I would like to take this time to publicly thank the personnel in general and Dr. Julie Schneider…read morein particular of Cape Horn Veterinary Associates for having saved the life of our beloved little dog Bella who was in the early stages of a deadly pyometra. Words alone will never adequately convey how grateful we are for the successful labors of Dr. Schneider and her staff in sparing my wife Marcia and I the unspeakable tragedy of losing Bella so soon. Yet in expressing our thanks, we would be remiss in not publicly owning up to the error in judgment we made as pet owners in never having had Bella spayed. So let the following serve as a cautionary tale to those who bring their pets to Cape Horn and any facility which treat our four legged furry family members. It goes without saying that no pet should ever suffer, let alone perish, as a result of his/her's owner(s) mistake; however innocent & unintentional that mistake may be. In Bella's case, I had never even heard of pyometra, which Dr. Schneider explained is an infection of the uterus which often develops in un-spayed dogs & cats; an infection which is always fatal if not immediately treated and causes the animal great pain. Now spaying any pet is not cheap & it is certainly an unpleasant experience for the pet. As Dr. Schneider also pointed out it is considered in more than a few countries as a form of animal abuse/mutilation and is thus outlawed. Yet it is a well established fact that spaying & neutering your dog & cat, especially the females, reduces the risk of your pet developing this infection almost to nothing. Yes, times are tough for a lot of people & this understandably leads some individuals to decide not to spay & neuter their pets for cost saving reasons, particularly if the pet is kept inside as was the case with Bella. Yet we, my wife & I learned to our distress and to great risk to our little dog's life, that we made a mistake; a horrible mistake by not having had Bella spayed due to the cost when we should have. Of course over time this delay led to a much greater expense and the near loss of Bella herself. We were fortunate that were now in a position to handle this crisis. Had it occurred at any time during the previous seven years of Bella's life we would not have been and Bella would have been lost. So to those of you who are reluctant to have your pets fixed for financial or other reasons, let it be understood that a failure to act now will more likely than not result in a much higher cost later; either in the form of emergency surgery to combat the infection, the loss of your pet as a result of it, or both. In closing, let it be said that there is nothing really redeeming in a blunder such as this except for the fact that by publicly owning up to it, my wife and I may perhaps prevent others from repeating our mistake, and thus spare them from having to absorb the high cost to their pet and to themselves that such a mistake will invariably entail. Again, my most hearty thanks to Dr. Schneider and the staff of Cape Horn Associates. May future clients who walk through your doors be secure in the knowledge that their beloved babies will receive the best possible care and in the most loving of hands. We put out baby to bed on a Saturday night and by Sunday morning she was bleeding bad. I called him early that morning and he said I will be right over, which meant him getting out of bed early on a Sunday morning to drive to our house in the rain, and he let her go to her next journey in life. This was 10 years ago. I cannot tell you enough that Dr. Amin showed so much compassion to us and our baby and has continued to do so with all our babies. Now, I just saw a post for 12/29/25, and I found this post to be very upsetting. Never in all my years of going to Dr. Amin and I might say my first visit with him as well, did he say we ask to many questions. I have never found him to be of the culture of getting money out of the patient. In fact, he has always been about saving his patients money. So, for this person to state something so negative is absolutely absurd. So, with my ending statement on this matter, it is a good thing you did find another vet, as you are not worthy of such an amazing vet. Dr. Amin is one of the most caring vets I have met. His love for his profession is a testament to us all. I will scream from the roof tops that this man Dr. Amin should be your next call for you to be a patient of his!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I pulled into the parking lot with a dog suffering heat stroke and one of the vet techs/nurses happened to be returning the trash bin at the same time. She took my 75 pound bulldog right out of my hands and rushed him to the back. The Drs, nurses, and techs were able to safely bring his body temperature down from 109 to 103 within an hour. They were very compassionate and explained the treatment options and likelihood of survival extremely well. After a 2 day stay and another 5 days at home in bubblewrap, our boy's bloodwork has come back clean and he is nearly his old self again. Thank you to everyone!

I voiced my concerns about this, but instead of addressing them, I was told they only want patients who "appreciate" the services they provide. While the doctors are skilled, it seems that if you raise questions or express dissatisfaction, it isn't welcomed. If you want a practice that provides good medical care but aren't someone who may need to voice concerns, this clinic might work for you. For me, I need a place where both my pet's health and my concerns as an owner are heard.

We foster kittens, one of our kittens had a heart murmur and we were quoted $600 elsewhere to get him neutered. Dr Jehna knew about the situation and that we rescue kittens with our own money, she neutered him for much less. They hold shot clinics at their office and Steelton Cats over the weekends, plus neuter and spay stray cats at Steelton Cats. They are not only compassionate about their clients animals but also the community as well! They have always cared so much about our pets, I couldn't imagine going anywhere else.

All of this was for urinary infection and bladder stones that are made up of mostly calcium. I am not sure if this will re-occur or not and neither does Neffsville. $10,711 for urinary infection and bladder stones, including follow-up visits seems like a money machine in and out and pay high costs, at least to me.

We started going for their puppy socializing program when he was just five or six months old. He was introduced to new people, sounds, smells, and other typical vet stuff in addition to getting good play time with other pups his age and size. It was invaluable exposure for a breed that's known for both their general aloofness and aversion to being touched/groomed. Our pup is over a year old now and has outgrown the puppy program, but we continue to take him for daycare once a week and he still loves it. Nick and the resort team are fantastic to work with - easy scheduling, good communication, reasonable rates, and they are always just as happy to see my boy as he is to see them on his daycare days. It's convenient to get his shots/boosters scheduled while he's there for the days as well as the occasional nail trimming. We haven't taken advantage of the groomers yet, or the trainers, but those are two more convenient services they offer. We have boarded him for a couple overnights and one longer weekend and he has been comfortable and comes home happy and tired every time. Since the pandemic started, they have offered curbside service as an option, and they use the PetDesk app, which makes tracking Billings and loyalty points a snap (the more services you pay for, the more perks you earn - like a free nail clipping or free night boarding, etc.). But for those less tech savvy, or just not interested in downloading another app, they're also excellent at picking up the phone when you call and quickly and professionally taking care of whatever you need with email or printed bills for your records. My pup and I really cannot recommend the Neffsville team enough. And I know they have a great vet staff who specialize in the common domestic pets as well as some surprising ones like tarantulas, snakes, and rodents. Follow them on social and you'll see what a wonderful staff they have and all the great services they offer. You won't be disappointed!
