I have extreme sensitivity in a tooth with a 10-year-old pulp cap. Last May, I bit into an RX date bar (I've had these many times) and felt sharp pain in tooth #4. For six months I dealt with sensitivity, mainly triggered by hot and cold. I could eat and chew just fine as long as I started chewing on my left side first. Last May, I spoke with my dentist, had X-rays taken, and he told me I'd eventually need a root canal. He didn't give me any other solutions, so I just waited to see if things would get worse. Six months later, I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Gharib's office because the sensitivity was getting to me (even though it was on and off), and I started feeling pain up my cheek. I was worried about potentially having an infection or, even worse, an abscess. Christine at the front desk was so kind and accommodating. It was easy to schedule an appointment. She told me that Dr. Gharib is very conservative and only recommends procedures when absolutely necessary. I figured that was just something she said to everyone. At my appointment, I had X-rays done and reviewed them with Dr. Gharib. He was very kind, soft-spoken, and answered my many (many) questions while listening intently to my concerns. I did not feel rushed at all--I felt like I was actually being heard. After his examination, he didn't see any infection on the X-ray, but it did show a slight fracture in the pulp cap filling, which could be the cause of the heightened sensitivity. He didn't pressure me to do a cone beam scan or even suggest it; I personally requested it because I wanted to be absolutely sure there wasn't an infection at the root, since that would make a root canal necessary. The cone beam scan confirmed I had no infection whatsoever--thank goodness. He sat with me for a long while discussing what I could do to help the sensitivity and the slight fracture. He said it might be as simple as replacing the filling with an inlay or onlay, but since my pulp cap is very close to the nerve, that carries the risk of needing a root canal if it fails. He suggested trying Sensodyne for a few weeks and then having my dentist check whether an inlay or onlay, to replace the filling, is an option. There's a chance that might fix the problem. After my appointment, I felt so much more at ease. I was relieved that I didn't have an infection and grateful that I actually had options before committing to a root canal. Dr. Gharib even wrote me a long email afterward, reiterating everything we talked about. That, right there, is a dentist who truly cares. If and when I ever need a root canal, I'll be going to Dr. Gharib. He is professional, honest, thorough, and welcomes ALL questions. All the positive reviews you've read are true. Stay away this office if you ever going to be referred to. The doctor is not confident that the work that will be done will endure long. As a result, I chose not to proceed with the treatment. Nonetheless, they managed to charge me $275, claiming that it was an incentive/credit for me to return. They have not offered any service, treatment, or even taken an x-ray photo of my tooth. This is a scam. I called the office today, talked to one of their rep named Christina claimed that she's smart. Thus she tried to argue and yell over the phone left and right. Unbelievable they put these people as the face of the office. Her altitude is even worse, and her tone sounds like a Karen from the street. Dr. Gharib is incredible. I am a rare case. 1 in a thousand who cannot get numb in the normal way. My nerves run different than regular people. You numb me in one area but I'll feel it in another. He took the time to find the correct place that would actually numb me before my procedure. It was in a place he doesn't even normally numb, but he was so patient in working with me and talking things out that he was able to accomplish the impossible. And I stayed numb throughout the entire procedure. Other dentists said I would need to be knocked out, but Dr. Gharib found a way around it and my procedure was painless. My husband had emergency tooth pain, this happened on Sunday afternoon. Our primary dentist and our referral network was closed. Found Dr. Cancellier on the web. Left a message and he called us back in 10 minutes to appolgize for not being able to help as he was on vacation with his family. Still offered us advise to manage the pain and for follow up on Monday if we couldn't get other help. I had a toothache over the weekend and called Dr Gharib Tuesday morning. He saw me Tuesday at 12:30, probably his lunch hour. He tested me and said I needed a root canal. Three hours later, squeezed me in completed the root canal. During the procedure he was very caring and mindful of what you are going through. He wanted to make sure I went through as little pain as possible. Except for a few pinches with the Novocain there was no pain at all. I would recommend Dr Gharib to my mother. read more

