I made an appointment with Heidi, the receptionist who was very detailed and friendly. She was able to get me in to see the doctor next day. Once I entered I was greeted by Heidi and Dr. Nguyen. Had a wonderful conversation about time change and music, which they were playing classic rock and oldies! Dr. Nguyen was quick and efficient! He went over what he was going to do to figure out my teeth situation. Ended up doing a CT scan to get into a better understanding. Found out that I needed a root canal! Heidi went over the insurance and charges and steps to take. Dr. Nguyen was able to get my root canal done in less than 30 minutes. Quick and efficient, "quifficient!" Dr. Nguyen then went over next steps, any possible issues, medications I can take. And the best news? I don't have to wait to eat after the procedure. I would say that Hiedi and the doctor were very pleasant, direct, super friendly, and efficient. If I need to see anything in endodontics, Dr. Paul Nguyen is 5 stars!

Pre-op and post-op images of root canal on tooth #14

I've always heard that a root canal can be one of the most unpleasant experiences a person can endure. Right up there with passing a kidney stone or giving birth. And having worked in the dental industry for 13 years, I've seen and heard many horror stories, including the notion that "a root canal is a future implant case." So I had no shortage of trepidation when my dentist suggested today that I likely had need of endodontic treatment. Fortunately, she referred me to Dr. Nguyen, whose impeccable credentials helped to ease some of my initial fear. My experience only improved from there. First, his office was able to adjust their appointment calendar to fit me in within the hour. The office manager was extremely gracious and polite, and the check-in process was simple and straightforward. Dr. Nguyen proceeded to introduce himself, take a few quick X-rays, run a few tests, and then explain to me what I was facing, what my options were, and what different scenarios we might encounter. He was so engaging, knowledgeable, and clearly competent that I quickly agreed to the dreaded root canal treatment. Though I kept waiting for the worst to manifest, I'm pleased to report that it never did. The procedure was complete in about an hour's time and, to my pleasant surprise, virtually pain-free. Every time I felt a twinge or bit of pressure that I feared might signal a sharper pain to come, I was wrong, the sensation quickly subsiding. The music was calming, and it was clear throughout that Dr. Nguyen was moving quickly, yet thoroughly, like an artist who has done this countless times. Which, of course, he has! When it was finished, he showed me the post-op X-ray so that I could see the flawless results. Mine was a molar, with multiple roots (including an extra one). All were expertly filled, clear down to the microscopic tips. He took the extra time to provide thorough post-op instructions, hand-write additional instructions, and answer questions. Hours later, with the anesthesia fully worn off, I'm pleased to say that all discomfort I was feeling in the area prior to treatment is completely gone! Obviously, it's best if you never have the need for a root canal at all. But if you do, I heartily recommend Dr. Nguyen, without reservation. Swift service, attentive chairside manner, incredible expertise, excellent documentation, and an affordable fee made this frightening experience a relative breeze. Had I been referred elsewhere, who knows? But in Dr. Nguyen's capable hands, at least, my root canal turned out to be nothing to fear.

The female dental assistant was not welcoming or friendly. When I mentioned that I wanted to skip the CBCT scan due to financial reasons, as the cost can be hundreds of dollars depending on insurance, she continued to push the scan 4-5 times despite my clearly stating that I did not want it. I found this extremely uncomfortable and felt that my decision was not being respected. When it came time for the X-rays, the lead apron was tossed onto me rather than being placed on me with care. I have pectus excavatum, which made this particularly uncomfortable and, in my opinion, was not handled professionally. My experience with Dr. Omid Dianat was also concerning. I was placed in a Trendelenburg position, with my head lower than my feet. I have cystic fibrosis and related sinus issues, which make me particularly prone to dizziness and migraine spikes. I had disclosed my medical history and symptoms in the forms I completed prior to the appointment. Being placed in that position exacerbated my symptoms and left me feeling extremely ill afterward. I understand that certain procedures and positioning may be necessary, but I believe my medical history should have been reviewed and taken into consideration before positioning me this way. At the very least, I would have appreciated being informed beforehand so we could discuss whether there was a more appropriate position for me. Additionally, when the electric pulp tester (EPT) was used on an already extremely sensitive tooth, I would have appreciated even a brief warning that the test could cause significant pain. A simple 10-second explanation would have made the experience much less distressing. Overall, I left feeling genuinely disappointed because I had high expectations after reading so many positive reviews. I was hoping to feel heard, respected, and cared for throughout my appointment, particularly after taking the time to provide detailed information about my medical history and concerns beforehand. Instead, I left feeling that my decisions, comfort, and individual needs were not given the level of consideration I expected. I'm sharing this feedback because I believe these concerns could have been addressed with better communication, more attentiveness, and a little more compassion. I hope the office takes this experience seriously and considers how these interactions can be improved so future patients feel more comfortable, respected, and cared for.

