Pies, smoothies, trifles, ice cream. Yum!! We purchased a bushel of apples on our last visit, which we cored/peeled/sliced using an inexpensive gadget from Target or Ace Hardware(?). Froze on cookie sheets then transferred to gallon bags. We bought some that were a bit soft for pie--maybe because we froze them?--but are great dehydrated (for us & our dogs!) or made into apple butter. (Pies? Ask for the firmest apple.)

It is worth a drive for the fun and privilege of being able to buy a wide variety of fruits and vegetables (as well as jellies, jams, dressings, and baked goods) that come straight from Spring Valley Farms and Orchards about 20 miles outside of town. Produce is usually picked the same day as it's sold, so you are getting food as fresh as it gets (unless you have your own garden). Their prices are always reasonable, sometimes lower than the grocery store, sometimes not, but the quality is outstanding. I live for their peaches in the summer. But don't miss their strawberries in the Spring, and their tomatoes... always something to look forward to. They grow them in high tunnels so they are available as early as March and they are delicious.
