Main Street both feels & looks like a home turned into a bakery, it also smelled delicious inside. The staff were super friendly and welcoming. They greeted us within seconds and also gave lots of great recommendations for shops/restaurants around town. This was my first time having quiche and Chef Chuck did not disappoint. The bread pudding was also amazing! Not normally a fan of raisins in baked goods but was still tasty. We ended up coming back Saturday morning for the cinnamon rolls and really glad we did. Mom my and I stopped here for coffee and breakfast while traveling to the Shenandoah State Park. We had a truly lovely time and cannot recommend enough! The outside was sweet and charming with a beautiful garden and the staff were absolutely the loveliest. We felt welcomed and at home. What a great place to stop by! The owner was very friendly and welcoming. I ordered the quiche, a gingerbread cookie, a couple of carrot cake cupcakes, and a pecan sweet potato muffin to go. This place is a hidden gem!!! I cannot speak highly enough of the food or the lovely people working. My husband and I had the quiche (ham and cheese) and Lordy!!!! She was so awesome!! The danish was so flaky (not bready), had crumbs down my shirt, always a good sign of quality pastry (dang was just before closing and only one was left). And breads. I purchased the rye, a dense bread with rye taste. Hmmmmm. Get off Rt 211, take the business loop to check out the town and stop in for quality baked goods. This review is long overdue. Main Street catered our wedding and rehearsal dinner in late 2018 and did an amazing job. Chef Chuck worked with us to develop a menu and added a lot of great ideas to tailor it to our preferences. The cajun food from our rehearsal dinner was especially a hit. They have always been great. I live in DC, but my parents are in Stanley. Years ago I placed a special order for chocolate cupcakes with bourbon icing! So delicious. I moved back home during covid and they became one of my regular stops for cakes, peanut butter pie, their dinner pop-ups. Main Street Bakery made my wedding truly memorable. They catered the reception dinner and dessert, as well as brunch the next day, and my family is still talking about how wonderful that food was. We had a sort of rustic/country wedding at Khimaira Farm, and we wanted the food to match the theme. We had the most delicious pulled pork BBQ, gouda mac and cheese, black bean tagine, and potato salad, with crab cakes and pesto stuffed mushrooms as appetizers. I highly recommend the crab cakes! For dessert, we had an assortment of pies and cupcakes. I still dream about that mixed berry pie. They also provided lemonade, iced tea, salad and rolls. Brunch the next day was absolutely wonderful, and Chuck and his crew made everything seamless and easy. We were staying at the River Bend Ranch, which Chuck knew very well, and he was able to set everything up in the kitchen there. Biscuits with white pepper gravy, assorted pastries and spinach and mushroom quiche. Everything wa delicious, and all of our guests really enjoyed the meal. For any future events like family reunions or anniversaries, I'll definitely be going back to Main Street! read more

I hope the the owner (Chuck) will forgive me for posting such a late review!! My husband and I planned to spend our 1 year anniversary in Luray. As we had a destination wedding and were not able to do the fun part of planning ie a cake tasting, I had the great idea to call a local bakery and set up a surprise tasting for my husband. I am so glad I came across Main Street Bakery & Catering! When I called Chuck was more than happy to accommodate my request and quite frankly his enthusiasm for the cake tasting got me excited! When we arrived, everything was wonderful. Chuck sat down with us and conducted the tasting as if we were actually planning our wedding. I really appreciate him giving us the experience we missed out. And the cakes were delicious! I had asked when I called to make sure there was a red velvet cake for us to taste as it is my husband's favorite. Not only did Chuck have it ready for us, but he also baked a small round red velvet cake for us to take back to our cabin. It was awesome and endearing! As we were not able to follow the tradition of saving the top tier of our wedding cake in the freezer to be cut on the one-year anniversary, this was the perfect alternative! A great little cafe situated inconspicuously along a row of stores, this is one of the best places to eat in town. It's small, with 5 or 6 tables in the front for seating. At peak times (weekends at noon I imagine is probably the worst) it gets quite crowded. Along the side wall, they have refrigerated and non-refridgerated wines for sale, and a decent selection to boot. Some are from Virginia, but some are from Italy and Argentina. My girlfriend and I stopped in here to grab lunch and grab a bottle of wine for later. The salad selection is not as extensive as the sandwich list, but the garden salad, at least was good. The sandwich list is pretty great, and may change from time to time. Prices are good and the staff is extremely helpful. I would definitely come here again. This is a great place to go before a hike to get some picnic supplies. read more

We came to Luray for my husband's birthday, and contacted the bakery a few weeks ago about a birthday cake to pick up while we were there. They were awesome to work with (we live 2+ hours away), did all of the planning by email, and the end result was delicious! So our wedding may have had a Harry Potter theme, and any good Hogwarts feast needs tasty, rich, fall, cozy food. Our wedding meal was the brainchild of Chef Chuck at Main Street Bakery and Catering (MSBC) in downtown Luray, VA. I supplied MSBC with a list of ideas prior to the tasting to narrow down what we were after. Understatement: I supplied them with a detailed multi-page explanation of how we envisioned the food pairing with the rest of the evening, the names of all attending the tasting, that the theme should feel Hogwartsian, etc. (I have attached the first page of this document, so that you can understand how focused brides get this done!) Danielle Painter said it was the most detailed explanation they had ever received. Heck yeah. Danielle worked with me over the coming weeks to help me tweek servings, pricing, and deal with the needs of many guests. She was a gem who understood we were pulling off an event, and that it was never finalized until it was served. Working with them was easy and fluid, we all were in this together, and we could make changes and ask questions up until the near end. The staff were hilarious and friendly, yet extremely professional. Chuck was exceptionally thoughtful in listening to what we thought we wanted, and helping us learn how pairings work, what we should aim for, and help shape our ideas so that they still retained our original ideas. Finally, their prices were GREAT. Seriously. This is a major part of why we looked to hold our wedding someplace like Luray instead of DC. We were dissapointed to find they didn't have any pies because the next day was Sunday and I'm assuming they are closed on Sundays.
