I've always heard that a root canal can be one of the most unpleasant experiences a person can endure. Right up there with passing a kidney stone or giving birth. And having worked in the dental industry for 13 years, I've seen and heard many horror stories, including the notion that "a root canal is a future implant case." So I had no shortage of trepidation when my dentist suggested today that I likely had need of endodontic treatment. Fortunately, she referred me to Dr. Nguyen, whose impeccable credentials helped to ease some of my initial fear. My experience only improved from there. First, his office was able to adjust their appointment calendar to fit me in within the hour. The office manager was extremely gracious and polite, and the check-in process was simple and straightforward. Dr. Nguyen proceeded to introduce himself, take a few quick X-rays, run a few tests, and then explain to me what I was facing, what my options were, and what different scenarios we might encounter. He was so engaging, knowledgeable, and clearly competent that I quickly agreed to the dreaded root canal treatment. Though I kept waiting for the worst to manifest, I'm pleased to report that it never did. The procedure was complete in about an hour's time and, to my pleasant surprise, virtually pain-free. Every time I felt a twinge or bit of pressure that I feared might signal a sharper pain to come, I was wrong, the sensation quickly subsiding. The music was calming, and it was clear throughout that Dr. Nguyen was moving quickly, yet thoroughly, like an artist who has done this countless times. Which, of course, he has! I deliberately waited one day before posting my impressions of Dr Nguyen's practice. So this is probably the most all around exceptional provider I have had the good fortune to have found. Thankfully we don't meet frequently, almost exclusively in a stressful situation. My first contact on this visit was from the office Manager Ms Heidi. She called me on a Thurs. expressing concern that I may be experiencing pain over the weekend and she might try to squeeze me into the schedule. This extra effort to reach out with compassion and concern was even before I had any contact with the office. On arriving I had forgotten my eyeglasses (very preoccupied heading to DDS office) when having difficulty filling out some forms, Ms Heidi offered me my choice of several different glasses which she readily had available. Dr Nguyen was happy to see me and put me at ease immediately. He took the time to intently listen to my symptoms, and took time to form a detailed plan, which he then shared with me. He had many tools, including advanced imaging, all of which gave me utmost confidence that I was safe and in highly skilled hands. This was not a simple case, and took quite awhile to complete, but never did I experience any pain or discomfort. Of course, I was nervous, especially after having dealt with bad dental results in the past. Once I arrived to his office, my nerves were put to ease with his caring and superb bedside manner. You don't really need to visit endodontist unless you need a root canal done, so in our lifetime we probably only need to visit once or twice unless you got jacked up teeth.
