The ocean was calm, conditions were excellent, and we weren't surrounded by multiple tour boats. For long stretches it genuinely felt like we had the reef to ourselves. Sam and Ella were in-cred-ible. Professional, knowledgeable, and very clearly people who love what they do. They struck the perfect balance of being attentive while still letting everyone enjoy the experience naturally. We felt extremely safe the entire time, and they were just genuinely joyful humans to spend the morning with. And I have to mention the turtles. We saw at least eight. Not just in the distance-- they were everywhere. Below us in the reef, gliding past us at the surface, popping up for air unexpectedly. At one point we were actively looking around just to make sure we weren't about to bump into one. Also...calling them "little" would be inaccurate. Sam and Maci were amazing tour guides. Highly recommend booking on their smaller -6 person max catamaran for a much more elevated experience. Adrianna and Kelsie are the greatest crew! We were barely out of the harbor and they took us over to a school of spinner dolphins they saw. They pulled up by 2 large turtles swimming on top of the water. We got our money's worth before we even jumped into the water! They have a maximum of 6 snorkelers so it's easier to guide us and slip us by those large groups. We saw approximately 18 turtles and lots of fish. Everything was great! Very friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable crew. The catamaran was in excellent condition and was very comfortable. They had plenty of drinks for us and had the gear for whatever we wanted to do. We snorkeled and swam, mostly. We git to see the turtles among other fish out there. They were very kind to me as I dont swim alot. Had the lady assist me and pull me along ger side the entire session. Very communicative and the gentlemen stayed behind in the boat as my 81 yrs old mom was watching from boat. We did the noon semi-private tour and had a great time! The water was a bit cloudy at the main stop, but the crew quickly pivoted and took us to another area with much better visibility. Fewer turtles there (we only saw one), but spotting dolphins and even a whale throughout the trip more than made up for it! Huge shoutout to Sam and Maciel. Tried to get in a last minute Whale watching trip before we left Hawaii the next day but everything basically sold out online so I looked up a few places and called these guys. They were also sold out but offered a private charter for up to six people for a Sunset cruise that they would turn into a whale watch cruise so I nabbbed it. Went with a couple of friends, way better than going with a crowd of people. Brought some booze and poke with us. Met the captain and his mate at the dock and basically asked what we wanted to do. So he recommended a nice snorkeling spot and then we would cruise around looking for dolphins and whales. The snorkeling spot was great, near Diamond head, Tons of fish and bunch of sea turtles, got some great pics. Then off to see a few dolphins u distant no whales today. The two man crew were really great and accommodating. The boat was nice and the ride was surprisingly smooth, we all thought it was going to be bumpy but no issues and a great sunset to boot! read more

We had an amazing experience on the turtle snorkeling tour with the crew aboard Hawaii Ocean Charters in February. Our tour date was shifted a day due to the ocean swells and we ended up with a super small group. The crew treated us like family and were super kind to my little kids from the second we met them. They were super knowledge about the area we were snorkeling in as well as all parts of the island, and answered all of our questions. Not only did they lead us to the turtles that were popping up around us and pointed to the ones on the floor of the ocean, but also led us around the reef area where we saw so many kinds of fish. The main leader in the water held my 5 year old son on her board and took him around and the crew on board the ship helped my 3 year old feel comfortable on the boat (he was scared) and feed the fish (they use acceptable fish food). We lucked out and had clear water conditions and were able to see the reef below. I highly highly recommend this tour and crew- they went beyond expectations to make our time memorable and comfortable for each member of our family. We had a amazing time snorkling at the sea turtle canyon. The boat was perfect, clean with plenty of space for everyone. My husband and I were a little nervous at first at getting into the open ocean due to the rough serf at the sight but the captian and his team were very kind and patient helping us each step of the process and we really enjoyed the experience once we were in the water. The turtles and fish were very active in the area and water was very clear. Turtles would swim to the surface near us and then take their time swimming down to join the other turtles at the bottom of the canyon. The fish were fun too they had no fear of people and it was fun to see schools of different kinds so close up! Very thrilling we will remember it forever! The Best Snorkeling Charter for Families - Skip the Crowds! We booked a Semi private snorkeling trip with Hawaii Ocean Charters through Viator, and it was worth every penny! As a family of five with three boys under 11, we wanted something personal--and this was exactly that. While other tours had 20-30 people crammed on a boat with maybe one or two guides, we had the incredible Francesco and Masi all to ourselves. It started with light rain, but they quickly wiped down the front seats so we could enjoy the ride once it cleared. They shared cool local stories and made the whole trip feel so relaxed and engaging. Masi was amazing with our kids--guiding them in the water, pointing out turtles, fish, even sea urchins! Our oldest felt a little seasick, and Francesco was quick with some ginger candy to help. They even gave us extra time in the water and some awesome lunch recs (check out Pioneer Station in the Salt area--so good!). Absolutely amazing experience!!! First they were so accommodating in helping us move our reservation as rain was expected during our scheduled time. Fortunately there was an open slot the next morning. We went out with Chase and Sam....the best! They may do this 4-5 times a day but they made us feel like we were their first customers. Beyond impressed with our experience with Hawaii Ocean Charters! We set out on Christmas Eve with captain Sam and Mossy and they were soooo nice, friendly, and were so sweet to our girls (8 and 4 year olds). We chartered with them privately for 2 hours and had the best time cruising down Waikiki as the sun came up, followed by a snorkel which was guided by Mossy. Amazing! Capt Francesco was super accommodating when a tropical rain storm was headed through Hawaii. He reached out in advance to check our availability for the full week and was able to shuffle us around based on the weather. My young kids didn't fully take to snorkeling in the open ocean, but the crew was really helpful in engaging them and trying to keep them busy. They learned a lot from Nick, the reef guide. We got to see turtles and even got a visit from dolphins. I also got a little seasick and they were very sympathetic and forgiving to me tossing my cookies on the side of the boat.
