The pepperoni pizza was excellent. The crust had a great texture with a light crisp on the outside and just the right amount of chew. The sauce was flavorful without overpowering the toppings, and the pepperoni was generous and cooked perfectly. It tasted fresh and homemade from the first bite to the last. The garlic knots were fantastic. Soft, warm, and loaded with garlic flavor, they were easily some of the best we've had. The salad was fresh, crisp, and a great complement to the meal. What really stood out was James himself. You can immediately tell that he loves what he does and takes pride in his restaurant. He was welcoming, friendly, and genuinely interested in making sure guests had a great experience. It is refreshing to visit a place where the owner is so invested in both the food and the people walking through the door. The atmosphere was comfortable and relaxed, and the entire experience felt personal rather than rushed. Places like this are becoming harder to find. One thing visitors should know is that the restaurant is cash only. That wasn't a problem for us, and there is an ATM available at a nearby gas station if needed. Just come prepared so you can focus on enjoying the food. This was one of our favorite meals during our time on the Big Island. Great food, great service, and a restaurant that clearly reflects the passion of its owner. We will definitely be back on a future visit.

I went to Pau the other day for lunch, hoping for some decent pizza, and was sorely disappointed. First of all, your ordering options are limited. You can order a whole pizza or you can order a slice of one of two types of topping combos they are offering that day, but you can't order a custom slice. Every pizza place I've been to for lunch lets you order a custom slice. It makes even less sense for Pau to not let you do this since their crusts are prebaked and sitting in a pile in their kitchen. So, I chose a lunch combo (slice of pizza and salad) and my husband ordered a whole pizza. The salad was good; very fresh greens with a tasty dressing. But the pizza was terrible. The sauce was so sweet it tasted like a mix between ketchup and Spaghetti-O sauce. The toppings were ok, except for the kalamata olives on my slice- super salty and overpowering. And the crust was tasteless and stale. On the upside, the place was clean and service fast. read more

Pau has delicious food and great service. We stopped by when all other places were closed for lunch. They have great pizza (recommend the Whole Hog) and you must, ABSOLUTELY MUST, have the cheesy bread. Delicious! We ordered two of them to share between the 6 of us, and it was barely enough. I also had the wonderful tortilla soup which was creamy and just a tiny bit spicy. My friends each got a dessert and they were also so decadent. Highly recommend! read more

I like going here when I need "something else". The Super food salad is awesome. The pizza is always different. There is a good mix of flavors and the daily pizzas usually have one with just veggies or one with meat. I really like the Grinder sandwich. In a place that' s hard to find good sandwiches nearby, I am glad this place is open consistently. Anything your'e in the mood for can be found here when you want to get away from the "same ole"bland flavors. read more

Pau is my go-to restaurant whenever I'm on the Big Island. It never disappoints! I went for lunch today with my husband. I had the Superfood salad with chicken and he had the Fish Sandwich. So good! He thinks it's the best fish sandwich on the island! The friendly waiter said they'll be running a Big Island Beef New York steak special tonight, so we're looking forward to going back for dinner. I love eating at Pau! The specials are wonderful, particularly the stuffed portabela. The Vitners Salad is delicious, even better with the fresh fish of the day added to the top ! Perfectly cooked fish! The pizza is wonderful, the local goat cheese is my favorite topping. Have a beer, get some ice cream. The restaurant is child friendly and locally very popular. Been to Pau a few times before and it was good but under new owners Mike and Mele it is even better--great menu, excellent THIN crust pizza, fast service. Next to famous Merriman's restaurant which is $$$$$$ but Pau is very affordable and unpretentious. Good selection of bottled beers and wine by the glass. Two very large tacos in an order; apparently you can order one and combine with something else on the menu. 5 different desserts, all housemade, three of which are beyond memorable. 1) the Key Lime Pie is actually a monster slice of a Key Lime ICE CREAM pie. The Key Lime ice cream was perfectly copied from a key lime pie. 2) Pineapple Sorbet. More like frozen whipped pineapple than the puréed consistency you'd expect. Loaded with fresh pineapple! Very large serving! 3) Mud Pie, for the friend who orders Mud Pie whenever it's on the menu. She was blown away by the size of the slice and by the quality of every aspect of it. Note: the restaurant is quite a walk from parking. Valets will run you down and back up in a golf cart if you ask. We needed the exercise!

I made a reservation for my friend birthday, we were not staying at the resort. The staff at the Four Seasons were fantastic, very friendly and helpful. We were given a ride to the restaurant in a golf cart, which was fun in itself. It was already dark when we arrived and may have been a bit difficult to find otherwise. The patio restaurant was beautiful, strings of lights, but with the ocean there, no other decor was needed. Our server was lovely and helpful, the right mix of friendly with giving space. They had a very nicely curated wine list, maybe the best I saw during my time in the island. The menu is focused, I think when this is done in the right way, the food is better for it. After debating, we shared the scallop appetizer and the fish. The scallops were very good, though I did not like one of the flavors of the sauce, though appreciated it was interesting and different. The fish was fantastic, creative and interesting flavors. It was entirely a wonderful experience. I recommend if you are celebrating a special occasion.

It was a lobster pizza loaded with garlic and huge chunks of lobster. Who knew close to 20 years after it closed I'd find a true gem on the side of the highway close to Waikola. Their pizza is made fresh to order and was absolutely loaded with toppings including what seemed to be a full tail of lobster. No idea how they do it for $20 but it was one of the best decisions I've made even if we get food poisoning (kidding, hopefully). Truly epic and if you see it there get it immediately.

Although I did enjoy the food, I had a couple gripes. First, they add a 15% surcharge to all orders, even though they make you order off the kiosk. I really don't understand why they do that, because you're basically inputting the order yourself. I wish they would just bake it into the prices because it seems kinda sketchy. That really drives the price up. The second is that their Maui root beer tap was down. My husband was really looking forward to a root beer float with root beer fresh from the tap. They were offering Barq's in the can as an alternative, but it's not the same. So while the food is good, beware that 15% and maybe call first if you have your heart set on a Maui Root Beer Float.
