I have to say that Julie went out of her way for me. I was in considerable pain with a tricky root canal and I needed a prescription for pain meds. I work in Anaheim and drove to Irvine to pick up the prescription. I then drove back to Anaheim to fill it at my Kaiser pharmacy. The Dr. hadn't dated it and they wouldn't fill it. I was in a predicament because this was Friday before Memorial Day weekend. I was going to have to be in pain all weekend:( Julie got the Dr. to write another prescription and drove all the way from Irvine to Anaheim in Friday rush hour traffic to personally deliver it to me! I wish there was a way to give more stars! Went in to my primary dentist complaining of a toothache. They did an xray and said I'd need to either pull the tooth or get a root canal. I opted for a root canal, even though I figured it would be a while longer to get one scheduled for me and I'd have to suffer through a holiday weekend [at the very least] They gave Ivy Endodontic Group a call and they said if I rushed over there [at 3:30 pm!] they would be able to see me and perform my root canal. I got there and was greeted warmly by the staff, filled out my paperwork and was seen by Dr. Daniel Fife very quickly!!! A VERY short [painless!!!!!] time later, I was out the door! Referred here by my general dentist office for root canal done. I did a consultation first and came back for the root canal. Front desk was really quick and great service. The place located in a tall business building that's easy to locate. This place does contract with different dental discount plan so that was great. I was able to saved a few hundreds through a discount plan. The office: VERY clean and well kept. There are magazines to entertained you while you wait but the waits are not long at all since they are by appointments only. When you're lead back to the room, everything is clean and up to date with all the high tech machines and instruments needed. The root canal procedure: I had dr. Hutchinson performed the procedure. He was very thorough and YOUNG for an endodontic lol. I was skeptical at first but he kept it very thorough and explains everything as he goes to make you comfortable in that chair. The procedure was an hour and I was surprised how painless it was. He numbed me first and went for it. I usually dread to go to the dentist because having someone looking in your mouth, nostril, and face is not a comfortable thing. But here they give you glasses to prevent any debris, a rubber mouth cover that only exposed the needed tooth which I love because let's be real, it's not easy having someone working on your mouth and have to look down your nostrils .. I don't know, it's a women thing for me ... I was in and out in an hour and the pain was gone thanks to anesthesia and relieving the tooth pressure. His assistant was really helpful, nice, and sweet. I was having pain in one of my teeth and they worked me in right away. Everyone who works at the office is very nice. Dr Jason Cho was great. He explained my options, allowed me to ask a lot of questions (which he then answered to my satisfaction), was very gentle throughout the exam and also during the procedure I selected. I never felt rushed, but rather felt that he would spend as much time as I needed during my visits.The office is sparkling clean (I know this should be a given, but have visited other offices that were not), they seem to have all the latest equipment, and he seems to be up to date on all the latest procedures/treatments. I am a real Dental Chicken and so happy I was referred to Dr. Kim's office by my primary dentist. I had a cavity that turned into a need for a root-canal and I had heard so many terrible stories about the pain of that procedure I was scared to address it. When the pain was too much to bear, I finally went to Dr. Kim at the Ivy Endodontic Group Irvine office and - he was brilliant! Very kind and explained what he was going to do and the gentle care he and his assistant extended during the procedure, resulted in very light barely there needle pain for the numbness and a very thorough job of addressing the decay in my tooth's' root. They had excellent tools/ techniques that made the ridding of excess salvia a painless and comfortable experience. They even had a safety measure of 'raising my left hand slightly' if the process became too hard to swallow- literally. The technician assisting was just as kind and compassionate. Dr. Plaitano has restored my faith in American Dentistry. After seeing 3 dentists about an intermittent pain in two teeth that had recently been crowned by a primary dentist, none of whom were able to diagnose the problem, he knew what it was immediately.His first course of action was to prescribe medication - unfortunately this didn`t work, as he suspected. He then did a root canal. I can only say that, in 50 years of going to dentists, I would rate him as #1 !!!! Dr Plaitano is a wonderfully skilled, sensitive and compassionate man. If you need work I suggest you go to him. You will be really glad you did! I only wish he did all phases of dentistry! read more

I had both the worst and the best experience at this place today! If you don't want to read the full review, to make it short...5 stars for Dr. and assistant. 1 star for reception staff. The worst part was the reception and front desk staff. I had a root canal scheduled for today and unfortunately the tooth that was supposed to have the root canal started hurting SO bad 3 nights ago (a Saturday night). I have never experienced such bad pain. I couldn't sleep, couldn't concentrate to go to work, couldn't get out of bed, and could hardly eat. I called the office and left a voicemail on Sunday evening asking if it would be possible to get in a day earlier for my root canal because I was in such agony. Monday morning I never received a call back so I decided to call them again. The girl at the front desk didn't seem very concerned that I was in so much pain and was like...yeah I didn't call you back because we didn't have any openings. I told her that I thought their office did emergency root canals. She said....yes we do but we don't have any time for any more today. She then recommended I call my dentist to tell me what pain medication I should be taking. I was taking the strongest medication I am allowed to take and it did nothing! So I waited another day in misery and my husband called the office today at 830 (when it says they open on their voicemail) to see if they could get me in earlier and NO ONE answered until about 10am. The line would go to voicemail with various numbers of rings so it was like someone was choosing not to answer it. Finally they said to come on in and they would see what they could do. The best part was that Dr. Hutchens and his assistant (didn't catch her name) were amazing at helping me feel comfortable and at ease during the whole root canal process. Special thanks to Dr. Hutchens for calling me back for a couple minutes to numb my mouth so I would no longer have to be in sub horrible pain while I waited for him to have an available appointment. Thank god someone who was scheduled decided not to go through with their treatment so I got in at their time. Dr. Hutchens was very polite and positive and I never felt like I was being scolded or talked down to like I have been at other places. I would definitely go to see him again, I just hope I wouldn't have to deal with the reception staff not answering again. read more

Yes! I agree with the other reviews that the dr send super young but who cares! The service is awesome, they are organized and they make the best of icky situations (dang root canals!). The dr explains what is going to happen, what your options are and there is no pressure to make a decision. It's still a little scary being in the chair with all the noise but he puts enough meds in so it is not painful during the process. read more

Worst root canal ever! I've always had soft teeth and have had many root canals. This was by far, the worst! The Dr who saw me wasn't even on the list of the Ivy group dr on prescription paper, and the assistant was clearly new, since right after she put the rubber mask on my face, she bragged to the other assistant "I did good huh?" as if this was her first time. I started getting sever headache in the middle of it, and just got worse and worse. Then this newbie assistant was trying to take my xray, and telling me, who's numb from novacane, to "bite down". What kind of idiot will tell the numb person to bite down?! When i told her i can't tell that I'm biting down, she told me to "calm down." In the end, this Dr can't even prescribe me real medication for the pain, and try to tell me to take some over the counter stuff. I will never come back to this place again, and won't trust any dentist who'll recommend this place. read more
