The ocean was calm, conditions were excellent, and we weren't surrounded by multiple tour boats. For long stretches it genuinely felt like we had the reef to ourselves. Sam and Ella were in-cred-ible. Professional, knowledgeable, and very clearly people who love what they do. They struck the perfect balance of being attentive while still letting everyone enjoy the experience naturally. We felt extremely safe the entire time, and they were just genuinely joyful humans to spend the morning with. And I have to mention the turtles. We saw at least eight. Not just in the distance-- they were everywhere. Below us in the reef, gliding past us at the surface, popping up for air unexpectedly. At one point we were actively looking around just to make sure we weren't about to bump into one. Also...calling them "little" would be inaccurate. Some of these turtles were big-- absolutely stunning animals. Swimming alongside them, surrounded by hundreds of reef fish, was one of those rare travel moments that sticks with you. It was quite confusing to find the meetup point at the beginning, but asking the hotel staff did help us getting there. We went on the high-tide day so needed to walk a bit from the usual boarding area. Probably helpful to remind people wearing slippers as you'd need to take shoes off. They did provide proper and plenty storage spaces for your footwear on the boat (appreciated!). Drinks were pretty much bottomless and they had their very own Mai Tai so you could really enjoy the 'complete Hawaiian package'! The only problem with high tide day, it meant be prepped to get wet and going on and off the boat would be quite tricky as you needed to manage timing to avoid the tide from getting you soaking wet. Multiple guests were getting seasick, as the Captain tried his best to navigate the waters. One guest nearly fainted and after that, the atmosphere on the boat changed. The Captain wasn't talking much and it seemed as if he just wanted to get back to the dock. Knowing the weather conditions, I wish the tour was rescheduled. We saw some fish and barely saw a turtle. I know the tour doesn't guarantee seeing wildlife, but it was disappointing hardly seeing anything in the glass bottom. To add, the glass bottom is just 4 boxes that you have to peek over to see. I didn't get seasick, so it was still nice to be out on the water and enjoying the views of the ocean. Prior to the incident, the captain was very educational and funny. Overall, had the tour been on a different day with more permitting weather, I think it would've been great.

MANA sunset cruise from Ko Olina - the absolute highlight of our trip!!!…read more We are no strangers to Catamaran excursions - trips in the British Virgin Islands, Greece, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. By far, Captain Travis and First Mate Taylor were exceptional, leaving no detail to chance. We were warmly greeted with a drink and were given a very thorough safety briefing. Both were meticulous in their duties to their craft as well as to their guests. The catamaran was immaculate, an outstanding demonstration of the care and maintenance it receives - impressive for a 2008 Cat. Thanks MANA and crews for your care and concern. We had only 5 of us aboard ( they allow a maximum of only 6) which really enhanced the experience. As we got underway drinks were served and then came what I thought was going to be a sampling of local snacks. No, it was a full dinner made by Taylor that was some of the freshest, best food we have had on the Island, followed by a dessert second to none. The other guests dietary restrictions were taken into consideration and we sailed (and for a portion of the trip we were under full sail & not motoring) around with soft Hawaiian reggae playing. The two hours flew by.... We were regaled with stories of the Islands and some very interesting facts. Sure there are less expensive, far more crowded sunset tours... but NOTHING compares to this one. It was worth every cent. When we return we will have already booked this trip before we board our again! Do yourself a favor, splurge on a really personal Hawaiian experience and book this trip. You will be richly rewarded & have memories for years to come! There may be no traffic jams on the extra mile... but you will find on this excursion, Captain Travis & First Mate Taylor are on the extra mile & demonstrate what the extra mile should look like! A very important note - we recommend if you are coming from the Waikīkī area that you plan on leaving early and planning a light lunch at Ko Olina - the Monkeypod, or one of the restaurants in the hotels. The traffic leaving Waikiki in the afternoon is horrible in the afternoon and could take several hours to navigate to Ko Olina.