For six months I dealt with sensitivity, mainly triggered by hot and cold. I could eat and chew just fine as long as I started chewing on my left side first. Last May, I spoke with my dentist, had X-rays taken, and he told me I'd eventually need a root canal. He didn't give me any other solutions, so I just waited to see if things would get worse. Six months later, I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Gharib's office because the sensitivity was getting to me (even though it was on and off), and I started feeling pain up my cheek. I was worried about potentially having an infection or, even worse, an abscess. Christine at the front desk was so kind and accommodating. It was easy to schedule an appointment. She told me that Dr. Gharib is very conservative and only recommends procedures when absolutely necessary. I figured that was just something she said to everyone. At my appointment, I had X-rays done and reviewed them with Dr. Gharib. He was very kind, soft-spoken, and answered my many (many) questions while listening intently to my concerns. I did not feel rushed at all--I felt like I was actually being heard. After his examination, he didn't see any infection on the X-ray, but it did show a slight fracture in the pulp cap filling, which could be the cause of the heightened sensitivity. He didn't pressure me to do a cone beam scan or even suggest it; I personally requested it because I wanted to be absolutely sure there wasn't an infection at the root, since that would make a root canal necessary. The cone beam scan confirmed I had no infection whatsoever--thank goodness. He sat with me for a long while discussing what I could do to help the sensitivity and the slight fracture. He said it might be as simple as replacing the filling with an inlay or onlay, but since my pulp cap is very close to the nerve, that carries the risk of needing a root canal if it fails. He suggested trying Sensodyne for a few weeks and then having my dentist check whether an inlay or onlay, to replace the filling, is an option. There's a chance that might fix the problem. After my appointment, I felt so much more at ease. I was relieved that I didn't have an infection and grateful that I actually had options before committing to a root canal. Dr. Gharib even wrote me a long email afterward, reiterating everything we talked about. That, right there, is a dentist who truly cares. If and when I ever need a root canal, I'll be going to Dr. Gharib. He is professional, honest, thorough, and welcomes ALL questions. All the positive reviews you've read are true. ORIGINAL REIVEW: I got my root canal here before my general dentist could place the crown. After the root canal I went back to the general dentist and upon taking X-rays told me the root canal was done improperly and was incomplete. I had to back to Dr. Lin for a second root canal on the same tooth. Upon going back the GP he said it's a little better but he's still not completely satisfied but would "probably be ok". Facing the reality of having to do a third root canal on the same tooth for "probably" not necessary, I did the crown after the 2nd root canal and hoped for the best. Flash forward about six years later and the same tooth got an abscess bleeding out to the gum. Ended up losing the tooth and had to get an implant suffering through more dental procedures and will end up costing almost $9,000 out of my own pocket for all the work to be done diagnosing and treating the problem with three different specialties and doctors. If the tooth couldn't be saved by Dr. Lin he had a duty to tell me that and then I could have gone to a different doctor or had the tooth pulled. Obviously I couldn't go back to Dr. Lin and this practice because he had already proven to me he is incompetent and can't be trusted. I would advise you to avoid this practice based on incompetence, failure at duty of care and the dangerously poor skill of the doctor. I'm filing the appropriate complaints with the licensing and insurance company. If it were up to me, this doctor would have his license revoked.
