This place has bent over backwards for my fur family. They are so nice that my lab literally leaps out of the window to get to her favorite tech and they've seen us through losses too. There is a lady named Shelby who is so comforting and helpful. When I called for an urgent ear infection for my little girl Gracie, Shelby scrambled and got her in and by the time we got home Grace was feeling so much better. Took our 12 week old puppy's here for a check up and we were not real happy. We called the day before the appointment to ask if there was anything we needed to bring and they said no. So we take them the day of their appointment and they didn't even bother to test for roundworms because we didn't bring a stool sample. Now wouldn't I have brought one if they told me the day before to bring one?? I wanted my pup tested (and treated for them if necessary) because her brother was hospitalized for roundworms and a parasite that made him extremely sick 1.5 weeks ago. They didn't even bother to do the follow up bloodwork that was on the hospital paperwork we gave them. I don't know if this is common practice for this place or if things are just different because of the COVID 19 craziness, but I'm extremely unhappy and won't be taking my babes back here. read more

As I've worked in the vet field before for many years, I can be one of those clients that asks a lot of questions, has specific requests, etc. I have always been treated with respect and I truly feel that they care about my pets as if they were their own. I have no qualms about bringing any of my pets here, from my tiny little cat to my large German Shepherd. They are excellent with both of them. The techs are fantastic as well. Dr. Blasses and Amanda are kind and compassionate. They took great care of Kipper when he was in for both his well dog check up, and again a week later for his dental cleaning. They're thorough and made sure everything was covered and explained everything to me. When I showed concern about my 11 year old Kipper having anesthesia, they reassured me he was in great health and would do fine. He did. They went over aftercare and "possibilities" so that I'd be prepared to care for Kip at home. Everyone at this office that I've dealt with has been very nice and courteous. Pattersons is awesome! Highly recommend them. Yes, you may have to wait a bit because of COVID, but that's expected anywhere right now. So, bring a book or something, while you're waiting. They are always friendly and very thorough. My pup came down with a kidney infection out of nowhere. Still not sure what caused it. At the time, we weren't sure if it was going to go away or if it was going to have to be a lifetime treatment. Dr. Blasses explained everything that we would need to do and what would happen next if this was the outcome. She did all the necessary tests and took all the necessary precautions. Thankfully, with all the antibiotics and tests, it ended up just being an infection and going away. Had they not been there, we may have still been treating our pup. Pattersons may be on the pricier side, but I want a vet who truly cares about my pup. My pup is like my child, so I'm willing to spend extra for whatever needs to be done. Plus, I want a vet I can trust! So, thank you for everything you do Pattersons! Not sure why others have such negative reviews. My dogs just had their first curbside visit and loved it! I've been taking my dogs to Patterson's since around 1994, five different dogs. All the veterinarians and technicians are knowledgable, professional and very nice. My dogs usually see Dr Wilson and they get excited when they see her and she is very thorough and sweet to them. And when Dr Wilson isn't there the other veterinarians they've seen are just as professional and nice. Would highly recommend this vet! read more

We have been using Patterson Veterinary for 20 years but after this last ordeal with them I will never ever go back to them. The way the staff talks to people and treats them like shit is disgusting. Way over priced and just down right horrible service and treatment. My dog had major surgery and they can't even have the consideration to contact my husband to let him know the doctor wasn't going to be in. He sat in this heat for over 35 minutes with our dog waiting to have the staples taken out and they finally call him back and say oh there's no doctor today. We were treated with dignity and without pressure from our initial phone call to being fit into the schedule, through the diagnostic process and, ultimately, to euthanizing our girl. Honestly I wouldn't even give them any stars. The receptionist was very rude. Doctors really didn't give any information on what type of worms my cat had. I dropped off a stool sample to them due to worms my cat had and they charged my $30 because they had to send it to the lab. Not a problem. We waited over an hour to be seen, and this was with an appointment! The visit for basic shots wasn't too expensive, but they greatly misrepresented what the price for a dental cleaning would be. On the phone, they said $65 to extract one tooth (all I wanted was one extraction, not a cleaning). In person they gave me an estimate for $700. Well, that didn't happen. The vet also lectured me (a physician) about the dangers of feeding my dog raw food. Overall was not very impressed with this place. read more

I use to like this vet with my cats until I got my dog and took her here. Her first visit was for her anal glands to be cleaned and she was a nervous wreck. Once they finished they brought her out and said she did great and everything looked good. I thought I would be able to leave after that since it was done but they insisted I see the vet so they could charge me more. The vet didn't even greet me or get to know my dog he quickly shoved a needle in her neck of a shot I had no knowing of what it was and wrote me a prescription for a cream I did not need. So my originally $60 bill doubled in price. I felt like they didn't care about me or my dog just my money. I recently switched vets and even though their prices are higher the amazing and kind staff make up for it! Cheaper is not always better read more

I feel like when I used them as my vet they weren't the most caring. My dog had a new onset seizure before office hours and I asked if I needed to come in after I left the emergency clinic and the receptionist said she would ask my vet and have them call menace. After waiting until almost closing time I called to tell them the doc hadn't called me and to see if I needed to come in and the receptionist was so rude! She told me "yea, I know, he's not in today" I was so mad... Wasting my whole day at home waiting for a call... She could have told me he wasn't in that day! Although the staff was very nice and caring of my cat. Dr. Patterson jumped into a $1400 exploratory surgery with her, saying she could have cancer in her intestines. After SEVERAL phone calls and 2 weeks later to receive her test results, there was nothing wrong at all, just a hairball that needed to pass through. Instead of trying different methods to get her to pass the hairball, he decided to jump into surgery and worry me that there was something seriously wrong with my cat. I will NOT be returning to Patterson in the future. read more

Dr. Patterson and his staff are truly caring and well trained professionals. When my oldest cat needed urgent surgery on his eye for ocular cancer, Dr. Patterson and his assistants helped me feel at ease every step of the way. They make sure the animals are kept as comfortable and pain-free as possible while educating the pet's parents on exactly what is wrong, what needs to be done and how to care for the animal once you are home.
