WORST DENTAL EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE: I went to Dr. Nylund at Santa Fe Family Dentistry with minor…read moresensitivity on one tooth and a small chip on another. I had no significant pain. What followed was an eight-week ordeal of constant pain, multiple failed procedures, and complete administrative chaos. Dr. Nylund performed a crown and a filling. Both had to be redone entirely by other dentists. The crown was ill-fitting, had a gap, and ultimately caused a severe infection and swelling, which led to a two-part root canal. A prosthodontist and an endodontist later confirmed that the crown was improperly fitted. See dental notes in photo. The temporary crown fell out twice. They said, "Oh this happens." It doesn't have to. I went to Dr. Balderamos here in SF who is amazing to have it redone. His temp crown stayed on for 4 weeks and I could eat anything on that side. The permanent crown fell out as well. When I returned in extreme pain and told them the crown did not fit and that I was in tremendous pain, they shoved it back on, shaved it down, and sent me on my way. The pain continued and worsened. The left side of my face swelled like a balloon and had to have emergency appts. Over the course of this situation, I had to attend 13 dental appointments: most of them just trying to fix what should never have happened. To make matters worse, dealing with the office staff was a complete NIGHTMARE. Santa Fe Family Dentistry told me I would receive a refund and that the insurance claim would be reversed so the new provider could bill correctly. It took over two months, with weekly calls and sometimes multiple calls per week, sometimes 2-3 times a day, to get this resolved. I had to chase them constantly just to get them to do what they promised. Ultimately, someone from Delta Dental had to call their office twice to actually get it resolved. Despite all of this, I am still out nearly $3,000, not to mention the enormous amount of pain, stress, lost time, and emotional toll this caused. I walked into this office with a minor issue. I walked out with weeks of pain, a root canal, multiple specialists, and the worst dental experience of my life. I would never recommend Dr. Nylund or Santa Fe Family Dentistry to anyone.

Everyone seems nice and they were kind and understanding that I'm a dental chicken. lol I was a little irritated that they did not. Let me know that when you sign up for an appointment on the website it's only for x-rays. It does not include a cleaning. If it was me, I would fix that.

I find her to be very intelligent compassionate and kind. She listens well and I'm very happy with her work. My only concern with the office is they do not give out any painkillers pain medication and this is very disturbing as I had an extraction done and it's been 6 days and I'm still in pain. New Mexico may have a problem with distributing pain medication but the status not the fault of patience who are currently experiencing pain we should not have to pay the price for the negligible prescriptions written by doctors years ago. I hope that the dentist at dentistry on St Mike's get there authorization to be able to give pain medication soon and when they do I will have another crown done with Dr Ivers I highly recommend Dr Ivers so nowcan I add to my review the front desk especially Desiree is wonderful and annalize and Lisa are also extremely friendly and professional that's what I want to add thank you Therese

What could improve? Bigger office. Working areas for staff and patients are all much, much too…read moresmall. "Dentistry on St. Michaels" feels start to finish a little like a pop-up dentistry in a war zone; a bit of exciting atmosphere but not a recommended one. I was told I must return to the office within two days after my root canals for permanent crowns--but each time staff on phone--after my root canals--told me sorry, no appts available for weeks--sorry. Over weeks and even one time over a month--I had to fear temp crowns would break or become infected and a new root canal could be needed. Appts that should take a half hour can take three hours, as you do not have staff devoted to just you and your appt. They, poor things, the jumping-around staff, must leave you to go work on many other people and eventually, many people later, wind their way back to you, you waiting and wondering and listening and tense in your chair. I am a survivor of a two-day sepsis episode in an ICU years ago: I now for peace of mind and possibly to prevent another dangerous episode require two tiny amoxicillin capsules before any dental appt. All dental offices all my life have given these to me on request, but not this one: a clearly angry office manager did not believe me about my surgeries, or the metal hardware in my leg, or my previous sepsis infection; she told me I must bring in something signed by one of my former surgeons. Amoxicillin these days is cheap and does not harm the patient in that tiny dose, my surgeon said to me; he said I must always request it. He said he was puzzled by their need for me to prove my need--said he couldn't make them give me amoxicillin, all he could do was write the note, and hope it helped. If you come in for a cleaning you can be stunned to hear, when you ask "No Xray exams?" that no, there won't be, that day, because your dentist is only in two days a week, and your dentist would have to review them. Three days of the week your dentist is in Albuquerque. Make another appt for the exams, please! I thought one day it was my duty to tell the dentist after a pain injection that it was the most painful shot I had ever experienced. To my horror, the dentist simply looked at me, eyes unchanged, and let the comment fade. That dentist's day, I suddenly realized, had been so crazy and overpacked and harrowing she was at wits' end. The shot was done and that had been all that mattered. No thanks to all. Apparently that "Saint" in their title is meant to cover a lot of sins of omission, and express hope that something run on the cheap in too small an office and with too few dentists in a town too terribly desperate for good dental care--can cheerfully wing it and survive. I wish each and every one of these employees at "Dentistry on St.Michaels"--desk staff and hygienists and even the dentists--finds a next and better place to be. And each helps the rest to do so, too. (In the majority of the staff there is a real sweetness.) You all deserve a better and prouder place, just as any wishing-on-a-star dental patient does.

From the moment I walked in, they made me feel genuinely safe, seen, and comfortable. They were incredibly patient, checked in with me throughout the appointment, and offered breaks whenever I needed them--something that made a huge difference for me. Dr. Pisotti's calm, compassionate approach and the kindness of his staff helped me get through an appointment I would normally dread. I am extremely grateful to him and his team for the care and understanding they showed. I went to Vida requesting new whitening trays. Dr. Detrik talked me into having the much more…read moreexpensive teeth whitening treatment done, saying its actually so good for the teeth, really wonderful chemistry and better than any other kind of whitening treatment and also, Id get the whitening trays along with the treatment. I say sure, go for it. Dial forward, Im in the chair getting this treatment done and the hygenist notes that my teeth are "already paper white." She seems a bit worried about the whitening going too far. We go through the treatment and afterward Im handed a bag that does not have whitening trays in it. I ask Dr. Detrik where they are. He says "Oh, you really dont need them, your teeth are already white. I had them include a light that you can use instead but honestly you dont really need to." I say nope, I want trays, isnt that what you did the whole high-tech super accurate mapping of my mouth for? Isnt that what I actually came here for, and what I actually paid for? Not this light that I could have bought on Amazon for $20?" So they ORDER my trays. Mind you, I had just paid them to put goop on my teeth to open the surface of my teeth chemically to allow the HOME tray treatment to work better. You are supposed to have the treatment then follow up with whitening trays the following two weeks because THAT is when the whitening happens. At home, with the trays. The trays he didnt order at the time I paid for this treatment because he was very clear in his mind that I do not actually NEED the 3k treatment he talked me into doing. And the trays? They arrived via mail about a month later. Far too late for the at home whitening to benefit from that treatment I just went through, spent so much money on. So, you tell me? What is the top priority for this dentist, this office? Is the top priority caring for your teeth in a clinically appropriate, and necessary way? Or is it $omething el$e?