During my wife's procedure, Dr. Gharib was extremely communicative, letting her know exactly what he was doing. I had my first root canal at Endodontics of Orange County with Dr. Cancellier about 4 years ago and was very happy with my treatment there. This week I had a dental emergency and my primary dentist, Dr. Hahn, referred me there again. He informed me that Dr. Cancellier had retired and Dr. Gharib had taken over the practice. He said that every patient he had referred was happy with the new doctor. I was a bit nervous, because I was in pain and I had never been treated by Dr. Gharib. A root canal is never a pleasant experience but Dr. Gharib, Sharon and Christine made it as pleasant as possible. Dr. Gharib immediately puts you at ease. He has a very calming bedside manner, explains each step to you and is very conscious of your comfort throughout the process and even once you leave the office. It is also evident that he is a very skilled doctor and a perfectionist in his work. I also am very appreciative that Christine at the front desk was considerate when I had an issue upon checking out with my HSA card. First of all, due to the complication of my case (gum diease, a failed implant, and infection), I went to see multiple Dentists, Periodontists, Endodontists to get different opinions. In the past 4 months, I was so disappointed because nobody was able to pinpoint what the real problem was until I saw Dr. Gharib. Originally, I was going to have Dr. Cancelliers to perform a Root Canal on me because he has one of the best reviews in OC, but he had JUST retired when I was ready to do it after months of research. I was devastated. Thank god Dr. Gharib took over the practice, and he gave me the confidence that I had been looking for immediately. After taking an CT scan, he knew exactly what the problem was. Everything he said made sense (I did a lot of research online) and, he thoroughly explained my options and the Root Canal precedure. I was so comfortable with him, and I agreed to do a Root Canal right away. Dr. Gharib was so skilled even the numbing was wonderful. He was very gentle and caring throughout the entire procedure, and he informed me every single step so I knew what to expect and how well the procedure was going. I am not joking. I had ZERO pain during and after the procedure. I felt immediately relieved from the infection, and he called me (not once but twice) to check up on me. After seeing/speaking with so many dentists in the past several months, Dr. Gharib shows me what an excellent doctor should be. I was referred here by my regular dentist for a root canal. As a mother of 2 (one being a baby) it's hard for me to schedule time away for stuff, coordinating baby sitters, activities etc. so anyway I finally schedule an appt here, they block out an hour and half for me which is enough time to do the procedure. I get there on appt day, on time and they are nice and friendly. The women staff there are awesome. I sit and wait for a little and then They take me back and the lady takes one X-ray for me. Then I wait more, and about 30 min into the appt the dentist comes in. I thought it was weird since I only had an hour and a half blocked out and I wanted to be on time and get it all done in one day. He comes in and says "no change?" Ummm excuse me? How about an introduction? Then he goes into checking my teeth and asking me if I want a root canal, as if it's an option. He's saying I don't have to have one if I can live with the sensitivity "forever". And so I ask "don't I have to get one or it gets worse?" and he says "well, yeah". Like wtf! That should have been my 2nd red flag. So then he plays nice and explains what a root canal is. After I confirm I want one, weird in itself, he says the lady in the front is going to come in and go over the cost. Uh ok? So she comes in and she tells me how much it will be, which is reasonable, she then says "ok so let's see when we can schedule you in". Wtf??? They were trying to reschedule me to come back. The whole appt made no sense. She later copped to it and said that they take emergencies and they don't have enough time for my root canal bc someone walked in ahead of me with an emergency but he has enough time now to start the root canal but not finish. Or I can come in in a few hours and get it all done. That doesn't make sense. How can you start now and not finish yet have time for me later? If that's the case then you should bump the next appt and tell them they got bumped and do my root canal now. The whole thing was fishy and she was for sure covering for the dentist who was a complete dick. I feel bad for the nice girls who work there. Don't come here. If they can be shady about how they schedule who knows what else they are shady about. Give another dentist with integrity and honesty your money. Going to try dentistry bliss and will follow up with a review there. Also there are 20 non recommended reviews from people with no friends and no reviews.
