If you're looking for a place to sit in the dark, marinating in the scent of industrial-strength bleach, and not eat anything for 90 minutes, this Is your place. We waited an hour and a half at Paul Bunyan's and never saw a single plate of food. At the 60-minute mark, we politely asked for an update and were assured it would be "10 more minutes" -- which in Paul Bunyan time apparently means "never". Thirty minutes later, we tried to find a staff member, we briefly considered putting out a search party as the bar was filling up with people, scratching their heads, wondering where a bartender was. When we did locate someone, they told us there were six tickets ahead of ours... which is wild, considering there weren't even six groups in the building when we walked in. We were a group of five -- not exactly a wedding party. The bar wasn't full, the place was oddly silent, and I'm not saying it felt haunted, but if you told me they had just cleaned up a crime scene before we walked in, I wouldn't be surprised. The smell of cleaning products was overwhelming -- somewhere between a janitors closet and a mortuary. Sadly, I can't tell you how the food was -- we never received it. Maybe it's incredible. The menu is exactly what you'd expect, including burgers, wraps, steak, salads, nachos.. There's something for everyone. They have about ten beers on tap, including some local brews you can't get elsewhere. I had the Buffalo Wings, and a couple of IPA's, and the wife had the "Apple Salad", a combination of Spring mixed greens, chicken, apple, avocado and fresh feta cheese, and choice of dressing, and a couple Pinot Grigios. We were both very happy with our food and drinks. The service was great - supplied by my new favorite server, Mariah, who was personable and engaging. The prices were very reasonable , and the place is kid friendly. They're open all year round, seven days a week from early Spring to late October, and five days a week during the Winter. They serve lunch and dinner only. There is live entertainment sprinkled about the calendar, so call if you are interested in a show. The owners of this business have owned several restaurants, and have made this place a cross of Western history and imaginative story telling. We came here on the recommendation of a few locals. The reviews on Yelp made us a bit weary of the customer service, but we had an excellent experience here. Let me preface this review with saying that this establishment is understaffed, and they are doing their best to accommodate their patrons. I think people (tourists) have high expectations for a place that's doing everything they can to work with the worker shortage. Be patient with them. And be kind!! We were immediately told that the wait on food was 45 minutes. However, we got there 30 minutes before they closed the kitchen and there were a lot of people waiting. Since we're patient, we didn't mind. We got a drink and hung out for a while until we were seated. The hostess and waiter were both kind and answered all our questions (both about the food and the history of the restaurant). We ordered the cheese stuffed jalapeños and the Grizzly burger. Of course we waited a while, but again, we didn't mind because we knew already. The food was awesome! It was cooked to perfection and just the right level of spicy. My husband is Ranch-obsessed and asked for a few more. The staff had no problem giving him more even though the kitchen was technically closed. The restaurant itself is something to behold! It's so cool! Unfortunately, I didn't get pictures. Despite what the reviews about staff say, this is a place to visit if you're in the West Glacier area. This bar is really a work of art. We spent a while talking with the owner/builder, who came up with all the interior design work. With a Paul Bunyan/ lumberman theme, there are displays of huge antique chain saws, circular saws, huge two man saws and all kinds of custom ironwork welded by John, the owner. He brought the large antique quarter-sawn oak bar from Butte, and the whole place looks like it's been there for a hundred years, although it's only 4 years old. The bar sports a good selection of beer and mixed drinks. We didn't have the food, but the burgers from the kitchen smelled delicious! There's a kid's "Bull ride" machine (kind of like the mechanical ponies you used to ride in front of the grocery store), pool tables and more. We loved the vibe here and all the attention to detail they've put into collecting and curating the decor. The front door is a good example - the handle is an Ax buried into the wood of the door. Paul Bunyan indeed! This place is open year round and we were only sorry we discovered it on the last day of our visit. read more

We came in around 5:30pm on a Thursday night and the place was already busy. We waited to seating instructions right at the entrance. The entry door is engineered with weights so expect loud banging noises as the weights manage the heavy entry door. We were seated by the window in the bar area as the dining room was already crowded. Others showing up after us waited for available tables in the game room. Looked like several pool tables, a Jenna game, and a stage area for entertainment. Many waiting on tables were able to order from the bar until they got seated. Our host took our drink order and later came back for our food order. Almost an hour to wait in food, but I assure you, IT IS WORTH IT! The steaks we had were melt-in-your-mouth steaks, perfectly seasoned and flavorful! The green beans it is paired with was buttery and savory! The beer we had on tap, a scotch ale, was a dark beer but so smooth and was perfect with our steaks! We were checked on several times by several different people. Our host was male yet there was a female who seemed like she managed the wait and seating and food. If she isn't the owner of this place, she sure treated the business and us customers like she was! She was sweet, yet hard-working and so consistent with all of us dining in! If you're not in a hurry and you want great steaks, I highly recommend this place! We are definitely god we stopped in! We are locals from the North Fork and stopped in for some lunch for the first and last time. Our waitress, who we found out later is the owner, is the rudest person I've come across in a long while. I've met friendlier Rattle Snakes!!! She acted as though we were bothering her by showing up for some lunch and a few beers. I normally would have walked out but we had two friends with us and did not want to make an issue of it at the time. Now is the time! Service was the worst I've ever experienced in my life! The food is way over priced "Town Pump" style chow. Should have just went to Town Pump for same food and way better service. Bar interior was okay. Don't waste your time and money at this place. Needed to find dinner, so we chose this place. It's a cool little place for the area. The beer was cold and the food was good. Now for the service, that really needs improvement. Took a bit for the hostess to even acknowledge we were there. They were a little busy, but not bad. We were seated in the bar area, so the bartender was the server. Waited 10-15 minutes for him to come over to take drink order. Then another 10-15 to take our food order. We waited for over an hour for our food to arrive. That's why I gave this place three stars. PAUL BUNYAN's restaurant in West Glacier is a biiiiiiiiig PASS! Undeniably the most unprofessional staff I have ever came across in a restaurant. My family of 5, (7yo & 4yo twins) gave our name to the hostess and checked in. We were issued a pager. Afterwards we went back outside to have a seat and wait. 20 minutes later the hostess came outside had a seat and proceeded to smoke a cigarette, halfway through her cigarette, she looked over and said, "oh, by the way, our waitresses said they're no longer waiting on customers and the kitchen is closing now". PB's website states that they close at 10:00 PM. Please know this all occurred at 7:45 PM. I asked to speak to a manager, they informed me that there was no manager on site. We spotted this place on our way to Glacier and decided it looked like a fun place to try on our way out because of the beautiful log cabin outer appearance. Bad idea!! Nothing is made in-house. The broccoli cheese soup was so thick that my spoon stood straight up in it (MSG?) The soup was also room temp. Caesar salad was soggy and boring. They were out of French fries. The waitress forgot to put in one of our appetizers so it came at the end of our meal and she still charged us for it. The food is blah. The burgers, salad toppings, quesadilla, fried apps... all from frozen and ick.
