This was a surprisingly cool stop along our Virginia journey last year! Make sure you check the opening times. They have lots of parking and is free to visit. We looked around before we decided to try the free sample chips they off. We did purchase some to go. It was very clean inside, customer service was good. The workers are very knowledgeable about the chips and history of the business. The chips are very fresh and tasty. My favorite was the dill pickle. We went on the weekend, so we didn't get to see the staff actually making the chips. I thought it was pretty cool to visit a potato chip factory! Overall I do recommend a visit if your in the area. Roundtripping with no plans is the best, never know what you will find!

You just have to go! Make this a priority when visiting the Shenandoah area. It was definitely a cute place to go to. We went during a time that they were not making chips, but you could still look inside the factory and see. They also had great photos to show the process. The sampling is also a crowd pleaser. They had everything in mini bags. Perfect for sharing with my family of 4. We rated them and it created good conversation on what we liked, loved and disliked. They had a few things to purchase including bags of chips. So we got some chips and came home to let's others try.

Route 11 Potato Chips has some of the best chips in the game, so I decided to take an impromptu road trip to their factory in Mt. Jackson, VA. From Monday to Saturday you can watch how the potato chip process takes place through the large windows strategically placed throughout the factory. Free 1 ounce samples are provided so you can narrow down which bag of chips you want to purchase. I walked away with a big ole' bag of sour cream and onion chips that I enjoyed on my drive home.

Fun little stop on our road trip. It was not making them while I was there but still fun. They let us sample the chips, they were all good, the mama Zuma were too spicy, basically chernobyl in my mouth. The dill pickle one was really good, though. I found the mascot cute as well! Definitely stop if your in town.

This was such a fun experience! Unfortunately, Chip production and manufacturing is only Tuesday through Thursday and we visited on a Saturday. However, we were able to get a mini tour and look through the windows into the production area, as well as get information about the steps for production of the potato chips. After our little tour, we were given several 1 ounce bags of chips to sample and then purchased some larger sizes, based on what we enjoyed. The cost of the chips in the factory are a great deal compared to when you find them in other places. Our guide was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. I would definitely recommend for adults and kids alike.

What a cool and fun place to stop by on our way home! We arrived and were greeted immediately and asked if we would like a tour. It was amazing to learn about how the chips are produced and see it all in action through the windows. Once the tour was done, we were offered chip samples. I was thinking they would give us a few chips to try, but to my surprise we were given small individual bags of every flavor they offered. My kids were very excited to try it! You can purchase any flavor available in different sizes. My favorite flavor was the crab one!

Very fun experience, we got to the potato chip manufacturing center around 3pm on a Saturday and we got to try all of the samples and also purchased some of our favorite flavors. Staff were very friendly and helpful in choosing the flavors and options and it was a cool experience all around!

What a cool spot! I've had Route 11 potato chips at restaurants near where I'm from (Virginia Beach area) but didn't know there was an actual factory in VA! We were visiting local caverns when a tour guide mentioned this was close to Shenandoah Caverns so naturally we stopped by! We were quickly greeted and given information about the process and taken to a variety of windows where we could view this process. Afterwards we got a few chip samples and made our purchases. Such a fun stop on a road trip & you can grab some delicious chips to take home!

Enjoyed stopping by to sample the chips. They were not making chips that day but you can see the equipment and the lady was great explaining the process. Watch on Facebook and they update when they are making chips. I'm sure that's neat to see.

A wonderful quick foodie stop! We stopped here and got to see so many potato chips being made. I'm so glad we made it on a day they were cooking. You can't take pictures of the production line but it was definitely a wicked cool process too see. They let you sample literally all of the chips and give you a history and quick audible tour with windows to observe. I even got a free bag by liking their Facebook page. I surprisingly thing the dill pickle chips were my favorite, the rest were all very subtle in the seasonings besides the crab which was a little overbearing. The dill pickle chips reminded me of a fried pickle. Overall, if you are a foodie and are near by, I definitely think you should make a stop here and try some chips

Retail area. You can see how they make their chips through the windows

Great stop if you're driving on I-81 and need a little break. It's a small retail area with couple big windows where you can see how they make their chips and how they season them. We went on fry day so we got to sample fresh cooked potato chips before it gets seasoned. You can sample all their potato chips which was great. I really liked the BBQ, Sour cream and chives, Chesapeake Crab and Dill pickle. But the star was the Mama Zuma's revenge - it was hot and spicy. It goes really well with cold beer! We bought several bags of chips and other items. The tour is really brief. They cook 14,000 pounds of potatoes every day! I believe they get their potatoes from a farm close by this factory. Buy Route 11 chips in grocery stores to support this great local business.

Yesterday's visit we were lucky enough to stumble upon her farm on a volunteer day, and we stayed and helped plant tomatoes and were given a delicious dinner and cold beer for our efforts. Gail also gave us 3 dozen of her farm fresh eggs (from exotic breeds of the most beautiful and happy chickens on earth), tomato plants, various pepper plants, and herbs to start our own little garden this summer outside our little apartment in Arlington!! We couldn't be more excited. When we visit Deauville we always leave with more than we hoped for, and at the best price you can imagine. Gail does this to do her part in changing the world, not for a profit. She treat's her land with respect and you can quite literally taste the love in every last bite. We would be there every day if we could. If you are looking for the perfect day to spend outside in the Shenandoah valley picking your own veggies and gathering your own eggs head to Gail's. Also, check out her documentary 'DoeVille' if you have a screening near you - we aren't the only ones who have had our lives changed by this amazing woman.
